Staff were very friendly, professional & accommodating. The restaurant was very comfortable and I loved how easily you could sneak peeks into the kitchen from where we were seated - a really lovely touch. The food was theatrical but also incredibly skilful. I felt like this was an incredibly skilled experienced chef/kitchen that knows food well enough to be able to play around, have some fun, show off a little and it was very much appreciated by me! I didn’t enjoy the marmite honey butter but I got the impression that didn’t matter at all. Everyone knows marmite is an ingredient people love or hate - so the confidence to be playful and creative with an ingredient like that was impressive. The butter is where the dislike of the food ends for me. The crab was lovely and delicate with a beautiful sweet pea purée. The haddock and eggs was incredibly rich and left me wanting more of the delicious tartar underneath. I could have devoured another bone marrow cracker too but it’s a good job I didn’t request this as I was stuffed by the end of the meal. I was not looking forward to a couple of things on the menu: - the mint choccy chip (apart from after eights, I’ve never enjoyed mint in sweet dishes). - the quail (was underwhelmed the last time I’d had it at a different restaurant). However, and this was the clincher, both courses blew me away - easily favourites of the evening. The praline like caramel hidden under that mint ice cream & chocolate was incredible and the quail was cooked to perfection - I really, really enjoyed it. Also, (this review is getting a little too long now, but this has to be said) the crème brûlée was easily the best one I’ve eaten anywhere by quite a mile. I can see why it was given 10/10/10! I’ve always found crème brûlée a little boring, but this one was crème of the crop pardon the pun - and not boring at all. My husband can’t eat fish and they accommodated this, replacing three fish dishes with a beetroot option, a cauliflower option and a lamb option. Thank you! The beetroot was particularly impressive - the sorbet encased in that beautiful cocoa butter, wow! All in all, a wonderful evening - the only disappointment being the cocktails and some of the options on the wine list seemed over priced. I personally couldn’t stomach paying double the regular cost of a pornstar martini and would have really enjoyed one before the meal. But hey ho, no other complaints from me. When I win the lottery, I will eat here on a regular basis 😃
