Recommended so had to try
Went with reservations on a Tuesday evening. Wanted to sit and have a drink, but rather than allow us to do that… we were told that we should order since food takes time for preparation: 30 minutes to be exact. We reluctantly ordered and to our surprise, the food came out almost immediately. The pastas were good, however, I would have chosen the pork over the snail. The snails taste much better in garlic and butter with bread. Overall, the setting itself was lovely with brick and wood. The food was good, but the service was not as great as other places. I felt rushed ordering drinks and food rather than being able to enjoy the experience.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
The food was very good but disappointed in the wine we were served for dinner. We only ordered a glass for each of us (5+oz - $15.00 p.gl.) and as we drank it, we noticed lots of sediments at the bottom. We told our server who only apologized. Not good for this upscale venue.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals ever! Highly recommend!
This restaurant was the highlight of our trip to Nashville! We ordered several small plates and a couple of pastas, and every dish was better than the last. The oxtail fusilli was honestly one of the best dishes I've ever tasted in my life. We'd made reservations the day before for a communal table and mentioned it was my husband's birthday. Upon arrival at the time of our reservation, we were seated immediately, and they had upgraded us to a private table. The service was prompt, and the server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We just wish we'd had more of an appetite to try some of the entrees and desserts. We will return on our next trip for sure!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious dinner and thank you Megan
Had a great experience in October 2023, made even better by our fabulous waitress Megan. Her recommendations were spot on (the chicken, agnolotti, beef tartare) and her service was so warm. Thank you, Megan!
Be the first to ReplyYou wont be disappointed.
We had dinner for a party of 4. Sat outside on a beautiful evening. Excellent meal, cocktails, and service by Savannah. The menu can be a bit confusing, but Savannah explained everything very clearly. Appetizers, entrees, and dessert were all excellent. The wine list was skewed to above $100/bottle. I think there should be a few more options below $100.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive
Ridiculously expensive for what we got. Food was good but not great. The rigatoni was an adequate serving, but not a generous serving and came with no sides. Not even bread, which was good, but cost extra. Cocktails were very expensive.
Be the first to ReplyWay better options in Nash!
So disappointed. We had wanted to try this restaurant for a while, and were excited to finally get a reservation. The wine list is limited and expensive, virtually nothing under $100. The food was just average. The watermelon appetizer was literally a slice of watermelon with some nuts thrown on top, not at all interesting or creative, though praised by the server (who was quite aloof and perhaps even condescending.) The pasta portions were ridiculously small, and while somewhat tasty, not at all worthy of the hype. Go to Luogo instead, the food is delicious and the service and atmosphere is top notch. Or just swing around the block to 5th and Taylor. We've spent a lot of time dining in Nashville, and this one rates pretty low on our list.
Be the first to ReplyBest chicken dish in Nashville!
Outstanding dinner tonight at Rolf and Daughters. We dined at the bar and chatted with Tanner. I had the chicken and my husband got the pasta with pork ragu, both were excellent!
Be the first to ReplyCan’t go back soon enough
We had high hopes for this place based upon reviews and the history, but we rarely have our expectations exceeded as much as we did with this service… Sat at the bar and had the team help us narrow down to several dishes. Scallop crudo, sourdough bread, tomato tart all amazing. We now crave watermelon with cashews, fish sauce and Thai lime dressing…just so good. We had heard that the chef was “put on this earth to make pasta “ and with the cecamariti and linguine with mussels…we are believers. The cocktails were made right in front of us and were equally impressive. Nashville has good food, and we have had a lot of it…this is in the top of the top for what it’s worth. Will be coming back soon.
Be the first to ReplyUnimpressive and pricey wine selection
Beautifully decorated bar. The food was very good but pricey. The wine was a massive disappointment and takes away from the food experience. The wines were very expensive and ordinary. I suggest bringing your own wines, if that is an option. We spent far too much money for the experience.
Be the first to ReplyGood meal
My husband and I had a very nice meal at Rolf & Daughters while visiting Nashville. The atmosphere is appealing and the food and service were good, though not exceptional. Our favorite part of the meal was making friends with another diner at the next table.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Dinner
A lovely place with a small but good fresh menu's. We loved the appetizers and they catered well to Vegetarian preferences for a couple of the guests. The desserts were not so great. Also, we had informed them that this would be a birthday celebration, there was no mention or special attention given to this.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but mediocre service
The food is good, but the entire reservation process was difficult because they left us on a wait list until last minute. They need to improve this method. The servers are not the nicest either. Overall, we enjoyed it though.
