Nobu Malibu Reviews from The Last Year
Exceptional outstanding quality, well done service and
Exceptional outstanding quality, well done service and absolutely fantastic customer service with a great ambiance. The food was so fresh as always, delicious, delinquent, and definitely piece of art. Highly recommended
Came here years later and the food has improved.
The monkfish pate and sushi is delicious! Still pretty expensive but the service is very high end with a relaxed view. Ate here a few times but getting a reservation is reliable.

The food, the views, the vibes were all amazing (of course)
The food, the views, the vibes were all amazing (of course) but what stood out for us was the service. Our server Kardell was absolutely fabulous - he was on point with his suggestions and curated an entire 9-courses for us. Kardell was also friendly, warm and very attentive even though he was very busy as the restaurant was packed. We felt lucky to be seated right by the ocean so our view of the ocean was top notch. Love our dinner experience here!

i will never forget my experience of ordering an old
i will never forget my experience of ordering an old fashioned (after having a manhattan) and being asked by the waiter if i know i'm ordering something different. "you know that's not the same drink, right?" my spidey senses tell me that the same question wouldn't have been asked to a man. overall though, not worth the hype. their speciality cocktails are nice.
worst experience ever coming here.
I called and made reservations and SPECIFICALLY requested for an outside table with the view for my birthday lunch. They mentioned to me that it was something they could accommodate me and they would include that request on the notes. I was so excited to take pictures with my son and my husband and spend a really nice lunch and one of the main reasons I wanted to come here. As we arrived the hostess mentioned to us they only have inside tables available Not the outside table as I requested. They said the outside tables are requested MONTHS in advance and they don't have any tables available. I said the only reason I made reservations at this restaurant was because of the outside table and because when I called they said they would accommodate me otherwise I would've made reservations somewhere else. I was told specially I would be accomadaded for the outside table and the host was really rude and said there's nothing they can do about it and could only give us the inside table. At this point I was furious! And left I had no choice but but to ear the table inside. As we sat down I tried my best to enjoy my time with my son and husband and for the FIRST TIME HERE and for the price I was expecting the food to be amazing. We ordered the wary tacos and they were cold. The lobster cheese tasted super fishy and salty. overall I would say this place is OVERRATED! for the service and food and how the lie to you about the outside seated I wouldn't recommend this place or come here again. I would rather spend my money somewhere else with a view of the ocean. Plus as we were eating throughout our lunch we noticed empty tables by the ocean view the whole time we were there.
Food, Service, ambience was great! The yellowtail Sashimi
Food, Service, ambience was great! The yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeño was phenomenal! Everything we ate was the best of the best! The best birthday dinner I've ever had so far.
Really overpriced food for what you get.
Service is meh. Sushi was fantastic though. Views of the ocean are very nice, so nice ambience. But so many other great Japanese restaurants to support in LA area.
Experience the best
Expensive but half the cost is experiential, and 100% worth it. Craft cocktails with crashing waves and freshest seafood… no wonder it sells out. Miso Cod a MUST! Reservations are definitely not impossible. You just need to call 30 days out exactly at 10 AM West Coast time, and Stay patient.
Excellent Restaurant
Restaurant with excellent location. Very well prepared food. One of the best Nobu I've ever had dinner at. Attentive and friendly service, although too quick to remove everything from the table. The reservation system does not work. Difficult to get a table.
Expectations
"Expectation is the root of all heartache" is a quote I've learned the hard way when it comes to trying restaurants like Nobu Malibu.... and in other areas of life but I'm not tryna trauma dump on here. The Carbones and the Peter Lugers of the world let me down far more often than not, as I'm expecting to be BLOWN away by them. I think it's a mix of my expectations being near impossible to meet, and these businesses know that people will come just off of the hype alone, so it's hard to stay locked in. For context, my girlfriend was coming to LA for the first time and her one and only request was to go to Nobu Malibu, even quoting the Drake line "Eatin crab out in Malibu at Nobuuuuuu" smh. After calling and trying to make a res 24 days in advance, we were put on the waitlist. By the time our trip came around, I was hinting to pookie that God may just not want us to go…. but she said we could go right when it opens and could probably get a seat at the bar. I understood the low probability of this, but thought a spiritual drive up to Malibu would be worth it anyways. Plus, you try telling pookie no. Pookie gets what pookie wants. After the beautiful 58 minute drive from Manhattan Beach filled with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and BlueBucksClan spilling out my Toyota Rav4 speakers, we arrived at the promised land. The valet parks my 2017 Rav4 between a matte G-Wagon and a big body Range, and we walk through the beautiful little courtyard lounge area with the Pacific Ocean maybe 20 feet from us to get to the entrance. We get in at 11:59am (it opens at noon), and it is already PACKED. I was like baby no way we gettin a seat ahahaha...I was ready to just grab an early drink and enjoy the elite ambiance and head up to Point Dume for a meal. We got to the host stand and I put on my best puppy dog eyes, and the host says a table may open up, but we can sit at the bar as there is a full menu. She points over my right shoulder to the bar, and it is completely empty lol. Pookie was right. Before we could