Our favorite place to celebrate! <3
My husband and I were back at Millennium for my birthday again, and as usual, it was fabulous! We have been going for many years - even back when Millennium was in SF. I recommend the Little Gem salad and the Coriander and Arborio Crusted Oyster Mushrooms as an appetizer. I'm not even a mushroom person, but they're great. Be sure to try the cocktails - alcohol or NA, also a wonderful treat with a rotating menu and a creative bar. The mains and desserts rotate a lot with seasonal produce but you really can't go wrong! The patio is nice year round because they have heat lamps out there. Also please note - Millennium gives back to the community donating proceeds from dinners on certain nights to a different charity (often animal related) each month.

This is one of the best restaurants in the world. Very good vegan & vegetarian food with a revolving menu and a price fixed menu as well. Great mocktails & deserts. Great service. Parking on the street. We have been coming here for years We've had lunch & dinner, & have had their price fixed menus & a la carte. My wife and & honestly have liked everything they have ever served.

The high rating in TripAdvisor led us to Millenium which is next door to us in Rockridge. We had a bad experience . We learned after the fact that the locals think it’s between mediocre or just overpriced . The Soup was salty , and the food tasteless , bland . The attire of the waiters surprised us . They wore Arab scarf , but the service was good except for a loose scarf touching the hamburger . Maybe the restaurant is going down ?

We had exceptionally tasty dinners here in this vegan restaurant in our neighborhood. Very comfortable seating, pretty interior. Service was good. But the standout was the quality of the food. Fascinating menu and all of our dishes were delicious. A true gem.
Be the first to ReplyMillennium Restaurant - Worst food experience ever!
I went today to Millennium Restaurant (Oakland) to celebrate my niece birthday. The only thing I could eat there was oyster mushrooms offered as an appetizer. I had to return my main dish mushrooms shawarma - it was terrible - I don't know what you need to do (on purpose) to spoil such simple ingredient as mushrooms. But the Chief did it! Genius! It was uneatable - burned and with so much some kind of spices seeds, or what ever they used - it was so bitter to the point of a gag reflex. For sweets I chose the cream brûlée - I think they should start posting the instructions on how to eat it. Don't eat creme brûlée with out sweet cream that is on-top, or you get the after taste of Vaseline in your mouse. But to be fair - the service was pretty good. They offered me a replacement for the meal I did not eat (I chosen burger. And the staff was very friendly and attentive. To make long story short: - very expensive - they charge over $100 per person for 3 course complete dinner and I feel it is a complete rip-off. I also feel that majority of positive feedbacks for this restaurant are fake (done by employees, friends and/or family members.) Stay away don't spoil your evening!
Be the first to ReplyFreezing cold and horrible service.
Hard to know where to begin, except at the beginning. I have been eating at Millenium since they were on McAllister street in San Francisco, I lived up the hill on McAllister. I followed them to the hotel location in downtown San Francisco, and then to the current Oakland location. I have spent most of my birthdays having dinner with friends here, including this past May and again in July with a friend. I booked reservations as my good friend was in town from Australia and I wanted to take her some place special. We were seated 30 mins late as I can't sit on the high top tables as I have a disability. So we were fine waiting. We got a table right next to kitchen door, the outside door in kitchen was open, we noticed it at the bar as it was so cold. The back door to the patio was tied open, outside was 48 degrees, it was a wind tunnel and freezing. As we walked to our table a guy from the kitchen walked out and said aye aye aye more people in Spanish. I was taken aback and felt quite unwelcome. The noise coming out of the kitchen was intense. I have sat at this spot before and it was not like this. The plates at our table were wet and mine had a short black hair on it. The service was so bad, the person who was our server had no idea how to manage a table, appetizer plates just left in front of us when main was delivered. We were never offered a drink by our server. She was sweet but really had zero clue how to serve. The food, now the appetizers were just bad, my friends soup was cold and had 5 chunks of potato and about 2mm deep of broth. She sent it back and they had heated it up, it had barely