Disappointing
Walked in into the restaurant and it was very hot and humid, after several minutes we told the waitress that it felt like A/C was off. She assured us it was not- dismissed us-but would relate to manager. Five to 10 minutes later manager came by and told us breaker had tripped and the AC was now working again. We were amazed that management hadn’t noticed, as it was very uncomfortable for 15-20 min + For an upscale restaurant it is hard to accept or comprehend. We ordered 2 cold dishes one hot dish and some rolls. The yellowtail was small but ok, the octopus was tough, -undercooked-. The shrimp was soft -overcooked-. And the yellowtaill scallion rolls were average, with poor presentation. Food was 3/10. Very disappointed. The waiter was nice, but the service was bad, slow and inattentive. (She would disappear for a good Length of time, had to ask for water refills and had to ask twice to get a beer) We have been lucky to eat in many good restaurants in the US and abroad and I can easily say this experience is ranks as the worst value proposition by far( what you get for what you pay). We wanted to talk to the manager as we left but couldn’t see him and felt like wouldn’t even care. If you want mediocre setting, where management doesn’t realize A/C is off, mediocre food and mediocre service for top dollar, this is your place. For me, is a 2 out of 10.
Be the first to Reply4 Star Sushi / 3 Star Value
I had heard of this restaurant in other locations in the US. When Nobu came to Houston, I had avoided going because of the reputation of rather steep pricing. I’m not opposed to spending extravagantly on a dining experience. I’ve been known to spend stupid money in restaurants like Le Taillevent, Daniel, Enoteca Pinchiorri, Le Comptoir Robuchon, etc. However, although the post-covid world has left the whole restaurant industry reeling and inflation has skyrocketed the price of seafood, Nobu set a new bar for overpricing their dining experience. Their staff was extremely knowledgeable about the Menu du jour, but very mechanical in their presentation. We had a 7-top and chose the Feed-Me option and was served family style. The only alcohol we consumed were two bottles of Sake. We were served 8 courses consisting of very, very thin slices of wonderful fish, mollusk, crustaceans and wagu beef accompanied by outstanding sauces and marinades. The presentation on the plates were worthy of a Michelin Star. The staff’s level of training and enthusiasm was not. In my opinion (especially when hosting a dinner), $282.00 per head for ultra small, artistic portions is not a good value unless it is supported by a stellar performance by the staff. I gave this restaurant 4 stars on the quality of food and the kitchen’s imagination. This was as advertised in any word of mouth promotion that I’ve heard. Unfortunately, so was the reputation for being overpriced.

My wife eats only crude stuff, and myself only cooked items. We both tremendously enjoyed our food, specially the king crab tempura, the small cubes of fried rice. My wife loved her yellowtail jalapeño, all with some cold pinot grigio, ending with strawberry semifredo. The whole experience was made very special with the extremely good service of our waiter ALEXA, very professional, very knowledgeable about the menu.

Excellent place with amazing food and great service, highly recommended. The miso black cod and dumplings were superb.
Be the first to ReplyWould've been 5 Stars, IF the AC worked!!
Would've been 5 stars except it was SO HOT in there, I asked a couple of NOBU employees what was going on with the AC, they didnt know. The wait staff was fantastic, our waiter gave us great recommendations! The food is expensive, but fantastic. Hey NOBU management, fix the AC!! If I am going to spend $400 for dinner, I dont want to sweat while eating. Thank you, we'll be back.

My husband and I went to Nobu for dinner. The service was great and the food delicious.
The best thing for me was the spicy tuna and the dessert, the blueberry dessert is amazing.

1. I was in Houston on business and to treat my team, we came to Nobu.
The hostess was neither polite nor inviting, informed us there are no tables available, and dismissed us. (Think Pretty Woman in the scene when she enters the shop to buy new clothes).
The hostess and her non-memborable colleague didn't even offer the bar as an alternative dining option.
This was a first, since usually Nobu staff are top notch and having dined at almost every Nobu from London to Malibu, I just assumed it's a staffing issue per the current climate, and we just seated ourselves at a bar table near the bar. I wasn't going to let her ruin our dinner.
2. We had an amazing meal, per usual at Nobu.. and left our server over a 20% tip because she was excellent. We were in and out fast, so we spent a decent amount for a quick bite. Everyone was happy.
Why the 1 star?
I only used my card here during my entire trip.. and the next day my credit card started being illegally charged all over Houston. I had to cancel my credit card, and now will have to cancel the multitude of Autopays that it's connected to. Such a hassle!
Management, please background check your staff. This meal wasn't worth me now having to contact 50,60,100 or however many autopay businesses I'm connected to, in order to cancel the credit card and connect my new credit card.
PS. I tried calling Nobu several times to discuss this prior to posting this review, but no one answers the phone.
Fancy I say!
My wife has always wanted to visit a Nobu restaurant and we were in Houston so it was only right.
I was a bit stressed about the dress code as I am not a huge fan of dressing up, but I made it work.
Our waitress was amazing. I need to do a better job of name dropping great waiters/waitresses. She was very informative, humorous, and helpful as it relates to our dinner decisions.
As my photos show, we had a bit of everything! Great dishes! We both love sushi so that was necessary. Everything was prepared as described and plated nicely. I couldn't get enough so I felt like we just kept ordering different things to try (make sure you have your coins together because it will cost ya).
We both also have a couple drinks. FYI they make a mean Old Fashioned.
If I had any complaints they would be some of the patrons TOTALLY dressed down after I stressed over what to wear (petty but true).
I would also advise you to look at the menu before visiting as there is not a ton of versatility as this is more of a specialized restaurant.
Great atmosphere for conversation, a romantic night out, quality food and drink. Excellent choice by my wife.
Enjoy and happy travels!
Not bad, just not memorable for the price
We have eaten sushi all over Houston from fusion, to traditional, to mom and pop, to upscale. There are places we would revisit. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. Pros: Wait staff was great, they were knowledgeable about dietary restrictions, and the sashimi was delicious. Cons: the sashimi was overpriced. While the maki were tasty, they were extremely repetitive. We ordered three and stopped because of this. The green tea was watery. The matcha was weak. The eggplant miso - the eggplant was well prepared, but the taste profile was disappointing. The dessert bento - the flourless cake was fluffy but tasteless. We usually order a large variety of sushi, but we stopped because nothing inspired us on the menu.
Again, quality of ingredients and the staff were great. But we left feeling full, but less than satisfied, which we never do on our sushi outings. For the price tag, we don't see ourselves going back.
Don’t even think about it
This place is only getting two stars because of the quality of food. The wait staff is slow and careless. The management is arrogant and rude. Take their time and don’t care about customer service. I’ve been multiple times and each time my dood took at least and hour for a couple d sushi rolls at 25-50 percent capacity. The waitress I had last time was extremely rude and had the biggest attitude I’ve ever encountered and for no reason. They treat you like you’re not good enough to walk in and eat among them. Truly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, have been there. And I’ve eaten a hundreds of places across 26 countries. Don’t come here.
