A wonderful experience
This is a restaurant located in the center. Internally it presents itself as an elegant and silent place. They offer two menus: one surprise and one described in detail. I chose the surprise one and it was a fantastic experience: I found all the dishes innovative and delicious. I really appreciated the kindness, friendliness and professionalism of all the guys who served me: truly fantastic. I highly recommend it: this restaurant cannot disappoint you

Good location, big group, we took five dishes. The service was really good. The food was surprising, the lobster soup was wonderful. The boys liked the beef cheek, I was already a bit at the limits of my endurance.. It's not cheap, but I think the price-quality ratio is right.
Be the first to Replysuccess of the surprise menu
Very pleasant atmosphere, really charming staff. The chef's surprise menu is a real success, delicate dishes full of flavors. Small downside regarding the pairing between dishes and wines that we found a little below. We highly recommend this establishment.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, but the whole experience overpriced
As mentioned in the title - the whole experience feels a bit overpriced and it fails guest service. We started with an aperitive cocktail, that was served in a tiny glass with some ice, which we expected more from for € 13,-. While we were still drinking the aperitive, the waiter arrived at our table to serve the first glass of wine of our wine pairing with the 4 course menu. When we mentioned we hadn’t finished our aperitive and would like to wait with the first wine - he mentioned “I would prefer to serve the wine already, as it doesn’t matter for the wine and I want you to have your wine before we serve the first course…” OK - so we accepted. Again after our first course and we were still drinking our first wine he came again to serve the 2nd wine and when we asked him to wait until we finished that - he made the same comment and only when we said we are the guests and when we do not want our wine to be served yet and told him to tell the kitchen they should wait serving the 2nd course - he accepted and went away. It really felt crazy to have to tell this to a waiter in a restaurant where you would accept a better service. Also - very strange - our 1st course was meat with red wine, 2nd course was meat with red wine, 3rd course was fish with white wine…it might be the Finnish cuisine, but during my education at the Hotelschool I always learned not to serve white wine after red wine… 🤔 Anyway - the food was great - very nice taste, original flavors and nicely dressed on the plate. Wine pairing was ok too, but it is a pitty that all wines that were served came from the restaurants own vineyard - it would have been nice to drink other vineyards wine too.

The food was okay, but nothing I would recommend or want to eat again. Since the restaurant has high reviews and it is expensive I expected a lot more. The main course with white fish and some pasta made no sense. And the whole menu was in general ”a mess”. Nothing really fit together. The service was very good.
Be the first to ReplyA most delightful surprise
This restaurant features a "surprise menu". This is a two-bladed sword: You don't tell the customer what you will serve; he feels like an hostage at the mercy of your culinary vagrancy. And yet, the 5-courses (vegetarian) surprise I had the chance to take was an immersion into a world of pure culinary delight. Pure because the taste of raw ingredients is profoundly respected and conveyed impeccably . And delight, because the choice of taste associations (poached pear, cream with Taleggio cheese, roasted nuts ) matches the excellency of execution. Enough gibberish: try this restaurant before it gets unaffordable distinctions. Then you might not agree. Until you taste the nut-butter (beurre noisette) cream with Fleur de Sel.

Excellent food, ate a 5 course menu. Everything was wonderful, including the wine they had chosen for the food. Very pleasant service.
Be the first to ReplyImpromptu visit, expensive surprise.
From a foodie point of view, a five-star rating is the only choice. The food is excellent and the wine pairing is very well chosen. I find it necessary to subtract a star, however, because of the fact that the unsuspecting visitor is coerced into taking a whole menu of at least three and up to five courses. You cannot get à la carte here. Add to that the exorbitant prices for the wines, so that a visit here will set you back for a minimum of 100€ per person. Another star is lost because in spite of the already stellar pricing the staff — I strongly suspect this is not by accident — ends up charging the customer even more for the wines in the final bill than was advertised on the menu. Take my word for it when I say, as a sommelier, those four glasses of wine were good but NOT worth 12€ per glass.

We had the 3 course surprise menu and we were stoked it was all delicious, our waiter was lovely and although the restaurant was very busy he was very attentive and helpful. Brilliant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food - if you don't mind waiting
We had dinner in Ragu on Wednesday evening. This was our second visit here. Food was very good and wines worked perfectly. Extra credits to breads, they were absolutely fantastic. Service was good but very slow. We waited 45 minutes before getting our breads. And during the whole dinner we had to wait and wait. No matter how good the food the waiting makes it less exceptional. Too bad because food, wine and deco are really good at Ragu.

