Restaurant Hubert Sydney Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious Dinner
The food was amazing. I enjoyed everything from the bread to dessert. The best for me was the cheese soufflé and the steak. The live jazz band made the atmosphere more French. Expensive but worth a visit if you’re in the Sydney CBD.
Good food and live jazz but better for dates than business meeting
The restaurant is underground led by a long curvy staircase down into a dim dining hall. They have a live jazz band which lends an atmosphere during dining but if you are here for a business lunch then the music might be a bit distracting. The food is generally good. The entrées such as the kingfish sashimi, oysters and escargots were delicious. Bread was also delicious but they should have been served before the entrées. Mains were well executed - we had the sirloin and lamb chops. The lamb chops were from a superior cut but I find the sauce a bit too salty. It would have been better if the sauce were a bit more subtle. Service was generally good and friendly. Overall, quite a good experience but I found the music a bit too distracting for a business meal, although it would have been good for a date.
Nice place but way too expensive for what they offer
French restaurant. Very nice setting, great live jazz play, hard to get a table. The food is great, meat quality high, fish great. Excellent fries. Vast wine list but choices are limited n the end rather limited. They not only serve French good but also with the typical French manner and mood .. rather arrogant, chaotic with a lack of precision. Tremendously expensive for what they offer .. (especially the wines where the multiples are rather shocking).
Restaurant Hubert is alive and has soul. A lovely dinner
This restaurant has soul. My wife has a problem accessing by stairs, so a person leaving the restaurant by the front door guided her to the elevator and she arrived guided by the Maître D. That was just part of the allowance made for her accessibility. I had been able to read the menu online so had chosen in my mind, some of the dishes I would eat. I had escargot with XO butter and baguette. Very tasty way soaking up the sauce. My wife had the swimmer crab dish. My wife followed up with lamb, a quite large dish that I helped her with after my serve of Murray Cod. I had chosen side dishes too with kimchi and potatoes Desserts too were delicious. My wife had the Gateau au Chocolat, and I ordered the Tart Tatin aux Pommes. The wine list is comprehensive too, even the wines by the glass which we use if we are enjoying different meals. I thought the prices of the glasses were good and staff suggested a cross section of wines. I said at the start of this review, that the restaurant has soul. The people there were great. Sarah visited the table several times and saw us out. The entertainment is just another side, Jazz while we were there for our early sitting. I would love to think we could be back there soon
Hidden gem.
Down three flights of stairs to very French restaurant with trio jazz band. Plenty of tables plus bar area. They even have a multi seat theatre. Food good. We had boeuf bougenoin. Very good
Nice food
Nice French food. Splendid meal. The steak and fries are really good. Also liked the oysters and tartare. The service makes this place extra special.
Exceptional food and drinks
Exceptional place for good food and drinks. The atmosphere is amazing too - love the jazz. Restaurant Hubert is the place to be.
If you want French don’t go to Hubert
This is promoted as a French restaurant, nothing could be further from the truth. The atmosphere was decidedly un French , certainly not Parisian. The music could not have been further from France, and the sound level was intolerable. Then the steak with frites. The steak tasted of nothing and we suspected had been sous vided, the frites were soggy, the salad passable. The wait staff were efficient, but sympathetic when we pointed out the poor food. Perhaps the best part was the Shiraz.France is a long way from Sydney, a lot has been lost in a culinary sense.
Old fashioned jazz joint, but also very chic, worth the money
This is a great place for elegant dining. Delighted to see young crowd on a weekday night. Jazz group with singer was great. No elevator, down 2 flights of stairs. Very neat old jazz club. Great food. Many come dressed in an evening strapless dress and some wear whatever.
Excellent meal with great atmosphere
Excellent meal with wonderful raspy Jazz singer playing double bass. Gruyère soufflé for starters and passion fruit soufflé for dessert were the highlights particularly the wonderfully light and fluffy passion fruit soufflé. Great buzzy atmosphere. Really enjoyed a wonderful evening there. Merci!
Great food
The food is really good. Enjoyed the kingfish, oysters, prime beef tartare, escargot, cote de beouf and chicken fricassee.
Hidden gem…
Beautiful little restaurant. Very discreet. Beautiful decor. Service was excellent, food was delicious. Oysters were amazing. Loved the dirty martini and snails escargot. Live band was cute. Would definitely go back.
Excellent food, fabulous French vibes
