Leave it to the Valet to ruin your date
After a lovely night with my partner and I. We were yelled at by the Valet for parking on a public street. The older so-called gentlemen called us dumb for parking on a street then threaten to call the cops, as if we were doing something wrong. Place is a joke.

Used to go here all the time when I was an executive at the studios. On a whim, the wife and I drove over from our home in the hills. The place was the same other than a new extension into the parking lot. The food was also not the issue. What we got was reasonably good. What was deeply disappointing, injurious, and incredible was the service as well as the follow-up. Shortly after we sat down (in the parking lot addition), a waiter (or busser) behind me poured red hot coffee down my back. I think he tripped (a parking lot is not a dance floor) while carrying a large pot of it on a tray. It was so hot and unexpected, however, it felt like I'd been stabbed. I somewhat comically shot up out of my seat, almost turning over the table. My wife was so surprised she literally teeter-tottered and almost fell off her chair. I suppose it was about half a cup, but it immediately burned right through my shirt (enough to get blisters the next day). Ok. So, accidents happen. I'm a big boy and a 2nd-degree burn, and a stained shirt is not the end of the World. I'm also relatively easy to please. A glass of wine and a bit of empathy go a long way in my book. What was incredible was the reaction or lack thereof from either the staff or management. Our waiter did eventually mutter an apology but only after I complained about the total lack of reaction. He then begrudgingly suggested he bring me some ice. This arrived sometime later in a plastic shopping bag. I'm not exactly a giant baby, but when I applied the ice I groaned a bit. The waiters' response. "Yeah, buddy...nothing like a nice bag of ice huh?" That was a bit perplexing. Anyway. That was it. Nothing else. The manager/owner (Henry) later turned up and asked us how everything was and if we needed any more bread. I was sitting hunched over with a shopping bag of ice pressed up against my back dribbling all over the floor, (the ice, not me). Maybe he thought that was normal? It was a warm evening. Regardless, my response was suitably icy. We asked for the check, paid, and fled before something else damaged us further. Ok. So, the next day I can't quite get over the experience and I'm a little pissed about the stain all over my nice dress shirt so, against my wife's always better judgment, I called Henry and left a message. He called back and was actually very understanding! He offered to replace the shirt. Even offered to treat us to dinner! I felt a lot better. I told my wife Henry was great! I was going to send him a bill for a new shirt, we were getting a free feed! She smiled sagely and told me the proof was in the pudding... Sadly, she was correct. It's been weeks since I sent the bill for a new shirt. Crickets. I feel kinda cheap chasing down a shirt but surely Henry hasn't forgotten? Or is the proof indeed in the Mistral pudding? Talk is cheap nowadays and telling people what they maybe want to hear and then doing nothing seems to be the thing...so goes Mistral. Shame. I remember it back in the day. It was a great place. Be the first to ReplySpecial Place. Beautiful food. High prices.
The food and service were excellent. Pretty restaurant. We ate early and sat outside in a garden areaโฆso it was a bit deserted. I guess thatโs good during covid times. The plates were lovely to look at. The food was very tasty. This is a very expensive restaurant. Thankfully I was a guest since it would have otherwise been a bit much for me. If money is no object and you have a special occasion, this is a perfect place to try. I had no idea it had a Micheln rating until I decided to jot a review. Convenient Sherman Oaks location. Valet parking available.

We ate at Mistral twice this week, once with my wife and the second with my wife, daughter and BF. From out of town. Fantastic food. Had one of the best porks chops ever, great sautรฉed (not fried) calamari, my wife had the lobster risotto. My family also had the John Dory, lamb chops and arugula salad. All excellent. Wait staff is great. Manager very friendly. One of the nicest dining experiences we've had in a long time

My husband and I went out on a date last night. We only had couple of hours and wanted to stay local. Mistral never disappoints! This place has been in business for decades with the same owner, manager and staff! Everything is on point! The food is absolutely delicious, amazing wine list, service is impeccable! Definitely worth going and definitely our go to place, from dates to family dinners! Everything is really good on the menu, these are some of the things we ate.

This is a small, high end french bistro. Great food, quiet atmosphere, wonderful service. We have been here 3 times this year and every meal has been great. I highly recommend the new york steak with garlic and the chocolate souffle. The wine list is good but slightly pricey. Overall a great experience.

Mistrial is an amazing and simple restaurant; provide the best service, provide a beautiful atmosphere, and great food with daily specials. They have amazing NY strips, served perfectly to temperature, amazing fish as well.
They also offer a deep French wine cellar in addition to some great California wine.
Itโs small, I would not recommend it for small children or groups over 8.
Bon appetite

Best Place in the Valley
Mistral has stood the test of time! For 30 years they have been pumping out meal after wonderful meal. Very well trained staff attends to all your needs. Standard Bistro fares, but daily specials are there as well. Never miss an opportunity to eat here.
Be the first to ReplyPretty Good French Bistro
Even though it was lunch, had to try the steak frites...had steak au poive with a nice light sauce, well cooked and seasoned fries; wasn't crazy about rather dull and tasteless caesar salad that I started with, but glad it wasn't served with romaine. Excellent service. White tablecloth; napkin switched out to black for me before I even sat down. Good cappuccino...all-round very good albeit pricey...$37.95 for entree, albeit $2.50 for small salad; $5.50 for cappuccino...
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Service
We have been here about 30 times and have had a fantastic experience every time. I am a vegan and they always made me something special I could eat. The service is 5 star both at a table or even if you dine at the bar. It is a small place. It is such an inviting place that it is one of 3 restaurants we go to if we have any special occasion. Everyone I have been there with has loved their food. It can be pricey but well worth it!
