Fabulous View, Not-So-Hot Food
Four of us went to Si Si last night for dinner. First off the view is spectacular! Gorgeous looking out over the harbor. Probably the best restaurant view in the Hamptons. But get ready to pay for the view, and for an extremely overpriced but mediocre dinner. Steak $70 (none of us tried it), chicken which I ordered and which was very not-so-hot, lamb burger $34 (again not great, including fries with cold feta cheese crumbled on top...the most Greek touch they could manage?). Les and I shared a salad which was very nice, but 26 bucks? For a plain lettuce salad? Really? Apparently none of us felt we could afford dessert, so I cannot report. Suffice it to say that in my opinion, Si Si is just so so.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful spot, lukewarm food, bad service
We had a superior table outdoors on an especially pretty Sunday evening at sunset. The view was stunning and pleasant, and we were looking forward to a great dinner. Unfortunately our service was substandard. We ordered cocktails, but after waiting nearly 30 minutes for them, had to ask repeatedly for the waiter to bring them to the table. When they finally arrived, the martinis were only lukewarm and it was evident they had been sitting for a good while. The waiter, while not rude, was brusque and not particularly friendly. He insisted (and I mean insisted) that we order everything immediately or otherwise we’d be waiting “for a long time” because the restaurant was so busy. We complied, but asked that the appetizers and entrees please not arrive at the same time. He seemed put out by this. While the appetizers did arrive first, and were quite good, there was a long wait afterward for the entrees. When they finally arrived (averaging about $50 each) they were only lukewarm, obviously also having sat for a while before being brought to the table. The entrees (pastas and halibut) were tasty, but at these prices it’s unacceptable that they be presented cool. We didn’t bother to return them because it seemed futile to do so. We understand the current labor shortage and, accordingly, make appropriate allowances, but at these prices you expect a much better quality of service. If the restaurant cannot accommodate this many people, it should reduce the number of tables until it can serve them all properly. I would have to think about returning here again. With a tab for 4 people of over $700, I think there are better options which is a shame considering the lovely setting.
Be the first to ReplyUnpleasant dinner
A rather unfortunate experience at Si Si. Made a reservation for sunset and arrived on time on a Sunday evening but was given only an indoor table. When we requested for an outdoor table since there were many free ones we were told they had reservations to which our argument was that we had a reservation too, whats the difference between the rest of them and us. Then we were told wait for 30 mins and you'll be given an outdoor table, not sure what was going to change in 30 mins but we settled at our table and ordered our first round of drinks. Wait staff constantly came by for dinner orders and their tune changed when asked for an outdoor table citing very busy Sunday, no tables available for the next one hour when we were told we'll be given an outdoor table in 30 mins earlier when we were seated indoors. Never mind I understand plans change, so we informed them that we'll not be having dinner since we came to sit outside and enjoy dinner with a view but if they cannot accommodate no worries, we'll take our business elsewhere. Hold and behold in about 5 mins the hostess who sat us (been 40 mins now and sun is down, same hostess who sat us indoor but refused twice before to seat us outside) comes saying our outdoor table is ready! I like how the minute we said sorry we aren't ordering food indoor, our outdoor table magically arrives :) We move outside and enjoy a nice dinner. Food leaves lot of be desired, spicy rigatoni pasta has no calibrian chili in it at all and the lamb burger has no flavour. One thing to note here, we arent white. Only saving grace were the drinks and the view. Food and the attitude of the wait staff and hostess were terrible. Makes me think they want to cater to an audience of a certain ethnicity, which is fine, but might as well deny the rest of us at reservation stage itself saving all of us an unpleasant experience
Be the first to Reply60th Birthday Celebration
We had an incredible experience for my partner’s 60th birthday. The setting on the water and the amazing sunset view are worth the price of admission! Highlight of the evening was the sunset, halibut and the bartender who was our server. He really made the night memorable with his high-touch service.
Be the first to ReplyNewer Hampton-chic restaurant misses the mark
I have been here a few times and I keep wanting to have it get better than the previous time because it is a beautiful spot and the sunsets are gorgeous. But each time it turns out the same. Loud, chaotic and really boring. The food is ok, nothing amazing, the drinks are awful, and there are enormous numbers of people who work at the restaurant racing around and nothing seems to get done. We wait. The bread comes and no one has butter or olive oil. We have to ask. Substandard service, although the waiter was nice. The music was awful and the clientele seemed more interested in appearance than a restaurant experience. I think it is more a function of where the summer Hampton scene has evolved than with a real restaurant experience. I may try it once more later in the summer but would rather stay home and cook.