even order a drink, the hostess comes up to us and says a table opened up as someone canceled a res. WE UP! I don't even really need to say this, but this ambiance is everything it is cracked up to be. Whatever you're thinking in your head, it's even better. Waves crashing, sun shining. An absolute spiritual experience. We were buzzin that we got in, so we ordered a FEAST: Edamame & Shishito Peppers to start (do both I promise), Spicy Yellowtail Jalapeño, Crispy Rice w Spicy Tuna, Wagyu Tacos, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Black Miso Cod, Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Baked Crab Roll. The quality of food at Nobu is just on a whole different level. It really is artistry what they are doing in here. Every bite we would look at each other like DAMN THIS IS HITTIN. Our favorites were the Yellowtail Jalapeño, Crispy Rice, and Black Cod. Those 3 dishes are like the Heatles. Yellowtail Jalapeño is LeBron though. I need to shout out my man Brett, our server. He was delivering the type of service you would expect here. Engaging, funny, and knows the menu like the back of his hand. Just one of those dudes who is happy to be alive and those kinds of people are infectious. Yeah, it's expensive. A special occasion only type beat. Being well north of $400 after a couple drinks each, my pockets were on featherweight. However, it was an experience we will talk about for years to come...and that's exactly what I was paying for. The experience. It is something we will always have together. To me, life is all about stacking these types of experiences with the people that you love and the people that love you. You can't take it with you. So yeah, it was easily worth it. In closing, I can't help but equate Nobu Malibu to LeBron James. The weight of the world on his shoulders, dubbed "The next Michael Jordan" and "The Chosen One" at age 16 comes with a level of expectation that could only set him up to fail. Yet, he still blew them out of the water. LeNobu. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
Amazing views !!
Came for my birthday & the entire experience was amazing. All the staff members were so attentive & the food was delicious. Getting a reservation during daylight hours which has the best view of the ocean was difficult.
The place to go if you don’t want to talk to your company!
I can’t remember the last time I was this uncomfortable….the tables were crammed in so close together. The worst part was the noise: I could not carry on a conversation with the person sitting next to me. The people at the next table were also yelling at each other ( just to be heard - not in anger) so their conversation was overpowering. Although the staff was courteous, it must have been difficult to have patrons screaming orders just to be understood. Our waiter actually took only five of our six orders ( we had to find him again to remind him that there was a forgotten order!). The food came in some random order. My husband, a fast eater, was served first, and had finished before anyone else had eaten! My daughter-in-law got her food after the entire table was finished! Plates were removed quickly….too quickly, and bussers were constantly wiping off the table (this was annoying). The food, itself, was unremarkable.
Incredible discovery
I enjoyed this delicious meal. The dishes were all tastier than the others. What a treat ! Upon release, I became number one fan of a very promising new rock band from Lyon, France called borderline. They did an amazing concert next to the beach. I recommend following them on Instagram at Borderline_of
Mediocre Sushi
We went to Nobu for their famous Sushi. We had Sushi a la carte. The restaurant was beautiful. But the sushi was mediocre. We are sushi lovers and had amazing sushi in many cities. We live in Ohio and go out for sushi regularly. The Albacore was fresh and delicious. Uni was also tasty. Otherwise, salmon & Yellowtail , sweet shrimp were ok. At the recommendation of the server, tried Kampachi and Kinmedai which were terrible. Will not go back for sushi . Maybe their other hot dishes are better .
They don’t want your business
Extremely rude hostess at reception. She was condescending and also lied. Despite reservation two weeks earlier. Nobu is overrated. There are many better places to dine in Malibu.
Unbelievable food, high price, but worth it
Our dinner was unbelievable with a very original take on Japanese and Sushi dishes. We went with a large group and the staff was able to portion our selections so all 10 people had a taste. The bill came to $550.00 a couple with two drinks per person, so if you don't have any alcohol it would be about $100.00 cheaper.
Disappointed
I go to Nobu Malibu a few times a year, usually for business. This time I went and took my best friend and her kids there and unfortunately, what a regret. Every drink we ordered took 40 minutes to arrive. By the time we ordered and paid the tip, we were STILL waiting for the food. I will never make the mistake of paying a tip before we finish dinner but I wanted to make sure I paid for my friend and took care of the bill before her. Our server was Dillion and though he started out nice, it ended up being a nightmare. The last thing we ordered after the medley of food, was salmon sushi with truffle oil. It was delivered without the truffle oil, and I mentioned it and sent it back. 20 minutes later, our waiter, Dillion, came and apologized for making the mistake and said that he was sorry. Then he asked for $5 more for the truffle oil!!! At Nobu?! After I gave him a 25% tip. Wow. Ok, I said, no problem and gave him a $20 dollar bill. Ten minutes later he comes back and asks if I want change!!! He says that he is going to have to re-open the bill if I want change! Yes, I said, after everything that has happened, I do not want to give him a 300% tip on the truffle oil sand yes, I do want change. Then the manager comes, Troy, and gives me my $20 and says that he is going to comp me the $5 truffle oil charge. Yes, these are first world problems. In fact, these are the top 1% of first world problems. But this still ruined the evening and I am still disappointed. I was so looking forward to enjoying the evening on a special occasion.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
