Enjoyable experience
Bit of retail therapy followed by lunch at Rouge. We enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for our meal, had the two course menu. The chicken was fine, if a little tough and apple tart and ice cream delicious. I wish I’d asked the name of the waitress as she was charming, made us smile every time she spoke to us. We didn’t wait long for our food and will certainly come again in our next shopping trip.

Haven’t been here for a while so was looking forward to the French toast for breakfast. It consisted of two of the smallest triangles of bread I have ever seen with a handful of fruit. It tasted nice but disgusting for the price they charged. All I can say is don’t have the French toast if you are hungry..
Be the first to ReplyGreat breakfast
Came here for breakfast on a day shopping with my sister and as the weather was so lovely we sat outside in the sun! We were attended to immediately and drinks orders taken, quickly delivered and the waiter was lovely and friendly. My sister had a croissant and I had avocado on toast and both breakfasts were fantastic and set us up for a day of shopping! Would definitely recommend and would come back next time I’m in Birmingham!
Be the first to ReplyOvercooked Burgers!
My friend and I went to cafe rouge in the Bullring Birmingham on Friday 28 April because as a regular customer I had been sent a voucher for two for one mains this weekend. We bought a bottle of wine and decided to have the beef burgers with salad. Both of our burgers were totally over cooked and possibly re warmed! We had to eat it with a knife and fork! We tried to pick it up but there was so much melted cheese that it slid around as we tried to eat it and also being dry and tough couldn’t bite it easily. It was so messy. The salad was mostly spinach leaves with a few rocket leaves, one tiny tomato and a few bits of cucumber and onion. We were given a discount off our bill but that is not the point. We are both in our seventies and don’t get out too often, we went for a nice relaxing meal and ended up disappointed and embarrassed.
Be the first to ReplyOut of the Grey and into the Rouge!
In the olden days we were very regular visitors to the Rouge (there more than the staff on occasions!) though with one thing and another visits have been limited in recent times. For an early mothers day treat we decided to take mother to do a bit of shopping and revisit our old haunts and booked a surprise table at the Rouge! So on a wet March afternoon in Birmingham it was a welcome relief to be back in the old place - warm and inviting - out of the grey and into the Rouge! The restaurant has fared well in the time since our last visit and it was good to see the family favourites still on the menu - so garlic prawns it was for me and mother (and back to de-shelling duties for mothers prawns with fingerprints melted off in the process!) and sister went for the calamari - perfectly cooked.. Steaks for mains with mussels for sister, again all perfectly cooked and washed down with a very nice red! The absolute joy was the service we had throughout - Irina and the team made it feel like going home, like meeting up with old friends though also like we had never been away! The perfect place to spend an afternoon catching up with good food and great service - we shall not leave it so long again - promise!! Salute!
Be the first to ReplyLong wait for mediocre food
The menu looked promising for a lunch-date in Birmingham city centre. What we got was a very noisy restaurant with long waits for food — not just ours but everyone’s. My ‘Breton chicken’ was just a quarter of roast chicken on top of a glutinous sauce of mushrooms and other vegetables. Halved new potatoes were added to bulk it out. It had obviously been sitting under hot lights as the sauce was congealed. My friends chicken Caesar salad had very little salad and a dressing that lacked bite.

Thank you to our server Nicole, she was friendly and professional. She made our dining experience more enjoyable.

Absolutely brilliant! We arrived after breakfast serving time but they accommodated it! When they did, it came out exactly as it needed to taste. Everyone needs to go here at least once!
Be the first to ReplyThe French theme has well and truly gone!!
After visiting the Christmas Market in New Street, I wandered up the road to the Bullring only to find that Cafe Rouge had become "Rouge"! All the old French advertising signs had gone, along with the mirrors, cosy lighting and everything else that had made the place welcoming and given it a French charm! There wasn't a sign of the colour "rouge" or even pink, having been redecorated in grey, giving it the look of a canteen or a basic cafe! Whoever chose this scheme needs sacking before they ruin all the other branches! The menu was the same but the service was soo slow - my main course took nearly 30 minutes to appear and to try and catch the eye of a waiter was impossible! The food was OK but but I won't return to what was one of my favourite restaurants in Birmingham as it has lost the charm and ambiance of a French bistro and judging by the number of empty tables, other people seem to be giving it a miss too!
Be the first to ReplyCompletely ignored!
So, I entered the restaurant on the 23rd of December at 13:00. There were several empty tables. We waited to be seated, and no less than 3 waiters walked past, completely ignoring us. We continued to wait, until the same 3 waiters walked past several times, all the times ignoring us! I recommend that you look on the security cameras. We waiting a few more minutes before giving up and leaving! It used to be one of my favourite chains!

