Nougatine at Jean-Georges New York Reviews from The Last Year
Culinary Paradise
What an incredible culinary gem! Each dish is a masterpiece, carefully crafted to showcase the incredible genius of the chefs. Truly, a feast for your taste buds. And let's not forget the impeccable service. The staff at Nougatine are consummate professionals, attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring that every need is met with grace and efficiency. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
I had a good overall experience at Nougatine.
I would have normally rated this overall as 4 stars but I am adding one star back for the service. The service was really top notch and we found them to be extremely kind. It was one of those NYC days where something was up and we kept getting redirected all over the city by traffic cops and we were late for our reservation. We called them and informed them and they were very kind about it. It took us an extra 15 mins after I was dropped off for my husband to get to the parking garage 3 blocks away. They never rushed us. I am very grateful for their service. It was my husband's birthday and they ensured we had a good experience despite the traffic curveballs. In terms of the food, it started off very well. The bread they serve is warm and delicious. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The amuse bouche is very flavorful. It is a croquette served with truffle sauce. Perfect way to start the meal. For appetizers we got the kale salad and calamari. We really enjoyed both and can definitely recommend them. The main course is where things didn't go too well. I ordered the lobster burger. Maybe it was the wrong choice. It was a bit greasy and didn't deliver on the promise of the chili aioli. My husband got the Parmesan crusted chicken which he found to be a bit on the saltier side. Both were good, just not mind blowing. We were right back on track with the dessert. We got the butterscotch pudding. It was light and airy and not overly sweet. It is served with shortbread biscuits. We really enjoyed it. I got a little pot of chamomile tea with it. Whatever tea brand they are using is excellent. The ambiance was nice. It is far more casual than Jean Georges. It had a little bar area and small tables around. We were close to the windows so that was nice. I appreciate that they left a bottle of water on the table at all times.
Jean George does it again! This more "casual" yet elegant
Jean George does it again! This more "casual" yet elegant restaurant offers an extensive menu with a variety of options. My friend and I selected the following items: -Tuna Tartare -Warm Shrimp Salad (one of the BEST salads of my life!) -Beet Salad -Sea Bass (sorry forgot to take pic) -Lamb Chops (sorry forgot to take pic) -Passionfruit Souffle -Warm Chocolate Cake with vanilla ice cream Everything was exceptional (Beet Salad was the usual fare) and so delicious! If in NYC I would eat here again in a heartbeat! Attentive service, lovely ambiance and exceptional food!
Nougatine Overall, very disappointed with the service.
Many missteps in a restaurant run by Jean Georges, which is known for its service. Errors: (1) Given menus, then when we selected items from the brunch menu, were told that we couldn't order brunch. This was 12:15pm on a Sunday. I'm sorry, what? The server checked and came back and said we had the wrong menus but we could order the brunch items. (2) Missing utensils. One in our party ordered soup for his starter. It was brought with no spoon. We had to track down another server to ask for a spoon to be brought to the table. (3) Entree brought to the table while our first course was being eaten. One of our party of 4 had a starter. All entrees were brought to the table at once even as the one person was still finishing his soup. We had to tell the server to bring back the entree for the one person. We shouldn't have to say this. (4) Servers and Customers bumping into our chairs. One in our party was bumped 4 times by servers and never once did the server acknowledge or apologize.
I was pretty disappointed in this restaurant.
While service was impeccable, the food did disappoint. There are so many other restaurants in the city that are more affordable and better tasting than Nougatine. Beautiful interior and is a cute fancy date night spot, but the food was not as good.
Brilliant Food.
Lousy Service. It pains me to write this. The food at Nougatine is extraordinary. You literally can't go wrong with any choice on the menu of this casual Jean-George's establishment, and I've tried just about everything. HOWEVER the front of the house is an absolute disaster. My last 3 visits have been met with absent waiters and diffident managers resulting in slow service, forgotten items and checks only upon physically getting up and finding someone I can beg to pay. It's a sad experience given the overall quality of the meal.
