Disappointing first visit
A first visit for myself and my partner. We were told when we booked the table for 5.30 that we would have to vacate by 8pm that was fine however upon arriving at the restaurant we were told we had the table until 7.30pm the table we were shown to was next to the stairs leading to the toilets, as the restaurant was almost empty we asked to sit at a window table, this was granted but we were told we would have this table for 15 mins less than the other one. My partner was disappointed with the wine list especially the choice of whites but he made a selection, we also ordered the food as the same time knowing our time was limited. I ordered duck and pork rillettes and my partner the cuttlefish we did ask the waitress what one of the ingredients was in tne cuttlefish dish she didn’t know or said she didn’t know how to describe it but would get back to us with an answer, she didn’t. The wine we ordered was not available, we were told there’s not a bottle in the building, we chose another which arrived 30 minutes after we’d been seated along with the sourdough bread. Starters were interesting the cuttlefish was good, however the rillettes were just a mound of shredded greasy meat dumped onto a plate with gherkins and little toast to eat it with, I did have some bread left which I used with it, the texture was quite unpleasant much too fatty and greasy to enjoy, I couldn’t help thinking it could have been quenelled or at least moulded in a ring … I really don't want to say what the dollop looked like. On from starters to the main we had both ordered the Guinea fowl pie with sides, on arrival the pie looked good however when the pastry was broken into the biggest disappointment ever … I have never seen such a watery liquid in a pie the filling was sparse it was more like a watery soup with a pastry lid, then I realised why we have been given a soup spoon it’s the only way you could eat it. I didn’t know Jeremy Lee was the chef there but I did recognise his pictures from various TV stints … looking online at a chicken pie recipe of his it looked far superior to what he was serving in the restaurant. Service was very poor, no filling of glasses, not even asked how the main courses was. We sat with empty plates in front of us for a good fifteen minutes, when someone eventually came over to our table to fill wine glasses there was little left in the bottle, he asked how things were and my partner said no good but he would speak to the manager, to which the man said, “I am the manager” he listened as we relayed our disappointing experience and was extremely apologetic he offered to take the wine off the bill and encouraged us to choose dessert also on the house, I had a creme caramel with orange sauce it was ok nothing remarkable and my partner choose the chocolate dessert which he enjoyed. A very disappointing experience but it was somewhat redeemed by the managers intervention, he also removed the service charge from the bill which we would have asked to be taken off if he had not done so. He assured us that the service we had received was not typical to the restaurant and hoped we would revisit, sadly, it’s a case of once bitten twice shy we will not return as there are far too many better restaurants in London to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyLovely early evening supper, beautiful seasonal dishes, bistro style, soothing dining room. Pleasant staff.
I went with my wife on a Friday evening and we had an absolutely lovely time. Everything on the menu appealed and we thoroughly enjoyed the guinea fowl and skate. The food is straight forward with fine, well sourced ingredients and cooked beautifully. The dining room is very comfortable, classic bistro style, and decorated with fun art and good lighting. I enjoyed the contrast with the slightly hyper weekend atmosphere of Dean Street outside. Any faults were forgivable - the chocolate desert was a little too cold, and we were reminded that our table was needed back for the next guests a time too many. Can’t wait to go back to try some more of the menu next time we are up.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious treat in a special place
Absolutely the most wonderful Thursday lunch in Quo Vadis's lovely dining room. It was pouring with rain outside and the well-lit dining room has fabulous art to look at whilst waiting for my guest to arrive. Lovely, young and helpful staff. We had the most delicious skate wing in black butter with capers. My favourite dish in the world! Beautifully executed. For pudding we had the Iles Flottante and a lemon tart. Both really good. Met the great Jeremy Lee himself who was super friendly and chatty. Really rate this place. Do go. Its a Soho institution and all the staff care hugely that their diners are having a good time and enjoy their food and wine. I am tempted to join their private member's club, I like it here so much. This was my first visit for many years and I am thrilled at what I found. Well done Team Lee!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing and over priced
Disappointing and over priced. The menu is apparently changed daily but by 7pm there was no pork starter - it had been replaced with some dodgy ham with anchovy cream smothered all over it. Couldn't taste the ham at all and the cream was super rich and too much. Venison and prunes were just that. The meat wasn't tasty, except of black pepper and the prunes very dull. Waldorf salad was just cut up floury apple with walnuts, no dressing, no celery and £15! Ordered white wine which wasn't cold and were told that it'll cool down in the cooler but we'd already started eating so we asked for a different wine which got a disapproving look from the waiter. Red wine menu is disappointing - one or two available around the £40 mark but most are £60 upwards. We were also told they couldn't cook chips (which were on the menu).
