Waited 40 minutes to not receive eggs and potatoes.
When I finally asked if the food was still coming, a person who seemed like a manager said they would go check on it and just never came back. I eventually told a server I needed to leave. They charged me four dollars for the single coffee I'd been sitting with for the better part of an hour and offered zero acknowledgment of the fact that they never even made the food and wasted my time. Accidents can happen, but it couldn't have been handled more poorly. It's pretty clear the place has a leadership challenge. The food is decent, it is not special, but it is overpriced. I've been a couple times before and noticed, as many others here have pointed out, that the hospitality was lacking and simple orders, even just a cup of coffee, took a very long time, but today was ridiculous. Never going back again.
Be the first to ReplyThe breakfast experience has been consistently outstanding.
The quality and taste of their offerings never cease to amaze, making it a reliable go-to spot for a delightful morning meal. The dedication and passion of the staff shine through in every dish, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. In the heart of Clinton Hill, this breakfast spot not only champions women entrepreneurship but also serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of delicious and reliable breakfast options.

Decided to finally try Otway for brunch and see if the experience matched the vibe the photos gave. I would give a 3.5 if half stars were an option. They use Resy as their booking platform and there's a $25pp cancellation fee. It gives you until a few hours before (maybe 6?) but that fee might've been why there was a ton of open reservations when booking the day before and a lot of people trying to come in as walk ins. One member of my party fell victim to weekend MTA disasters and was forced to bus transfer when their train got stuck underground, so we appreciate the Otway staff still honoring the reservation despite their delay. It was a weird experience to feel rushed by the hostess, but also like we had to beg for the servers attention to order. The restaurant could do with one less two top table down the middle, it's crowded and there's a lot of jostling. We were able to move to a wall table - definitely try for one of these. The chai latte was nice sized & not too sweet. The baked goods aren't automatically heated up and the person who ordered theirs as a meal received it immediately after we placed our order which was a little awkward for pacing. The egg sandwich was a nice surprise. It arrived a little underwhelming looking on a small side plate wrapped in foil, but the bread had a slight sweetness to it which really elevated the flavor. Some of the brunch drinks at tables around us looked worth trying and there was a good crowd mix in there. I think I'll try the bakery instead next time and maybe treat the restaurant more like a quick stop option (ie sitting at the cocktail stools at the bar) vs a sit down experience. One interesting flag, at the bottom of the menu it said there would be a $1.50 fee to take any uneaten food to go. That coupled with the reservation cancellation fee that costs more than most menu items was a turnoff. I understand to go supplies cost money and cancelled reservations make it hard to reach cover capacity, but when those issues are handled this way it comes off as a little cold. All in all, give it a shot - either make a reservation for a time you know you won't need to adjust and request a wall seat, or maybe go in slow and grab a seat at the bar for a drink and a pastry.

We had to wait 80 min for our food even with a reservation and a very simple brunch order (eggs and a burger)
Be the first to ReplyGreat drinks and overall vibe.
The burger was better than expected. Would go back to try other things too

The food is amazing. The staff is kind and welcoming. It has a modern welcoming look to it, and it feels very homely.

Stumbled upon Otway on a Saturday around brunch time and decided to stop for a bite, as there were plenty of available tables. I ordered the deluxe breakfast with bacon and it was tasty -- the bacon and the crispy potatoes were particularly amazing. However, I did find the all-day food menu to be a little limited. This place seems to shine for its pastries and drinks, neither of which I tried on this visit. But with $10 glasses of natural wine and great deals on happy hour cocktails, I'll definitely need to come back.
Be the first to ReplySuch a gem! Food was the best I've had in awhile.
The service is great and the place is cute.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently imaginative menu and great preparation.
Good drink menu, cute space. Don't miss their bakery further down the block.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a really solid brunch option.
We sat outside, but the inside is so cute and very minimalist and I would recommend either one. The both of them have great vibes. We got a few drinks and we ended up getting the deluxe breakfast which came pretty fast considering they seem pretty busy for brunch and the deluxe was breakfast was so good. The bacon was really perfectly cooked. Eggs were great. I wish there was a little bit more quantity wise. Potatoes were stellar and actually The toast was so good that I ended up getting more from the bakery next-door because I was so impressed and blown away.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
They have two high chairs if you decide to go in with kids. Great service. Cool vibe and ambiance. I wish I could have gotten more of the baked goods by eating at the restaurant, but overall no complaints
Be the first to ReplyI think this is my first review in many many years! Anyways.
.. back to Otway, which we decided to try because I had passed by before and it looked cozy and intimate and gotta say, I'm glad we did! We made reservations for Sunday night. We are always a bit skeptical about dining at intimate places with a toddler because you get looks and I get it, sometimes they're a bit much. But I was relieved that upon arrival we were welcomed by the staff who were all super friendly and accommodating. They sat us down and took our drink and appetizer order. We went for the classic Negroni and the Sunkissed (both solid) paired with the Trout Crudo and dates in duck fat (highly recommend). For our meals, we both are steak lovers, so we ordered the Hanger steak. The steak was cooked to perfection... juicy, tender and savory with sauce Au Poivre... yum yum this is making me hungry! For dessert we had the Pavlova which was a variation to your regular pavlova so it was interesting and what made this pavlova stand out was that it was the right amount of tart/sour and sweet. So to not drag this review further, I definitely recommend this neighborhood gem! Check 'em out if you're around!

