Orso New York Reviews from The Last Year
I walked pass this restaurant many times when I go to
I walked pass this restaurant many times when I go to restaurant on 46 street I have been to the one in London and I've been to it many years ago but I must say it was beyond my expectations. Small restaurant small menu but the food was delicious. I had the salmon. We also had a pasta dish and we had the softshell crab. Excellent. Waite Remember staff was excellent. Everybody was well trained, professional, and helpful. They brought us a little ice cream with a candle on it make us feel special for our birthday !!moderate price New York standards I will definitely return !!! It been way too long and now I know the reason it's been in business since 1983 is because it's a little gem of a restaurant
The food is wonderful and fresh at Orso.
The service is friendly as is the whole vibe. I can't say enough about this elegant restaurant. I have risotto often and the dish at Orso's is the best I ever had. The wine is always good and I think the pricing is really reasonable.
Great spot
Great food, staff was wonderful and so welcoming and accommodating. Had the Rigatoni and the cauliflower appetizer that waiter recommended and was fantastic.
Very warm welcome, beautiful food and good atmosphere
First time we dined here we hadn't booked but we were greated with a smile and a promise they could squeeze us in in a few minutes. Shown to a bar table and given a menu to look at while we waited. It was packed as just before the shows were due to start. We were in no hurry and quickly were shown to a table and emjoyed a quieter restaurant, but by no menas empty one. Food was fantastic. Enough choice to find something you like but not overwhelming. I had pear salad to start followed by prawn risotto. Both were delicious. The dressing on the salad was superb. We had such lovely service we decided to book to come back for our final night and we had an equally lovely service the second time. I had charred cauliflower starter - gorgous flavours and the risotto again as I loved it so much the second time. This time I had learnt to leave space for dessert, managing to squeeze in a devine olive oil cake. First time I had tried olive oil cake - what a find! Cannot recommend this place enough - but book if you a show time dependent to avoid disappointment.

Service very friendly. Food very good. Prices very good for New York. Good location, will happily recommend it.
Great pre Broadway spot to grab some Italian food.
Delicious wine menu and fantastic dishes. We enjoyed everything we ate! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and left us to ourselves to enjoy a private dinner as a family. Quaint atmosphere with good music and Italian vibe decor. We enjoyed our meal!
Charming, cozy spot for a pre-theater meal .
.. this is a lovely (throw back -- in a good way!!) restaurant ... excellent, thoughtful, and personable service will make you feel very well-cared for before your show (and no worries about making your theater time) ... the food is delicious -- all serviced on whimsical Italian pottery -- the black sea bass and penne bolognese were particular standouts ... as well as the house-made white bean dip they serve with warm crusty bread. Great reasonable wine choices and elegant cocktails... Can't wait to go back!!
My wife and I dined here prior to a show.
It's a nice cozy atmosphere. Our service was prompt, attentive, and mindful that we were attending a show, but never felt rushed. My Italian old fashioned cocktail was lovely. Menu is small but good options. My wife had a linguini and I had sea bass. We each enjoyed our meal and flavors were well-balanced. Tiramisu for dessert was phenomenal, and cappuccino was perfect.
Italian excellence in Hells Kitchen
Amid New York's gastronomic scene, where the tradition and excellence of Italian cuisine are revered, Orso Restaurant stands out by respecting classic recipes and the quality of ingredients that have made Italian cuisine a global reference. Strategically located on Restaurant Row, on 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues, this establishment is a true ode to the authentic flavors that characterize Italian cuisine.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience at Orso's! The
Absolutely wonderful dining experience at Orso's! The moment we walked in we were greeted warmly and helped with our coats and umbrella's on a very rainy night. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Seating is very comfortable and the noise level was low where we could easily converse. As a New Yorker, I'm wondering why I'd never been there previously as it's in the heart of the theater district. We'll certainly return.
Tutto Perfetto!
This is a great spot for dinner after a show on Broadway. It is an easy walk from all the theaters and is open late. Most importantly the food and service are great! It also is extremely resonably priced for the location.
