Everything from the greeting to appetizers then small plates main course and dessert was outstanding with excellent service. Oysters, chicken liver mousse, boar pate, yellowtail, squid, Japanese sweet potatoes, hen of woods mushrooms, green garlic risotto, lamb shoulder and roasted hanger beef. Table of 4 and we were stuffed because we ate every spec because everything was delicious. Napoleon desert was delicious too!!! Happy to spend money in this restaurant.

Great food and very friendly attentive service. Each bite was a pleasure. I'm so very glad we had dinner at this beautiful restaurant.

It's funny when I buy a gift card for a friend and I end up using it... no, I'm not that kind of guy. My thoughtful friend invited me join her and her mom for a weeknight early dinner here. It was our first time here and I was looking forward to this experience. I met the chef while shopping at the Ferry farmers' market and we've become friends. I started with a mocktail, the Persimmon chamomile punch (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IeedO8hVbC3dldYfG0z-cQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), which was fruity with a slight tang. From here, it was a journey of flavors. Here's what I tried: Snacks, all shared: 1. Yellowtail rillettes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uz73a5CJumQvyYlMGXkXsg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - This came with herbed cucumbers and crackers. The spread was delicious and the cucumbers contrasted the richness of the tuna very well. 2. Dungeness crab pave (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=imNqahqDtadqKx8hnZuq8w&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Served with a small dollop of spiced mayonnaise on top, this was my favorite of the small bites. This is one dish of the original dishes on the menu since the restaurant's opening. 3. Chilled prawns, off menu special (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=lMVB3tQ3oEj0hsSF2W-kkA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) -Served with a mayonnaise based sauce, the size of this impressive but it wasn't particularly memorable. Small plates, all shared: 4. Local tuna sashimi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=i2Q5RMBIE0DJEbZCUoUJig&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Served with golden sesame oil, hazelnut, pomelo, and celery, I enjoyed how the ingredients melded together. 5. Chilled spinach salad (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=kTLldT_tAS4SnadgHVEHXw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Sesame dressing, sorrel, Asian pear, and oro blanco grapefruit. Get this if you like bold flavors. 6. Hen of the Woods mushrooms "au poivre" (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=SlXpd3NW0spZERa2HOM3Vg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Another menu original, this was mixed with egg yolk and crushed potato. Main: 7. Duck confit (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bPM3HAj1ddb6K5DjXsnRcw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Crispy and slathered with a sauce that reminds me of l'orange (orange sauce) accompanied by baby carrots. I haven't had this in years and it brought back nice memories. Dessert: 8. Caramelized pineapple "Napoleon" (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Hy6V4OEsdZhjgzDjrqqFGQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - This came with lime mascarpone, lime confit, and coconut macaroon. With one partner being a renown and award-winning pastry chef, this was a must and rightfully so. The dining room was about half full when we arrived and steadily filled up as we enjoyed our meal. Trish (Patricia) was very helpful, friendly, and courteous in guiding us through our meal. It was seeing JP in the kitchen but he was too swamped to talk for long. Thank you for the meal bonuses and we'll catch up at the usual Saturday spot. Needless to say, looking forward to my next visit here.

An excellent (and higher-priced) French-influenced restaurant. The entrees we ordered were flawless - but some of the sides were disappointing (particularly the tempura, which was a little drier than I'd have liked). I ended up with a tuna tartare as a starter, but wish we'd have had the option of beef tartare; that's harder to find. I wasn't adventurous enough to try the pate. Service is that perfect visiting-occasionally-but-reading-the-vibe. I probably wouldn't return, given how many food options there are in the city. But it is a great neighborhood stop.

Best meal I have had in years - and Trish was an absolute pro, helping us choose dishes, great with bubbles selection and wine pairings, helpful order of presentation. The crab pave', the Hens, the lamb, broccolini and sunchokes were excellent, and we loved our desserts. I will come here again as soon as possible- it was an incredible evening.

Why? My hubby, me, and my father, all have birthdays one right after another. (Like literally three days in a row.) So it's easier to celebrate by having one big dinner. Looking around, we decided to try Routier. My dad used to own a french restaurant, so my fam has a soft spot for french food. If memory serves, my favs were the chicken liver mousse, caviar pave, and scallops. The mousse was creamy and savory. The caviar salty and decadent. The scallops were cooked nicely and tender. Service was fine. We were a big party so I always feel bad when it takes a while to decide on what to eat. But our server was nice and patient. (I will normally make a list and then tell the server everything. We do everything family style anyways.) They also put bday candles in all our desserts since there were three of us. Fun place for a bday dinner.

