Principe New York Reviews from The Last Year
95% perfect.
#1. First I want to thank “ THE” entire STAFF!! These folks are excellent; from the front desk, cooks and wait staff, the trolly drivers, grounds keepers to the plumber ( who we had occasion to meet); these folks are friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, funny and go far beyond anything we have experienced elsewhere. A special shout out to our dear “Susanna” server, at the all day buffet. We would have gladly taken her home to Prince Edward Island Canada with us, but I doubt she’d like the weather. Seaweed is raked up throughout the day and wheeled away, it wasn’t an issue at all. And there was “no odour”. The food was excellent, and easily accessible all day long, in any and all locations. The resort is extremely well appointed, and huge; with lots to see and do, and maintained in pristine condition. Our room was very nice, and very well kept. The ever present wildlife is a delight. The entire resort is a twitter with beautiful tropical birds and their songs. Iguanas roam free, there are quite a few of them. Capybara’s, Long ringed tail Raccoons, and the odd stray cat, come out in the evening. The roadway’s cut gently through the jungle lead you from one magnificent and beautiful building to the next. There are numerous beautiful statues (indoors and out), dotting the landscape; the paved paths make it easy to get around; and are a source of entertainment “in and of themselves” especially at night, when the canopy is up light. The beach is long and their’s no shortage of shaded Tiki huts or lounge chairs. The place is perfect until you hit the water line, then the hard and rough limestone bottom is treacherous, it does not make for a great swimming experience.
Another very good hotel
2nd visit to Sian Ka'an. 1st in 2017. During this 2nd visit, we had a problem with the room (air conditioning). I don't remember the #, but we were in a block across from the golf course. We were told that even if we set the temperature to 19 degrees, it wouldn't change anything, because it was 1 air conditioning unit for the entire block and it was programmed at 21. We were on the 3rd floor and the temperature never dropped below 23 degrees for 2 days. We asked for a change of room and we went to Block 3. No problem with this room (a little noisy, because near the stage for the shows, but it doesn't end very late...). Amazing food. We had downloaded the Bahia app before traveling to Mexico. We checked in 10 days in advance and once checked in, we can reserve all the restaurants we want (including those at Coba, Akumal and Tulum). We made 6 (Don Pablo, Alux, Gran Tortuga, Gourmet Kuuk, Maiko and Dolce Vita). Everyone was great. Yes, they ask us every time if we want a bottle of wine for several $$, but they are not pushy. Buffet for lunch and dinner, very good. We went there once for dinner and it was very good. A lot of choices. Lots of tartars, fish and ceviche, even for dinner. The beach is less attractive than in 2017. I don't know if it's because there were a lot of waves, but on our 1st visit we were able to snorkel, not this time. We only went to the beach for 2 days. The swimming pools are very good. 3 choices of swimming pools and a 4th where there are the blocks opposite the golf course. I played 3 games there. Superb terrain. 2 weeks before I went there was a qualifying tournament for a PGA tour. As I have mentioned to many, we do not “beat” this terrain, we “play” with it, because it is not forgiving!!! Yes, the buildings are getting old (including the rooms), but it is still a very nice hotel and the service is very good and the food excellent. When we know that there is time wasted with the shuttles (to get to the beach or restaurants in other Bahias), it is less of an irritant... We will definitely return there.
One More Time SK 04/24
Having visited the Bahia Resort over the past 23 years, we were not disappointed when we chose the Sian Ka’an adults only resort. Not necessarily my personal favourite but it did not disappoint. This complex is basically our ‘second home’ , which says alot for the staff. It’s definitely the people that keep us returning to the Bahia. From the managers to the gardeners, they are amazing. So many friends over the years and so many still at the resort complex. All four hotel complexes are maintained by amazing staff and SK is no exception. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to visit this area and make the acquaintances that we have made over the years. Though it was a short visit, we had a wonderful time, allowing us to visit with our friends and make new friends at the hotel. Being a luxury and adults only, it is very quiet and the solitude was gratefully received. Food selection at SK is slightly better and appreciated, together with the alcohol selection. Amazing Bartenders…. I might add . Nothing is perfect in this world however, if you don’t enjoy yourself at this Bahia (all 4 hotels) then you are doing something wrong. Again, I won’t name names of the staff for fear of forgetting one or two. They are all wonderful…Managers, Guest Services, Reception, Wait Staff, Bartenders, Maids, Mini bar staff, Gardeners…everyone. So relax, enjoy and have a great vacation. One thing…don’t sweat the small stuff.
Beautiful multi resorts, restaurants, and beach.
