I wish I could've given this place a 5/5.
I expected a 5/5 considering their sister restaurant, RPM steak was amazing. My table was placed right near the entrance at a corner table with barely any room. I can't even rate the ambiance of this place because I only experienced it from our little corner near the entrance. The waiter was nice, but the whole experience felt rushed. It felt like he was rushing to get us in and out of the restaurant and I didn't like that at all. We ordered the ricotta bread and octopus for appetizer and it was good. I've had more tender octopus but it wasn't bad. For main dishes we got rigatoni Ala vodka, spaghetti and meatballs, and eggplant parmesan. All very delicious. I'd be willing to give this place another chance since I did like the food. Hopefully I'm not feeling rushed out next time!

Has been my favorite Chicago Italian restaurant since I have been here over the past 10 years! Brussel spout salad and eggplant parmigiana is my favorites! The bread is also incredible. They also do very well with carry out and easy/fast with correct order every time for delivery services. Great ambiance and open late for the area. Never tried something I didn't love here!
Be the first to ReplyFinally tried to RPM.
The service and ambiance lived up to the hype. The staff know the menu well and are able to make excellent suggestions. We started with 2 appetizers the meatballs and truffled garlic bread. They went together well and the sauce was great for dipping the bread into. We tried the chicken Parmesan and a special on the menu. The server suggested the special to me over the lobster ravioli. The portions are good sized and you won't leave hungry. We passed on dessert as we were full. Will be back

they have the best happy hour ever! get there early, because the bar fills up. after happy hour my boyfriend and i moved to a table and had one of the best waiters we've ever had. so kind and attentive, his name was quinn (ask for him if you go here)

It was embarrassing as I had strongly recommended the restaurant based on a prior dinner I have had there. The recommendation was for a business dinner for colleagues who had flown in from NYC. It was a big disappointment. The food took an hour to arrive. It had been sitting under a warming lamp for a while as it was dried up and barely warm. The vesuvio was over cooked, dry and hard to cut through but drenched in cold oil. The pastas had flavor but cold. The service (seated in the corner booth by the bar) was horrible. She was inattentive, unhappy and lame. We ordered some great bottles of wine though. For my guests, who are accustomed to incredible Italian food in NYC, this was a disappointing experience. I hope that this was a one time thing and that it reverts to being great the next time (if there is one).
Be the first to ReplyRPM is always a solid option.
We were able to walk in for a quick bite before dinner. The server was attentive and down to earth. Not the best old fashioned I've had but still good by a means. Mama depandi's pomodoro is always a must!

I came here for a birthday dinner and the service was awesome. The ambiance was definitely upscale and felt very modern inside. I enjoyed the food as well, however, the portions were very small. I would eat here again but definitely expect very small portions. A person in our group ordered ravioli and was only served 4 raviolis.

The food here was incredible, there was nothing bad on the table. The meatballs, bruschetta, penne vodka, chicken vesuvio (to name a few) were all wonderful. The drinks were also very tasty, I had the paloma with clarified grapefruit which I'm still thinking about. I would certainly go back, and while I want to branch out and try different dishes, I would have a hard time straying from what I already know is so good. Our waiter did mention that you're meant to order your protein/main course and then a few pastas to share amongst the table because they're small portions - they are smaller portions than you're used to at an Italian American restaurant, but it wasn't as small as it sounded like it was going to be. Unless you're starving, you'd most likely be fine getting a pasta as your entree if you're sharing an appetizer (or stealing a few bites of someone else's main). The service was very good and our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a bit hard to hear each other even though it wasn't packed, we seemed to have been seated in a section of the restaurant that had more families and slightly more casual guests. We were clearly a family, but all adults and dressed up as we expected it to be fancier - but we also had an early reservation, so it makes sense that there would be more young families. Not a complaint, just an observation. Would rate 4.5 if I could!

This place is super, especially at happy hour at the bar! Great food, perfect priced portions, and really good drinks in a very sophisticated fun environment.

The table-side carbonara was fantastic! I ended a conference and needed some time to decompress and always find the best way to do that is with pasta-- will go back!!

Overall, I think this place was okay! Ambience and service were amazing but the food lacked a lot of flavor for me. I came in for a work trip so we had a private back room where they brought out family style plates and our own wine/ cocktails, which was a really cool experience! The service was amazing and they were beyond attentive, I may give them another try when I'm back in there area and able to try individual portion sized dishes to compare.
Be the first to ReplyBusy and hip vibe to dine in.
Service was great as well as the dishes. The only let down is when the check came and the restaurant tag on a 3% restaurant charge just because. Insult to injury I asked the server to remove the small charge since it's optional and they return the bill as is. Why would a nice beautiful restaurant tag on a random bottom line driven 3% charge.

Chicago has so many great Italian restaurants I never really considered RPM Italian and an option. Well, that was a mistake. Today was my first visit and it will definitely not be my last. I ordered the pasta carbonara. It was not only the best carbonara I have ever eaten it may have been the best pasta dish I have ever consumed.

Loved the truffled garlic bread paired with prime beef meatballs for app. Spicy king crab pasta is my favorite item on this menu. Also had charred pepperoni pizzette which is fine but nothing bc spectacular. Will likely find a different item for the table next time around.