Cafe Rouge is one of my favourite restaurants, me and my family enjoyed the food and drinks , had a lovely time. Our server was Ksenia, and she did an amazing job, absolutely lovely and kind person. We would love to come back and bring our friends. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you for making people happy 🫶🏻
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing breakfast
Visited for a grand breakfast and I’ve got to say it was pathetic, I’m sure if it’s called grand it should be better than the normal breakfast, the plate was bigger, but tiny pot of beans, sausage that were like leather and obviously just been microwaved, the toast is a joke, it’s rock hard like a biscuit, the bacon again was like leather, it all must have been microwaved because it came in about 5 minutes and now I know why the place was virtually empty, the waiter looked everywhere except at us when taking the order as though he wasn’t interested, there’s so many places serving a far superior breakfast than here, I only tried here again as it had recently been refurbished, but never again, so with 2 poor and not so grand breakfasts and 2 drinks at around £26 for the bill id suggest spending the money elsewhere, it’s a shame as once we were regulars here but never again.

Enjoyed a perfect lunch with friends. The food was very tasty and the service was impeccable from Paulina. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Early Lunch
Great menus and a lovely environment but the excellent customer service would make us return when in Birmingham again. Paulina was exceptional as was James. A very enjoyable lunch, thank you.
Be the first to ReplyWondeful meal and setting- sitting putside
Super omelette and chips. The service was a little slow as it was busy. I sat in the sun and enjoyed a coffee with my meal. Really enjoyed and the staff were attentive and kind.
Will be returning soon. Location good close to the shops and market and other eateries. Toilets clean and all I all very good.
A fab place to meet friends.
We found Rouge a couple of months ago and have eaten there a number of times now. The menu is similar to that of Café Rouge, but better. Some of the old staff have moved there.
We have found all the staff welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The food has been consistently delicious and extremely good value.
We can’t recommend Rouge enough.
Busy but relaxing
Myself and 2 friends wanted a late afternoon meal and I suggested Rouge. There were no tables to seat 3 at the time, but they showed me to a table whilst one became available. When this happened I was shown to a table.
Staff very efficient in clearing empty tables and cleaned straightaway.
Good menu choice, even though a couple of items were not available - it was busy.
Three different meals were ordered and all were very good. There was a good choice of drinks, including none or low alcohol.
James, our main server, was extremely efficient and was ably supported by Nicole.
Will return.
New decor is little generic
Stopped for bite to eat around 4pm before a concert. We shared 2 sharing boards. Food was nice and presented well. New decor is nice and airy but not cozy like the old cafe rouge colours. Tables seemed slow to be cleared considering it wasn’t busy. Service was okay though. Nothing groundbreaking but a decent visit

Be the first to ReplyRude front of house
Birmingham city centre bullring venue has had a facelift since the last time I visited it, It looks really nice.
There is also a new person since I last visited who appears to maybe be the manager or front of house that asks you how many of you there are or if you have a booking.(For description purposes only, he appears to be a tall Asian/Arab man). Well he is very unpleasant! I asked if there were tables he said no come back in 30 mins which is fine, I was my normal friendly self so I asked his name politely and he replied with “don’t worry about my name, I’ll be here” with a rude tone and dismissive body language. To me that is arrogant, I went back as the people I was with wanted to eat there, but I won’t be back again.
The menu has changed some what, not sure why it had to change just because the aesthetics of the venue did, I could actually tolerate that part, but not that guy. He seemed to be very harsh and abrupt with an accusatory tone to the staff members that have been working there for years, as a customer for many years it’s very uncomfortable to watch him talk to the long standing staff like that. Get rid of him and his negative energy and cafe rouge Birmingham city centre will once again be a pleasant place to dine.
Such as a shame as I can tell he probably put on all the fake nice to get the job and he is making the whole company look terrible. Whoever hired him was clearly bamboozled! Your front of house should be polite and greet people warmly not put people off from ever returning!