Reserve your À la cart dinners a bit in advance or you’ll be eating T the Buffet. Also make sure to have your free transfer confirmed because it’s hard to correct it. The transportation between resorts was nice and the different resorts were different enough to feel the variety
Beautiful resort in the jungle
We stayed at Sian kaan april 4-11 2024. This was our third visit. We checked in on the bahia website 10 days before and booked out a La cartes. We were not able to select a villa on the website which was fine with us. The resort isn’t very big so we didn’t really care where they put us. After a long drive to the airport (accident on the highway caused a huge traffic jam) we were happy to see how quick and easy check in was! We booked a junior superior suite. We were put in building 18 on the second floor near the activity pool. The room was clean and air conditioner worked great. Lots of space and room to put your clothes. Safe worked well for us. There was robes and slippers in the room and there was also an iron and ironing board. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and body wash are all provided. The room was cleaned spotless every day and the fridge was fully stocked with chips, pop, water and mini bottles of alcohol. Sian Kaan is set in the jungle away from the beach. We love this about it. The setting is unique from other resorts we’ve been to. It’s like a quiet, peaceful oasis compared to the hustle and bustle of the 3 other resorts on the property. The staff at this resort are the reason people keep coming back. They go above and beyond to make you happy! We were so happy to see Eglaydy and Ramon in the buffet for breakfast every morning. They always had our drinks ready to go before we even got our food. I’m going to miss seeing their smiling faces every day. Santa made our omelettes every day and she works so incredibly hard and is so friendly to everyone! We ate at the cenote restaurant for lunch most days and had amazing service from Constantino. He was on the ball, making sure we always had a drink refilled and taking away dirty dishes. I did notice a bit of a decline in the food selection at this cenote restaurant compared to previous visits. We missed the chicken strips every day and the mozerella sticks and would love to see a little more variety. They no longer do the paella by the pool which was disappointing. They now bring out popsicles and sliders or pizza around the pool everyday and that was a really nice service! Francesca (sorry not sure if I spelled that right) brought us drinks around the pool every day. She was amazing! Before you could even finish your drink, she was there asking if you’d like another one. We had reservations at Tequila, Katok, Dolce Vita, Maiko, Gran Tortuga, and Alux. The service in all of them was perfect! I wish I had gotten our servers names but I can’t remember them. They were all great though. Our favourites were Katok and Dolce Vita. The food was so good! From the entertainment team, we spoke to Enrique and Alexander every day and they awesome! They’re really good at including everyone in the activities but they’re not pushy if you don’t want to do it. My husband did the bike tour and loved it! We aren’t big beach people and prefer the pools but found the coba and Akumal beaches were nicer than the Sian kaan beach. The trolleys run frequently. Usually we only waited a few minutes. I think there was only one day where we had to wait 20 minutes for a trolley. The app is horribly laid out and not user friendly at all. I don’t know why they made it so much worse than last year when we were there. They got rid of the ability to ask for a mattress topper and the scents in your room on the app so that was disappointing. Please bring that back Bahia! We have a trip to Coba booked in October with our kids and I’m going to miss Sian kaan a lot! Lol Coba is nice but Sian Kaan is just so relaxing. I’m sure we will be back to Sian kaan although I’d also like to check out some new places. It’s just hard to beat the value you get for the price we pay here. The people that complain about every little thing have unrealistic expectations. Could you find a resort that is more luxurious? Sure but it’s unfair to compare resorts that cost 2x as much. You have to be realistic about what you’re paying and what you get for that price. Your vacation is what you make of it. If you choose to get bent out of shape over a minor inconvenience, that’s unfortunate for you. This resort is clean and beautiful and the people who work here make it amazing. Talk to them, get to know them. Learn their names. They work their tails off 6 days a week to support their families. If anyone has any questions, let me know!
Bahia Sian Kaan Review
My review We booked our trip based on reviews indicating it was a luxury accommodation. Luxury is a bit of an overstatement. Overall we had a great vacation. The evening entertainment was top notch. All of the staff were very attentive. We had a junior suite. The room was very large but very dated. It was cleaned daily but for a luxury accommodation I expected more attention to detail. Also the towels were a little rough, a little fabric softener would be amazing. The fridge was stocked daily. We did not use our deck to sit out, only to dry our towels and swimwear. The pools were very nice and it was very easy to find seats without leaving towels early in the morning. One issue I had was the pool that had the entertainment was the furthest from the washrooms. The sian kaan section of the beach was very nice. It was never an issue getting there. The trolleys went every 10 minutes. Also it was great having access to the other properties while at the beach. My biggest struggle for the week was the food. Yes there was lots to choose from but for a luxury hotel the food was definitely below standard. It is the first vacation that by day 5 I was ready to go home. Booking for ala cartes was difficult as there were no available times. Which was surprising because the first one we went too was not close to being full. We were only able to book 2 out of 10. On the bright side I am going home a few pounds lighter. This is not our first Bahia Principe experience. We have stayed at Tulum, Montego Bay, and Punta Cana, and the SK is not even comparable to the other properties. I would hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. I definitely would not come back. Would choose Tulum or akumel but not this one. It would seem that the repeat visitors bracelet get “special” treatment, based on the bracelets they wear, however first timers do not so we are not motivated to sing the praises of the resort. The difference in treatment is so obvious. I totally understand that repeat customers should absolutely have extra benefits, but it should not be that first timers get a lower standard of treatment. We paid more than $6000 for the two of us to come here for 10 days. I don’t believe that we should have to lower our expectations after paying that much money. We thought a trip that cost that much would be above our expectations. It was not. This just keeps us as first timers. Will not return to SK. I know that a lot of people will disagree with my opinion but that is fine. We all have our own opinion and experience. Neither are the same, but that should not discredit my experience. People can read my review and take it for what it is.
