Lively night out in Tampa
My husband and I had a great dinner at Meat Market. The service and food were fantastic. I didn’t enjoy the loudness of the restaurant and being on top of others. I felt like I was yelling at my husband during the whole dinner. It was very difficult to relax and enjoy our bottle of wine. If we go back, it would have to be early and need to be away from the bar side. I had a headache when I left.

We enjoyed the service and food. Most of the food was really excellent, however the meatloaf was soggy but still tasty. Good atmosphere.

Nice atmosphere. Slow service although friendly. Ordered medium blackened salmon. It came well done and dry and could not taste the blackened spices. Other food was at best average. Will not come back for food.

At the Meat Market a Maserati disgorges a glamorous couple dressed from the pages of Vogue into a pulsating restaurant scene (not us). After reviewing almost 500 restaurants around the world, my expectations for a high-quality meal are low in this type of restaurant BUT the opposite is true. A tender halibut dish with shaved black truffle, wagyu filet, west and east coast oysters, and passion roll are a test to the kitchen’s skills, and they delivered. Excellent waitstaff service ensured dishes moved in and out seamlessly – never rushed nor delayed (shout out to Stacy – our waitperson). Food quality justifies the hefty prices. Meat Market is a very glitzy restaurant – the people watching is fantastic. However, Meat Market delivers some of the best quality food in Tampa. An aside: their dress code requires men to wear long pants and it is a GREAT idea. I’m tired of untucked shirts, shorts, and sandals in a restaurant where you expect to spend no less than $100 per person.

Waiter was nice, food very disappointing. $55 ribeye, 50% fat. Dried out duck. Will not be going back. Dress code is a farce, people wearing T shirts, sleeveless T's,

Our server was Kenzie. She was amazing. We are foreigners and the food was new for us. She kindly explained every meal on menu. The taste of Salmon and beef was amazingly good. Tasty. I do advice this place to everyone✅✅✅🙏🎄🎄 Come and enjoy time here. 🙏
Be the first to ReplyLots of attitude and disorganization
Prior to arriving, the restaurant called 2x and reminded us of the strict dress code- really not necessary and annoying! Upon arriving we were greeted by a young girl who was unfriendly and had a horrible demeanour. She told us to wait along the side and was full of attitude. No smile, no welcome, just miserable. Not even sure if she liked her job. When we finally got seated (nobody knew what was going on- the management team kept bumping into each other and couldn't figure out where to place people. We had to wait for a piece of paper to pop out of a machine in order to get seated. Happy hour was unhappy as there was virtually not much to choose from. We asked waitress about the oysters and she said that they were different from main menu and chosen by the chef- didn't want to take a chance just in case they were not great. We ended up selecting from main menu. Food was average. Our main issue was the whole attitude of the place which we hated and therefore din't have a great time. Management should review their policies and train their team to reflect a more inviting vibe!

Beautiful place for a beautiful crowd! The atmosphere is great and the food was outstanding! This was our first time here and we were lucky to have a great server named Gabriel. Ask him about his nine lives. We started with some of the freshest sushi I ever had and followed by the devil eggs topped with caviar. Our entrees were short ribs with poached eggs and truffles potatoes. I would love to comeback and try the dinner menu.

This was my first experience with this restaurant. They contacted the person who scheduled the reservations to inform her of the strict dress code and was informed if anyone in our party did not meet the dress code they would not be allowed into the building. We arrived on the night of the reservation, they would not sit us at the table until the entire party arrived, and I noticed people were wearing jeans, which was something they informed the person who booked the reservations was not allowed. We sat down at our table to find out we had 2 people who would be waiting our table. It was very annoying. Every time we started a conversation one of them would come over and interrupt us. I felt like they were in my face constantly, removing silverware, placing silverware, reviewing the menu despite we already knew what we wanted, bringing an electronic device over and bending down to ask us if we wanted anything else to drink or if we wanted desert, lifting up part of the table to make it bigger to place dishes on the table. The manager stood around with a stern face watching everything like a mobster. To me it was not a very comfortable and relaxing evening with friends. I have never been to a restaurant where there was so much table activity with the staff. The food was ok. I ordered the fried califlower for an appetizer, it tasted like they put the entire califlower head in a pot of boiling water and sprinkled a little bit of seasoning on top, it was not fried at all, it was boiled, would not recommend this appetizer.