Good quality food at reasonable price
Brought my teen daughter here as a holiday treat. The service was great. Everyone was warm, friendly and clearly trained to make sure guests have what they need. Food was ready at a good pace. Good portions for the price considering location. Recommend the risotto and the penne. Dishes at other tables looked great as well. What I like about the place is that they seem to try to have a shorter (but sufficient) menu, which in their case means concentration on better execution. Sometimes a long menu results in inconsistent results and ingredients that are not fresh. Pizza was nice and crispy, with good sauce, but probably not something I’d go for again, as there are better pizza options in the area if that’s what you’re looking for (something about the dough that didn’t work for me). Definitely a safe bet next time you are seeing a show or otherwise visiting the area. Also, their website lists the run times for all bway shows, to help you with scheduling your reservation.
Ideal pre-theatre meal
Ideal location when going to a theatre show- we saw Hamilton which is just a couple of minutes walk away. Very quick service, food quality excellent. Vegetarian options for my wife
Disappointing, cold and unwelcoming
We went here late on a Sunday night for dinner, and the waiter gave us a table even though we soon found out, that they were practically closed for the night, and really didn't want to serve us. We were only and extra earning on that night. We were seated close to the entrance, and there was a terrible and freezing cold draft. We kept our coats on. When the food came it was nothing out of the ordinary, and we really don't understand the good reviews this restaurant has. We waited a long time for our waiter, who was chatting with the rest of the staff instead of paying attention to us. Some of the food was cold when served. Value for money was low.
It's a cute family spot for Italian food on a street packed
It's a cute family spot for Italian food on a street packed with tourist traps, a recommended place if you're thinking about going to a show nearby. The restaurant is small and cozy, nothing splashy and the service is very attentive and friendly. The menu is extremely small and limited, so make sure you check it before you go so you have options. The food is nothing to write home about but it's okay, you will most likely enjoy it, just won't be impressed. I have to highlight the mussels appetizer, they were juicy and the sauce was absolutely tasty (I mopped it out with the bread). The bolognese pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce is also pretty good. If you're a fan of calf liver (like I am) I can assure you you'll like this flavorful and tender one (it's hard to find a place that does it justice). In an area that is flocked with tourists and people going to theaters, it's a place good enough to have an okay dinner at a reasonable price.
Very good dishes
Very well cooked dishes, be it pasta or rice. Optimal service. Comfortable tables and an elegant place without being rocococo. Somewhat high price.
Delicious from start to finish!
We had a wonderful pre-Broadway meal at Orso! Three of us shared appetizers, mains and two desserts. Every morsel was fabulous! The mozz & prosciutto app was very good, but the octopus with beans was even better and the cured salmon with greens and a grated egg garnish was so fresh and light and original. We loved it! We did not share as much of our mains and they were not as unique as the salmon app, but they were all quite good: bolognese, scallop risotto and duck breast. For dessert, the olive oil cake with strawberries was just right - light and not overly sweet, but the chocolate and raspberry mousse cake was the ultimate! The chocolate was rich and creamy and perfectly balanced with the raspberry mousse which kept the overall dessert from being too heavy. It was a perfect ending to a lovely meal! We hope to be back soon and will be dreaming about the wonderful food until then!
A little background: before 2016, I worked in Manhattan
A little background: before 2016, I worked in Manhattan most days and loved eating out and going to Broadway plays. Then I retired and continued to go "into town" until the pandemic. Well, I rediscovered two facts that I had forgotten - 1) Restaurant food is better in Manhattan and 2) Entree prices are less in Manhattan. My meal at Orso proved these two facts. This charming nicely decorated professionally run friendly restaurant delivers a single page of "hit" apps and entrees. The dishes presented here may sound like suburban descriptions of bolognese on homemade pasta - but trust me they are better, We started with the Cozze fra diavolo ($22)- a truely spicy red sauce over the most tender mussels with grilled garlic bread. This dish was the best mussel dish I've ever eaten and I've eaten dozens of them. Fettuccine Romana ($28)- pancetta, chicory, pepper, fried egg and parm - a great simple dish made perfect with the fried egg. It was twice as good as the recent Westchester version I tried. The Pollo Rosmarino ($33) - a half free range roasted chicken which I had with duck fat roasted potatoes (substitute) - it was tender, crisp, buttery skin done perfectly. Melt in your mouth potatoes. Great fresh taranova bread for dipping. Professional service by Elise. At $108 total bill for two drinks and two entrees and one appetizer. Highly recommended.
A spectacular dinner !! The chicken was the best.
The service was amazing in truly a delicious place