First time great.
We stayed 9 days over Easter , Overall our stay was fantastic resort was clean and well maintained staff were friendly and helpful and really wanted feedback on your stay ,they want you to return. Ramon and Egladey in the buffet and Manuela and Melissa and bartenders in the lobby bar took great care of us. The entertainment was good. The shuttles that took us around the complex of 4 resorts ran flawlessly and consistently.I would rate the food 4.5 star mostly very good. It was our first time at Sian Ka’an and we will be returning.
Enforce the no smoking it's gross
Trip was good except for people smoking in the lobby, around the pools and on the beach. I thought smoking was banned by the Mexican government in public areas. I would like it enforced and so would many others I talked to. This is a deal breaker for us. Other resorts are enforcing it. I will go there.
Our Own Slice of Heaven: My Treasured Stay at the Sian Ka'an
Tucked away in a serene corner of Riviera Maya, the Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an stands as a quiet testament to the blend of nature's beauty and human hospitality. This was our second visit to the resort, and it proved to be just as special and memorable as the first, perhaps even more so, thanks to the unparalleled service and the small yet significant improvements observed throughout our stay. Upon our arrival, the seamless experience was immediately set into motion by Francisco and Roberto at the front desk. Their welcoming smiles and efficient handling of our check-in and late checkout were just the beginning of what was to be an exceptional stay. Francisco, in particular, went above and beyond, ensuring our stay was not just satisfactory but genuinely special, with his attentive inquiries and actions to enhance our experience. Gameliel, our bell boy, greeted us with a personal touch that made us feel at home right from the start, embodying the resort's commitment to guest comfort from the first moment. Dining at the resort was a journey of flavors, with the buffet offering a fresh and inviting selection every day. Despite being selective in my choices, focusing on freshness, the grill station, omelette bar, fresh fruit, sushi, and the Mexican corner never disappointed. I personally usually avoided the hot food within the “middle island” at the buffet since those options were more “run of the mill” buffet foods with less emphasis on freshness. As someone who prefers quality fresh staples over the vastness of options, this choice was ideal for me. The attentive service of Mirian, Claudia, Suemi, and Edgar at the buffet made every meal enjoyable. Santa, with her delightful omelettes, added a personal touch to our mornings. The sense of belonging was further enhanced by Jazmin, Diana, and Daniel, whose personalized attention made every dining interaction special, with Daniel remembering us from our previous visit. The specialty restaurants, Maiko and Alux, provided unique dining experiences. Rigoberto's welcoming presence at Maiko turned a meal into a memorable event, and the exceptional French fusion cuisine at Alux, managed by Gabriel, with Pedro's service and Diana's hosting, stood out as culinary highlights. Leisure times were spent amidst the calming waters of the Sian Ka'an pools, where Lorena, our drink runner, ensured our relaxation was uninterrupted. The pool bar staff, including Antonio and Carlos, remembered our preferences, adding a personalized touch to our leisure moments. For those looking to venture to the beach, the trolley service, facilitated by Hilario and Rigoberto, provided easy access, although I'd recommend starting this service earlier for guests eager to catch the sunrise. The guest experience team, particularly Liz and Camila, were instrumental in tailoring our stay to perfection, managing reservations and offering insights that enriched our visit. Downtime in the lobby was uplifted by the crafted beverages from Jhovanni, Randi, and Romeo, with Jhovanni excelling in accommodating special requests, showcasing the resort's dedication to guest satisfaction. Mario's birdwatching tour at EcoBahia offered a deep dive into the area's natural beauty, enhancing our connection to the surroundings. The Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an's charm is magnified by its staff's commitment to creating a welcoming and memorable environment. Each staff member, from Aurora the manager to almost every individual we encountered, played a part in weaving a tapestry of unforgettable experiences. This resort is not just about relaxation and service; it's about feeling a part of a larger story of hospitality and warmth. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Trolley Service: An earlier start to the beach trolley service would be appreciated for those of us keen to enjoy the sunrise at the beach. 2. Room Comfort: Updating the couches in the rooms would enhance the overall comfort and aesthetic. 3. Rooftop Shade: Adding umbrellas or shade structures on the rooftop penthouses would provide a more enjoyable outdoor experience. 4. Dining Variety: Introducing tortillas at the Yalku buffet and expanding the Mexican corner would offer a more comprehensive taste of local cuisine. 5. Beverage Options: Including dairy-free milk alternatives at the lobby bar would cater to a wider range of dietary needs. 6. Room Service Menu: Allowing for specific fruit selection in room service orders would reduce waste and improve guest satisfaction. 7. Water Bottles: An option to order bottled water via the app would streamline the process and enhance efficiency. 8. Tub Filling Service: Although not a necessity, the reintroduction of the tub filling service would be a delightful touch. Each visit to Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an leaves a lasting impression, thanks to its blend of natural beauty, culinary delights, and exceptional service. It's the dedication of the staff and the thoughtful touches that make every stay here truly special.