Be the first to ReplyGood food, lovely staff.
Booked in early January for my birthday today. Given a cramped corner table. We asked to be moved, and we were relocated to a much better table. Food good, but our Waitress, Ayla, made our evening. She was great.
Be the first to ReplyArticulately and elegantly handled!
Quo Vadis' ambiance was articulately and elegantly handled! The idea was creative, and the meal was nicely prepared and had intriguing flavors. The menu is constantly changing and offers some fantastic traditional British cuisine, so you'll never get bored.
Be the first to ReplySadly underwhelming
Came here for a late lunch recently and was hoping that the food and ambience was going to live up to the reputation. Sadly, this wasn’t to be the case. The service was slow, taking at least 15 mins to get their attention for a drink order and the 2 floor staff were not sure about the menu. The food was a real disappointment. We had the salted mallard with picked prunes -there was no flavour coming from the duck and zero pickling in the prunes which were also dull and I can’t help but feel something was missing from the plate as if the kitchen forgotten to add something to lift the starter. My main course of hake with a herb sauce felt like a fancied up version of those frozen cod in parsley sauce you get in the freezer section. The eel sandwich worked but only due to the horseradish. My partner’s turkey and bacon pie was so dry - no sauce in the pie at all. Such a let down. When we walked in Jeremy Lee was sat signing books in the entrance and talking very loudly, but no “Hi, how are you” thanks for coming etc. All a massive let down for £180 for 2 people.
Be the first to ReplyOver-hyped
I had expected so much considering what I had heard about the restaurant but was so disappointed. Our waitress did not know the menu and so when we asked questions she had to ask her colleague. Her attentiveness was poor and we struggled to order drinks and the wine. The food is tasty, but I cannot say it was outstanding and therefore great value for money. I would say it's a little over-priced but so is much of London now. The restaurant itself is small and seems to act as a passage to other function rooms, with staff and guests constantly passing by our table. It may be a little piece of London's culinary history but I cannot say that I will be returning anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect
Absolutely perfect dining experience. Very attentive yet casual service, fantastic food and really interesting wines at a very accessible price point.
Be the first to ReplyHad a memorable lunch here. Highly recommended
Outstanding food and service. A huge treat. Highlight was probably the pumpkin, grilled radicchio, ricotta, pistachios & bread. Despite being a meat eater this was amazing. My colleague stated this was one of the best starters she had ever eaten! Second place went to the fennel cured cod, cavolo nero, anchovy, chilli & garlic The anchovy made the dish. Portions are huge! Will return

Food was OK but service was very bad. Not once asked was everything alright with our food. Waited far too long for our 1st drink and when we wanted a 2nd drink we could not get the attention of the staff to order one. We eventually gave up, did not have a desert due to being kept waiting. Asked for the bill and had absolutely no verbal interaction from the waitress who took our payment. I think to charge a service charge was a joke as the service was so bad!!!
Be the first to ReplyUpper Echelon experience
The moment you walk in you become aware that you are in a special place. Welcoming staff accommodate you promptly and without fuss. The space is airy and light and transports you to a magical plane. The service is attentive but reserved. The food exquisite - each dish beautifully balanced and flavoursome. The Dessert Menu is to die for. Quo Vadis deserves every plaudit it receives because it is an exceptional experience, and offers excellent value for money. You are made to feel that you are hugely valued by every member of staff. I will be back very , very soon
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service, pretentious, overpriced food
Terrible service and pretentious, overpriced food avoid. We went for an acoustic show and ordered some polenta starter thing for £8. It turned up and there were 2 polenta chips… 2. We were then offered olives as we said it was very poor value for money. Took absolutely forever to get a drink as well on one of the hottest days of the year…. Avoid this place like the plague.
Be the first to ReplyStunning restaurant that we stumbled upon
Stopped off at this lovely restaurant with a friend while attending a product launch at Avon around the corner , it was beautiful weather so we sat outside , staff were attentive and friendly. The food was fresh , tasty and well worth the money ! We had the ceaser salad without the chicken and courgettes with oil and mint, and a bottle of the Tuffolo wine of course which was was perfect ! Would visit again in the future
Be the first to ReplyFabulous lunch
Recommended by a friend who knows London dining well. Superb lunch. Smoked eel sandwich shared starter delicious Lamb sweetbreads were sensational. Marinated chicken salad expertly put together. Great wine list. Lived up to its reputation and then some.