any flavor. My salad was listed as persimmon and onion salad, two tiny slices of persimmon and a mile high pile of radichio which was so bitter, on the side was supposed to be flat bread, instead there was this giant chunk of stale brown bread, so dry it was like a rock, no exaggeration, you could not even get a knife into it. I asked a guy walking by if this was supposed to be this. way, he disappeared came back 5 mins later with two pieces of flat bread some oil and vegan butter on the side, soft and warm. He said it's supposed to be like that and vanished. It was not even the same bread that had come on my plate. There were some items on the menu not available as they had run out, we wondered if they had run out of our appetizers, as it just felt like the dregs. When our mains came we had them box it up along with desserts and we left, as we were both freezing, and both wearing coats, it was so loud and service appalling. We finished our meal at my warm home, the mains were good and desserts were good. It was fixe pre $65 each, I was so upset by this experience that I will not be back. The table of six behind us, started talking to us and they had the exact same experience, all had never been before and they said they would never come back. I thought about contacting Eric Tucker directly and not posting on social media, but I think people need to know about bad experiences. For the price I expect better, a lot better.
Be the first to ReplyWhat did I put in my mouth?
This was likely the most rotten food experience I've had recently. I went on a weekend when the only option was a prix fixe menu (four courses). Only one of the courses was an amuse bouche: not even an appetizer, but random bits sent out by the restaurant (a bread roll, a few olives, some pickled vegetables) that can hardly be said to count as a course. If you understand French, you'll know what I mean when I say that my mouth was not very amused. Fast forward to the next course: the appetizer. I chose fried green tomatoes. And the fried green tomatoes were well done: crispy and tasty. But the sauce that came with them demoted the dish from competent to ... well, can I say it, I wanted to spit it out. There was a sweet sauce that just overwhelmed the tomatoes. Ugh. The main course was an overcooked pasta. If the noodles weren't so limp, I might have enjoyed it. Finally, the dessert. A peach shortcake with whipped cream. The fruit was delicious as was the whipped cream. But the shortcake was like a hard tack I've read about in sea faring novels. And the service. Bad. The wrong cocktails were brought out, and brought out after a long delay. The waiter tried to rush us through the mediocre meal (you have 90 minutes), but was often nowhere to be found when we needed to signal our distress. I raised the white flag of surrender. Then was charged $90 for my portion. Won't be returning.
Be the first to ReplyBland food which is a struggle to eat
We chose this restaurant after viewing their website. Expectations were set high with phrases like “the #1 vegetarian restaurant in the world” and a Michelin Bib gourmand award. My starter was described as a vegan take on crab cakes. I found the dish to be unexceptional. Bland taste and boring texture. I also tried the crusted oyster mushroom. This was a much better dish than the crab cakes. It was described by the waiter as a vegan take on calamari. A useful comparison but an unfortunate one as I am not vegan and can vouch that calamari would satisfy my taste buds for effectively. My friend was disappointed with his pasta main course as it was not cooked al denote as he requested. My main course glazed tempeh was so bland I had to leave most of it uneaten. I started to think that a carnivore was just out of place in a vegan restaurant. But a couple of days later I ate at Cafe Gratitude and found their food to be bursting with flavour. So can only conclude that Millennium Restaurant don’t know how to make vegetarian food taste good. I won’t return to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyVery Disappointed in Millennium Restaurant!
Although the food was tasty, the service and ambiance was poor. We were here for dinner, and sat at a table next to a blasting speaker, where loud music played. The restaurant (indoors) was freezing cold. Everyone was wearing their jackets . Ordered wine pairing with the fixed price dinner. It was off course, (wrong wine with course). We weren't given enough time to finish our food, before next course delivered. After this poor dining experience, we attempted to call the restaurant to speak with owner/management on two different ocassions. Both calls never returned. We were long term customers at their former location in S.F. Always a great experience there. Poor overall dining experience!