Sian Kann Mexico
Loved every minute. Was dry season with one light shower in 2 weeks stay. Food was awesome. Katok and the Brazilian Restaurant deffo worth a visit. Staff are super friendly, nothing too much trouble. Tip them and they really look after you, they really appreciate this. This is the first place in the World so far I can see me and the Wife retiring to. Mexico Sian Kaan Bahia principal see you soon.
Outdated ,Dark Lamp covers, stained fabric couch, Buffet food lacks quality in taste, I won’t be returning.
March 2024 Bahia Príncipe Luxury SIAN KAAN- some of the rooms are OUTDATED, at night dark my room was dark ( dark Light covers over bulbs don’t help. 1 Fabric couch with visible stains, you can’t clean the Fabric for germs, so sit on the vinyl chairs. The staff are pleasant & helpful but tipping is not Mandatory at a Inclusive unless you want to. Buffet food lacks taste & quality. Food tastes a little better at the 2 Restaurants on location with Reservations required. Room Service is included for free but food not great. For me, I won’t be returning.
Not a Luxury Hotel
Very disappointed with our stay here. The room was pretty small (described as a Junior Suite Superior). It was in quite rough shape, the furniture was very worn out, and the King Size bed was two twins pushed together. The towels were extremely rough. The air conditioning was either on or off; there was no way to adjust it. The “Quiet Pool” was not handicapped-accessible (one of us was temporarily hobbled), so we had to physically pull them out of the pool. There wasn’t steps or a handrail. We’ve been to this resort six times, but this is the first time at Sian Kaan. I doubt we’ll return to the Grand Bahia Principe.
Disappointed
Charging extra for premium alcohol and when they did have somewhat of an acceptable brand was gone and not replenished ! Charging extra for shows in which we’re not very good! Not worth the extra money! A little disappointed of our experience than it was in the past times we have been here.
OK but not luxury.
NOT LUXURY! I really wanted to love this hotel, but there were a lot of minor glitches that accumulated into a less than great customer experience. I was a silver level Bahia Principe guest before arriving. We were booked for 28 DAYS! I reserved a superior suite, but was given a 3rd floor small room I the back of Villa 23. I immediately went to the front desk to change. Francisco helped with a room change 3 days later to Villa 1, second floor, exactly what I had been expecting. I used the concierge services extensively, mattress topper, extra hangers, bathrobes, on allergenic pillows. The service was fast and cheerful. The room is clean, but worn and bare. Really hard couch and uncomfortable chair. There are no lamps other than overhead lights. The bathrobes are fairly old waffle weave. The outdoor furniture is upright and uncomfortable. The hotel is clean and all of the staff is cheerful and hardworking, but there is nothing “luxury” about this experience.
Resort is fine for the price
5* resorts in the Mayan Riviera is a big category. You’ll notice you can book a resort with the same rating for twice the price of Sian Ka’an, so expectations should be managed accordingly. We were at Sian Ka’an March 2-9/24. This resort is at the low budget end of the 5* category, so I expected: decent food, a clean property with basic amenities, and ok service. Those expectations were mostly met. If you are considering booking this resort, here are some considerations based on our experience, trying not to repeat much of what has already been said by other reviewers. 1) Room and facilities: Room was clean and everything worked. Not the most updated or luxurious, but more than adequate. Sofa “bed” was so old and soft that it was unusable even as a place to sit. The actual (King) bed was fine. We loved our location in villa 10, right across from the “quiet” pool and Cenote snack bar. 2) Resort: We really loved the jungle location, grounds were meticulous. Lobby is very small. 3) Pools/Beach: We enjoyed the middle (quiet) pool and this resort gets a 10+++ for the lack of chair games. We never had a problem finding loungers at either the pool or beach. For some unknown reason the guests at this resort were able to conduct themselves like civilized humans. We only went to the beach twice during our stay because it was too windy. 4) Food: This is where I had to deduct points for the BP in general. Dining ranged from excellent to inedible. We had the Bahia Principle Luxury Ambar in Punta Cana as a comparator from last year, and unfortunately this resort was not as good. The buffet was typical all inclusive and some of the items were tasty if you could get them fresh. Some offerings were suspect, such as the pre-cooked hamburgers at the main buffet which looked like they may have been set out for several days. The Katok restaurant at the Akumal resort does not get enough love in my opinion: my husband declared their rib steak “one of the best he’s ever eaten”. Great open air atmosphere right on the beach. Alex and Le Gourmet (Coba) were also favourites. However Dolce Vita Italian (Akumal) and Tequila Mexican (Coba) we really did not enjoy: meat at Dolce Vita was borderline uncooked and Tequila offered tacos with greasy unappetizing meat and a chicken mole that was definitely not mole and possibly not chicken? The Mexican cuisine throughout the resort was such a disappointment considering we are in Mexico. The Cenote snack bar offered a small buffet at lunch and a limited menu at dinner, and was generally good. At an all inclusive you can’t really expect gourmet cuisine, and food is subjective, so your mileage may vary. 5) Shuttle to other resorts: no issues. Less than 10 minutes wait for any shuttles, routes were shown at the shuttle stop, were on the front of each vehicle and the driver clearly stated where they were stopping. Never had a problem getting on a shuttle because it was too full. We did not, however, try to get on one after a show at the Hacienda or other really busy times. 6) Service: staff were overall friendly and most were exceptionally helpful. Hit and miss service around the pools, but the bar is right there. Little known fact: it is possible to get A La Carte reservations even if not booked prior to arrival. I cancelled a couple based on feedback from other guests and was able to get reservations on the app for 6:30 and 7:00 at other popular restaurants while at the resort. The key is to check frequently as cancellations happen throughout the week. Overall, the saying “you get what you pay for” applied to our stay at Sian Ka’an. I think if we returned to the Mayan Riviera we’d choose a higher priced resort and hopefully receive better quality food and a more refined experience, but this is not to detract from Sian Ka’an, because I think that for a value priced option it mostly delivers.
