Oceans New York Reviews from The Last Year
Where do I start? This place is utterly PHENOMENAL! I will
Where do I start? This place is utterly PHENOMENAL! I will say that this place was probably the best place we ate while in New York (which is saying a lot because there's so much good food). It was such a nice space with beautiful seating and adequate lighting where we felt like we had enough space but it also felt intimate. Everyone was so very kind, we really enjoyed our server and our wonderful interaction with the manager! Don't stop doing what you guys are doing! Thank you for treating us so well!
Set expectations right and you will be ok
I dined at Oceans several times in the past, most recently, excluding yday's visit, a couple of years ago. It was never cheap, but it was always reliably very good. Now, while the prices continued to drift up (as is the case anywhere) the quality went down. It is not bad and some dishes are better than others, but it is just not worth the price anymore. For example, bok choy in my black cod dish was totally overdone and the broth, which I would guess was probably shirodashi based, was very bland and unexciting. The place itself is still nice, so if you are looking for a pretty and spacious setting with acceptable quality of food, then you won't be disappointed as long as you don't expect excellence.
Definitely go!
A beautiful dining too, a relaxong and very delicious meal! Three couples, celebrating a birthday in a lovely semi-private dining room. Excellent service ( w/ one small blip~ had bread and butter plates/knives, had to ask for bread after apps were served and with an apology the delicious homemade focaccia appeared quickly with wonderful olive oil and butter in a flash!). Our sommelier made great recommendations and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Apps at the table included wonderful sushi rolls, Union Square farmers mkt. salad~ so fresh, tasty (and huge!), and yummy. cream of mushroom soup. We loved them all as well as the entrees that followed. Dinners included melt-in-your-mouth short ribs , and perfectly prepared lobster roll, Farro Island salmon and black cod. MY very favorite~ excellent seasonal sautéed soft shell crabs …I all but licked the plate clean! Truffle fries, an afterthought, quickly disappeared. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Our desserts included Banoffee pie ( think banana cream with a toffee twist), warm donuts with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauce, and cheesecake with grilled pineapple and passion fruit sorbet…. Excellent, sampled by all and the cheesecake was our grp. favorite. Highly recommend Oceans!
I have been frequenting this place and sitting at the bar
I have been frequenting this place and sitting at the bar for about a year now. I usually just have a drink, which is usually good. I must say, the bar is great people watching - as it's quite a busy place. And I enjoy just seeing the hustle and bustle of this place. However, I don't come very often, but when I do, it's very rare that I will find a bartender who is nice and by that I mean, smiling or welcoming of you. The hosts at the front are usually very nice however. Yesterday, I had one bartender who for the first time actually smiled. He was pleasant and it made me happy to be there. That's kind of the reason I don't go often, cause it just feels very cold in there at times. Then the real shocker was that one of the floor hosts (he is a very tall gentleman who seems to monitor the entire restaurant) actually thanked me and said goodbye when I was leaving. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but it was really nice. I kind of was taken aback, a little speechless actually, cause I never encounter nice people there, except the hosts by the door. As I was leaving, I wanted to thank him for being so kind, but he was moving around a lot. I know we all can get consumed by our work at times, but I hope folks in there can be a little nicer.
Great restaurant week meal.
I had a three course meal with the crab cake and the crab cake was awesome and full of crab. The drinks were also really good and the service was amazing and friendly. They have a cool and vibrant bar / dining are in the back
Wonderful Seafood near Union Square
Wonderful high-end seafood and sushi restaurant, with a great wine list. The layout, atmosphere and service are all great. The food even better! We shared a Seafood tower as an appetizer and then had Entrees (to include the Sole and the Hawaiian Walu). Everything was perfect. A lovely evening and we'll return.
Awesome food and service! We came here for my bf's birthday
Awesome food and service! We came here for my bf's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The wholefish sashimi was absolutely delicious. Wild mushroom soup is also amazing, coming from a mushroom soup lover. Only thing we didn't like as much was the black cod, it was a bit too sweet and under salted. Sagaponack has a similar cod dish but theirs is a bit more delicate. Our waiter was absolutely amazing as well! I love the ambiance of the place. Really great experience overall:)