This vegan restaurant was a must-visit for me years ago when traveling to Oakland. It did not disappoint then, and, during my recent trip to Oakland, it remained a unique culinary adventure. The creativity is unparalleled as vegan cuisine is taken to a whole new level. Our party of six sampled almost every main dish and each was both a work of art and a rare combination of excellent ingredients, spices and sauces. Both inside and outside dining in a heated patio are available in a casual, friendly atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation and be ready for a memorable evening,,,even if you’re a carnivore!

A Michelin Star Vegan restaurant in Oakland? I was surprised as you are. Not a vegan, but my date was so decided to give it a shot. Staff were friendly and professional of course. Started off with a blackberry lime soda. Sweet and tart. I ordered the flatbread starter with some some sort of squash spread. Intensely flavorful! Also ordered the crusted oyster mushroom with a veganaise dipping sauce. It popped! My date and I both ordered the burger topped with an onion ring. The patty was a black lentil sunflower concoction and I have to say this: it was one of the best burgers I ever had! The fingerling potatoes were delicious as well! For dessert I highly recommend the s’mores torte! Very rich and decadent. Ambiance was great and being on College Ave, lots to do if you have to wait for your table. Thoroughly enjoyed Millennium. It was my first Michelin experience and I have to say I may continue the fine dining exploration.
Be the first to ReplyWorst service experience of my life
First off, I would like to specify that the food & cocktails that we had were absolutely phenomenal. But our experience with the service was absolutely terrible and one of the worst I've ever had. As two best friends that haven't seen each other in almost two years, who have a modest income and have been extremely isolated for the last year and a half, we were excited for our first night "out" to a fancy and unique restaurant. Unfortunately it was completely ruined by staff that just did not care at all about giving us even respectable service. We made reservations 3 weeks ahead of time for 8:30pm (the only available slot at the time) and made sure to anticipate being out in 1.5 hrs at 10pm. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that they were extremely behind and were having trouble flipping tables between seatings because patrons were taking well over the 1.5 hr allotted time period. Being a former hostess/server of 10+ years, this is something that I know can be tricky so we knew to practice some patience. I made sure to ask the hostess that even though we'd be seated later than planned, we wouldn't be rushed out due to the kitchen closing and she assured us we definitely would not be - I was still a little concerned but didn't want to assume this would be the case especially at such a sophisticated establishment. After waiting for 40 mins I suggested to the hostess that we start our meal at a higher bar table right next to the front window (we were uncomfortable with sitting indoors but the front window was wide open so felt there would be a good about of ventilation). We made sure to order our starters and drinks right away trying to make this process a little easier on the staff. It took 15 minutes for us to get our drinks because the bartender was sitting at the bar on her phone. We got our starters well before the bartender decided that maybe it was time to make our cocktails. This is where I started to get upset. We were doing everything we could to make the night easier on the staff and were already being treated like we were worthless. When our original table for our reservation was finally available on the patio it was an hour and 15 mins past our reservation time. The servers were obviously trying to figure out who would be staying to serve us and the gal that ended up with us was clearly very unhappy judging by the way she approached our table with no greeting and a brunt "so do you want more food or what?". We explained that we'd put in more food with our previous server and were met with "oh I have no idea what's even going on but I guess I have to find out". She then forced us to put in the rest of the food that we were planning to get which then all came out approx. 