😒 3/5 - The tasting menu lacked finesse and an identity for me.

While our table enjoyed a few of the larger dishes more than nearly anything we had at eleven Madison park (screw that place), the majority were just alright. The saving grace was the nonalcoholic pairing, which easily is on par with the best of the best. Lovely flavor and mouthfeel achieved from juice blends and techniques like coating three interior of bottles in beeswax. The alcoholic pairing was good as well - and equally well curated.Portions are small. I'm usually fine with that, but we entered fairly hungry as I improperly gauged the scale from photos online and the number 11 on the "carte blanche" menu. We asked for an additional serving of bread ($10) which fixed that problem. Don't do what we did, eat lunch beforehand lol. This was one of the first times they offered the rice add on and they asked us for feedback on it. The cost was $15, and our table agreed that the rice add on was akin to leftover rice in a foam container left in the fridge. Satisfying, but I could surely have gotten a better dish from any Indian or Mexican restaurant in NYC.I don't believe they're at a point of charging over $100 for this 11 course tasting menu which included bread as a course. The identity wasn't there nor refinement in ingredients either.Dessert courses were nice though I was craving a crunch that never came. Actually, with most dishes there was no unexpected textural play. The finishing fruits didn't pack a punch in freshness as I'd expect them to if served so plainly at the end of the meal. Plating was good but not remarkable. The service was courteous and efficient...yet there were a few spills. This place is worth going to once you've exhausted NYC options, but I'm not quite sure how they achieved a Michelin star just yet. Perhaps the tasting menu needs a refresh / review. We visited in the Spring. I can imagine greatness from this kitchen, it's just not quite there yet. I'll come back to try the a La carte seatings in the back patio - but likely won't be back for prix fixe again.Would honestly give more 2.5/5