TUI customers beware - this is neither 5* nor Premium!
We returned from the Sian Ka’an, nearly two weeks ago, and I wanted to leave sufficient time before writing to gain a little perspective and hopefully provide a balanced review. Food – the food at the resort was plentiful and varied, lots of choice in the buffet and the two a la carte restaurants at Sian Ka’an – Alux and Maiko - were excellent. It was nice to have the option to eat at the other 3 resorts, but make sure you download the app and start to book restaurants as soon as you are able, because the nearer we got to the holiday the a la carte restaurants had less availability. As I said we ate at Alux (3 times) and Maiko (once) then we went to Le Gourmet (Coba) and Don Pablo (Tulum) which were both excellent, Cosumel (Coba) was good, but lacked a bit of atmosphere and Katok (Akumal) which was a big disappointment. Unlike all the other a la carte restaurants who offered you a starter, soup, main and dessert, at Katok we were told we could choose starter or soup. We waited 55 minutes for our starter and when it arrived the main course was brought at the same time (needless to say we left before the dessert). We chose to have breakfast at the little restaurant by the pool (it's name escapes me) less choice but usually very quiet and nice to have waiter service for a change, the lunch buffet was good here as well. Staff – the staff at Sian Ka’an were helpful and pleasant, occasionally you’d get one having a bad day – but don’t we all have those! The maids worked hard and our rooms and the public areas were kept spotless. Surprisingly, considering the setting, very few creepy crawlies in the room – maybe that is because we were coming out of winter. The ratio of staff (across all the departments) to guests was very high. Resort – Set amongst dense foliage this really is a ‘jungle’ setting – infact walking back to our room at night you really felt that you were trekking in the Amazon amongst the palm trees, geckos and racoons (I know you don't find racoons in the Amazon!!!). With temperatures around 27 degrees you had to remind yourself that this was winter and that the dead leaves and foliage were to be expected. While we were there the hibiscus and bougainvillea started to bloom and I would imagine in another month the whole resort will be a riot of colour. Unfortunately, it is the resort that has prompted this review and ‘warning’ in the title. The large, open reception area was pleasant gleaming tiles and nice servicable bar area – walk through to the open entertainment area which housed the stage and more tables and chairs and it starts to look a little rough around the edges. This was made more obvious if, as we did, you visit the other resorts close by which were far plusher and more modern – Sian Ka’an really does look like the poor relation. This was even more apparent in the bedrooms. We booked a ‘junior suite superior penthouse’ and whilst factually the photograph online is correct, what is obvious from having been there, these are photos from several years ago and the actuality is very much rooms needing updating. Paintwork on the walls had been touched up with paint that didn’t quite match the original colour, the sofa bed looked old and not very inviting to sit on let alone sleep on, the backs on the mirrors in the bathroom and over the ‘kitchen’ sink were starting to disintegrate and the blinds at the windows were tatty - all in all the room did not have a 5* feel to it, in fact we’ve stayed in 3* Spanish hotels that have been this standard. American guests that we got talking to told us that the resort is advertised in the US as 4*, and many agreed that this was a stretch. The terrace – we’d booked one of these suites because of the roof terrace, our own private sunbathing space, unfortunately our terrace was in full sun all day (a positive, you might think) but as there was no shade (i.e. and umbrella or canopy) it was completely unusable, we spent the first day trying to chase strips of shade provided by the walls and the ‘pergola?’ which I assume was meant to serve as protection from the sun, and then gave up and joined the bun fight for recliners by the pool. (Be aware that there are now approximately 3 times as many recliners round the pools as are shown in the photos). Other suites with terraces facing the opposite way to ours may have benefited from more shade from the walls surrounding them, but ours (40924) definitely didn’t. We didn’t use the hot tub for the same reason, there was no incentive to spend anytime up there, it was a very uninspiring space. Walking passed the lower rooms which had terraces on the ground floor, and were very much overshadowed by vegetation, they seemed to have the opposite problem – too much shade. On arrival after nearly 20hours on the go, we were met with a disappointing room as I‘ve said, then to top it all we stared getting a noise like a generator echoing down the stairs from the roof terrace, our a/c we thought, so turned it off – unfortunately not so. We went down to reception and eventually managed to speak to Iago one of the managers who did the right thing and came back to our room to listen for himself, he arranged for the maintenance team to go up on the roof the next day and it was reported that the mountings on an a/c unit from one of the other rooms were loose, this was fixed and for several days we heard nothing and Iago and his staff were very diligent in checking that everything was ok, ringing our room or stopping us when they saw us in reception – the noise started up again at the end of our first week, but was intermittent, it was mentioned to a couple of the staff, but nothing more seemed to be done. We heard several people say how this was their 5th / 6th time back, and some of the trip advisor reviews say the same – maybe if we’d not paid north of 5K for the holiday, to stay in a 5* Premium TUI resort we wouldn’t have had such high expectations, but we certainly wont be returning which is purely down to the accommodation – staff and food, 5* all the way, but you can’t make a silk purse ...... as they say.