2 minutes later and were shoved hastily on to the table by who I am pretty sure was the floor manager that night. At this point we were frantically trying to eat the many course at once that we had hoped would come throughout our seating time at a leisurely but reasonable pace - as anyone expects at a sophisticated restaurant. It's worth it to mention that there were still other tables continuing their meals around us so it's not as if we were the only table in the restaurant just taking our sweet time completely ignoring the clues of closing. As I said we frantically ate as much as we could, feeling completely unwelcome, hurried, resented and worthless. At NO POINT did the server come back to ask us how our meal was or if we needed anything else. We wanted more flatbread for this amazing sweet miso/pepper chutney flatbread dish and I had to hunt my server down finding her sitting at the bar on her phone. Once again - I guess the staff at this restaurant are allowed to "clock out" whenever they see fit. This whole time - where we were obviously being rushed out and mistreated, the gentleman who I assumed was the manager did not come over once to apologize for the way the night had been, maybe offer us a free dessert or comp some of the food that came hastily that we shoved down our throats while they closed up the patio (sending the obvious message that we should just get out) as a way to maybe remedy the situation or acknowledge that we had a less than even decent time. We made a reservation 3 weeks ahead of time, planned to be out in 1.5 hrs as asked, showed up on time, remained patient when told we couldn't be seated right away and even began problem solving ourselves by suggesting we sit at that table in the window while we waiting for our original patio table. We even ordered quicker and made ourselves ready to go to make it easier on the staff to start us off later. We were punished for something that was not our fault. I know we've all had a rough year but please do better. Even after being patient, kind and mindful of the staff and what a rough time this has been for restaurants and their staffers, this was still completely unacceptable. Please consider NOT having 8:30pm as a reservation option because your staff and kitchen are obviously not willing to accommodate that seating time especially when it's pushed later because you don't give a long enough window for earlier seatings to leave. We did everything right and were still treated as though we were just some horrible late night walk ins. They also deleted my reviews from Facebook and Google and never responded to a private Facebook message and phone call.

Been a Millenium-ite since 1994-1995. The original location, on the ground floor of the old Abigail Hotel on McAllister Street, was quaint and loaded with character. Though at times a bit cramped, the several rooms made for a European feel. When Millennium moved to the Savoy on Geary, I followed, only to be disappointed by the hugeness of the place, the steak-house feel, the heavy fabric drapes, and a devolving clientele (which included many see-and-be-seen types as well as nouveau riche, sock-less hipsters clad in boat shoes and tiny blazers straining against gym-rat muscles). One night at the Savoy was veritably a man-bun exposition. When Millennium moved to College Avenue in Oakland, we went a few times. Enjoyed the happy hour and an occasional cocktail. But as the dining scene in the East Bay continued to evolve, we turned away from one of our favorite establishments as it sought to re-establish its own primacy. Thus, July 1, 2021, is an evening that will live forever in our minds and on our palates. While the delta variant of everyone's favorite Trump legacy, COVID-45, was beginning to mitigate the gains of recent months, we decided to return to Millennium. A great evening. The food was fantastic. We enjoyed a variety of salads. The two tacos, one oyster mushrooms and the other a medley of various items (such as vegetarian chorizo and poblano peppers), were excellent. Texture and flavor both scored. As my main, I ordered the Tempeh. While a bit salty, this was just a well balanced and excellent dish. Again, texture and flavor. For dessert? I actually tried the chocolate olive oil brownie. Texture, flavor, dark chocolate . . . . As someone who rarely (almost never) eats dessert, the brownie was a nice exception. Service was excellent. COVID protocols in place. Value was very good, as every labor-intensive item was under $30, plus a prix fixe for $60 (four items). Will return. - workingman's gourmand
Be the first to ReplyMany Things Were Wrong
Sadly many things went wrong. They did not honor our reservation making us wait 30 minutes for our table with a flimsy excuse that they could not predict when a table would be ready. Nothing was done to make us feel welcome. Once seated we had to wait a long time for our order to be taken. Our server disappeared for long periods of time so the evening dragged on and on. Toward the end, almost all of the staff were seated at the bar drinking while we waited for someone to show up to take our dessert order. Our meals were not well executed, too many flavors on one plate. A sorbet dessert was spoiled by the addition of huge amounts of hot chili powder, inedible, I don't think we will be back.
