We went around 5pm so we had the option to sit anywhere.
We chose the sushi bar area so we could watch them make sushi. Our server was very nice and very attentive we didn't have to wait for anything, he was having everything come out in a timely manner. My daughter ordered for us so I apologize for not knowing the names of the dishes but they were delicious.

Here for a family gathering and the service was incredible! I have many allergies which were all accommodated with excellent suggestions as well. The food was truly delicious and met with a lovely ambiance!!

So first of all the service was very good except for a little neurotic place-setting on the part of staff, not sure what that was about but it was eccentric. On the other hand, my mother made a passing remark about the chill and the hostess quickly came back to tell us the manager was increasing the temperature. Food is sushi: I didn't find it "inventive". It was sushi and the usual companions. Prices are stratospheric, our tab for three people was more than $150 per person. I thought the decor was cold, but I guess appropriate to sushi, you wouldn't want to eat raw fish amongst antiques or Victorian bibelots. The restaurant is a typical Starr operation, stage-managed from start to end, high prices, warm efficient service. This is entirely a question of taste but I find this to be one of his less successful productions, I would never go here as a retreat from the every-day like I would Barclay, Butcher, or Parc. But for someone who has to eat sushi as a sort of tribute to the gods of chic, this is fine.

We did the 8 course omakasi tasting menu with the saki pairing. The saki choices were varied and unique. The tasting menu was fun, but probably too much for us-we should have ordered directly off the menu. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Not sure the cost was worth the experience but it would not keep me from going back to try something else. Our server, Forest, was very attentive/helpful without being pushy. The dining room is open and a bit loud for a quiet dinner date but would be good for a group outing.

Morimoto was a pleasant experience my first visit, however the second time around did not exactly hold up to the same standard. My husband and I had 8 pm reservation for dinner on a Friday to celebrate our anniversary. We expected things to be busy but not as slow as it had gone. The restaurant was loud but still had empty tables which meant we would not have to wait long to be seated. We arrived at 8 pm and were seated immediately, our waters followed minutes after. Drinks took about 20 minutes to get to us, and by 8:45 we finally received our appetizers. This time we had ordered the hot stone wagyu and hamachi tartare. After the long wait for our appetizers, which were delicious but obviously small portions, we were ready for our main entrees. By around 9:20 our seafood toban yaki finally arrived to the table. To be clear, the restaurant was busy as it is expected on a Friday night, but the wait felt quite extensive. We opted for dessert and had the fiery chocolate. This was the biggest disappointment. As we went in for our first bite we were met with what tasted like rubbing alcohol, causing us to spit out our dessert. The last time we had enjoyed this tasty dessert, but this time, it seemed as though someone had carelessly drowned the brownie bites in alcohol instead of moderately flavoring it. The entire dessert was hard to eat, being a waste of money. As always, the staff is helpful and informative. The meal itself pricey, not matching the fine dining experience it did our first visit. It could be that this place loses its wow factor after the first visit, or that we came on a bad day. I'm optimistic that maybe in the future another visit will be better.
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good.
Our favorites were the sushi, hot stone, and hamachi. The fiery chocolate was great for show but if you're looking for taste go with one of the other dessert options. Service was good and the place itself is cool - almost like a modern art museum. Only negative was that we had to wait 15 min despite having a reservation. Great spot for date night.

The food was amazing! I'm a vegetarian and they had many things that I could eat. It's such a beautiful restaurant. And some of the meals are made at the table by a very attentive staff! Can't wait to go here again!
Be the first to ReplyWhat can I say.
.... I'd rather be speechless. Morimoto, Iron Chef, this restaurant was a life list. And it made my dream come true!!!! My fiancรฉ surprised me here with a late night dinner reservation after a show. With it being so late (9:30pm on a Saturday), we did not for a second feel rushed or not invited to enjoy our table as long as we wanted. Walked in, was happily greeted and escorted to a high table. Ok- and the details here. Ambiance, so funky and fun! You can get hypnotized by the light changing booths. It's quite intimate in how large the restaurant is. And back to the details- I swear, this was The Most comfortable chair I've sat in for dinner. Lololol, commented on it multiple times during our meal. Beyond chairs- The meal........ THE MEAL!!!!! (I had to take a moment in memory before writing again, ahhhhhh.) Rock Shrimp appetizer first. No grease, how? So fresh, it melted and almost didn't taste fried but yet crunchy. Insane. Then we life listed again and order the Miyazaki Waygu. And shared the small chef combination sushi. The sushi was beautiful. Fresh, clean. I am obsessed with sushi, so if I have to say- was it the best I've had. No. But incredible. Let's move to the Wagyu. Let me preface this with- I DO NOT eat beef. Ok, I dabble when my fiancรฉ eats a steak, or I make him brisket, but I would never order a beef entree for myself. I tried to steal this whole Wagyu from him!!!! It's not steak- it's heaven. Melts. You barely chew. It's another level of food. And they made it really a luxurious experience in how they brought it out and how our waitress showed us the papers to the cow we were eating. Whoa! And then they were kind enough to treat us with a birthday dessert. This restaurant is a MUST do if you love Asian food. Epic, exquisite, best of Philadelphia, iconic.

