I have been frequenting this place and sitting at the bar
I have been frequenting this place and sitting at the bar for about a year now. I usually just have a drink, which is usually good. I must say, the bar is great people watching - as it's quite a busy place. And I enjoy just seeing the hustle and bustle of this place. However, I don't come very often, but when I do, it's very rare that I will find a bartender who is nice and by that I mean, smiling or welcoming of you. The hosts at the front are usually very nice however. Yesterday, I had one bartender who for the first time actually smiled. He was pleasant and it made me happy to be there. That's kind of the reason I don't go often, cause it just feels very cold in there at times. Then the real shocker was that one of the floor hosts (he is a very tall gentleman who seems to monitor the entire restaurant) actually thanked me and said goodbye when I was leaving. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but it was really nice. I kind of was taken aback, a little speechless actually, cause I never encounter nice people there, except the hosts by the door. As I was leaving, I wanted to thank him for being so kind, but he was moving around a lot. I know we all can get consumed by our work at times, but I hope folks in there can be a little nicer.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant week meal.
I had a three course meal with the crab cake and the crab cake was awesome and full of crab. The drinks were also really good and the service was amazing and friendly. They have a cool and vibrant bar / dining are in the back

Awesome food and service! We came here for my bf's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The wholefish sashimi was absolutely delicious. Wild mushroom soup is also amazing, coming from a mushroom soup lover. Only thing we didn't like as much was the black cod, it was a bit too sweet and under salted. Sagaponack has a similar cod dish but theirs is a bit more delicate. Our waiter was absolutely amazing as well! I love the ambiance of the place. Really great experience overall:)

Came in for a later dinner post show at Titanique nearby which is a must see! And Oceans is a must visit! Jorge our server was awesome! He made it a super special evening. Loved the cocktails so much. The sushi was super fresh and tasty. Don't sleep on the little gem Caesar. Each bite was super flavorful. And the blueberry cheesecake was the supreme meal ender. I can't wait to go back! Top notch visit start to finish.
Be the first to ReplyOceans Restaurant lists itself as a fine dining, locally
Oceans Restaurant lists itself as a fine dining, locally and globally inspired seafood restaurant. It is located on prestigious Park Avenue around the corner from Union Square in New York City. You enter a beautiful restaurant with white linen service and 'Oceans' monogramed napkins. Everything feels like quality and sets high expectations. We were greeted by 3 very friendly hosts at the door who quickly showed us to our seat. It was 6pm on a Sunday but there were not many people in the restaurant. Our server greeted us quickly and was kind enough to explain the specials of the evening, which sounded wonderful. There was a scallop appetizer with caviar that was piquing our interest. I am a martini drinker and I make no excuses about that. I do not drink them often but when I do, I am pretty meticulous about how they are made and more precisely about having 3 blue cheese olives in my dry Grey Goose Martini. Fine steak and seafood restaurants always have blue cheese olives, it is expected. This restaurant had none and seemed hardly apologetic about it at all. This may seem trivial to some but to me it is very important. My experience is that when a fine restaurant does not have blue cheese olives for a staple drink like a classic martini that likely I will wind up disappointed. We decided to order different drinks, I had an old fashion, which was average. The other drink was also nothing to get excited over. We decided to leave as the dinner experience was spoiled for us at that point. When you plan to spend a few hundred dollars on dinner you have certain expectations and as a frequent fine diner I have learned to pick up on certain clues and it's ok when you lose the good feeling you had when you go into a restaurant to leave for somewhere else to cut your losses. I will be rating this restaurant based on the drinks we did order, which were 3-star at best.

Ate here with my family and it was great! The inside has a cozy and elegant ambiance with a coat check service at the front. The staff were incredibly attentive and made it so easy for me to eat with my dairy allergy. The food was flavorful without being over seasoned and there were plenty of wonderful options. My whole family left happy and satisfied. I look forward to returning on my next visit!

I walked in and sat at the bar on my way home from work a couple nights ago. The service was great and the drinks were unique and tasty. I'd definitely go back for cocktails. However, I had sushi for dinner and this was pretty underwhelming...especially for the premium price. Next time I'll try something different but stop by for the cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyThe fresh sashimi was amazing.
The wine and cocktails were also lovely. Had a good time overall.

I was really excited to go to Oceans for the first time on Valentine's Day with my wife. We had some really high expectations seeing as they have a 4.6 on Yelp, but we ended up pretty disappointed by the end of the night. We had the Crab Cake, Tuna tartare, short rib, and surf & turf. The crab cake was pretty good, but was not super fresh. The tuna tartare w/ caviar, also had a distinct unfresh taste. Finally, we got our mains, and everything looked delicious, but the crab in the surf & turf was terrible, it tasted like they found it in the corner of a NYC bodega at 4am. It tasted so expired that I'm pretty sure some people must have gotten food poisoning. My stomach wasn't so happy this morning myself, and I only had 2 bites of that back-alley crab. The steak in the surf and turf and the short rib were delicious! Mashed potatoes, delicious! But man, how does a seafood restaurant strike out 3x on seafood!? The wait staff were super nice, the manager came over and had them remake the crab, but it was still the same expired crab they'd been using all night. They took off $25 from the check for the bad crab, but it was still a $400+ meal, and I can't say it was worth it. You would think that on Valentine's Day, they'd have some fresh seafood, but it seems like maybe a fridge had broken or something. I wish I could give them another chance because the ambiance is great and the staff are great, but when it comes to bad seafood sold at Michelin star prices, you really only get 1 shot.
Be the first to ReplyReally great food, best steak I've had in a while.
The drinks are really great too!Service was great, they are attentive without being overbearing

Very fresh seafood offered in many ways: raw tower, sashimi or sushi, and baked. The shortrib steak and crab cake were also excellent.

