"Hidden" because, at the time of our visit in early 2022, it shouldn't have been so easy to snag a table at one of the hottest restaurants in town, run by James Beard-nominated Chef Omar (finalist for Best Chef, Great Lakes Region, in 2022). Before the crowds finally catch wind of this place, make a trip down Gratiot for one of the best, most reasonably-priced meals in town. We visited on a Saturday night, ordering a tomato and goat cheese dip with fresh pita chips (the latter might be the best pita chip we've ever had... warm and fresh and spiced perfectly); a fried fish sandwich (they are known for their perfect fish fry, using local lake catch and a crispy but light crust); cauliflower soup; and a carrot and raisin tagine atop couscous (which, despite being fully vegetarian, packed a huge punch with taste, texture, and beauty). This was just enough for 2, but another dish could have been ordered. Their falafel (Omar's mom's recipe) is a popular order (on a menu that changes occasionally). A big pot of the Moroccan mint tea is also recommended (served by the staff, who are also a part of the restaurant's draw). Food and quality like this should be better supported, lest we lose it. Highly highly recommended. Say hi to Omar while you're there.
