Had a very disappointing dinner last night.
The quality and service were just not what I expect from a place like that. The food was bleh. The menu was very disappointing. The service was really off from a place like this. Last time I was here there was plastic from the hangar steak cooked under my steak. Get it together please. We have such a jewel here, but locals just don't want to visit anymore. Bring back the old Montage where every meal was a delight. Where excellent service was the norm, and you were always guaranteed a nice time.

I can't find the words to describe how much my husband and I enjoyed our vacation and stay at Montage Laguna Beach. It was remarkable.Service - Oh my. The Montage team crossed every T and dotted every I. This is what true hospitality looks like. From the moment we arrived, the valet was helpful, to the woman checking us in, to the STELLAR service provided by the room attendants and everyone we encountered throughout our stay- we felt like royalty. They were attentive, friendly and just overall cared about taking care of you. Details, details, details. They think of everything. The concierge was also very helpful. Property - The property was beautiful, with well manicured lawns and gardens. The pool area was nice, spacious with lots of places to relax, including a jacuzzi. There was a kids area and separate "paintbox" space that looked to perhaps have activities for kids. Although we didn't book a service at the spa, my husband accessed the sauna/steam and enjoyed it. We enjoyed dessert and coffee in the lobby one evening. It was pretty good. We also really enjoyed our dinner -- the grouper was magnificent and crรจme brรปlรฉe delightful.Room- phenomenal view even from the side. Balcony to enjoy morning coffee and Nespresso machine in room with a variety of flavors to enjoy. Plush, comfy bedding. Great tub, separate sinks and a shower with nice beauty projects.Im sure there are more things I can mention, but I will wrap it up. Attention to detail is important and that truly contributed to our extraordinary experience. I can't wait to book our return trip. Bravo Montage Laguna Beach.

This property is beautiful, overlooking the ocean with dramatic ocean views from lobby and guest rooms. Beach is easy to access by walking down stairs that hug the cliff, the pools are big enough for the hotels size and poolside service is better than average. I would avoid ordering food at the pool as it is not as good as in the restaurant. Love their pop ups- during our stay it was a Thai pop up with a great outdoor set up, bistro lights, outdoor kitchen etc. kids loved the montage merits program and paintbox. Rates are steep for what you get -it is $1800 a night for a standard sized hotel room!!! But it is a great place.

Although the property is beautiful, if you are black stay away. We were there to celebrate our 36th anniversary and when we arrived we were greeted by a nice valet, front desk, concierge and bell hop. The Concierge upgraded our room and walked us through the hotel. The room was beautiful and we were surprised with the upgrade. Great start to our stay for our anniversary. We went to the open lobby lounge and enjoyed time there before heading to dinner and planned to end our day at the open seating lobby lounge when we returned. We returned and eventually the comfortable couches near the musician opened and we sat down and began to enjoy the remaining of our evening. We were later approached by a bus boy who said "you cannot sit here, I meant to put a reserve sign here for someone important". We looked around and noticed there were no reserve signs anywhere and at this point we were the only black couple in the room, why do we have to move and by this point there was no other place to sit near the music. My husband asked for a manager and she proceeded to say that a founder called and ask to reserve the spot and we would have to move. Well there was no reserve sign anywhere in the lounge. All the joy we felt when we first arrived was deflated and to top it off we had booked two more reservations to return in October and December. We do not care about a founder in an open seating area, we are all important. Then the manager says the founders son is playing and he wants to be near him we didn't believe this for one moment and certainly did not impress us. Everyone staying at that hotel are paying guests and there is no cheap room in the place. Everyone should be treated with respect. We watched the musician setup, and the lady who was with him sat right by him, and there was a couch with other people next to him and her. If this is supposed to be his father, why didn't they ask the people next to them to move. Why did they single us out. Well, we know why. My husband told them we would not stand for this disrespect and would not stay there overnight. We packed up our room and asked that they not charge us. They apologized and accommodated our request. We have subsequently canceled our October and December reservations and will go back to hotels that cater to all. This may sound petty to some but it was the cold tone of the waiter and manager who caused this and could have handled this situation better.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a magical place.
Once you walk through the lobby you see the ocean and are involved in a refined ambiance with piano playing in the background. All employees greet you with a smile and you feel at home. For Valentine's day they usually have a fix menu (+$250 per person) but if you are vegan they can make accommodations for you. Highly recommended.

It was my first time in a Montage property and had a great experience. The checkin process was seamless with the receptionist escorting us to our room (finding it ourselves would have been a bit challenging given the multiple elevators and hallways). The room was nice with a comfortable bed and great view. We had a king size bed with an adjacent couch and sitting area along with a balcony. I liked that there were two nightstands with ample plugs / USB ports. I still find myself having to unplug lamps in hotel rooms to keep my devices charging near my bed. Housekeeping and turndown was very attentive, going the extra effort to fold any clothes left out and to leave me a cleaning cloth for my sunglasses. The property itself was beautiful, we spent most of the time by the pool. They keep it heated to 82 degrees which even with the sometimes chilly January air felt warm. We had breakfast daily, had the eggs benedict, most days and found it to be one of the best I've had. The English muffin, prosciutto, spinach and hollandaise sauce all complimented each other very well, the eggs were also perfectly cooked. We used the complimentary house car most days to go into town. The drivers were always nice and the car itself was a beautiful late model Escalade. They gave you a direct number to call for pickup. The only issue I observed during my stay is the valet would get a bit crazy in the evenings. There was high demand for the house car (understandably so) so that wasn't an option, but with lots of people coming and going there was always a traffic jam getting through the driveway. Not sure what the solution is here as there isn't much room to widen the driveway so I guess just plan on an extra wait coming and going in the evening. All in all a great hotel, wouldn't hesitate to return.