Otway is one of my favorite restaurants to get a burger!!! It's so delicious!! The fries are irresistible as well. Don't forget to get the Little Gem Salad because I can eat this every day. It's crunchy and the vinaigrette has the right amount of acidity. It's truly a hidden gem in Crown Heights.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Otway for dinner with my partner and was blown away.
From hello to coffee they nailed it. They were busy with a great atmosphere; bustling but still able to hear your conversation. We sat at the bar and had bread & butter, a salad, and then steak and halibut for entres. @!h8ing fantastic. Halibut was one of the better prepared dishes I've had in a while. Very happy this place survived the pandemic so I could come visit.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic brunch with a beautiful ambiance.
Had a great time catching up with friends here and the brunch items were very simple but elevated in flavor. The matcha latte had a pristine texture along with good coffee!I got the egg sandwich with a side of crispy potato, my party got the otway burger, eggs with crispy potato and a side / lamb mergeuz sausage and avocado. The fries were done really well and I must say the "crispy potato" side is not just 1 potato, it's the whole bowl of home fries! My eggs were done very fluffy to perfection and the cheese added the perfect creaminess to it. The lamb mergeuz patty was delicious and the bread was handmade and tasted so fresh and good. A perfect egg sandwich. My party also had very soft and fluffy eggs all cooked to perfection and the potatoes were all really good and better than most fries. The burger was super juicy and had really good flavor and honestly it was a picture perfect brunch both in taste and aesthetic. It was super filled up earlier but we ended up staying throughout the time and realized they actually close at 3/4 to prep for dinner time so that's one thing to note. Overall I can see why everyone comes here for Sunday brunch! It is THE best brunch spot in the neighborhood for eggs and toast :)

Otway is such a hidden gem! Great ambiance and natural wine selection, and really special food. Their happy hour is a fantastic bargain.
Be the first to ReplyWent for NY's eve.
I will try and be objective. Great atmosphere and lovely wait staff. We had prix fixed meal. 45mins to get bread. 2 hours for main meal. Food was good but not filling and definitely not special. Wine bottles only came in magnums at massive mark up ($120/bottle). Spent $125/head and left pretty unfulfilled. I am guessing something was up with the kitchen but at these prices they could do way better. It's just too precious. Won't be returning...
Be the first to ReplyFantastic restaurant and bar.
We arrived around 7 on a weeknight and were seated promptly. A few wines by the glass, a few bars, and a good selection of whiskeys. Good variety without being overwhelming. I opted for their red wine special which was a blend from Oregon; nothing fancy but reasonably priced at $13 per glass. We started with one of their specials. It was an onion dip topped with black and red caviar that was served with fried chicken skin to dip. Super creative. The chicken skin was a very bold flavor so it wasn't an ideal item to dip into caviar as it overpowered the flavor. I think the chicken skin crisps were great on their own and the dip was great too. Next, we had a charred cabbage served in a savory sauce and topped with parsley and dill. I believe the cabbage was slow cooked first to make it tender and then it was charred. I think it came out perfect. I'd highly recommend it.For the main course, I had the burger. It was served medium rare. It's a must order. Seemed like the majority of patrons were ordering it. Super juicy and savory. It's an all day burger. Served with some fresh cut fries that were crispy and seasoned on point. For dessert, we shared the olive oil semi freddo and the chocolate moouse with raspberries. I preferred the semi freddo. After dinner, I had a glass of the Glenkinchie 12. Haven't seen it before, so I decided to give it a go. Very long finish.Restroom was super spacious. It was gender neutral and handicap accessible. Service was very attentive and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant has been on my list for a while.
They have a great deal on the which is $20 for a dozen oysters. The oysters were shucked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. I also got a martini, which was perfectly made.Server and bartender were both extremely friendly & attentive.I can't wait to come back for a full dinner!
Be the first to ReplyOtway was our second choice for brunch.
Maybe I ordered the wrong dish but I thought it was very ok. I got the omelette. It was pretty boring--just cheese butter and eggs with a side of toast. It was a bit greasy and bland. My friend got the chiliqules and enjoyed it--but I'm not usually a fan of soggy tortilla chips

We had the burger (with bacon of course) and the chicken sandwich and they were both AMAZING. They both came with a side of fries so it was perfect to split between two people. Delicious fries!Ps. Suggestion to add "side of aioli" to your delivery menu

Be the first to ReplyOtway had been on my radar for some time.
Mainly because of their breakfast sandwich. I am a big believer in breakfast sandwiches. After all, I am a New Yorker. However, while I do love a baconeggncheese (yes, it's one word), I love a sausage patty egg and cheese, so much more. So when I heard of the majestic lamb sausage egg and cheese, I had to have it. True to the legend the sandwich is phenomenal. They baked bread is solid. What makes it though is that lamb sausage patty. Excellent flavor. Loved every bite. At $13 before tip, it's a pricey sandwich though. Not sure if I'd buy it again. Worth trying out though. Hope to come back for brunch.

Otway is a sweet, small-ish eatery that I definitely plan to return to! Absolutely agree with the rating of "best egg sandwich in NYC." The English muffin it came on -- whether homemade by them or by a supplier -- was one of the best I've ever had. Eggs were delicious and I had avocado added to it. Just perfect! Also want to give a shout out to the folks who work there -- super nice and helpful. Looking forward to heading back and trying other stuff. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you want to get in!
Be the first to Replyf I could give this place 0 stars, I would.
The service was horrible. I sat down and waited 20 min for someone to assist me; 5 minutes after sitting down, a white woman came in gets seated. She got her drink and her order taken, and I was still waiting when the host finally came to my table after noticing I was upset with the nastiest attitude told me that's just the new system of the restaurant. with disgust, I walk out, and what makes this all worse after a few days, I go by to ask to talk to the owner, and she ignores my request and sends a manager to speak to me, which says a lot this is the way they train the staff to be nasty and racist save your money and don't eat here