Desperate for a nourishing and satisfying meal after a long day of sightseeing, i chanced Ragu and was delighted. The three-course lunch was a perfect balance of satisfying, healthy, and exotic-- The salad and focaccia perfection could have stood alone although next came the generous-portion main dish perfectly spiced with red onion, hummus and tofu. The chocolate mouse that followed was better with the silken tofu than had it been dairy-rich, leaving me satisfied and not craving even coffee as a chaser. Hours later, i'm wondering whether i'll ever be hungry again and how to up the game when i return to my home kitchen. It's hard to imagine a meal being a disappointment coming from Ragu
Be the first to ReplyGood food but nothing more
Good Food however not so exciting. Ordered the wine package but was not impressed by the combinstion of wine and food. One of the mist disapointed thing was that the charged 5 € per peson for home made sparkling water. Im not sure i will come back to this place.

We had the 5 course surprise menu with accompanying wines. One of us had the vegan menu. All dishes were excellent; great combinations of food and flavor. All wines were Italian and very tasteful. Very recommendable!
Be the first to ReplyFine dining, could have more Scandinavian twist
We had the 4 course surprise menu with wine pairing. All was good, especially the tuna ceviche and the pea soup, the only thing we missed a bit was the Scandinavian twist. Of course all wines were Italian, but also the food (except for the ceviche)was more international / mediterranean than Scandinavian.
Be the first to ReplyA Michelin-guide restaurant that needs better wines
A Michelin-guide restaurant in Helsinki that would benefit of a better wine selection. Medium to bad service staff. The vegetarian alternative was awesome.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful food with excellent service
Traditional dishes with exceptional presentation and usually an interesting twist. We had the five course chefs surprise menu with bread basket, steak tartar, mackerel, lamb Ragu, arctic char and sorbet.
Be the first to ReplyEverything added up to a lovely evening
Great menu, lovely wine pairing, excellent service - all that you need for an excellent evening out. Also the restaurant set up and decoration helped to create a special evening.

Service 2/5. Basic etiquette rules are unknown in this place. Poor drinks / aperitif selection Atmosphere 2/5. Such a boring atmosphere at the restaurant caused by lack of illumination, people were just falling asleep. Food 3/5. Michelin is just a word nowadays :)

We found this place by simply looking for restaurants nearby to our hotel and boy am
I glad we did! We opted for the chefs menu, at recommendation of the staff, as it was the easiest way for them to make the entire meal 100% gluten free for my wife. The food was of an excellent standard, tasted delicious and was reasonably priced The restaurant was very comfortable and had a really good soundtrack! Very enjoyable dinner. The service was a little on the slow side, but that didn’t affect our evening, however if you were short on time that could be an issue. Would highly recommend!
Tasty food, slow service
I was part of a large group or 40 people. We had pre-ordered 3 course menu which was wonderful and portion sizes big enough! Well, the restaurant was full and we were many but still I got the feeling there were some problems with staff rushing around sometimes not knowing what to do.
Nevertheless, that was really not a big problem for our group. But for the review I must reduce one star for that.
Exellent restaurant. Chef’s menu were good choice. It was tasty mix Finnish and Italian style cooking.
Everything were perfect. Food was most delicious and personnel is very professional and kind. I will definetly go again to enjoy.

Excellent food with good and friendly service. Make sure you have time and preferably order the chef's menu with the wines.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely worth visiting when in Helsinki
We were pleasantly surprised with our visit at RAGU. The five servings were absolutely wonderful and the portions adequate and nicely presented. Different types of homemade bread is served complimentary and along with 4 types of spread it makes this restaurant worth visiting.
The restaurant was quite busy but our waitress made us feel welcome and the service was in general top class. Reservations are recommended.
Special occasion - and Ragu truly delivered
Dinner w/ my lovely wife without our beloved children - first time in about 2 years. So, I wanted to book a special place. And Ragu truly delivered!
Food: had the 4-course surprise menu. Very tasty. Fine dining but still 'down to earth' and sufficient quantity of food as well.
Service: friendly & relaxed but still polite. Sufficient, but not too long, explanations about food & wines.
Strong recommendation.