Perfect for a date or small celebration. And it's not that difficult to get a reservation yet!

My wife and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at Routier. It was a wonderful experience. We shared the Hen of the Woods Mushroom small plate. They were rich and delicious. My wife had the Sea Bass which was done perfectly with fantastic sunchokes. I had the Pork Collar Chop. It was one of the best pork chops I have had. We had to have the almond financiers for dessert as one of the restaurant's owners is a famous baker and owns the bakery across the street. They were quite a treat. We had a stellar bottle of French Chablis with dinner. Service was impeccable. The restaurant is not fancy, but everyone is very friendly and attentive. It is a very relaxed, but efficient vibe. If you found this restaurant in Paris, you would be thrilled. We look forward to going back soon.
Be the first to ReplyCertainly a place that we like to visit as the food is
Certainly a place that we like to visit as the food is generally excellent, and the staff incredibly on point. From the folks greeting you at the door to the people serving you and the kitchen staff The rustic boar pate was excellent. I would suggest eating the mustard with it. The sashimi dish was just beyond beyond good beyond amazing so fresh flavors, so awesome the star of the show whenever we come, though is always the hen of the woods dish if you close your eyes, you would not know you were eating a vegetable just out of this world The only thing I was disappointed in and I have never been disappointed in a dish, but my father-in-law both ordered the green garlic risotto. I would like to first start by saying I cook with a lot of garlic and a lot of shallots as well as onions, so I'm not shy about the flavor. The flavor in this dish was overpowering because it wasn't balanced. It was just all green garlic. There was no depth of flavor. No cream in is no richness to this dish, I politely sent it back and was letting my waiter know why I had the waiter. I gave the dish to came back and said she would like to join the conversation. She said she had taken the dish back to the kitchen and the chef had tried it, and said that it is as intended, which was disappointing, because the flavor was not the thing that was the worst part of this dish, the worst part of this green garlic risotto was it tasted like overcooked oatmeal it was mushy with no bite as a good risotto should have that chef said that's how they had intended. It is rather frightening. The gentleman next to me did not enjoy his either. He had words about the pate and I told him he should've had it with the mustard. I felt like the pate was excellent with the mustard. It balanced the dish he had not seen the mustard under the lettuce, I'm still giving this restaurant a five star review. I'm sure every restaurant has a dish that's not perfect although this risotto was bad for many reasons I still love this restaurant and all the other dishes.

Great spot for a date night! I got the pork collar chop and that was super delicious. The best part would hands down be the lemon opera cake though - highly recommend even if you're full.

Cute French restaurant with excellent food! We ordered extensively and have no regrets. Portions was great. You leave feeling like it was too little nor too much. Things we ordered: -Miyagi oyster special -Dungeness crab pave: this was a HIT. Much appreciation for the thinly sliced hasselback like potato base. So yum. -tuna sashimi: freshhhh -Hen of the woods: burst of umami. Perfection -crispy squid: perfectly crispyyyy -mushroom farro "risotto" with crispy kale and bacon: loved the flavors here! But a part of me wishes it was the real risotto. -duck confit: CRISPY SKIN. Ugh so good. Fall off the bone.l -pineapple napoleon: blown away by this as someone who does not care for napoleon at all. I liked this -chocolate mousse with coffee crumble: a tried and true fave of mine Service was attentive. Never had my glass empty. No complaints here. Would def go back. Appreciated how cute all the table ware and flatware was too.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I really enjoyed our meal at Routier.
Service was timely, friendly and insightful. She helped us work around a dairy allergy, pick great food, and decide on a dessert wine. The ambience was beautiful, like a cozy but not cramped French cafe. All the food was delicious and would particularly highlight the lamb, amazing braised texture.

Soooo good!!! The waiter Declan was really nice , very attentive, and friendly. The ambience was amazing and seats were comfortable. Lots of wine options. We had the roasted Sole and Beef bavette for the main course. Roasted sole was flavorful, I was worried the truffle would be too much but it was just the right amount. Definitely a dish you never forget. You also have to try the napoleon dessert!

Routier the absolute best place to have dinner, especially a work dinner! Flew into SF exhausted from Orange County, and my colleagues chose Routier as our spot to discuss our work initiatives. Let we say AMBIANCE!!! This place is super welcoming and cozy. The location of this place is EVERYTHING! The food is absolutely top tier, again I said top tier. The service was immaculate, and everyone was on their A game. The entire experience made me forget my travel exhaustion. Our medical executive team was extremely pleased with the service, food and of course the warm ambiance. -Suzy and the A Team!

