Fabulous 2 Michelin star meal in this recently reopened refurbished restaurant
What a lunch! Beautifully decorated restaurant near london Bridge. Firstly the staff, all very friendly and attentive without being too attentive! Very knowledgeable Sommeliers and always a plus point when they pour the wine at the table. You aren’t given a menu beforehand but the restaurant is aware of any dietary restrictions. We started with the most delicious snacks, highlight being the rabbit sandwich. After a few courses of snacks we started on the meal with perfectly matching wines. The head chef served us a few of the courses as he added extras ie truffle and caviar to a couple of the dishes. Every course was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The duck main was the star of the meal. As we wound down to the palate cleanser and finally the dessert followed by treats it came to an end of a perfect meal! At the end we were given a copy of the menu and wines to take home. I think we were there nearly four hours!
Be the first to ReplyHighly sophisticated food worth its 2 Michelin stars
Creative, bold, unique, interesting, delicious! The dishes were highly sophisticated and it was evident that plenty of thought had gone into their development. The 'rabbit sandwich' canapé was lovely; a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness - a delicious meaty start to the meal. The chicken and oyster dish was great. Whilst it wasn't the most visually appealing of dishes, it was absolutely packed full of flavour and was a gorgeous, warm dish to have had on a cold January night. The cod with beurre blanc was sensational - one of my stand-out fish dishes. The fish was cooked well and it was delicious in every sense. The herb and fruit gels on the side added the appropriate amount of sweetness and acidity, which broke through the richness of the fish and beurre blanc, meaning you had a dish that was balanced and refined. Whilst I could see this dish was based on a French classic, I could clearly tell it was unique to the restaurant. On the whole, an excellent meal. The petit-fours were generous. Whilst some dishes could have offered more creativity, the taste was generally first-rate. The dishes here are highly original and the presentations are some of the coolest around - I doubt you'll find any other restaurant using a bowl made to look like a snail shell and serving an edible candle made from beef fat (this was a messy dish but pretty good!) At a price point of £225 per person, it is slightly overpriced in my opinion, especially when considering the prices at other 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants. However, I would be content to return.
Be the first to ReplyFood I cannot fault however…
First time here, we were so excited. It is certainly not what we were expecting when we walked in. A bit more relaxed than previous Michelin star establishments but that is fine. I must admit that I was surprised at how few tables there are in the restaurant. I enjoyed the eclectic playlist (ranging from Michael Jackson to Elvis to Fatboy Slim.) We ordered our drinks and unfortunately my husband did not receive the correct beer but oh well. I ordered a bottle of wine however my glass was taken away before the bottle had been finished. The main event, the food. No words to describe it. Absolute perfection. Each course blew us away and I genuinely mean that. I am a vegetarian and I was left speechless at how delicious each course was. The truffle custard crème brûlée OMG WOW. Also I have never had truffle in a dessert before. And the beef dripping candle for my husband - inspired!! Going back briefly to the service, there was a very long wait for our last course. So long in fact that we asked for the bill not realising the meal was not yet over. Other than these 2 little snags with service it was probably up there as one of the best meal experiences of our lives (behind Sat Bains in Nottingham.) Urge anyone to go here if you are a foodie. I am still dreaming of each course!!!!

I recently visited Story and was impressed with its approach to cuisine. Somehow the kitchen manages to push boundaries and be different to anywhere else in London yet remain familiar in texture or flavour, which can be nostalgic. Everything we ate was lovely, the staff were some of the friendliest I’ve encountered anywhere and the view of the shard at night is hard to beat. I will definitely return at some point in the future and I recommend anyone to dine here, certainly one of the best restaurants in the country.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional, superb. Brilliant.
We returned for the second time this year to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The food and service did not disappoint, I can only say exceptional in regards to both. We will be back. If your looking for somewhere genuinely special and truly original for a gastronomic experience look no further.
Be the first to ReplyReally great but somehow missing, although you won't be dissapointed.
The staff are great and the food should be too, given the description and ingredients. However several of them really failed to hit the mark, whilst others excelled. I rather get the impression that some standards have been allowed to slip. Otherwise a good M* tasting menu, about as good as any around.
Be the first to ReplyA faultless experience
This was one of our most enjoyable tasting menus we have done, at 10 courses it is a full experience and one not to be missed. The location itself is slightly different as it is in the middle of two roads and from the outside you would never guess it is a 2 star Michelin restaurant and one of London's finest at that. Once you step inside there is plenty of character and the place has been decorated really well. The place is very welcoming and staff relaxed but professional, making for the perfect setting to enjoy 10 amazing courses. Each course essentially tells a story of its own, hence the name of the restaurant, as each course is presented you learn what's behind it and why the chef came up with it, which just adds to the whole experience. It almost ruins the experience to know what to expect, there are surprises and at times when they serve a course you think it cannot be anything special, until you taste it and it truly is stunning. Restaurant Story is one of those rare places that not only matches expectations and its reputation but exceeds them. From superb service and food that excited and surprises its somewhere anyone who loves tasting menus has to try.