Be the first to ReplyCancelled my 34th Wedding anniversary dinner, Patrons Beware!!!
I have dined at this restaurant numerous times, and chose the restaurant for my 34th wedding anniversary. Reservations in place, after a lot of work, could only find a 5:00PM bar for two, but I locked and loaded. Received a confirmation text at 12:15 on the day of the reservation, then at 1 PM, 4 hours before the reservation and 45 minute later, I got a call informing me the reservation was cancelled. No alternatives, or suggestions were offered, just cancel your reservation, the restaurant would be closed. I was left with no alternatives and few restaurant reservations available due to the holiday season.
Shame on you Rolf and Daughters, also patrons beware, do not depend on this restaurant for significant events or dependable dining.
5 of us really enjoyed our dinner
There were five of us for a casual dinner including one vegetarian. We shared dishes
The steak was amazing as were the sized
Service was great and nice spirits list
It was packed on a Sunday night
Would definitely come back
Truly an experience
From the moment you arrive, the staff makes you feel special. This was the best meal we enjoyed in Nashville, hands down. Upscale, genuinely delicious food made with a combination of flavors that blended together perfectly. A must stop for an upscale Nashville experience.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely a must try!
We could not get a reservation so we went early and sat at the bar. My wife and I don’t mind eating at a bar so we were happy to sit right
away. We were fortunate to have Branson wait on us. His serine was top notch and his personality was superb! On to the food. The menu is set up to select first course salad type plates, middle course is a protein and 3rd course is a pasta. OMG, the hits just kept coming! The food was unique and spectacular! Can’t say enough about this place! It’s a must visit!
A perfect evening of ambiance and great food
Ate at the bar and had wonderful service with the very warm Branson. His kindness made the evening. Food was fantastic- we each had a salad and a main- my chicken was the best ever as was her pasta.
Pricey but worth it!
If I had to find a fault it would be the wine list. Very very few choices by the glass. We did order a bottle and enjoyed it immensely. Walked from our downtown hotel through Bicentennial Park, fascinating educational displays and quotes about TN history along the granite for blocks. Ubered back, as walking at night seemed unwise.
Fantastic pasta and small plates
Rolf & Daughters was recommended to my husband and I by a client of his when they found out we were going to Nashville for a long weekend getaway. We were late making reservations so we were booked for a 5:15 dinner - much earlier than we like to eat, but it allowed for cocktail time elsewhere afterwards. We started with two small plates - the beef tartare with black garlic on Danish rye bread and the Fioretto cauliflower and broccoli with tonnato, yuzu, and crab roe. The texture of the tartare was lovely on top of the chewy rye bread. The cauliflower and broccoli small plate wasn't something we'd planned to order, but our server talked us into it and we are SO glad they did! It had the perfect balance of flavors and textures - I could have easily eaten more.
For our main dishes, my husband had the Bucatini with mussels, saffron, chili, and bottarga breadcrumbs and I had the Maltagliati with chanterelles, fennel, and aged parmesan. Both dishes featured perfectly al dente pasta with just the right amount of accompaniments - the pasta was truly the star of both dishes.
Finally, knowing we were going out for cocktails after dinner, we opted for mocktails and weren't disappointed in the slightest. The bartender made us fantastic drinks with ginger, mint, and citrus juices that were absolutely fantastic and so refreshing! If Rolf & Daughters isn't on your Nashville eats list - it should be!
Small portions. Unfriendly staff
In short, we didn’t expect such a small entree portion (the same size as the starter). See pics. (Each portion could fit into one of their cocktail glasses. The entree as well) We never touched the entree and asked for it to be removed from our bill. Erica came and said they don’t do that. Then she dropped the bill and a to go box. Then we were ignored for 17 minutes, even though Erica walked past our table 4 different times. Asked to speak to a manager & Kelly took it off.
Conclusion: Just go to Earnest Bar & Hideaway. It’s the better version. You’ll get more attention. Better portion sizes. And better cocktails.