What a great meal! Service, ambiance, and of course the fantastic food were all on point. This is a neighborhood gem. Get the crab pave, beef tartare special if available, tuna crudo, duck pate, and splurge with the bavette steak. You won't be disappointed. Dessert is also not to be missed.

We had our Valentine's dinner at Routier the weekend before Valentine's day. The ambiance was perfect. The restaurant feels cozy and warm, as though we were in France. Rick, our server, was very thoughtful and friendly.I wasn't familiar with Routier; we had never dined there. It was perfect for this evening. Upon arrival, we were greeted immediately, and we were guided to our table for two. The host and Rick were very thoughtful and friendly. We shared Dungeness Crab Pavé, Paté, Fennel Salad, Bay Scallops, and Lamb. My favorites were Crab Pavé and the Lamb; my wife enjoyed the Paté and the Fennel Salad. The wine pairing was excellent as well; we took recommendations from Rick. My wife had a glass of Roero Arneis, and I had a Bordeaux. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name. It was an excellent meal, and I would say that the cost-to-experience ratio was very fair.

Be the first to ReplyWent for an early Valentine's Day dinner.
Got the chicken liver pate, eggplant, pumpkin soup, squash risotto, and potato pave. Also got a carafe of rose, which was very reasonably priced and a nice addition to the meal. The chicken liver mousse was my favorite thing we got. It was super clean without andy offal flavor, and was served with a sweet jammy substance (maybe black currant?) and bread crisps. The portion was also quite large, as there were two large quenelles of mousse, so I would not recommend eating a full portion by yourself (though for better or for worse I did -- my dining companion is vegetarian). The eggplant was good but maybe my least favorite dish of the evening as it was a little one note with the creaminess of the cheese and sweetness of the sauce. The hen of the woods mushrooms with au poivre sauce (not pictured) were great. The mushrooms were cooked well and served as a great vehicle for the unbelievable sauce. The pumpkin soup was delicious. Super creamy and rich (a theme throughout this meal) and the pistachio praline was a brilliant addition. I don't know how they made a non-sweet praline, but it provided a nuttiness and nice textural component to the diah. Wouldn't say i got any lime though. The risotto was excellent, though I think i may have actually preferred the dish without the sweetness of the squash (though I can't say there's too many dishes with squash that I love). I was a bit disappointed with the potato pave. The layers weren't distinct in each block and there was a "home-frying" element to pave I couldn't quite place (perhaps the herbs in the potatoes?) but was slightly off putting. There's a similar potato preparation for the patatas bravas at Red Window at North Beach that I think was much more well done.Overall a fantastic meal. I think 6 dishes for two people (2 snacks, 3 small plates, one main) was slightly too much. Would recommend the chicken liver pate, mushrooms au poivre, squash risotto, and pumpkin soup. Wouldn't recommend the eggplant or the potato pave, though neither was bad. You may fall into a brief butter coma after a meal here :).

they have soy oil in fryer, grapeseed oil in mayo, and possibly other oils used.Made a res and got in early, nice corner booth spot upstairs.Of course since we were there at 5:30p service was all ours for a while, but even after it got full (within 30-45 min) service was still great. We had the crab pave, pumpkin soup, cod, sole, and mousse.Everything was delicious!Good blend of flavors, the chef even made the crisped potato for the pave specially to avoid soy oil for me. It was perfect.Every bite was yum, fresh ingredients, decent size portions, spotless clean bathroom, we had a great meal and experience. No photos as we just enjoyed eating the food!

Solid casual neighborhood bistro, almost feels like you're in an outer arrondissement. The dungeness crab pave was the standout, but the other dishes, while solid, were rather forgettable. Liked the flavors of the hen of the woods mushroom. Though they were decent, I was bored by fish and short ribs.We weren't fans of the dessert menu, as it was very mousse heavy, and we were hoping for more pastry-related desserts (love b. patisserie!). We did ask for an order of fresh madeleines.

3.5 stars. Good but not great. The crab pave and the halibut were the best but the rest were a bit disappointing or just ok. The eggplant was served cold which surprised me and was on the sour side. I was searching for the mushrooms in the risotto and the short rib was dry and tough. The desserts were the best part. I enjoyed the ambiance, service, and the meal but likely wouldn't go back if I had to pay as there are so many other places I need to try still. There wasn't anything special that would make me crave it.

If you're in the mood for French food, this is the place to go. We were a party of 6 and was seated upstairs. Upstairs felt very cozy and intimate with the capacity seating of not more than 20. We each ordered the set menu which included an appetizer, main course and dessert. Two salads were added and shared among us. Let me tell you. My tummy was undeniably, extremely happy! If you want a happy tummy, take it to Routier. To make the culinary experience better, the customer service was outstanding!