This was a birthday treat. The service is great and the food was very good. Overall a great experience (which you would expect give you are paying a very high price for this).

We were seriously thinking about looking for an alternative due to the reviews on here - Do NOT hesitate !! My partner and I have fine dined at serval places in London, and this is up there with the best If you walk into a two star London Michelin restaurant and say “it’s expensive” Derrr !!! Idiot !!! quality cost money !! - this is (at the time) a super cute intimate venue with 9 tables around with an open kitchen offering the most attentive visually interactive service I’ve experienced to date The staff were super attentive, knowledgeable about some finer details on the ingredients that popped in my mouth and standard of food worthy of those stars above the door My partner and I honestly had the most incredible experience and, at times, surprise of what was next on the “story”. Visual vs taste, surprise, & exceptional wine pairing matched with the staff’s ability to provide narrative to journey Honestly the bad reviews must have to come from extremely unfortunate individuals as we had the most exceptional, and memorial experience for my birthday Don’t be discouraged, let the stars speak for themselves as this is a truly incredible place
Be the first to ReplyAmazing place,Amazing decor,Amazing all!
We had waited for a while to get our booking "approved",my goodness was it worth the wait Fortunately we asked our RR associates to arrange a table for us and WoW! Was it worth it … Tom is an incredible chef and his team work like clockwork… producing culinary works of art… well done … if there is a god he ain’t a DJ…. He is a chef and his name is Tom

My husband went here with business colleagues and enjoyed it so when a special occasion came up (25th wedding) I suggested this - we got a table the next day at 1pm and the weather was lovely as we walked across Tower Bridge to a very unassuming single level wooden structure. Upon entering the lady at the desk was very welcoming and warm and we were shown to a table in front of the kitchen. We could see out as there is bi-fold doors across the entire front and I enjoyed watching the world go by. I liked they serve everybody tap water as they keep this regularly topped up and I don't like restaurants that try and keep selling you water. I was impressed they made a point of mentioning our anniversary and giving us a complimentary glass of champagne and a lovely letter. My husband drank beer and I had a cocktail. I would have liked to have been able to buy a glass of the billecart-salmon champagne as once I had tasted this I did not want to try anything else. The ten courses were all fab, I especially liked the snacks but did not like the potato ice cream far too salty but you can't please everybody all of the time. We left feeling very happy and I said to my husband don't tell me how much that cost whatever it was it was worth it.

Joined some friends for a birthday and it was really wonderful, great taste, modern and elegant and expensive, yes, but very worth it. I took some photos but should have taken more, we were blown away each time a plate was settled in front of us. Reservation is a must its hard to get a table.
Be the first to ReplyRude, greasy and poor attitude
The first thing we noticed was the attitude of the chef, he is very rude and very up himself. He reminded us of a greasy tattooed transport chef, especially how he barks out orders at his staff. The desert menu was very bland and this has not been changed for some times, reminded us of the Tescos Finest range, which is simply not good enough for a restaurant that proclaims to be so prestigious. All in all the chef should sorr his attitude out or look for another job in a Harvester restaurant as we feel he would fit in well in such an environment.
Be the first to Reply"Shocked, Sick and disappointed!!... HAIR - Michelin Stars/Staff??
SICK - Found a HAIR on the food!!! This made me feel sick and nauseous and i eventually threw up and had to leave the restaurant. SHOCKED at the fact that a male member of staff projected a snobbish manner towards us. DISAPPOINTED - I was charged the full amount including full service charge!!! I had a headache entering the restaurant but finding the hair in the food just turned my stomach resulting in me vomiting and having to leave
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience!
Amazing experience! Had the 10 course tasting menu with pairing - everything was faultless, the food was just so good, the pairings perfectly complemented and the service was impeccable. The price is on the high side but you know what you’re going to get before you go. I’d definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyVery average
Halfway though the story starts to get a bit disappointing. The dessert was pretty underwhelming. I wouldn’t hurry back.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing - perplexed about Michelin stars
Went to the Singapore pop-up of this restaurant and we were really disappointed. The food was generally okay but with flaws. For example, the rabbit sandwich was dry, the wagyu steak had huge globs of uncooked fat and the grated foie gras on the paddington bear was.... not really possible to eat - terrible waste. Singapore has incredible food options and this really didn't live up to local standards. The staff were nice, but overall a disappointing food experience. Please note that if it weren't for the price I'd have rated this 3/5. On a side note, I'll also take a moment to remark upon the fact that there was a list of music recommendations on the back of the menu provided by high-profile chefs - and by high profile chefs I mean famous white dudes. Because, they make up the majority of the population and are the only ones who can make nice food...? It's a shame not all people in high-profile positions take advantage of their influence to support diversity.
Be the first to ReplySingularly bad service, cancellation policy bordering on fraudulent and cruel
We reserved a table online: a special treat on a weekend to London. On the day, my wife felt ill. As a courtesy we called, a few hours ahead of time, to cancel our reservation. As they are always fully booked, this gives them a chance to give the table to other lucky customers. We were then told on the phone: We could not cancel. We would be charged $185 per person regardless of them giving the table to others, and irrespective of any illness. A farcical argument over the phone ensued. I had to remind myself that we are clients here, not subjects to some authoritarian bureaucracy. We were told that even cancelling three days in advance we would have been liable to paying 75£ per person. Oh, and if we had Covid we must show the UK certificate, and then they would allow us (foreign visitors on a tourist visit, btw.) to redeem the booking at a later date (still the cancellation was being charged). In fact the man then informed us that he was charging our credit card straight away. None of this (the compulsory meal at £185 per person, the cancellation policy etc.) was visible when we booked a table. We assumed standard 0-3 star restaurant cancelation policy: Any other time we cancelled a booking in advance, we were thanked for the courtesy. And I have never been charged a cancellation fee for a restaurant booking, anywhere ever. I can pass no judgement on the food or dining experience. Their reservation and booking policy, which is part of the service, is contemptuous. If you are that exclusive, don't allow bookings over regular online booking services where bookings NEVER come with such a monstrous charge. And train your staff to show some compassion over the phone when talking to a sick person calling in advance, out of courtesy, to spare the restaurant a no-show.