Came in for a later dinner post show at Titanique nearby which is a must see! And Oceans is a must visit! Jorge our server was awesome! He made it a super special evening. Loved the cocktails so much. The sushi was super fresh and tasty. Don't sleep on the little gem Caesar. Each bite was super flavorful. And the blueberry cheesecake was the supreme meal ender. I can't wait to go back! Top notch visit start to finish.
Oceans Restaurant lists itself as a fine dining, locally
Oceans Restaurant lists itself as a fine dining, locally and globally inspired seafood restaurant. It is located on prestigious Park Avenue around the corner from Union Square in New York City. You enter a beautiful restaurant with white linen service and 'Oceans' monogramed napkins. Everything feels like quality and sets high expectations. We were greeted by 3 very friendly hosts at the door who quickly showed us to our seat. It was 6pm on a Sunday but there were not many people in the restaurant. Our server greeted us quickly and was kind enough to explain the specials of the evening, which sounded wonderful. There was a scallop appetizer with caviar that was piquing our interest. I am a martini drinker and I make no excuses about that. I do not drink them often but when I do, I am pretty meticulous about how they are made and more precisely about having 3 blue cheese olives in my dry Grey Goose Martini. Fine steak and seafood restaurants always have blue cheese olives, it is expected. This restaurant had none and seemed hardly apologetic about it at all. This may seem trivial to some but to me it is very important. My experience is that when a fine restaurant does not have blue cheese olives for a staple drink like a classic martini that likely I will wind up disappointed. We decided to order different drinks, I had an old fashion, which was average. The other drink was also nothing to get excited over. We decided to leave as the dinner experience was spoiled for us at that point. When you plan to spend a few hundred dollars on dinner you have certain expectations and as a frequent fine diner I have learned to pick up on certain clues and it's ok when you lose the good feeling you had when you go into a restaurant to leave for somewhere else to cut your losses. I will be rating this restaurant based on the drinks we did order, which were 3-star at best.

Ate here with my family and it was great! The inside has a cozy and elegant ambiance with a coat check service at the front. The staff were incredibly attentive and made it so easy for me to eat with my dairy allergy. The food was flavorful without being over seasoned and there were plenty of wonderful options. My whole family left happy and satisfied. I look forward to returning on my next visit!

I walked in and sat at the bar on my way home from work a couple nights ago. The service was great and the drinks were unique and tasty. I'd definitely go back for cocktails. However, I had sushi for dinner and this was pretty underwhelming...especially for the premium price. Next time I'll try something different but stop by for the cocktails.
The fresh sashimi was amazing.
The wine and cocktails were also lovely. Had a good time overall.
An excellent venue.
Superb food with an excellent menu. We went to celebrate a birthday and were treated with wonderful service by Jorge. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I was really excited to go to Oceans for the first time on
I was really excited to go to Oceans for the first time on Valentine's Day with my wife. We had some really high expectations seeing as they have a 4.6 on Yelp, but we ended up pretty disappointed by the end of the night. We had the Crab Cake, Tuna tartare, short rib, and surf & turf. The crab cake was pretty good, but was not super fresh. The tuna tartare w/ caviar, also had a distinct unfresh taste. Finally, we got our mains, and everything looked delicious, but the crab in the surf & turf was terrible, it tasted like they found it in the corner of a NYC bodega at 4am. It tasted so expired that I'm pretty sure some people must have gotten food poisoning. My stomach wasn't so happy this morning myself, and I only had 2 bites of that back-alley crab. The steak in the surf and turf and the short rib were delicious! Mashed potatoes, delicious! But man, how does a seafood restaurant strike out 3x on seafood!? The wait staff were super nice, the manager came over and had them remake the crab, but it was still the same expired crab they'd been using all night. They took off $25 from the check for the bad crab, but it was still a $400+ meal, and I can't say it was worth it. You would think that on Valentine's Day, they'd have some fresh seafood, but it seems like maybe a fridge had broken or something. I wish I could give them another chance because the ambiance is great and the staff are great, but when it comes to bad seafood sold at Michelin star prices, you really only get 1 shot.
Plastic in the Sushi
While there is a 300 mile island of plastic in the pacific ocean. There is also plastic in the sushi at Oceans. Would recommend going elsewhere for fish in the city. Picture of the clothes tag that was in my sushi roll is included below. Update: Spoke to Ocean's Vice President of operations about the piece of plastic in the sushi. Reportedly the chefs were given new chef coats and the tag "unfortunately" went from the jacket into the food. This raises two concerns: chefs who are allegedly able to do fine knife work can't competently cut off a label; and the second of which they are so negligent that they allowed the plastic from the tag to then mix into the food that they were serving. Overall a truly disgusting dining experience.
Worth it!
We celebrated a special occasion dining at Oceans and it was an amazing dinner. Nice decoration and vibe, tasty food and decently priced.
Top location
Three of us dined here. The location is stylish and the service is first class. The food is very tasty. Overall, highly recommended

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