Great value home from home
Just returned from 2 weeks at Sian Ka'an and thought I would post a review of our time at this hotel. Before I receive any negative comments which usually follow a review, we have all ready booked for 18 nights next year. Staff. Excellent and very helpful. Anabel Sanchez Valles and Mirian Magaly Cohuo Ake were fantastic and I hope to see them both next year. José Antonio Abam Uc and all the staff at the buffet were brilliant. The entertainment team were great with a special thanks to Diego and Jose Paredes who stepped up after Valentino left for the Dominican Republic. Bar staff were exceptional with a bar ninja called Carlos at the activity pool. Food. Very good with the buffet at Sian Ka'an being lovely. Only had one meal that I didn't enjoy but I think I was tired, so that's probably on me. Restaurants. Alux, awesome, went twice, great food. Los corolas. Not great, below par service and didn't enjoy the meal. However, heard some great reviews so maybe a bad night. Japanese at Sian Ka'an, fantastic food and relaxing atmosphere. Don Pablo. Best night and visited twice. Had a full lobster which we picked from the sea food restaurant next door. Came with a filet steak, a must. The big tortoise.... fantastic meat feast with a traffic light system to eat your fill. Buffet at Akumal. Excellent food and a wide choice to suit everyone. Nipped in for breakfast prior to the Sian Ka'an beach. Italian at Luxury Coba. Just excellent. 24hr pool restaurant, used twice and was good with freshly prepared food to order. Thai. Did not enjoy, but the starter was fantastic. However one of our group loved it so again, personal choice. Great atmosphere with great staff. Rooms, okay and I believe that they are receiving a refurbishment this year. No complaints and the penthouse is worth the extra. Fridge in room was restocked every day with spirits and soft drinks. Housekeeping was brilliant. I am sure that I have missed things but, this was a great holiday with fantastic staff and excellent value for money. Can't wait to come back.
Quiet adults-only resort in the jungle.
Great staff, great service. On the jungle side of the highway but they have trolleys to take you to the beach and shopping. Had to wait 20 mins a couple of times but most of the time wait was approx 5 mins. You have access to all of the facilities of the other 3 hotels in the complex so lots of pools, bars and restaurants to choose from. Make sure to create an account and book your a-la-cartes before you arrive because they book up quickly. The Alux, Ku’uk and Gran Tortuga were our favs but many of the others are really good too. There is good snorkelling right off the beach but there is often a red flag. The Sian Ka’an beach is sheltered so you can swim and snorkel with a red flag. The beach at the infinity pool is also very sheltered and great for snorkelling even with rough surf. The pelicans usually fish around the dock and will dive into the water right beside you. Lots of coati, agouti, raccoons, iguanas and other wildlife. Great golfing a 2 minute stumble from the lobby. The 18 hole is a challenging PGA course. If you don’t want to spend 5 hours golfing, the 9 hole is a great option taking approx 1 1/2 hours; perfect for an 8 am tee time while still getting to the beach by 10 am. Bring lots of balls cause if it goes off the fairway, you won’t be finding it. Great beach service but the chairs fill up quickly so it’s best to get there before 10 am; same with the pool. Good room service menu but if you ask for something not on the menu, they will do their best to get it for you. Rooms are starting to show their age but still very nice. Mattress is hard but if you prefer a softer mattress, they have memory foam mattress toppers, you just have to ask the front desk. Still one of our fav places to stay.
