Monterey New York Reviews from The Last Year
While I give good praise for the service here, the food was
While I give good praise for the service here, the food was quite unimpressive. I ordered the steak frites, rare/medium rare (as long as still red). The initial plate delivered was very well done. There was no bearnaise sauce, and I asked three times for it before I even saw how well done the steak was. I got salt, pepper, ketchup, dijonnaise, and a steak sauce in response to my inquiry about the missing bearnaise (and no bearnaise) Finally, I tried the steak and ack! It was like shoe leather. They kindly and swiftly took it back to the kitchen. A new plate arrived a reasonable time later, this time with the elusive bearnaise sauce. Fries were fresh, crispy and hot! Unfortunately, while the steak was cooked as I requested, the cut was so chewy, I couldn't enjoy much of it. Five stars for service, but I would not go back for the food.
Food was excellent! Service was superior! The Crispy
Food was excellent! Service was superior! The Crispy artichokes are to die for!! Sitting at the bar or at a table doesn't matter - ALL top-notch!
Contrived reviews?
Finding this very odd. This place was fantastic. Food literally excellent - service great, great menu. Really loved the feel and open kitchen. Just cannot recognise the comments here. My only slight criticism was the music was a bit loud - but every thing else was great.
The venue is fantastic.
It's a great vibe, very bright and colorful. I love the ample space both vertical and between tables; so different from most NY restaurants that are jamming in as much as they can into tight spaces. Service was also great, our server was very friendly and the food came out incredibly quickly. I got shakshuka and found it just OK, I've had better. It wasn't well seasoned enough and without a ton of toast it just came with a fork. Really hard to eat liquidy shakshuka with just a fork... I'd come back but get something else.
Called for walk in on a Tuesday at noon, got reservation
Called for walk in on a Tuesday at noon, got reservation for 1:15pm Food was excellent overall, would get the scallops, duck & goat ragout, broccolini & chocolate tart again. Wouldnt get the tuna tartare again, it was good but the uni threw me off. I would have preferred without it. Service was also good but similar to other reviews, can be slightly overbearing, bringing it down one notch would be perfect. Had the doors to the outside open, really open and large space overall, hard to find such in nyc. Relaxed & upscale vibe.
Really lovely spot in an area sorely lacking for after work
Really lovely spot in an area sorely lacking for after work spots with ambiance! The food was good, not terribly memorable, but the vermouth service was definitely worth coming back for and the decor is luxe! Great place for a work lunch or dinner, or a fancy dinner out if you're visiting and staying in Midtown.
Did not enjoy my time here at all .
.. It was my first time at this restaurant .. Manager that goes by the name of Florin was very nonchalant and rude about a concern I had about an Allergic reaction my sister caught while eating a dish there ! He told me "well Mam hopefully your next visit is better and walked away ".. Please be more selective on who you make managers or supervisors these people have no empathy for customers .
Really cool spot with phenomenal service! They had AMAZING
Really cool spot with phenomenal service! They had AMAZING cocktails, from their iconic spicy margarita to their XXX (passionfruit martini). The food was sensational--I had the filet mignon and tried a variety of their appetizers, including the artichokes, shrimp and salad. I highly recommend that you come check this place out for drinks, or for a dinner vibe.
This review's a little overdue, because I came here for
This review's a little overdue, because I came here for restaurant week, but they definitely deserve some kinds words. The service was very warm and welcoming, and the portions were very large, and the food was good. They were very accommodating to my pesky (but actual) allergy, which I very much appreciate, and I caught a glimpse of their special Friday night and Saturday night Prime Rib Prix Fixe Menu as well as a couple tables around me ordering it, it looked amazing, I can't wait to return to try it!
Unfortunate experiene.
Presentation and service was excellent. Unfortunately, the prime rib special was not. My girlfriend came violently ill from either the Caesar salad or the prime rib. It’s so unfortunate as we love around the concert and were looking forward to adding this restaurant to our list.
Stubborn, unaccommodating policy lost them a future good
Stubborn, unaccommodating policy lost them a future good customer. My father has a law firm two blocks from here. He and 7 other people from his office went there for a business breakfast. If he had had a good breakfast experience, he would have brought one of his partners there for dinner the next night, and this might have become one of the firm's regular eating spots. Instead, he won't go back and here's why... My dad asked for a simple adjustment to a menu item and they refused to accommodate him. He wanted a Western Omelette and they said "no," so he asked for a simple Bacon Omelette and they said that the chef only makes items as listed on the menu. They make omelettes to order there and have both bacon and eggs, but refused to make a simple bacon omelette. In the end, they gave him plain eggs with bacon on the side. Why did they have to give him a hard time? My father does not have food allergies (he's just a 75 year old guy who likes things the way he likes them), but I do have several dietary restrictions, and one of the factors that we use to rate our restaurant experiences is how kind and accommodating the establishment is. I very rarely can just order menu items as is. I never expect a restaurant to magically have ingredients they don't already have, but to the extent that items are made-to-order, it's really important that they try to be nice about making adjustments. If the management for Monterey reads this, I hope you take a look at your policies and consider that it wouldn't cost the restaurant anything to show a bit more kindness and accommodation to your customers, and you might not lose out on another opportunity to gain some regulars.
4.5 to be exact. We came for their weekend prime rib
4.5 to be exact. We came for their weekend prime rib dinner. The place inside was quite roomy. Caesar salad as appetizer was nice, fresh and big. Prime rib was really the showstopper. They carved at table side. It was melt in mouth and seasoned well. We asked for med rare like we like our steaks. The center was a bit too raw. Could probably do medium next time. Forgot to mention their signature onion bread. It was fluffy, moist and flavorful, but a bit steep for $18. Desserts were the least memorable part of the meal. I would be back for more prime rib lol.
Poor service, mediocre food, bad management
We were looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner at Monterey and made our reservations a month in advance. When we arrived on time, they sat us at a table that apparently had no server assigned. We waited an hour to get our first course, and then only after we got the manager involved. Service remained so slow that after nearly two hours, we still had not received our dessert course. This was a prix fixe menu at $100 per person and there was no excuse for this delay. We had to skip dessert in order to make it to a play in time. After the play, I learned that the restaurant cancelled our reservation retroactively so I could not leave a review on OpenTable. Dishonest. And the food was mediocre. We ended up getting room service at our hotel. Very disappointed.
