It was a cute place with pretty good service and wine and tapas like options. The only downside was the server of our table asked us to leave in the middle of having dinner for another reservation although they never came. At this point, I doubt they even had that reservation.
Be the first to ReplyEveryone should be talking about this restaurant.
Going here for the first time was like instantly discovering a new favorite. They change the menu often, so it's worth coming back and checking their Instagram. The restaurant itself is small and narrow, with a bustling noise level, yet still intimate. My favorite dishes were the sweetbreads (shawarma spices, tahini, little gem) and johan crab (brussels sprouts, dashi, bread). I also liked the ora king salmon crudo. The muhammara dip was fun to have on the table too.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is a hidden gem of the lower east side.
I've been dying to try this place for a while and finally went with a friend a few days ago. We did get seated without a reservation but I highly recommend making one because right after us the wait for two went up to around an hour. The restaurant itself is VERY small and to get to the bathroom you even need to walk through the kitchen. It's quaint, but definitely hard to turn without hitting something.FOOD:Beef cheek croquette (5/5) - delicious way to start the meal. The meat was incredibly tender and the mustard added a well-needed acid to cut the richness of the meat. Roman gnocchi (5/5) - star of the night, so so good and an absolutely must-try. The lamb neck was impossibly tender and delicious and perfectly seasoned. The gnocchi, to my surprise, was actually one big gnocchi that you cut into. The gnocchi was chewy but not tough or sticky. Broccoli (4/5) - the broccoli was a little less cooked than I would have liked and I wish there was a little more but the sauce was delicious.Chicken liver toast (4/5) - weirdest complaint to have, but there was actually too much chicken liver for the toast! This was deceivingly a huge plate and I kind of got sick of the liver after a bit because there was so much. The liver itself was good and the bread was hot and fresh.
Be the first to ReplyVery good.
The beef heart au poivre with fries was fantastic as was the spring chicken. Pig face croquette with a little gem Caesar like salad was the top dish. Menu changed a lot so we will back but this place deserves more attention I think

Wonderful candlelit date night spot with small plates that are good for sharing.I decided to try this place after seeing it on the 2022 Bib Gourmand list and it did not disappoint. We had a reservation for 6:30, but were able to sit pretty much anywhere in the restaurant. It was already quite dark when we got there, and the dining area was entirely candlelit. We ended up sitting at one of the high tables, though they also have some seating at the bar and at normal tables. My date was vegetarian so we decided to share a few vegetarian dishes. The beet & le puy lentil was very fresh and topped with stracciatella. The mushroom boureka was my personal favorite. The mushroom was very warm and came inside a buttery pastry and topped with truffle. Last but not least, the jonah crab was served atop sourdough submerged in dashi and had a salty, 'fresh catch' taste. All of the dishes had pretty good portion sizes, though I wouldn't say it is somewhere to go if you're looking to stuff yourself. Some of the dishes may be unfamiliar if you haven't had much middle eastern / Isreali cuisine, but the staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had.Overall, very good food and cozy vibes that are perfect for a date or to catch up with a friend.

Excellent meals we've had from take out to lunch to now their dinner service. A bit pricy but every dish we've had you can tell there was a ton of thought and consideration to ingredients, texture, color, et al. Friendly attentive service. We sat at the bar seats which we enjoyed. For now this'll be a special occasion kind of spot, hopefully lunch or take out can be folded back in but a very welcome addition to the (imo) dreary food landscape of the LES.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic for lunch or dinner.
The best spreads and pita, natural wine selection, thoughtful menu and wonderful service.
Be the first to ReplyI was looking forward to trying this LES restaurant
I was looking forward to trying this LES restaurant offering $1 oysters & Happy Hour menu.. I was severely disappointed ordering the Jonah Crab entree which had a distasteful combination of sourdough ingredients.. the oysters also were small and not fresh. I sadly do not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyI find this place incredibly charming.
The vibe is new world mixed with old world. Innovative but comforting, neighborhoody but exotic. Admittedly, I would have never even visited if their menu weren't so interesting. I've only tried three food items so far, but they were all excellent and exciting.

Be the first to ReplyDelicious menu that changes seasonally.
We had the first taste of their summer menu and were delighted by our meal:-stuffed squash blossoms-pig's head croquettes-sweetbreads lettuce wraps-sardine and cucumber saladIt looks they got rid of their happy hour, but no matter. The food and service will delight you. They have seating inside and outside in a heated, covered parklet. Thanks for taking care of us, Guy and Henry!