Our eighth time staying there and still feels like home;
My Wife and I just returned from a 10-day vacation at the Grand Bahia Principe Sian Kaan with our travel dates being 17 September 2023 through 27 September 2023 inclusive. We traveled from Calgary, Alberta to Cancun aboard Westjet Vacations and the flight took 4 hours and 51 minutes. Upon arrival at the Cancun Airport, we discovered that many of the arrival procedures have changed since we were there a year ago and I have to say, the arrival process has been significantly streamlined. In the past, arriving passengers were required to complete a series of forms which included a Mexican Tourist Card and a couple of other documents. That is not longer a requirement as we merely presented our passports to the Customs Officer who stamped our documents and we were on our way through to baggage claim. After retrieving our bags, we expected to go through additional steps such as baggage examination and an engagement with a horticultural officer as that has been the practice for the 25 years we have been traveling to Cancun. All of that has now changed and there is a “Voluntary Declaration” line that the majority of the passengers we arrived with merely walked through without declaring anything. To be fair, there were some passengers that were randomly selected for a baggage examination, however the vast majority or people just passed through and were out the door. This process was extremely easy and took no time. The bus ride from the airport to our resort (located a long way south of Cancun and almost at Tulum) took us 2 hours and 10 minutes to complete although the air-conditioned bus was very comfortable. This was out eighth trip to this specific resort and to say it felt like a homecoming would have been an understatement. The check-in process was a breeze as we had previously checked in on line 10 days before our departure and we would highly recommend that people do that. The on-line check in also allows guests to pre-book dinner reservations which again, we would highly recommend. Download the APP before you travel and things will be much simpler. For people that have not visited this resort before, this complex is made up of four separate resorts with the Sian Kaan (Adults only) being located across the highway (non beachfront, rather proximal to the golf course) from the other three sister properties. The Tulum, Coba and Akumal are all beachfront, are “family friendly” and located on the ocean side of the highway. We had requested a room in building 6, 7 or 8 as they are the buildings that are close to the lobby and to our delight, the hotel had placed us in building 7. (Room 40703). Having not been there since the pandemic, we had an expectation that the majority of the staff members that we had come to know over the years would have likely moved on. To our delight, many of the familiar staff members are still there. More about that later. During our stay, the occupancy of the resort was around 50-60% full which resulted in some closures; some restaurants were closed each night and the Sushi Pool and bar were both closed for the majority of our stay. Also of note was the fact there is some significant construction happening near the resort as they are in the process of building the Mayan Train. We heard comments through Trip Advisor that the construction noise was overwhelming and we were very interested to see if that noise impacted our vacation. In short, we were not impacted at all although there were days (and some nights) when we could hear the noise, but not to the extent that some people described in other reviews. In the interests of providing helpful information to people reading this review, we will offer thoughts about what we really liked about this resort and also the areas we felt they could improve upon. What we most liked about the Sian Kaan: The staff are amazing. We acknowledge that so many of the people that review resorts in Mexico say that same thing and having heard it over and over again, we wanted to reinforce that point. The people working at the Sian Kaan are highly committed to making the guest experience amazing and memorable. The staff at the Yal Ku (breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet) are folks that have been working there for many years and have become great friends of ours. Despite the fact we had not been there for 5 years made no difference; they all recognized us and treated us like royalty. Daniel the Day Manager of the Yal Ku sets the tone as being the kindest, most attentive and dedicated person on the property. The wait staff including Eglaydi, Miriam, Adrianna, Nancy the Hostess and a cast of others greeted us each day with a smile and kindness. Besides the buffet at the Sian Kaan, there are also two a la carte restaurants on the property the Alux (a gourmet style restaurant) and the Makado (Japanese cuisine). That being said, guests of the Sian Kaan are allowed to visit any or all of the restaurants at the other three sister properties (Tulum, Akumal and Coba). Our experience with the Alux in the past has been nothing short of delightful. Historically, the food has been top notch and the service the same. On our first night at the resort during this trip, we did not find the food to be of great quality, so we decided to give the restaurant a second chance toward the end of our vacation and to our delight, we found the food perfect and the service above and beyond. They even have lobster on the menu which was prepared perfectly. The server Roque whom we have known for many years provided the service and Captain Gabriel was awesome as well as Neily the Hostess. Overall, a great experience. As mentioned above the other a la carte restaurant at the Sian Kaan was the Makado and once again, we found the food to be wonderful and the server Edgar was a consummate professional and made for a great evening and dining experience. The other place to eat at the Sian Kaan is the Cenote Grill which is a 24 hour restaurant and bar which is a very nice option for anytime dining. This grill is staffed by some amazing people that include servers Constantino, Jesus, Alheizer and bartenders Lucio and Pablo all of whom will take good care of you. While the food is basic, it is of high quality and the fact they are open 24 hours a day is a very nice feature. Room service is also a part of the all-inclusive offering however we did not take advantage of that feature so we are not in a position to comment on the quality of the food. We also dined at a number of other restaurants at the three sister properties and had great gastronomical experiences at all of the places. Specifically, the Kuuk Restaurant offered both great food and great service as did La Gourmet which as well worth the visit. The Frutus Del Mar which offered a great variety of seafood was outstanding as was the service and the Grand Tortuga with Captain Raquel and servers Enrique and Francisco made for a most enjoyable evening. We attended many of the shows that were offered as evening entertainment and for the most part, they were very well done. Specifically, the Jersey Boys Show was well done and performed by a group of professionals. The Circus Show was highly entertaining, as was the 1980’s Show. Also, we would highly recommend the Silent Disco (we attended twice as it was so much fun) which was hosted at the Sian Kaan once