Have not been on TripAdvisor in a while, but had to come back online to leave this review. Enjoyed lunch today at Restaurant Story and it was a fantastic experience. My friend and I kept saying that it was dificult to choose a favorite dish, as each one that came out became our new favorite (we eventually settled on a snail dish being our favorite of all). My friend and I were also very impressed with the wine pairing, as there were wines we tasted that we weren't sure we liked but actually paired perfectly with the food.
Beyond the food though, the service was impeccable, with very friendly and knowledgeable staff who explained every dish and drink we had, and also gave us a great opportunity to meet and thank the head chef (Tom Phillips!) for a wonderful meal. Very highly recommended.
A Gorgeous Dining Experience
Excellent food beautifully presented with exceptional service.
The story felt a little forced at times but it was a genuine fine dining experience and we had a lovely time. The price isn't for the fainthearted but you know that before you go!
Should be ashamed
I'm sure the food is excellent but assure you their customer service isn't.
One of our party tested positive for covid 76 hours before our reservation and so during the day I started to cancel anything planned over the next week.
Unfortunately it was 64 hours before I cancelled with them and fell foul of their 72 hour cancellation policy and so they would be making a charge.
They did say the deposit charge was redeemable should I rebook but feel that charging the deposit under such circumstances and days in advance shows an establishment with poor values.
If a 2 star Michelin restaurant can't fill a reservation 64 hours in advance then they obviously doubt themselves.
Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous!
We couldn't fault our experience! From the moment I emailed to book, to the end of the meal, our Story time was faultless.
The staff were attentive & nothing was too much trouble.
The menu was creative & the flavours matched beautifully.
Absolutely deserving of its two stars
Overpriced/Good not 2* food
The service in absolutely brilliant here. The best part about the restaurant by far.
The food is nice without doubt but really does not blow you away at all. I expected more invention considering they have 2 stars.
It's not overly filling. 7 course tasting menu and I could have still ate more.
The price is disgusting. We shared the drinks pairing as we wanted the full experience but couldn't justify having a whole drinks pairing each. We paid £92 in service charge alone. We happily paid this because the service was so good but it gives you an idea of how costly the meal was as a whole when you pay £92 service charge and share drinks.
This restaurant just isn't worth it.
A modern Michelin dining experience - will be difficult to top!
We visited in December 2021 to celebrate our anniversary. We booked Restaurant Story on the recommendation of friends but didn't have many expectations. To say we were blown away is an understatement, a month on and we still reminisce of the experience!
First impressions won us over - a modern, minimalist restaurant building, a warm welcome and on arriving at our table there was an envelope addressed to us with a letter to welcome us to the restaurant and wish us a happy anniversary.
It was so refreshing to be in a fine dining restaurant that had a very relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere and not exclusively full of 50+ age group. A modern playlist curated by other famous chefs was played as background music throughout the evening, at just the right volume to create a very relaxed atmosphere. You don't expect to hear Stormzy, MGMT, The Kooks and others in a Michelin restaurant but it worked really well.
The food was a set menu and not a single dish disappointed. The menu is presented as being tailored to individual tastes, however, everyone did appear to be having the same set menu with only a few tweaks made here and there. While the food is very creative, it is not so over the top that makes it hit or miss, unlike similar restaurants we've visited at this level - the flavours in each dish were mind blowing and everything was presented beautifully. The only minor criticism was I don't think that the "story" element of the menu came through that well. Some dishes were explained with a story, others not, it almost felt a little forced and unnecessary.
We opted for the drinks pairings which included the expected excellent wines and a welcome twist with some creative cocktails for some courses which was a fresh take.
The price is not for the faint hearted, but the service, food and environment made it the best dining experience we have ever had and fully intend to return!
Bedtime story..
Food was at most mediocre for the price paid. Flavours were underwhelming and nothing to shout about. Unfortunately, none of the dishes stood out for us. Albeit, the service was stellar. Spoiler alert - there’s no story…