My friend and I visited Nougatine this past week for dinner
My friend and I visited Nougatine this past week for dinner and it did not disappoint! Although on the pricier side, it lives up to the reputation one expects from a Jean-Georges restaurant. Food We got the following items for the evening: * Table side bread with butter and salt * Complimentary amuse bouche: croquet with black truffle sauce * Egg toast with Caviar and herbs * Tuna tartare * Diver scallop trompetti pasta * Beef tenderloin * Sides: roasted mushrooms * Citrus pavlova * Complimentary hazelnut "kit kat" bars First up was the freshly baked bread and croquet with black truffle sauce. The bread had a slightly crunchy crust with a soft, fluffy interior that was served warm. The butter complimented the warm bread perfectly adding richness to the bread with every bite. The croquet with black truffle sauce was delicious. Lightly fried, crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. It was a massive flavor ball that had a strong taste yet not overwhelming truffle scent. Next were the appetizers. The egg toast with caviar was decadent. Although small and easily devoured in 3 bites, it gives you a view into elegant and elevated cuisine. The flavors were sharp yet mellow. The crispy toast provided a strong base for the salty and smooth caviar and thick yet mellow egg yolks. This was a dish of opulence. The tuna tartare was exquisite. Chopped raw tuna was served on a bed of avocado mash, garnished with radish, and finished with a ginger sauce. With each bite, you can taste the quality of the ingredients - the tuna and avocado was smooth and light and the ginger sauce was packed with umami, providing a euphoric feeling to each bite. For entrees, we had the scallop pasta and beef tenderloin. The scallop pasta was cooked to perfection. The trompetti pasta was al dente and the scallops were soft and tender. The garlic butter was not too heavy and accentuated the scallops in the dish. The beef tenderloin was cooked by a master chef who understands beef. It was tender to the touch. Served on a bed of smooth parsnips, roasted brussels sprouts and finished with a miso mustard sauce. My friend thought that the miso sauce was a little too salty. However, the beef tenderloin itself was fantastic on its own with a little bit of salt and paired very well with the smooth parsnips that had a similar flavor profile to briyani. It was an unexpected surprise but one that gives a great example of what fine dining is all about. For dessert we had the citrus pavlova. This was the first time I had pavlova and I was amazed. The pavlova had a crust that once broken through uncovered a marshmallow center. The lightly sweetened pavlova was paired with a citrus sorbet that was fresh and fruity. It was a great way to have my first pavlova experience. The hazelnut "kit kat" bars capped off a perfect night by ending it with a nutty and sweet finish to our dinner. Side note, we got the roasted mushrooms as a side. Mushrooms were lightly seasoned and roasted well. It made a decent side dish. Service The service was very good as one would expect from a self-respecting establishment. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with smiles from the front of the house, had our coats taken to be put in coat check and we were immediately seated. Our servers were attentive and made sure that we had an enjoyable experience. No complaints whatsoever. Ambiance The restaurant was on the smaller side and it was packed on a Friday night. We found our seats comfortable and the table we were seated was perfectly sized for two diners. The restaurant is located right by Columbus circle so you had a great view of the central park (albeit it was already dark) and the tall skyscrapers surrounding Columbus circle. The restaurant itself has a very clean and contemporary design, one that truly em.bodies a modern and chic dining experience.
Outstanding service, excellent good , beautiful setting but inflated priced. Here you get what you paid for great food.
I had not been here for several years but found the service absolutely perfect from the wait through the drink services yo the care in which sll members worked together to make it special . Their foie gras preparation was awesome snd our butterscotch pudding were off the charts with other dishes well made but not as fabulous. We came before the opera which we now frequent after several years of pandemic s as bd will make this our go to spot pre curtain. Highly recommend gur a special occasion
Don't get old in New York and expect to be treated well by
Don't get old in New York and expect to be treated well by celebrity chef restaurants. Over the years, I had eaten at several Jean-George restaurants with no issues. However, my wife and I, in our 70s, were given the worst table by the noisy wait station at Nougatine. The food was so-so and a little tired. In fact, she sent one dish back. But being placed in Siberia is a no no. Stay away unless you are pumping iron!
Returned for dinner years later and I would say it holds up.
Easily made a reservation for my boyfriend and I on a weekend. We tried: + Tuna tartare + Foie gras + Roasted beef tenderloin + Pomme puree + Hibiscus poached pear dessert + Citrus pavlova dessert The foie gras was possibly the best I've ever had - definitely get that. Tartare was also perfect as always. Beef tenderloin and pavlova were other standouts. Great complimentary bread basket, too!
came here for restaurant week and it was impeccable.