We passed Sami & Susu and decided to make a reservation on the fly. We had never been to Sami & Susu before but from the outside, the place looked extremely cozy and intimate. We invited our friends who were visiting from upstate. Not sure what to expect, our expectations were low. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The ambiance of Sami & Susu is best described as a wine bar that serves phenomenal food. The place is small (cozy) so much so that to get to the bathroom you have to walk thru the kitchen- literally. It's kind of cool to see the chefs at work. There are two long tables where you can drink wine and apps and tables up front for more formal sit-down dinners. There was a nice energy in the restaurant. The crowd was a mix of other couples and friends either having a dinner date and/or drinking wine before moving onto the next hot spot. The service was great! Our server was knowledgeable on the menu options and gave us good wine/drink suggestions. The manager had greeted and inquired if we were in need of anything and how we felt about the food/drink. This was a well- welcomed touch, especially in a small restaurant where customers want to feel special and taken care of. I'd highly recommend Sami & Susu if your looking for a intimate dinner and/or grabbing some wine with friends in a cozy environment that gives off a cool vibe. I can't remember what we had ordered but I put in the photos as reference.
Be the first to ReplyI knew I loved Israeli food, but Sami & Susu has solidified
I knew I loved Israeli food, but Sami & Susu has solidified its place in my heart as a favorite cuisine. I thought I liked bourekas, but I didn't know I could love them until I had theirs filled with english peas & mascarpone, while my friends eyed the one with bacon, egg and cheese. I also thought I liked shakshuka, a brunch entree I've had dozens of times, but the cheese, cilantro, and tomatoes were so fresh and subtle I could imagine myself swimming in this dish every morning if I could. Figuratively, of course. With each visit I have to get over the adorable logo and name, which are inspired by an Israeli children's show, and squeeze into one of the few tables in their very cozy/tight space, already planning what I'll order during future visits. The menu is expansive enough that you'll likely find something to suit your palette, but when in a sandwich mood, the Tunisian, Egg Salad, and Sabich baguettes are each packed with flavor and made with a very fresh baguette. I appreciate the option to order half sandwich orders so you can try different kinds, which I've opted to do on more than one occasion. The aforementioned shakshuka is great, as is the salmon rice pilaf with a generous piece of perfectly roasted salmon on a bed of buttery rice, and the muhammara (red pepper walnut) dip with their fresh pita bread is a great item to pick on between bites of the larger entrees. I also love their coffee bar, having enjoyed great iced coffee and hot dirty chai lattes whenever the mood strikes, and it strikes often. Try making a rez if you go during their brunch rush. I think it's only a matter of time before they expand into a larger space so spread the gospel of amazing Israeli food.

Very cute little neighborhood cafe! Quite small so difficult to accomodate seating, but the food was fantastic! The avocado egg salad sandwich was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little coffee shop/cafe near the lower east side.
Staff is great, food is pretty good and coffee is on point. Definitely returning when I'm back in town.

This place is about to be renamed Sami & Susu & Laura with how much I'm going to be frequenting it. I'm going to live at this little cafe. The drinks are yum, the baked goods are BIG yum, the food is HUGE yum, but the service and community feel have got me hooked. Coming in here feels like coming home. I'm going to start treating Amir at the counter like he's my mother. He's going to hear all about my boy problems and good grades while I ask him for more snacks. The tunisian baguette was the coolest, most unique sandwich I've had in years. I do wish my mom packed me stuff like this for lunch, so the other kids would think I'm cool. It's got some salty tuna, and a lemony vibe, and perfectly boiled eggs. You don't really expect these things to all work as well as they do, but they're an absolute symphony together, and boy was I singing along. Can't wait to come back here for dinner! They do it all! It's a small, intimate space, so you better get over here before they start getting lines around the block to fight rabidly for a cute lil table.

Came here for the unique sandwiches and was not disappointed. The bread is great - crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, with a nice fermented flavor. I was the most curious about the Tunisian Baguette because it has everything that I like - salty tuna conserva, jammy eggs, crunchy arugula, and tangy pickles. It was just a very well-rounded sandwich with a beautiful presentation.