We came there on Tuesday night and got the table immediately. I ordered scallops, those where ok, but I felt some Sean's there. Also it is noisy, so not great for conversation.
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good.
Service was very bad. We had reservations and got to the restaurant earlier in the evening. They sat us at a tiny high table right in the way of traffic in the bar. My uncle was constantly hit, shoved, leaned on, interrupted, and bumped by every drunk conversationalist and rude passerby with a backpack. It got to a point two drunk men came so far into our personal space they started leaning on our table. No one on staff said a word even when we mentioned the constant annoyance. Regardless, we spent a good amount of money ordering 2 entrees, 4 sides, 3 desserts, and mixed drinks. Once our dessert came out, while we were obviously eating and ordering more drinks, the manager came to visit us and ask us, "First of all, how did you enjoy your meals?" We responded, "The meals have been very good. We're still enjoying them." He responded, "Great! Well, we have a large party coming in and they are waiting on your table. Would you mind moving somewhere over there and we can help you transfer your food to one of those tables?" My uncle and I were surprised by this. We reluctantly agreed, under duress, and then he walked away. We both felt a little raw about it and asked someone to ask him to come back. Another manager came back informing us he was too busy. We didn't want to cause a scene but she insisted she could help. We explained that we didn't feel good about the conversation and how our dining experience wasn't nearly as important as anyone else's and how, at the very least, the manager could have made a gesture to at least act like he valued us a little. She offered to have us moved and then asked us if we would like drinks on her. At that point, I didn't even want my leftovers. Having not seen my uncle in years, we decided we weren't ready to end the night and decided to have another shot on her, but the whole scenario that got us there was just tacky. Very disappointing.

went for restaurant week - appetizers and dessert were phenomenal. entrees fell pretty flat but still enjoyable. service and ambiance were 10/10.

Great experience. Tonight was a sad failure. Long wait for our reservation. When my meal (just a simple Tuscan Chopped Salad) arrived it was missing basic ingredients. Getting our server's attention wasn't easy. I finally gave up and went home to eat part of a leftover cold sandwich. So disappointing for a "premiere Chicago restaurant ". Never again.

I went to RPM for a celebration with 12 people and all I can say is WOW- RPM exceeded all expectations! The food was phenomenal, specifically the meatball appetizers and the cacio e pepe. The spritz were incredible and came in fun glasses. The restaurant was packed and there were people waiting (thankfully we had reservations well in advance) but the entire staff was moving and working together to provide a great experience. It was great to see the managers pitching in and hustling to support their staff as well. We were seated at the high top tables in the bar area which was a perfect environment for our group and Javier, our server, was nothing short but AWESOME!! He was so attentive and made sure everyone was well taken care of at all times. Only complaint is that we were so full. HUGE thank you to the RPM team for making us feel like real VIPs!!

Had a delightful happy hour experience there! We reserved a table ahead of time in the bar- I believe that's where the HH deals are exclusively. It was a weekday and very busy. While the service staff is dressed formally, the guests dress code doesn't seem to matter- some folks were extremely casual, which surprised me a bit. We had a super attentive and professional server who never left me panicked that I wouldn't be able to get my second drink order in before the end of HH- Always an added bonus for that peace of mind! I had the Chianti and old fashioned and both were great. My wife got the seasonal spritz which she liked, but to me tasted like raspberry lemonade and was not my favorite. We ordered the fried mozzarella which was good, but the biggest of the mozzarella balls was still cold inside- not enough time in the fryer. The sauce was excellent though. I'll definitely come back because the mushroom arancini is calling my name!
Be the first to ReplyOverall not my favorite by any means.
Everything was very average and unimpressive.Restaurant overall looks nice but if you are unlucky enough to be seated by the restrooms, you'll be snaking and weaving past many many tables to get there. No sign for the place when you are outside the door which was wierd. The paloma was delicious, but man it'll cost you. Wine list is great and limoncello pour was generous. While the cocktail list was 4 drinks long, I'm sure their bartenders can whip up a good cocktail off menu if asked. The server was nice but did not know details of the food and when we needed a check, he disappeared. The parpadelle was small and all sun dried tomato and no short rib. Inflation really that bad huh...left hungry.
Be the first to ReplyThis was the most disappointing restaurant of my Chicago
This was the most disappointing restaurant of my Chicago trip, not because of the food, but because of the staff, especially the host. We had a reservation for RMP Italian at 7:30 PM with the VP of our company. Needless to say, it was an important reservation. We get to the place a bit before 7:30 and checked in. The host tells us that our table is almost ready and the people before us have their check. However, in my head, I am thinking there is no way that the party will leave soon since people like to chit chat and sit around after the check. Half an hour later, we ask the host again, and she keeps telling us, WITH A SIDE EYE AND ATTITUDE, that the table will be ready soon. I do not mind waiting but the fact that she gave us attitude especially when we were very nice in asking, that did not sit well with me. An HOUR later, we asked again, and the people were still at our table. At this point, we were pretty annoyed. There were no accommodations but plenty of sass from the host. We decide to go to the bar and grab drinks as we wait. An hour and 40 mins later, we finally got to our table. I am not going to review on the food because I cannot believe a fancy chain like RPM could be so unprofessional. I understand that it is no one's fault when there is a bottleneck but being able to deal with it in a reasonable and kind way is expected. Giving an attitude is not it.