First off let me just say what a pretty restaurant! the ambiance, the colors, the sleek futuristic design omg I'm obsessed. Very pricey $$$$ but needless to say it was well worth every penny. The flavors for every course were immaculate and the plating is just the cherry on top. Chefs kiss!

Most of the appeal of this restaurant for me came from sitting at the sushi counter and watching the chef prepare everything. I'm not a huge sashimi fan, but my husband is, and he reported only good things from the seasonal selection. I really enjoyed the rolls that I chose, especially the yellowtail. The star of the show for me though, was the chicken katsu curry. We kept smelling it as it came out of the kitchen and couldn't resist. It was so warm and hearty and flavorful. I would definitely go back just to order that!

This is my third time Morimotos but first time doing their omakase experience. The food was good, but the experience was a bit lackluster and the pacing of the courses could have been better.Food wise I thought the Chawanmushi was good and the flavor was well balanced out with the leek oil. The tuna tartare was good but we've definitely had better elsewhere in the city. The two best dishes were probably the poached lobster and the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu (supplement of $80). There was also a snapper dish with wasabi cream, and a sushi plate of 5 fishes (fatty tuna, amberjack, salmon, snapper and snow crab). Nothing to write home about.I've been to a few other omakases in the city and thought this was the least impressive compare others in Philly. Do yourself a favor if you want good omakase, check out Royal sushi, Yanagas omakase, Hiroki or Sakana for a better experience and quality of food. Would stick to the a la cart menu at morimoto.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing.
We had the wagyu and it was to die for, literally melted in our mouths. The restaurant was perfectly clean, from the bathrooms, to the tables, to the floors. Just perfect. The servers were all fantastic. They explained what went into every dish. Answered all our questions throughly, and went above and beyond from beginning to end.The decor was magnificent. Our teenage diaghter couldn't stop posting pictures and videos of the food, decor, and even the plating. Amazing ambiance. It was more than a meal, it was an experience.

Excellent ambiance, food and drinks! Service is great! Definitely a NYC Vibe! Always a good time here! Will visit again in the future! Also, great location in the city!
Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to come to Morimoto ever since it opened
I've been wanting to come to Morimoto ever since it opened years ago but just never made the time to get here. Last night was finally the time to get down and dirty. I came here with my best friend for dinner and it was amazing. The restaurant is a really big rectangle with a grid of mostly 4-top tables in the center which are separated by plastic walls which glow colored hues of blue, red, green, and others which you soon forget about when it came to actually eating the outstanding food. The outer edge of the rectangle has raised 2-top tables. I got to the restaurant a little earlier than my friend so I started with a drink called "Lost in Translation" which was described as a sweet and smoky margarita. It has mezcal within which for me is not a favorite but wow, this drink had a superb balance of the flavors which made it so good for me. My friend came and ordered a "This is a Pen" which has Makers Mark and even chocolate bitters and honey. I got one, too, and just like my first drink where I'm not a huge fan of straight whiskey, the blend of flavors was balanced perfectly where you don't even realize that you don't like the main part of the drink. It was just pleasant to consume. For food, we went with the Seasonal Menu to start. This menu is digital only because it changes weekly. Morimoto imports fresh wild-caught fish and other creatures weekly from Japan. The pieces range in price from $9 to $16 each. You can choose a Chef's Selection of eight pieces of sushi ($75) or sashimi ($80). We were originally going to go with the sushi and split evenly but then advised that the sashimi is two pieces of each so we went with that so we both could experience all of the different flavors chosen by the Chef. I put a picture of what we received. I couldn't tell you what everything we got was, but we did get the favorites of our server, and the main centerpiece was the fatty toro which was recommended for last as it was the best piece of sashimi on the plate. And it absolutely was. Buttery, fatty, sweet, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi with a touch of caviar as a bonus. Just excellent and with all of the other flavors was what we thought was a great value for the quality of the fish. We also went with the fresh wasabi which was explained to us that they take the root and literally grind it using shark skin until we got a nice sized dollop of wasabi. For our entree, we both went with the Seafood Toban Yaki. This was seafood including lobster, whitefish, shrimp, scallop, all immersed in a butter sauce to die for. Everything was perfectly cooked perfectly. We complemented the Toban Yaki with a bowl of wasabi fried rice which upped the game of fried rice. The butter sauce added to the wasabi fried rice was a great addition to the taste. This was an outstanding meal. I'm also giving extra props to Isaiah our waiter who was so professional and just gave us one of the best experiences I've had in a restaurant. He would like some time in the kitchen to learn and improve his food skills! Just a very pleasant person and fun personality who made great recommendations and kept us pleased throughout our time here. $282.28 not including tip for four cocktails (+/- $80) Chef's Choice Seasonal Sashimi Combo ($80), two entrees of Seafood Toban Yaki ($44 each), Wasabi Fried Rice ($10), and fresh Wasabi ($8).My friend and I highly recommend Morimoto.