Was dressed better than 90% of the people in there but had on flips flops. In summer in Florida. Was denied entrance to sit at the bar. This isn’t Berns. Get some perspective on things.

The buzz of the guests creates a wonderful, almost chaotic atmosphere – everyone is having a good time. The people watching is an added benefit, as the “beautiful people” stroll through the restaurant. But the reason to go to MM is the quality of the food and service. First, the food quality is excellent: oysters, salad, sushi, wagyu steak, dessert – all well prepared and flavorful. Second, the wait staff (especially Zack and Connor) were knowledgeable and attentive – not overbearing. We were coming back to MM after a long absence -- the past issues have been resolved and the new experience is one of the best in Tampa. We’ll be back and bring our out-of-town guests too.

I was on holiday in Orlando and heard about the Meat Market from a friend. We made reservations and drove up for brunch. It was totally worth the drive. Our meal was amazing and the dessert was SO good. The service was outstanding! Make sure to ask for Preston when you go, he will take great care of you. I can’t wait to visit again.
Be the first to ReplyNot a friendly place....
I went here recently for drinks since I'm new to the area and it was highly recommended to me. I could not have been more disappointed. The drinks were awful and not even full to the top of the glass; the bartenders were so unfriendly and rude; the people coming in to the place were definitely trying too hard to be something they are not. Just a cold, awful atmosphere and this is without even trying the food. Will probably not go back...

A colleague and myself spontaneously decided to have dinner at the Meat Market yesterday evening. The venue is modern and nice. The staff is friendly, easy on the eyes, and competent. We had booked a table inside, but when we got there, we asked for a table outside. The hostess did not make a fuss about it, but quickly found a solution to accommodate us. The waiter was polite, friendly, and competent. The food: As appetizers we shared the Escargots and a sushi Lobster roll. They were tasty, but quite frankly not as mind-blowing as one might have expected reading the menu and as advertised by the waiter. We then had the Meatmarket Steak and the Filet with some sides. The meat was perfect and the temperature exactly as requested. Delicious! The two aspects that we did not like were: 1) The price ratio. We ordered the Filet mignon with the Fois Gras Rossini on top which was almost an additional 30 USD. It was very tasty and would have bee fine if the piece of Fois Gras would have been bigger that less than a square inch! It was not even two bites and a surgical scalpel would have been more appropriate to cut it (because of the size) than a steak knife. The quality of the food, the location, and the service do justify higher prices. But the Fois Gras was not ok. 2) The drinks – we ordered wine by the glass for the appetizers and later on a second glass each with the main course. We had two small disappointments here. a. the white wine was way to warm and we had to ask for a colder one (it happens and was not a big deal) b. the wine came almost 10 minutes after the appetizers and 5 minutes after the main course. Given that we did not expect that we started eating when the courses arrived and were basically almost half through it, when we got the drinks (that was kind of a bummer) Apart from that a great experience with good food and a very friendly service.

To be fair 3 of 4 steaks were reported as “good” but the 4th was abysmal. My steak could not be chewed into submission, just turning into a gray defiant mass begging not to be swallowed. The manager did offer to bring another steak but we had already been told by our waiter to expect a long wait for a replacement. So, given that the other 5 members of our party were mostly finished with their meals and ready for dessert, I opted to pass on the offer. No other “compensation” was offered or received & I chose not to push it…which I now regret. Footnote: This restaurant is located in a very popular & trendy area and my guess is that consistently top notch meals are not necessary for their business to succeed…so treating diners like valued customers is not on the menu. Suffice it to say that we do not intend to be repeat customers.

Awful customer service. I made a reservation for my birthday dinner one month prior, and upon arriving on time, the two extremely rude and condescending hostesses made my group of eight wait in the corner for literally one hour to be seated. Every 10-15 minutes one of us went to check on the situation, and every time "they were getting our table ready." What was the point of reserving a spot four weeks ago? Waitress was nice, food was ok but overpriced for such small portions. Seems like if you're not wearing designer labels head to toe or "know someone," you'll receive peasant treatment. Extremely loud atmosphere as well. Lastly, they did not let my guest in who was wearing dress shorts (he had to go home to change), but ripped up jeans, hats, and dresses barely covering private parts are apparently okay with them. What a joke! Wish we had gone elsewhere to celebrate.

