A very enjoyable dinner
They had just introduced their summer menu, and we really enjoyed their choices. They don't have a lot of choices, but they are willing to make alterations if necessary
Not a Michelin experience
The food is okay, but definitely not a Michelin experience. The dishes are uninteresting and bland, and very expensive for what they are. The cocktails are not much better, especially the signature ones. Service is slow, and the staff seem uninterested in being there at all. You can have much better food for half the price in several restaurants in Reykjavík. Visited with my fiancé.
Damn, this is unreal!
We had a delicious meal at Matur og Drykkur. Well, actually, it was unreal. The kind of meal where you say, ‘Damn,’ after every bite. I highly recommend having dinner here with the wine pairing. You will not be disappointed!
Run don’t walk to this magnificent restaurant
I dine out a lot and travel a lot and have never written a restaurant review before, but for Matur Og Drykkur, I felt compelled to do so. Reykjavík has an abundance of excellent restaurants and we tried quite a few. Matur Og Drykkur is a stand out. From the minute we walked in and were greeted by the hostess, everything was absolutely perfect - the food, the service (including providing us with wonderful descriptions of each course), the timing between courses, the aesthetic of the space, etc. We wanted a meat-free tasting menu and they created one for us that was out of this world. Beforehand, they discussed many options with us and then customer tailored the menu accordingly. Everything was so well done, and quite creative too. The food tasted as unbelievable as it looked. If I am fortunate enough to return to Iceland, Matur Og Drykkur will be at the top of my dining list. Run don’t walk to this superb restaurant!
Fantastic tasting men
really want to recommend this restaurant for very good food. The wine package together with the tasting menu was fantastic. Our waitress Nathalia brightened our dinner with incredible service, always with a smile, and good at telling us about the food and wine.

Delicious tasting menu dinner with wonderful service and a lovely cosy atmosphere. We had a really special evening and would highly recommend to anyone. Particular thanks for catering for a gluten free diet, and for really friendly and informative service. Our highlights were the platter of starters, and the lamb dish. The alcohol free options were limited as some had run out, but I enjoyed what was available. A belated big thank you to the Matur og Drykkur team, we had such a memorable dinner on our first visit to Reykjavik.
Perfect end to our Reykjavik trip
Had a meal last night of our trip with my wife and 18 year old daughter. Daughter is vegetarian and we had much luck throughout the week for casual meals but wanted also to do something more upscale. Read about the ability here to do their menu with vegetarian substitutions. I emailed to make sure this was correct as only saw that in a review and not on their website, and also that they could do one meal out of three that way (many times in the US for some reason they want the entire table to be the same). Email was returned swiftly to confirm and I had already reserved so was excited to go. Service was top notch. Food was really well done, cooked with love and care you can taste. Nothing felt too concept only without sacrificing taste. We were really impressed with how few changes they had to make also for the vegetarian meal. Daughter was able to share a lot of the dishes and only had 3 or so actual substitutions and those were the meat portion only as the sauces and other ingredients were already vegetarian, so we all were able to have a very similar experience. Highly recommend based on our experience.
Gorgeous
Delicious food, beautiful setting, lovely ambience, incredibly friendly service, excellent value for such an expensive city. Couldn’t recommend more for a Reykjavik treat.
Best meal in ages
We went for my Wife’s birthday having seen the restaurant on Rick Steins long weekends and having done some research, the team at Matur og drykkur exceeded our expectations. Amazing food, friendly attentive and professional service in a relaxed environment. We have been to a lot of Michelin starred and high end restaurants but this was the best meal we have had in a long time. The restaurant only serves a 6 course tasting menu, although there are no actual menus just a choice between meat or fish for your main. We opted for the lamb with a drinks pairing. We normally find with a drinks pairing it’s small glasses of expensive wine, here we had wine, IPA, mead and tawny port. Each exquisitely matched to the courses and lots of glasses. Each course and the drinks pairing were described in such detail and with such passion by Masza who clearly is very knowledgeable and passionate about the food and drinks they serve. Thank you for a very memorable night.