Be the first to Replydelicious food and awesome server
We were here the other night and I think our server's name was Gus. He was very helpful and super knowledgeable about all parts of the menu, from the wine list, the artisanal bread and the food. Our food was delicious! it was not heavy or of overwheming size as can be at a lot of places. We enjoyed our dinner thoroughly. I would definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyJeremy must do better!
Wow, what a complete disappointment!
Actually cancelled another restaurant to eat here after reading some good reviews, however wasn't worth the visit! Bland food, sat at a table literally in the middle of the small dining room and felt uncomfortable.
Starter was a salsify pan fried, thus has no taste other than the mound of parmesan sprinkled over it.
The slow braised ox cheek was completely underwhelming, more of a slop, couldn't eat with a knife and fork as the 'jus' was literally as thin as water.
Won't rush back here!
British fare with modern flare
Been following QV’s chef, Jeremy Lee on Insta for a bit and liked the look and sound of the food. Standouts - smoked eel sandwich, cod roe on polenta, winter salad and fresh cod with bitter greens … and the sweet of ginger and marmalade pudding was excellent too. Service was unpretentious and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyHonest straightforward food cooked and presented with love
Honesty is something that's missing in the food industry a lot of the time whether it's buying haddock that turns out to be some other type of fish to hidden charges at quo vadis it's straightforward honesty with great cooking so tasty food
And reasonably priced for the excellent quality I would highly recommend it without any qualms whatsoever I particularly liked the smoked eel the chips were superb and I had a lovely atmosphere of course this is my third time been there but my first review
Very disappointing birthday treat for my daughter
We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant which we have visited before. We asked to be allowed to have a drink in the bar first and were told we couldn’t aas it was too busy. We were hurried through our meal and the restaurant was small, cramped and lacking atmosphere. I had said it was my daughter’s birthday when I booked and yet no special arrangements were made. The bill was nearly £400 for 4 of us and yet no one felt as if we had enjoyed the evening an the restaurant was deserted by 10.30. I would not return there.

Recently joined as a member so it was my first visit. Great relaxed atmosphere and the food and service was impeccable. It was what I would call old style dining, white tablecloths and a very unique menu to choose from. Don’t think you would get many of the dishes on many other menu’s in London.
Be the first to ReplyInnovation + creativity = success
Take a bow, the kitchen and front-of-house staff at Quo Vadis. It's a winning experience, for quality, professionalism and innovation.
One of the signature dishes - the smoked eel sandwich - is one of the most extraordinary courses you'll ever be served.
Face it, eel does not generally lend itself to being served between two slices of bread. But this creation, topped by a generous dollop of mustardy horseradish, is something else. It isn't easy to manhandle (bits fall out, and you do risk being covered in it), but it's an architectural masterpiece. Worth trying, if only once.
Our entire meal was a treat from start to finish. Even the reception was memorable, with a vast, unwieldy dried flower arrangement dominating the lobby.
A boulevardier and a dry martini to kick off, then - with a hearty Malbec for company - we swung into the courses; a hearty fillet steak for her, a cod/mussel/clam and herb combo for me. The accompanying chips were as good as chips can be; soft centre, crisp outer, full of flavour. Why can't all chips be like this?
What's good about QV is that the menu isn't so laden with options that you find yourself wavering, then wading. It makes sense to focus the chefs' skills on a limited number of dishes, and do those well. It's a regime others could and should follow.
It's not cheap. It doesn't pretend to be (pommes frites £6, fennel salad £6). But for a special meal, it's hard to beat. The service was good-humoured and efficient; impossible to fault. Our bill came to a smidgen over £100 a head, but we had the works. We really did.
The surroundings are great, and you stagger out into Soho feeling like you're a king and queen.
Wedding reception lunch
I have often walked by this gem but never eaten there. I had the pleasure of attending a wedding lunch here recently and had the most delicious Christmas inspired menu, everything was wonderful and I’ve never experienced roast potatoes so perfect 🤩
I truly hope to go back soon for a Sunday roast !!!
Quirky, Unique and a real pleasant surprise
Heard a lot about Quo Vadis and eventually managed to get there. From the outset it felt great from the warm welcome from Nancy to being served by Augusto, who’s knowledge on all things culinary and drink related was excellent and was a great help when it came to ordering our dishes. The food is excellent we had the Salsify in Parmesan to share and then starters of beetroot salad and the eel sandwich. We both had the pork chop for main and for dessert we had the almond tart and a chocolate tart. I would highly recommend you go hungry as the portion size are on the generous side. Also a lovely touch from Nancy was to show us the private dining area which we appreciated. Summing up this is a great place to eat and drink and we really look forward to returning.

When I could not decide between cream or custard with my meal, the waiter offered both. Truly, this “made my day”. Thank you a million times.
