We went to Odette's in early July for lunch and really enjoyed the food . The service was excellent and we were happy with the three course meals and appetisers which were on the house. However the chairs (French) were quite uncomfortable specially for me but I bore it as it was for a short time. We usually go out for a nice meal once a week.My husband heard about our experience and so he wanted to treat us there for my daughter-in-law's birthday dinner yesterday. As it was hot my son had requested in his online booking if it was possible to seat us in a cool place due to my high blood pressure. Unfortunately they gave us the same table and chairs, as the Air Conditioning was supposedly best there. Since we were there for a while all of us were feeling quite uncomfortable and my husband had to go and sit for a while in one of the comfortable seats in the same room. The appetisers they served were delicious. My starter was good but the children did not enjoy their cured trout. My husband did not order a starter and enjoyed the fish main he had ordered. The three of us had ordered lamb but all of us were served each with a small fatty lamb chop. We were really disappointed with our mains. The desserts were delicious and the service was very good.It is unfortunate that we are unlikely to go back there again. My friend and I had planned to go there for lunch next week but obviously it is now cancelled.

Upon arrival, my spouse and I informed the host that we would like to wait for a table outside. There was a couple clearly towards the end of their meal so it would be about a twenty minute wait. I told the host we would sit across the way at a tea shop outside, waiting for the space to open up. We asked if he could inform us when the table was open/ready. We were a mere 10 meters away and he had full visibility of our table. Amdist the tea, we saw another couple seated at the table we were promised. We returned to confront the host. He floundered and spewed incomprehensible rationale for why he did not let us know the table was ready. Completely unacceptable. If the accountability is this bad in the host/waiters, I can't imagine how it is in the kitchen.

We were definitely NOT alone in this as the tables around us were, for the most part, couples. We were sat in what appeared to be a small library room with shelving to one side. Such fabulous decoration and perfect lighting. Loved it.We were escorted to our table by a lovely and polite young man, and then a fabulous guy from Brazil took over our service. He was wonderful and so charming. I'd eat here just for that sort of service. We were given olives to start as well as some amazing soda bread. I really want the recipe for that soda bread! We then moved on to our starters. My husband had oxtail, which was lush, and I had the scorched salmon, which we declared the overall winner. Lightly seared with a gorgeous sauce on the side. I could eat that regularly. We then moved onto our mains of Welsh lamb and rabbit saddle. Looking at it, it didn't appear to be that much food, but it was so rich that it filled us right up. And that's the thing about the food here. You are not going to get huge portions but you won't care. This is quality over quantity with a side of fill me up. While the desserts sounded lovely, we decided to move on. I didn't want to taint our experience by getting over-full. I liked the fact that the wines are offered by the glass, by a carafe and by the bottle. There's enough of a choice of each to be happy but not too much to be confused. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion or date night. Definitely check it out!
Be the first to ReplyI found Odette's to be pretty common (for the price).
The food was average to good, but I thought the service as way below the bar. They were quite slow and inattentive.

Just back from a great night @ Odettes; food was superb, beautifully presented and altogether delicious..... Now the downside.... 10 mins wait for our first drink not good! Service in general average at best- I don't want fawning or smarmy, I just want somebody to acknowledge my existence!! Please get some decent waiters, your food is great!
Be the first to ReplyJust great food and lovely ambience.
Perfect for couples or celebrating. the location means you stay clear of all the suits trying to impress their business colleagues.Bryn Williams really knows his stuff. Food is complex but not pretentious. The emphasis is on taste. Really great vegetarian tasting menu, they have actually made an effort instead of just doing a lazy risotto.

We chose to have the set lunch menu a few weeks ago, and it was absolutely delicious. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Love the newly renovated garden space, perfect for a private function. Now owned by Welsh chef Bryn Williams, he prides himself on using Welsh produce and local. If you've never been, do yourself a favour & treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Ricky Gervais was eating here at the same time as us last Saturday. I'll leave it to Qypers to decide whether this is a good sign or not! Anyway, we'd booked a table for 2 on our way back to Wales from London. Turning up 15 minutes early was not a problem and our luggage was taken to the office for safekeeping. The service was, on the whole, unobtrusive and efficient. Odette's is smaller than I'd imagined - high-ceilinged and a little bit dark and romantic but with space on the pavement outside for diners too. We both had the starter and main from the set lunch menu (£20 for 2 courses) - cured salmon with radish, ginger and creamy wasabi to start, then confit mutton with black olive gnocchi, aubergine purée and a small panful of gravy. Presentation was second to none, though the salmon was a little on the bland side and the portion sizes were wildly different (my partner got the short straw). I then had tiramisu with blood orange and toasted marshmallow. I was a bit disappointed that the tiramisu I'd had at Jamie's Italian the previous week was much better! The orange and marshmallow added nothing to the dish. He had pistachio and apple cake. We had a lovely bottle of Argentinian sauvignon blanc and the bill, inc. service, came to £91. So overall, really worth a visit but if it's a Michelin star Bryn is after, I think the food needs to pack a bit more of a punch (admittedly, I only tried the set menu but the point still stands). Otherwise great.

Went for a 2 course meal in Odette last Friday and left feeling robbed. Whilst the starter (the langoustines) was very fine and well presented, the turbot (supposedly, the Queen's favourite - don't go for it!) was an utter disappointment. The service was contrived and attending staff was polite but very impersonal with us.We went for Chablis as our accompanying wine. It was poor considering its price (£23 for half a bottle) and not chilled when we first tried it. All in all, will probably not go again, considering the astronomical bill we got for not a great overall experience.
Be the first to ReplyA nice room, but we should have left when the manager
A nice room, but we should have left when the manager refused to turn down the (bad) dance music he was playing. Amuse-bouche and starters were fine, but £18 for a tiny square of polenta as a main course was insulting, and the rabbit was a small handful of meat, indifferently cooked - too little for a starter and a joke as a £20 main. We left so hungry we had to go to a second restaurant. This place clearly thinks it should have a Michelin star. I felt robbed.