The spa was everything! It's like an upscale Burke Williams. Would definitely go again. Check out Mosaic restaurant while you're there.
Be the first to ReplyMy business travels now take me out to the montage two
My business travels now take me out to the montage two times a year, and this is my third year for these trips. In my business I get to attend several business conferences in locations all over the country, none of my meetings are held at average resorts or hotels. The montage takes the top of the list in my experience. First let's talk about the location. The property is sitting right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean with unobstructed views as far as the eye can see. The landscaping between the hotel property and the cliffs that leads down to the beach is unlike any landscaping I seen anywhere, just plain spectacular. The hotel property , rooms, restaurants, swimming pool are all spectacular. I have included a picture looking out of my room on my most current visit just one week ago. If you want to have a amazing visit to Southern California I can recommend without hesitation the montage resort.
Be the first to ReplyI grew up right next to this hotel and always enjoyed
I grew up right next to this hotel and always enjoyed walking around the park and being invited by the owners to celebrate New Years in their lobby. Things have really changed since the new ownership it seems. I was visiting home around Christmas and me and my two friends gathered at the fire pit which we have done so many times before. After enjoying about 15 mins catching up, a security guard by the name of Sam, asked us to leave since we weren't "guests". Mind you, I'd been to that bonfire for years with no problem. He got in our faces and told us we were trespassing though we were literally just sitting there enjoying ourselves no causing any harm to anyone or anything. When did the rules become so strict? We asked for more clarification on why was private and public since we had never had an issue and he couldn't give us a clear answer so we just decided to call it and leave. He then brought his 2 managers down as we were walking back to our cars. As we were walking he yelled at us "here's my managers, see you can talk to them and they'll tell you you're wrong!" It was a really cold and uncomfortable situation heightened by a power hungry security guard who could use some retraining in hospitality management. I hope this is not the norm or direction the hotel staff is going. I'm not looking forward to going back. Just a shame really!
Be the first to ReplyI'd be doing everyone a disservice if I didn't start off
I'd be doing everyone a disservice if I didn't start off talking about how amazing the staff is here!!! If I had to give a review purely on the staff it would be 5 stars without a question. You have a question, issue, or need anything all of the staff members are quick to assist you with whatever your need is. If you are looking to host an event here they have conference rooms available with food options for buffet or bag lunches for your event. There are three locations to choose from if you want to eat here and leave your room, or you can order room service. Special events have conference rooms or the Studio available for hosting. You can also request to have an outdoor event/meal as part of your conference.Ok enough about the food, let's talk rooms!! There is a large variety of rooms from two queen beds or a king to a villa with two king and one queen size bed with 2 full bathrooms and 3/4 bathroom! Something for everyone. The rooms are spacious and everyone of them faces the ocean, E-V-E-R-Y O-N-E of them! So everyone can watch the sunset. The bathrooms has a deep soaking tub and standalone standing shower with double sinks. The beds are soooo soft and there is a place to sit both inside and outside the room. There is an honor bar when you enter you room with a variety of alcoholic beverages and snacks for sale. You can pay for them to remove the honor bar from your room if you want. There are multiple pools and hot tubs on site for your use, with option to pay for classes in the pool for kids and cabanas you can reserve. There are stores throughout the resort for you to look around and see what store catches your eye. If you are looking for something cheaper you can walk across the street or go shopping down the street. There is also a spa on premise that you can pay for services. The gym is right there next to the spa with a wide variety of equipment from weights to treadmills to Peloton bikes that you can sign-in with your account for classes. You have an ocean view from the treadmills. There are places to relax such as the lounge or the bars throughout the resort or you can go outside to a firepit, go to the path and go for a walk or walk down to the beach tan, swim, or walk along the beach for awhile and enjoy the arch to the right. You can utilize the concierge to make reservations for other events that you want to do such as snorkeling or whale watching.Lastly, they do have valet parking available for your convenience so you do not have to worry about parking your vehicle.Just remember this is a 5 star resort so the prices for everything is in keeping of that, so this may not be the place for you to go every year, but if you can afford it for a trip for a few days to relax and unwind it is worth it.
Be the first to ReplyToday we visited the Lobby Lounge for drinks and to listen
Today we visited the Lobby Lounge for drinks and to listen to the piano. As usual it's a great place with a good vibe and a good way to spend the afternoon.Let's talk dogs. Montage seems intent to turn the lounge and lobby area into a dog park. There was a dog with a guest at the high top table next to the bar and piano. A guest had a dog sitting on the couch next to the fireplace. Another guest was wandering through to reception with 3 dogs on a leash like a professional dog walker. So, 5 dogs on the bar and reception area. Is this a resort or a dog hotel? I asked just that question to the reception desk clerk. He said Montage is a dog friendly hotel. Can I bring my cat or an iguana?