Food was ok. Expected way better. I’m surprised considering the reviews I saw prior to going. Staff is also all blonde hair and very white. So it is obvious they treat you different when you don’t look like them. So if you’re going, make sure you are wearing designer clothes and are Caucasian. You’ll probably get treated better then us. If you haven’t gone, you’re not missing out. I suggest going elsewhere. Ruth’s or ocean prime are way better choices.

Timing finally worked out that I could grab a table for lunch. I was disappointed that the wedge salad was served in a grandma style soup of dressing. And chopped not a wedge, which is curious considering the description. The tomatoes were mealy and already past their date. I’ve no doubt they probably do other items well but the salad experience left a lot to be desired. The service was top notch and since that’s hard to come by is appreciated. The atmosphere was pleasant especially the music at a talking volume. I will return, just not for salad.

Meat Market is a fine dining restaurant serving American cuisine located in Hyde Park Village within Tampa, Florida. I frequently visit this restaurant. The menu is extensive, in terms of options. Regarding quality and presentation of food, the items I’ve ordered were excellent.. I’ve had most everything on the menu, which were all amazing. Everything has always come cooked to order. Portion size was appropriate for the price point and restaurant style. Customers can expect to pay roughly seventy-five per person, including drinks. My favorite lunch menu items is the Meat Market steak. My favorite brunch menu items are the breakfast gnocci, and the short rib and eggs. My favorite dinner menu items are the wagyu filet, crispy brussel sprouts, and the truffle cream corn. And everytime I go, I have to get a few orders of the white truffle wagyu tartare. Beverage wise, I usually do the champagne bottle service, the bloody mary pitchers, or the Pretty in Pink, Honey Bunny, or Rose Spritz which were all pretty good. (though I do ask them to not make it too sweet). I do usually make reservations in advance, and it takes approximately 5-10 minutes to be seated. You can walk up for bar seating most of the time during the day, but at night and on the weekends, you will definitely want a reservation. For larger parties, you will want to make the reservation several days in advance and specify where you want to be seated. If you’re doing a dinner, be sure to sit inside because it does get quite muggy. Most of the time, the first round of drinks comes out quick, but you have to be assertive for the following rounds. Appetizers and main course come out in a reasonable amount of time.. I have heard people had a hard time getting sat evening with a reservation, but this hasn’t been my experience. The serving staff is upbeat though sometimes preoccupied. I’d best describe the atmosphere of the restaurant as being sophisticated and modern. It’s feels very posh, which does lend itself to the intended brand identity and cuisine style. Regarding ambiance, the restaurant is naturally lit and the noise level is loud. It is a good choice for families with small children on the weekends or during the day, but at night it is almost a night-club feel. YOU MUST BE IN DRESS CODE, THEY WILL TURN YOU AWAY IF YOU ARE WEARING JEANS FOR DINNER. Scale wise, tables are spread out within multiple dining spaces, lending itself to the restaurant’s expansive feel. Overall, it’s arguably my favorite restaurant in Tampa and I would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a bust.
What a bust. The minute you get there, the hostess stand experience is immensely off putting. Every. Single. Time. Let me paint the picture...its the hostess and others that work there, crowding the hostess stand where you, as the guest, should be given their undivided attention. Instead the hostess and the rest of the staff continue their conversation after they have made eye contact with you. I shouldn't have to interrupt your dramatic and unprofessional conversation to get your attention. The hostess should never give her back to the hostess stand, and the guests in front of it, unless she is walking alway for warranted reasons that are part of the job. When did people forget or not realize to be courteous, welcoming and professional in a hospitality environment? Just because it's "The Meat Market" doesn't mean you throw that away. Then we are seated on the edge of the patio where the sun creeped up on us in the middle of our experience. The HOT Florida sun. No one should be seated in those tables, at that time, around 3PM mid summer, when there are plenty of tables on the opposite side against the wall. They should know better. Our waiter, Alex, was the best part of the experience. The drinks were great, but the food was nothing special. The hostess stand is a mess and the people working the stand need to be replaced or properly trained for the role. Aside from this, anytime I have called, texted, or emailed with the staff, they are repulsively incompetent.