Amongst sea of fine dining restaurants, I'm seldomly impressed by a restaurant. With that said Ocean is incredible. I had a client meeting across the street and was drawn here by its ambience and energy. Aside from a well balance and not over the top decor, the food is incredible. We ordered a seafood crudo and was immediately blown away. While the steaks are great but the Miso Cod is a must try. Service is attentive, prompt and friendly. It's has since became one of my regular spots.

I had a busy morning at work, and walked to this place, as I was dying to try some seafood while in the city. I couldn't decide what to do, so I ordered both a seafood dish and some sushi. The Rocketman sushi was just as amazing as it sounded. It was a delicious roll topped with seared salmon. The salmon was super fresh, and the sear of the salmon mixed with the small hint of truffle set this off. Now the Alaskan Black Cod. Baby...this changed my life. The cod was very, very fresh and had an almost buttery taste to it. The glaze on the fish, caramelized, just perfectly and it gave the fish a nice sweet taste to go with the creaminess of the fish. I didn't love the vegetables and broth it was atop of, but who cares; this fish was a dream. This was definitely the best meal I had while visiting New York.. and I was there for an entire week. I was eating everything under the sun! This definitely lives up to the hype and the delicious pictures. When I come back to the city, I'm definitely swinging by again.

Everything was phenomenal! Ambiance, service, house made bread and the mushrooms soup .... Omg so good!
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing experience.
1) the restaurant greeter was late and passively rude. 2) Waitress gets confused when mentioning a dietary requirement. Had a basic salad to avoid the lack of attention/listening to a dietary request.

This place was incredible! The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Our favorites were the ceviche and the Hawaiian walu. The halibut was a close second! 10/10!!

I recently read an article about the popular Japanese New Year lucky food called the buri. After reading further, I discovered that consuming buri has significant health benefits. Very few restaurants carry this type of fish. I learned this place has it, and this particular dish has black truffles and peking duck broth. The complementary bread was so good, and I devoured it because the Sancerre was coming out through my pores. The Toro tartare topped with caviar the wonton crisps. It was a great starter dish. Then the grilled buri came in - one of the amazing dishes I've ever had, and the Sancerre cuts through the flavors of the dish, making it balanced. The place is so pretty. I would consider having a birthday dinner or a girls' dinner here. By the way, the bathrooms are tech based, where everything functions by pressing buttons on a wall mounted keypad. Service was great.
Be the first to ReplyI came to Oceans first in mid-2022 and it was incredible.
But I came back recently for a second time and it was very solidly disappointing at a very, very high price point. The service and ambiance are wonderful. But the Japanese/sushi portion of the menu is just incredibly lackluster. The rolls are blah - muted flavors, temperature issues. It's like being at a low-grade sushi restaurant on St. Marks. I definitely DO NOT recommend any of the sushi rolls!!!! Even the tuna tar tar was pasty and actually kind of gross.I'm guessing that their more classic cuisine is the way to go. But learning that was a very expensive and sad lesson.
Be the first to ReplyService The waiter and waitress was attentive.
Food came out promptly. No extended wait time at all. Food & Libations Taking advantage of restaurant week. I had the mushroom soup which was amazing. Great flavor paired with the croutons. For the main course i had the Cod which was light and buttery. Great tasting overtop crunchy bok choy! My ginger inspired cocktail was perfect to go with my meal. Flawless meal. Ambiance. Very chill vibe. With sea inspired decor. By far the best bathroom I've used! If you go here check it out!Returning or nah ? Is this even a question? Hell yeah !

Came here for my girlfriend's bday and the service + vibes here are amazing. The hostess was very welcoming and came to check on us multiple times. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive--I don't think our water cups were ever empty. We ordered a non-alcoholic drink called "Early Riser" and this was delicious and very refreshing. As for the food:Parmesan truffle fries: Standard fries. They're goodCrab cake: 10/10. They do not skimp on crab meat and would come back just to get more of thisSalmon: They do an amazing job searing the skin and that really adds to the dish. The flavor itself is also just standard. Not the best but it's good. The vegetable(s) paired with the salmon were a bit too plain in flavor for me. However I will say they nailed the texture with the cauliflower bits, nuts and raisins.Black Cod: You could tell right off the bat that this fish was very fresh. You could taste the natural sweetness of the cod and the Asian inspired flavors complemented well. This dish was very unique and it was interesting to try out. We were very full right after our meal and were going to opt out of dessert since we have a bad habit of over stuffing ourselves. However our waiter and general manager surprised my GF with a NY style cheesecake with a blueberry sorbet stating she couldn't leave without some dessert! The staff here are second to none and even though not all the food was to my taste, would come back for the vibes and try some more dishes and drinks.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant extremely attentive professional Staff.
May have dined there on an off night. The bar was well stocked with great varieties. However the dinner was a bit lacking, started with the Caesar Salad which looked beautiful but was lacking in taste, dried out, average dressing and over kill on the cheese . The main course fish dinner looked beautiful, ย cold and drowned in sauce, the fries soggy and over sauced as well. Very disappointed.....

I called for a week and left messages for their event coordinator. ย The hostess said the room was available for the date, time and party size I wanted to reserve and the event coordinator would call me to discuss the details. ย She never called me back so on my 6th or 7th try calling, someone finally put her on the phone and she said they were booked. ย This is so unprofessional and unacceptable. ย I have 15 surgeons that were planning on having dinner in their private room and now I have to scramble to find a new space.