Full story:
We went to Rolf & Daughters on a Thursday evening, we initially met Erica with the pig tails at the host stand. She alone ruined our experience.
After making a reservation online, she informed us that we hadn’t actually made a reservation, but had simply been added to a waitlist. So apparently do not book online. They don’t use Opentable but Top as reservation/seating management system. Which is not the norm in Nashville. Despite being obviously understaffed, seeing Kelly the GM with the up do bun running food and Erica (she told me she is a manager as well) bussing patio tables, we did not feel ignored at all...yet.
Jack with the mustache our server, having at least 5 or 6 tables, promptly got us our drinks and food. We had a mezcal elixir that was delicious & a reposado tequila cocktail that was as well. Plus two other cocktails, those two were alright. Jack enlightened us to what we dishes we’d enjoy. So we got them. The sourdough, delicata squash, fioretto cauliflower, & spaghetti. 3 starters and an entree. Though the starters were small (not the sourdough), who cares, they’re starters. We got the entree and were immediately puzzled. It’s the same size as the starters. We discussed, and decided we didn’t want entree. It looked to have 2 cherub tomatoes, 2 mint leaves, some lemon zest bread crumbs, and maybe a cup of noodles.
We asked Jack is this the normal portion size & he said yes but paused, then asked us to wait. That’s the last time we interacted with Jack.
Erica came out and we told her, this is not what we expected, we don’t want it at all, can you take it off our bill and we will take the check. She told they don’t take food off bills. Made a snarky comment about vegans, Then left. After 14 minutes she came back and dropped the bill with a to go box made another shady comment and left. We were ignored by Jack & Erica for the next 17 minutes while they each passed our table and looked at us at least 3 times a piece (4 times in the case of Erica). Jack clearly wanted no parts of the interaction any longer. And Erica perused our position from a distance as if ensuring we did not walk out. My partner went to their car to grab something and that’s when Erica finally stopped by the table to inquire further (are you guys gonna pay the bill?), I asked to speak to a manager, she informed she was in fact a manager, so I asked to speak to a different one.
Kelly (I believe that’s her name) came to the table promptly. We had a real conversation with her. She informed us that the entree is 4.5 oz before cooking & 6.5 oz after cooking. In situations where they feel they’ve done nothing wrong, they usually don’t adjust checks. Lastly she said for future reference, please know that these are the portion sizes. Then she took the food off the bill and we paid cash, tipped handsomely & blew that popsicle stick.
Kelly is cool
Jack is cool
Erica singlehandedly made us wish we never came.
Rarely leave reviews, and I can’t remember the last time I left a negative one. I’m pretty sure this is the only one in years. Do with that what you will
Everything is perfect
An all around great experience. Our server was great and so helpful. The food is inventive but also really good. The music playlist just added to the great night. Can’t wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good...
We saw several recommendations for this place and decided to give it a try. The server was cold and condescending at the beginning, but seemed to warm up a little by the end of our meal. The food was the opposite. Sourdough with seaweed butter, burrata, agnolotti, and rigatoni were all good.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting Meal
Our selection for dinner was based on the great reviews from Yelp and TripAdvisor. We wanted something different, and we really enjoy Italian food. Reservations are required.
We order Sour Dough w/seaweed butter and Beef tartare w/green garlic and kohlrabi to start. The homemade bread was tender on the inside and had a crusty edge. Delicious. I really liked the seaweed butter. It didn’t scream seaweed, but it had a slightly earthy flavor. Hubby couldn’t tell much difference, but he ate it all. The tartare was served on bread with the sauce and kohlrabi. I didn’t know what kohlrabi was. It was a flat, firm, white piece underneath the tartar. It must be cut with a sharp knife. The look of it reminded me of watercress.
I looked it up: It is part of the cabbage family and is often called a German turnip or cabbage turnip. It was good. For dinner we chose the pasteurized chicken in a lemon garlic sauce and the Agnolotti pasta. This pasta looks like a small square ravioli and was filled with ricotta cheese and onion with a parmesan and almond sauce. The pasta was scrumptious. The filling was so smooth with occasional spring onion tasted. The sauce just made each bite so tasty. This was my favorite dish of the night. The chicken was moist, flavorful, and also sauced well. Overall, this was a great dinner.