!! literally the best meal i've had in suuuch a long time, i wouldn't change a thing about the food. all of it was so perfectly balanced in flavor, texture, and portion size. the wine, i would've probably opted for something else. the service was fine, it is a fancy place! a lot of ppl sitting in sweats at the bar though hahaha so i feel like it also can be casual (i went on a weekday though).
The dining experience was classic elegance.
The staff was accommodating and attentive. The food (chef's kiss) full of flavor and amazing. We liked the open kitchen concept where we could see the chef work his magic.
Not worth the price.
We were very excited to go to this restaurant. It was a disappointment. We were not ignored by the waiters. My sister did not drink her bloody Mary or eat her kale salad because they were inedible and undrinkable. I had to point out to the waiter that the kale salad basically untouched. No one asked or cared if we enjoyed the food. My mother lived her shrimp salad.
Salty
Food was so salty we could barely eat it. Unacceptable for the prices. Table was so small for 3 people, had barely any room. Will definitely not go back again.
TERRIBLE SERVICE, NEEDS A REFRESH AND NEW MANAGEMENT
Terrible experience at a venue we have been to 50+ times. I was wearing shorts, and when i arrived at the host stand, they told me shorts were not permitted inside, but we would be welcome on patio. We were perfectly fine with that. Shortly thereafter on my way to the men's room, i noticed a man sitting in the window seats indoor wearing shorts. I noted this to the host, and he was surprised, and said they hadnt noticed, and this was an oversight. On my way back from men's room, i noticed yet another guest indoor with shorts. i pointed this out again, they started hemming and hawing and making terrible excuses. they apologized, invited us indoors, said it was an oversight, would give us free desserts. i said we didnt want to move, but OK on the desserts. and then they charged us for the desserts! I didnt even want to dispute at that time, paid the bill, and told them on the way out. this place has gone downhill in service, and the menu hasnt changed in ten years. plus it seems the refuge for the well heeled MAGA supporters visiting NYC. so all sorts of reason to avoid.
Relaxing and elegant
It was a great experience. We had the tasting menu and it was delicious and varied. The egg toast and sea bass were the highlights, but we enjoyed it all with a German wine selection from their large cellar. The staff was very friendly and attentive.
Far below expectations
Nougatine was like the unwanted step child of Jean Georges. I didn't realize that Nougatine was in the bar area of the actual Jean Georges restaurant. Thus, the experience is really like eating in the bar than in a restaurant. There were paper placemats like you would have at a cheap restaurant. We had two salads -- the tomato salad and burrata, both of which had too much acid. Our mains were the lobster tail and the fish, both of which were fine, but not exceptional -- the fish needed salt. The knife was so dull that it was extremely difficult to cut through the lobster tail. We opted to skip dessert. As others noted, the restaurant is in the Trump hotel, which I hadn't realized when booking. Also, while the website and reservation notes that the dress code is "business casual," everyone had people with tennis shoes in their party, and one table had diners in tshirts and shorts. It's very casual, as a bar would be. This was far from the experience I had anticipated.
Uncomfortable seating arrangement
The food and service were good, 4 stars. However, this is already second time at Nougatine when my request at being seated at the quiet window area is being ignored. Instead five of us where seated near the kitchen area with a slew of waiters constantly moving back and forth behind my chair, which made me feel very uneasy and wondering at what if somebody will bump into my chair. I made my reservation in advance, with a seating notice. I believe that they could have called me and warn me that my request would not be met. I would simply booked some other place instead.
Rushed service, food quality does not match reputation
Would not eat here again. We were rushed from the moment we sat down, virtually forced to order and plates were whisked away before we even put down our utensils. Dinner for 5, three courses each, in one hour and forty five minutes. Quite unusual for fine dining. And, to top it all off the food was mediocre. Watermelon salad was massively over salted on the top layer, the bottom layers were flavorless. The squash pasta was, despite being describe by the waiter as "spicy", bland. The star of the show was the sole, with it's delicious sauce and potato/onion side. The gazpacho and the tuna tartare were serviceable, but far below expectations for a restaurant with this high of reputation. We decided to skip dessert and go elsewhere to finish our evening.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
