Great lunch!
Our first meal upon arriving. Reserved in advance during a busy Spring Break week. Quickly seated on arrival. Service was a little slow with drinks, but stayed in track with food. Mixed drinks were great, and a nice local beer selection. Food was fantastic! Definitely a go to when in town.

Great experience all the way around. Upscale mountain ambiance, great bar if you're looking to camp out, servers known their stuff, food is flavorful and excellent. We ate light in our second visit -- enjoyed the Coconut "washing machine" cocktails: started with the grilled scallops -- Bam! They rocked with Maitki mushrooms. Wedge (a bit on the lemony and smothered, rather than delicate) - puffed farro was a nice touch. Shared the Lebanese lamb dish - accented by goat cheese, fig chutney and beets -- would request it more medium, though the Chef prefers rare. Still a 5-star dish! Thanks for a great meal!

This was our second visit to Mountain Standard this year and it only confirmed my opinion that it sucks. It's not just that it doesn't live up to the hype, our dining experience last night was truly miserable. The only reason we went there was because we were invited, but it will be our last visit. My wife and I both had mahi, it was overcooked, hard to cut and chewy, so we didn't really mind that it was a very small piece. There was some kind of rectangular tater tot thing that was fried and also overcooked. The people who invited us had some kind of trout dish (for two) which wasn't really big enough to split, had too many bones and our host declined to eat it, but didn't want to complain.
Be the first to ReplyChardonnay very good,Food 4/5 for Vail
Very nice wine list by the glass. Chardonnay from Burgundy was the best glass of wine I had all week in Vail.Food was upscale comfort food. I had roasted chicken( all bones intact) but it was served in a bowl with a dull knife. Interesting flavors but even with a steak knife, it was difficult to eat. Tables are close together so when full, it can get noisy.

Wait times are long but that is to be expected. Dinner was good even though there was a mistake with one of the orders. Management was very attentive and they fixed the mistake. Drinks were great. Perfect atmosphere. Really enjoyed the evening. Had a strip steak, salads, cheese toast app and the tuna poke. Would recommend the restaurant.

Things have changed bit you still know what you're getting when you come here. Classic Vail lodge settings, classic New York Strip. The cocktails are a step above, we love the funny names but we love the taste even more! Both the food and drink offerings are very well balanced, many flavors working in synergy

I hate to be one of those that also do not like my dinner tonight. But unfortunately I am in that camp. Limited menu. I had to force myself to find something to order. And I wound up with the steak. With bone marrow and potato. 8oz steak almost $60. I didn't care for the bone marrow. We had the butternut squash baba ganoush to start which I did like. We had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they gave we had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they gave we had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they we had a snafu with my cocktail. Tonic water from a gun was flat. At a restaurant like this they shouldn't even serve tonic water from a gun. They changed it up for fever tree tonic and charged me three extra dollars lol.. our waiter was very sweet and accommodating. We ordered the pineapple upside down cake for dessert and I did not even eat it and I sent it back and they took it off the bill. But overall for $220 for two of us. Did not really care for my dinner. Wish we had gone somewhere else. Makes me sad

This is a fav spot for many - the Warm Pimento Cheese is a major draw. However, the dinner menu has limited choices (6ish) with repetition through the winter season years. I can never find a dinner main meal to order and settle for another appetizer as dinner. Truly, I'd be happy with an order of the Pimento Cheese for dinner.

The menu has changed. We usually look forward to chefs innovative cuisine but this time was disappointing. True… I did not bother to check the menu before coming in but it’s a place where I go more than 6 times a year. Unfortunately we settled for onion rings and wedge salad. Good as always but came back home to cook dinner.
Be the first to ReplyClassic Vail Lodge-like Dining
The drinks were very unique and the atmosphere was classic, Vail, lodge-like. The pork shank and the chicken salad was tremendous. Highly recommend reservations. This place fills up fast.

Excellent high-quality meal. Top notch biscuit, grilled Mahi Mahi w/ plantain, and Italian dessert. The place was hoppin’. Good service.