Restaurant Hubert is simply magnifique! The vibe starts from the front doors and the wall of artwork and mini liquor bottles adorning the walls. The spiral stairs, red velvets and wood panels feels like a throwback to 1920s decadent Paris, it really sets up a dramatic scene as the jazz from the live band makes its presence known. Total lush. We celebrated a special birthday and Hubert exceeded every one of the high expectations we had from all the positive reviews. Our waiter ran through the venue and made recommendations and explained each dish in detail. We opted for the cheese soufflé and duck pate for starters. Both were exceptional, the duck pate was the best I’ve ever had. For mains we shared the house speciality chicken fricassee, sautéed greens and pommes frites. The chicken, oh my word, what a feast. It was amazing, buttery goodness, moist and just simply the best chicken ever. There was enough we had leftovers to take with us. The pommes frites were seasoned with seaweed salt and these elevated them to a whole other level. For dessert we had the passion fruit soufflé - again, absolutely delicious, light and airy and the perfect way to end a rich meal. The beverage list is massive - very impressive cocktails, wines and liquor. Can’t wait to go back!
Great venue, excellent staff and nice atmosphere
Recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. We had a very enjoyable dinner in a relaxed environment. The food throughout was of a high-quality with the two of us having very different choices of meals, (starters and main only). The restaurant environment was extremely nice and the staff were over high-quality insuring that we had everything we wanted at all times. We would definitely return again and would happily recommend it to anybody else in Sydney
Wonderful service and absolutely loved the vibe of both the
Wonderful service and absolutely loved the vibe of both the restaurant and the bar with a funky live jazz band setting the scene. But the food.... really not up to the standard expected of a $1,200 bill (half wine, half food) for four people. Steak tartare (my go to dish across the world) was not presented well, lacked flavour (could taste no capers or onion) and came without the raw yolk (which the maître d' advised was the Italian way, not the French way - which doesn't match my experience in France but anyway). First time I've left any (in this case, most of it) on my plate. My friends all had a try but weren't keen either. The oysters were sensational. The prawn and scallop terrine was coated in burnt breadcrumbs which completely ruined the flavour. The Cote de Boeuf rib eye was tasty but like the other reviewer discovered, was very chewy (and rare not medium rare as ordered - they would have taken it back if I'd requested but my friends didn't want to wait and I prefer rare anyway so was quietly happy ;)). The foie gras was superb. The Pommes Anna recommended by our super lovely waitress, were full of flavour with the miso buerre blanc. The sorbets for dessert were really good - probably my favourite dish of the night, which is unusual for me as I'm more of a savoury fan than sweet. All in all, very disappointing food, but the excellent ambiance and service made it an enjoyable night. Not sure I'd return unless they changed chef though. (Sorry chef but when commanding these prices, you need to bring your best game and not let food out that doesn't meet standard). Nb: I did give the feedback to the Maître d' who listened well and said he'd pass on the feedback. I hope he does as this place has everything else going for it and could quite easily become one of my favourite places to take Sydney visitors. On a side note: they kindly arranged a table for us at the bar when our 2-hour time limit was up which was welcomed as it would have felt a bit rushed if we were expected to leave the moment we'd completed the third course.
Just wrapping up a 1 month vacation.
The last 5 days of which were spent in Sydney. What a wonderful experience it has been. Love the city and the people. Hope we are able to experience more of Australia someday. A new friend suggested looking on YouTube for things to do in Sydney. It is much better than the guide book I bought. While searching YouTube I came across Janice Fung. Her recommendations of places to visit and eat were spot on. Am so glad I saw her review of Restaurant Hubert. It was our last night and we wanted something with beef. She said that the steaks in Australia are delicious. We had a huge brunch @ Sydney Fish Market, so a luscious steak dinner seemed like a bit too much, so I remembered her happy hour suggestion of Restaurant Hubert. We didn't plan it, but we arrived there @ about 4:45. There was a line outside. We were maybe the 30th in line. After seeing the line, I was hoping we would make the cut. We did!! It was truly one of the best burgers I have ever had. It was simple and so delicious. That is the 1st time I ever had gruyere cheese on a burger. Fantastic! I also tried the fried zucchini blossoms. It tasted like crispy tempura. We were seated @ the bar, and despite being extremely busy, he was so nice and helpful. He explained a couple of different drinks for me. I decided on the Negroni. It was my very 1st and 2nd! Delicious. All the staff were very nice and friendly. Restaurant Hubert is 20/10 in my opinion. Go early to make sure you get in. I think happy hour is only an hour 5-6 in the bar area. Am so glad we got in! It was a wonderful way to finish our last night of vacation and our last night in Sydney!

What's to say? This place is probably the hottest seat in Sydney (sorry, Quay). Excellent service, incredible food, and you have a live band...how's that's for ambiance?

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.

Reservations could be posted for a variety of reasons. Most likely, the person who secured the reservation can no longer attend - to avoid accruing a "no show" fee, they can find someone to take their place.