Exquisite food less-ordinary
You can see how the chef and the staff are passionate about food. They don’t simply serve you the dish but explain you with a smile what its composition is and the story behind it. They are super friendly and nice. The restaurant itself isn’t packed. You won’t have to yell at each other like in other places where it is extremely loud. The entire ambience felt more like eating at a (fancy) friend’s home who just invited a little bit more then the usual amount of people. The restaurant runs a fixed menu and some of the menu points might be things you wouldn’t eat or like... normally. This sounds first a bit off-putting, but it totally works for what they are aiming for. It is a great place for people like me who combine two opposing characteristics. Loving to try out new things but at the same time being super picky eaters. They achieve this by making small portions and designing their menu in an easily accessible way. Don’t worry about the small portions. You’ll get a full meal out of it. I was pretty stuffed by the end. For example, the starters are not more then 2 to 3 bites, but you get 5 of them. So, the idea is less in quantity, but in larger variety of superior quality. It also means for problematic people like me, that you already finished it by the point you decide that you're not a fan of it. Also don’t panic if there is something on the menu that sounds weird. I’ve seen for example pictures of the traditional Icelandic sheep’s head on google and immediately noped out. However, at this place they not only cooked it very well (I actually want to eat it again. Was delicious.) but also present it in a pleasant and creative way. If I didn’t knew I would have never guessed that meat was from a sheep’s head. I also hate anything that tastes of fish. Surprise, I was able to finish everything without even forcing myself. Yes, there was a fishy taste to it, but not in a bad way. Everything they cook is unique in its taste and palpable but without being overwhelming. I’m not sure how to explain it. It was simply an fantastic experience and journey to go trough the menu and I wasn’t scared that something would be a problem for me. I really really enjoyed it. Amazing. The main course is more "regular". Well, regular in the sense of what everyone is already familiar with. However, turned up to 100 regarding quality and taste. I’ve noticed that they like to put things together that taste very differently but complement each other very well. That lamb sirloin was exquisite. They combined it with rutabaga and horseradish, which I don't like. But it was prepared in a way that it worked so well together. I want to eat that again. I had the luck to be in Reykjavik exactly at the time when they switched the menu. So, I went twice there to try out both menus and in both cases I wasn’t disappointed. It is one of the pricier restaurants, but you really get your value. If I was a local, I would become a regular and go there for every new menu creation. It was not only the good food, but the presentation, the friendliness… the whole package was just right for me. The honourable mention goes to one specific non-alcoholic drink. It is a lemony lavender syrup mixed with earl grey. It is topped off with some egg white and merengue. I know this sounds a bit strange. I’m fully aware that this could be just a subjective me-thing… but it is so so so delicious. I think I had about a dozen of those in the course of two dinners. If I had to choose in what to drown in, this is it. I have to start a desperate hunt here at my home to find something similar.
Excellent set menu with great atmosphere and passionate staff
Visited this restaurant in January. Easy to find at entrance to Saga Museum. Translation is literally "Food and Drink" We opted for set menu and wine pairings. all the courses were so intricately prepared and the team were keen to explain the concept and ingredients each time. The wine pairings were definitely unusual -sweet wine with lamb that was so good amongst others We really enjoyed the whole experience and thought it was excellent value for such a wonderful experience and great Matur og Drykkur !
Super tasting menu
This was such an amazing tasting menu. Delicious take on Icelandic delicacies like arctic char, lamb, cheeses and breads. If you don’t eat meat they will accommodate. Very friendly staff and highly deserving of their Michelin rating. Worth every penny.
A huge disappointment!
Great atmosphere and service, alas the food was simply not tasty. What a disappointment! We've been traveling multiple countries and dining in many of them. At more than 16k kr per person, this was by far the worst value-for-money we've ever had.
Almost perfect
Loved almost everything we had here. The restaurant is super cute inside, and does 2 seatings a night - we had reservations for the later one. The staff and service were good, and the restaurant was able to make a couple of substitutions to the set menu to accommodate some allergies/restrictions. Almost everything was fabulous. My biggest objection is the herb-y gremolata that came with a couple of dishes - it did not appeal at all and was a bit overwhelming to the other flavors. Overall, though, a lovely dining experience.
Excellent Michelin Meal in Iceland
Amazing food. Pre-set menu for an outstanding compilation of 6 (!!!) courses for ~$120. This was my first Michelin experience and it did not disappoint. Every item was outstanding - and there was a solid cocktail menu as well. (Beverage pairing is offered for an additional ~$80, but I didn’t partake.) Beautiful restaurant and an exceptional dining experience.