There is nothing on their menu for vegetarians. Nothing. However, just ask the chef to make you anything vegetarian and it will be amazing!!!!

Every person we met suggested Mountain Standard to us! We had tried to make reservations about a month in advance and they were booked during our trip. Given the recommendations we tried to sneak in at the bar and got lucky our second night. they were so busy but the bartenders were amazing and the service from Keith was perfect. We had a lovely, light tuna ceviche app and then we had the pork shank and steak entrees. The pork shank was very unique and so tender. The cocktails were fantastic. Ambiance was warm and we had great conversations with those around us. Loved it!

Every time we visit MS, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is wonderful and the service is great. Absolutely our go-to in Vail!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent on all counts
This dinner was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Great waiter (Jordan) excellent food, great customer service. My wife and I shared the special appetizer- a hush puppy stuffed with blue crab and topped with a wonderful combination of micro greens and sweet red pepper sauce. Yum! She had the mahi mahi for her entree and I had the corned pork shank with Gruyère mashed potatoes, cabbage salad and a black garlic Demi sauce. All during our meal our waiter was attentive, kept our water glasses filled and was spot on for menu selections. The managers (Charles and Katy) were very friendly and customer oriented, coming around to tables to make sure everything was to our liking. It is a rare occasion that restaurant managers do that anymore and it was very much appreciated. I would totally recommend this restaurant!! Job well done!

The restaurant itself was good for lunch. That said, when we arrived, the person at the hostess stand (when they were even there) never looked up to acknowledge anyone's presence - ever. I'm assuming there was an issue b/c the two people kept talking between themselves and everyone was just standing there wondering what to do. I don't mean for a minute or two, but for 5 minutes no one said anything to us. We had to interrupt and ask and then they said our table wasn't ready so we waited another 20 minutes. After that everything went well. But good grief - a simple "we'll be with you as soon as possible" goes a long way vs me wondering if we are invisible (suffice it to say that other people saw us so I'll assume we weren't). And they were that way with everyone.

We went to this restaurant because we had been to another one from the same owner (Sweet Basil) also amazing. In both restaurants we just walked in and dined at the bar, which was good anyway. Better make reservation up front if you prefer a table.

Excellent food and service. My favorite restaurant in Vail and the surrounding area. The Pimento Cheese is outstanding, I crave it.

We went here based on a (great) recommendation from our hotel (Gravity Haus) concierge. Sits facing the river - great ambiance. Awesome staff with cool "uniforms" (just go, so you can see them for yourself). Menu was varied, great beer & alcohol selection and I have to put in a plug for the bone marrow (that of which I've never had before eating there). Can I just say "WOW!" ? SO glad that we went!

We were able to get a reservation here while in Vail and we were not disappointed. The food and service were top notch. We started with the Mushroom Flatbread which was excellent. We split the Sea Bass and it was still plentiful. We lingered with dessert and cappuccino. Altogether a delightful experience. I have to commend our Server who was attentive without "hovering". Looking forward to another visit next year. Mountain Standard proves to be "competition" for its "sister" upstairs. I personally switched allegiance a couple of years ago!!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service. Highly recommend stopping here while in Vail.
Mountain Standard does not ever disappoint. The menu rotates each season and uses in season fresh ingredients. We love this place so much that we plan to eat here multiple times during our Vail visit. I’m still thinking about the trout with the miso mushrooms from the summer menu. Highly recommend ordering an appetizer and a dessert to share, you will not be disappointed.

The staff was so friendly and the food was excellent. The pimento cheese spread was great and the size of the short rib was incredible. We were visiting from Connecticut and would eat here again if we return.

This is a very good restaurant with fantastic plate offering and the service that was provided to us by Nick was great!! Thanks a lot for this wonderful experience! Had the Trout and it was amazing.

This is hands down our favorite restaurant in Vail. It was our forth time dining here and it still exceeded expectations. The food is creative, unique and delicious. Its obvious the chef is very talented. They have a good and fair priced kids menu too. Our server was excellent. The staff is friendly and not pretentious. You must have a reservation and getting one is tricky but you’ll be glad you did.
