Matsumoto Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
There was some type of contamination issue last time.
Everything tasted bitter and felt like it burned my mouth. Went to a different place to eat after, and did not have this problem. Maybe they washed the dishes wrong with counter cleaner, or put something in the miso soup. I should have asked for a refund but was too shy. Even on a day when they don't have that serious problem (which made everything inedible), the quality is not spectacular. UPDATE: I should have complained on the spot, instead of paying, and called a health inspection, because days later, my tummy still hurts from whatever the food was contaminated with. The owner's rude and snarky response is as unprofessional as their preparation of food and choice of ingredients. As if I would ever want to go to your health-hazard, boring and smelly establishment ever again... I hope that anyone considering this restaurant will read the owner's response to my polite and humble complaint following an experience that made me sick, before they decide if to go there. Is that how a restaurant owner who cares about quality and customers would respond? Your food literally made me ill. I've had sushi HUNDREDS of times, everywhere from Masa to Matsuhisa to Urasawa to 715 and all the way down to Sugar Fish. Never once got sick, except in this restaurant. I didn't even mention that the tomato salad had 3 pieces of low quality tomato in a bowl full of 3 inches deep thousand-island dressing, and the tempura was about as thick as something you'd get at a Panda Express. Terrible food, bad hygiene and horrible proprietor.

A culinary adventure for the sushi enthusiast! Came for the 25 piece Omakase nigiri sushi - they come out 3 at a time, no sashimi or other appetizers. You get to try 25 different species and many are rarely served in the US. Was thrilled to try pieces like Aori Ika (Bigfin reef squid), Tairagai (Pen shell scallop), Amadai (Tilefish), Ebodai (Pacific Rudderfish), and Kegani (Hairy crab). I also got hits like Otoro, Kinmedai, and Nodoguro. Was neat to compare the three different Uni types (Santa Barbara, Murasaki, and Bafun). Was $250 before tax/tip. No frills, just high quality sushi. Definitely memorable!

Back here again, and of course, their omakase did not disappoint! Since coming back from Japan, I've been craving sushi, we did their omakase. Everything was fresh and delicious. Their otoro was melt in your mouth good, ended up ordering extra pieces after omakase was over. They also had 2 types of uni from Japan, which I loved. You usually don't get 2 uni, but white uni became seasonal, so it was added. Staff is very friendly and attentive. They made excellent recommendations for dessert. We had their purple yam with coconut tapioca and their matcha pudding. It reminded me of a crème brûlée style, except caramel was on the bottom. We love coming here because sushi is always good, and staff is always great!!!
order 4 items.
. 2 salmon sushi 1 yellowtail and a miso soup. soup was Luke warm. kinda cold. salmon sushi had a. a salty black sauce on top. and the yellowtail was fishy The yellowtail also had the house sou sauce on top Super salty. the ginger was orange and tangy. And the service terrible. I ordered water and was given a half a cup and she never came back Stranger than that i am the only customer so why she never came back to see what i wanted to eat is weird. So I ask for the check . Never returning Fish was grade C at best Bill 34 bucks. I sniff my food and it smelled terrible. The half couple of water smelt and taste like fish. There was only 2 customers in the place sitting at the sushi bar. Did you know bad sushi can send a human to the hospital ? u will be closed soon. We demand good food in our neighborhood.

Matsumoto offers a top-notch omakase experience in an unpretentious setting . With seafood selected and flown in from Japan, each piece of sushi is a real delight. It was a privilege to dine here.
Always a delight.
Quality of food and service is perfect. Mood is a date spot, low lighting and intimate. However I come here for a quick bite and it satisfies each and every time!

We decided to go there on a whim on a Tuesday night and were able to find a 6pm spot (on Tock) at the bar for Omakase. We arrived at 6, found a parking spot on Beverly Blvd without any problems and headed towards the restaurant to drop $800 for 25 piece Omakase sushi experience for 2. If you love sushi, you should absolutely make it your goal to dine here. I have been lucky to have sushi of varying price range in LA and Tokyo and this is my favourite restaurant. It definitely tops an average sushi in Tokyo which is MUCH MUCH better than any average sushi in LA. And I'm convicted that LA has the best sushi in this country. So I hope that gives you an idea of where this restaurant is on a scale of best sushi in the whole world and why it is so expensive. All employees were from Japan and that pretty much told me everything I needed to know. Japanese have been crafting the art of perfection in all areas of life for hundreds of years and it really shows. We have tasted so many different sushi that my head started to spin as I was split between trying to remember what chef was saying, figuring out which piece I liked the most and simply just taking it all in. Everything tasted perfect. The freshest of the freshest and we had some exotic sushi imported from Japan. This flawless experience is now ingrained in my memory forever.
Pricey.
Sushi was good, but not amazing. Nothing wowed me. Did not like the tuna. Ok for grabbing some sushi, but overall not really for a night out. Spent $100 and left hungry. Atmosphere was pretty basic. Lovely staff though.

My husband and I went to LA for the first time, mainly as a foodie trip, and wanted to be sure we had Omakase at least once, given our obsession for it. And boy...Matsumoto definitely did NOT disappoint! My husband opted for the 25 piece nigiri omakase and I opted for the 15 piece nigiri omakase. There was plenty of time to talk to the chef in between courses, and he was more than happy to chat with folks as well. We had some nigiri we've never had before and the chef was more than happy to talk about where each piece of fish came from. Even though my husband and I had different omakase counts, the chef still served both of us at the same time. Some dishes, my husband had more pieces on his plate than mine, to be sure that we were on pace with each other during the whole meal. The restaurant is tucked away in a little strip mall and am so glad we had such a great dinner here. I can't wait to go back the next time we find ourselves in LA!

Hi @ExhaustiveMilk80, to be able to hold a bid you must have either the key holder medal or concierge medal. Holding bids allows you to work on trying to secure the reservation without someone else getting it before you and filling it