Famous and excellent restaurant
Famous and beautiful restaurant. Excellent food, place and delicious service. Set tasting menu. Quite high price but in Reykjavík in a good restaurant is normal.
Average food
Traditional food. Great atmosphere and decor. Expectations were high at the beginning but experience wasn't that special - not Michelin star quality. Proteins in main dishes (both fish and lamb) were over cooked and it was very disappointing to have soggy fish skin. Not any of the dishes gave us wow-effect in looks or taste. Average food. Service was good.
Traditional Icelandic food with a modern twist
A really nice restaurant serving seasonal Icelandic dishes with a great modern twist. They catered well for one of us who is gluten intolerant. Good selection of drinks including cocktails and a food pairing. Good service and a funky setting. Recommended.
Great experience
Both the food and the drinks were excellent, as is expected at a restaurant at this caliber. The highlights of the visit was the halibut soup and the beverage pairing. The halibut soup is one of my very mest food experience ever, and the beverage pairing was somehow always perfect. All in all a superb experience.
Bland food coupled with cold service
Located near the port, this is a very traditional Icelandic restaurant. I think it used to have a Michelin star but I believe was lost. Service was slow right from the start but staff were polite. No alacarte just tasting available .Food was mostly bland and underseasoned bar the soup dish we had which was excellent. Mains too were uninspiring my cod whilst good was nothing to shout about while my wife’s lamb had to be sent back as it was stone cold, but was satisfactory. Drinks to be fair were very reasonably priced, while cocktails were good. Deserts were poor, we were served something that resembled a brick which was heavy and quite bitter. Overall if you want a gastronomic experience go to dill, the difference between the two restaurants was like night and day.
Disappointed by the waitress and the overall service
When we arrived, nobody welcome us at the entrance of the restaurant and took care about our jacket. We took the 5 dishes + wine pairing for 150 euro per person. Price is reasonable for a Michelin restaurant but at the end it is not worst. Our waitress with a piercing was not really friendly and was serving the dishes really fast without taking care of if we need a break or something. I asked for break to smoke and she was a bit upset. Every time she brings a dish to our table we can really feel on her face that it was definitely not a good day for her... It might happen but when you are Michelin rewarded, the service is as important as the quality of the dishes. Regarding the food and the wine pairing, it fits! We were surprised by the specialties and really enjoyed it.
Good food with cozy atmosphere
Came here for dinner winter tasting menu. Halibut soup and the bacalao were pretty good. The bacalao was very tender with a nice crispy outer layer. Food was not bad but I would have to say overall it wasn't too memorable. The fish dish was just slightly a little too dry for my liking (I'm picky about fish). For this price, it's not terrible though and would say it's still worth trying.
Underwhelming
We had high hopes for this place but it underperformed in every conceivable way service notwithstanding. Every dish was bland and lackluster, not to mention there was zero effort in accommodating dietary restrictions. Save yourself some time and go anywhere else, in fact I probably would have had a more fulfilling dinner at the Sbarro we passed on the way.
Outstanding food and service
Our six course prix fixe dinner was fantastic and a fitting end to our week in Iceland. We started with the cocktail list which is an inspired ode to uniquely Icelandic flavors, like crow berry, rhubarb, birch bitters and Brennivin. Three of our party had the standard menu and one had the vegan menu. The regular menu was outstanding with cured sheep fillet, smoked trout, cheese and homemade crackers, salted cod croquettes, halibut soup, and 2 desserts.. There was a choice of mains, lamb sirloin or cod . Everyone was happy with the regular menu and their choice of mains. The vegan menu was a little disappointing. It seemed to be designed to “look” like the regular menu, rather than to really work at showcasing the vegetables. I only say this to suggest that if vegan is your passion you can probably do better elsewhere. But if vegan is not your thing, than make sure you don’t miss this restaurant.

2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* EternalAnt36, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* EternalAnt36 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to EternalAnt36 for any questions Peter may have as EternalAnt36 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* EternalAnt36 now uses their connections at Matur og Drykkur Reykjavík to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If EternalAnt36 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, EternalAnt36 receives the $200 reward which is credited to EternalAnt36's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Matur og Drykkur Reykjavík!