The sushi rolls had too much scallion and were nothing special. The Morimoto Ramen Soup was subpar. SukiyakiUdon, and Braised Pork Belly were mediocre. I'm Japanese and none of the items i received were even close to authentic. Go anywhere else for good japanese food especially for the price.

5/5 Sad to see the one in NY got closed down. So I tried their Philly location.Oh my, what a treat! Everything that we tried for Omakase was amazing. We opted for the Kobe beef and that was the most delicious beef I've had. I guess these pictures will speak of itself. When we go to Omakase we always try to get the chef's counter for the full experience, the service was amazing and the servers seem knowledgeable about the food. The ambiance was nice but it was a little too dark in the back in my opinion. Overall, I love this place and you should at least give it a try!

My father and I, every time we are able to be together, like to have what we call a "foodie experience" and have a great meal at a fantastic restaurant. Even though I've lived in the Philadelphia area for decades, I had never been to Morimoto, so we decided to go. I just have to say it was one of the greatest meals of my life, and I don't eat sushi! Everything about the experience was memorable, and outstanding: from the interesting interior, to the wait staff, and of course, the excellent food. There was not a bad dish in the bunch. I can't wait to go again and bring my husband!

We had such a great time at Morimoto! We did the Omakase, and I would give 4 out of 5. Great services and hands down, their dishes are very creative and delicious. But one disappointing aspect for me is that it is too westernized. I think I personally prefer dishes that accentuates freshness when it comes to sashimi, but their sauces, flavors, and other creative ways kind of mask the original tastes of key ingredients.

Morimoto was something on my bucket list for a time (ever since my iron chef days of adolescence). The experience was fantastic: extremely knowledge staff (including a sake sommelier), great cuts of fish. However she was pricey (my only qualm). I think you can find great sushi in the city at a slightly more reasonably price, but I absolutely have no regrets. If you've never been, you must try for the experience!
Be the first to ReplyIt is definitely a great restaurant.
I just think it's a bit on the overpriced side. I haven't been there in a while, but i am sure it is still great. I would recommend to at least try it once.

We arrive in Philly in the evening and I am looking for a place to eat so I check the trusty Yelp app and I see there is no wait for a walk in party so we head out to have some Iron Chef quality eats. Staff greets us and is very friendly amd we are led to a prime table towards the rear. Of course, Morimoto isn't cheap eats and is on the pricey side but hey, what do you expect? We order the Hamachi app in ponzu and that is one of my favorites...it doesn't disappoint. We also go for the chef's sushi special and the chirashi bowl...wow...the sushi is so fresh with different types of fish that you just don't get at your local sushi joint...so good. I'd definitely come back and try the omakase when we are back in town...
Be the first to ReplyOmg what a great meal! We ordered the omakase tasting menu
Omg what a great meal! We ordered the omakase tasting menu and it was really good. I did leave pretty full which is always a plus for a set menu! My favorite things off the menu was the wagyu beef steak and the toro tartare. Omg the toro tartare was amazing! The toro was so soft and it came with a soft bao, salt, and various veggies. When you put everything together it was like the perfect combination of soft, crunchy, briny, creamy, salty, and sweet. It was the perfect bite. I also loved the wagyu beef it was so tender and flavorful! I was most excited about the sushi. The sushi was okay, not the best but still really good! We also ordered an extra mackerel nigiri which was good too! I do wish they had more uni incorporated into the tasting menu tho! lol, but still really good! The meal was perfect with the dessert! That dessert was so good! It was creamy and just the perfect amount of sweet the finish off our meal. Oh cocktails are good too! Loved our experience!

Was it pricey? Definitely - but if you're willing to splurge the omakase tasting menu was everything I dreamed a meal could be. Every single dish that came out made me happy and excited, and then sad when I finished it. Certain dishes on the omakase menu can't be ordered a la carte ):

I dropped $400 on dinner and came away with the worst food poisoning of my life. ย We're in town visiting and my husband and I have split all of our food except our Morimoto sushi. ย He's fine and I've been sicker than I've ever been. ย Clearly the chef did not properly wash his hands and now so have norovirus. ย Absolutely terrible.

Got the chef's combo sushi set among other things. Got food poisoning.