per week. The only show that we attended that we would characterize as terrible was a musical performance called the Latin Show. The music was extremely loud and annoying and the lights from the stage drove the majority of the audience out of the show and into the lobby bar. The Sian Kaan (as mentioned before) is not located on the beach, rather across the highway near the golf course and the resort offers a fleet of very efficient trolleys that run with amazing frequency from one side of the resort to the other. There was not a time at which we waited for more than a few minutes for a trolley to arrive as they are regular and efficient. The Sian Kaan also offers its own beach was located beside the Akumal beach. Guests of the Sian Kaan and adult guests of the Akumal are the only people that are permitted to use the Sian Kaan beach. There was a bar there which was staffed with some amazing people including Carlos, Alexandro, Hugo, Gabrielle and Zeity all of whom will you both entertained and ensured that we were constantly “hydrated”. As noted, the occupancy of the resort was at between 50-60% while we were there and the upside of that low occupancy rate meant a person could get a pool chair or beach chair at almost any time. The Entertainment Team was comprised of about 10 people all of whom were high energy, fun, interactive and overall great people. On one particular day we decided to take the Bike Tour which was guided by one of the Entertainment Team, a gent named Alexander. The tour was scheduled for 2 hours which at first, we found a little intimidating, however it soon became evident that it would just be 2 hours of guided fun. We strongly recommend the Bike Tour as it took the guests around the golf course with many sightseeing stops along the way, then around the other three sister resorts with stops at many points of interest. One of the other features of this resort was the mini-bar located in every guest room. Each day, someone would come around and refresh the mini bar which carried two small bags of potato chips, two beers (Dos Equis), water and three kinds of soda. A very nice touch. And finally, one of the things we most appreciated about staying at the Sian Kaan was the way in which smoking is so very carefully moderated. There are signs up all around the property asking people not so smoke and there are also designated places in which people are permitted to smoke. Being strident non-smokers ourselves, we truly appreciate the policy. That said, there were still some people at the resort who felt the rules did not apply to them and they smoked whenever and wherever they wanted but it is difficult to educate people like that. We would the following for areas of improvement: There seemed to be a lot of confusion over the dress code at the a la carte restaurants on this property. When booking a restaurant, guests are given a confirmation slip which outlines the location and the time of the reservation. The slip also includes the dress code for the restaurant and for the majority of the restaurants it clearly states “Gentlemen must wear long pants and a collared shirt.” That said, when we arrived at the Alux on our first night, we encountered people wearing athletic shorts and t-shirts which came as a bit of a surprise as we had dressed in accordance with what we had been told. This is both confusing and inconsistent with their messaging and should be addressed. It is our understanding that the resort offers a butler service however we were never told of this option, nor did we ever encounter anyone that resembled a butler (not sure what a butler looks like?) during our 10-day stay. If that was an option, it should have been offered as such and not kept a secret. Each Saturday night the buffet offers what they call the Gala night and the big draw was the fact they had lobster on the buffet. We attended expectantly in hopes that the food would be great, however very sadly, the lobster was so completely overcooked to the point it was not edible. That was the only criticism that we had about the Yal Ku buffet as every other meal we had there was awesome. On one night, we dined at the Mexican Restaurant called Tequila and the food and service were both top notch. The only challenge associated with this restaurant was the fact there was no air conditioning inside the restaurant, which made for a bit of a sweaty dining experience. That said, we would still strongly recommend a dinner there as the food was incredible. We encountered the same issue at the Los Corralos Steak House as the food was incredible yet there was no air conditioning. Captain Aldred and server Sebastian were definitely highlights of the night during that dinner. We would just ask that they explore the possibility of air conditioning. One of the other things we would encourage the resort to look at would be the quality of the drinks they serve. While the alcohol at all the bars was of great quality, we discovered that the quality of the mix (soda, cola etc) that are served from the bar soda dispenser were either flat or completely watered down. Consequently, there were many times we were served a drink that we ended up pouring out, which was not our favorite thing to do. We would recommend they examine the quality of their mix to see if that could be improved. This and that… Since our last visit, there have been two additional taxes/levies charged to people travelling to the state of Quintana Roo, one called the VisiTax which is payable on line prior to departure (in the amount of $40.00 USD per person) as well as a Eco Tax which were charged at the resort which amounted to $35.00 USD per room per visit. Be forewarned that the Eco Tax is payable in cash only and either at the time of check in or at time of check out. Also be forewarned of the presence of insects at some places within the resort so bringing bug spray is highly recommended. On a different note, given the proximity to both Akumal (The town of Tulum, not the sister property resort) and Tulum (again, the town of Tulum and not the sister property) we would strongly recommend that people staying at the Grand Bahia Principe take advantage of these two small towns for a visit. There is no shortage of things to do in both places and on this trip, we took the collectivo public transit van from the hotel to Tulum which was a great experience. We recommend using the public transit as it is a fraction of the cost of a taxi and also represents a true Mexican experience. By way of contrast, a taxi ride from the hotel to Central Tulum was $650 pesos which equates to about $50.00 USD. A collectivo ride for the same distance was 35 pesos per person which worked out to be less than $3.00 each. In conclusion, we would absolutely return to this resort and in fact have been at this place many more times than we have stayed at any other place on vacation. Please don’t let the location of the resort (non beach front) discourage you from staying there. The location is right in the jungle and the grounds are impeccable. Also, staying there provides access to all of the facilities at all of the other three sister resorts and they are all accessible after a short (less than 5 minute) trolley ride. The staff and grounds are what incents us to keep coming back. Thanks Sian Kaan for an incredibly memorable vacation, again.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
