I've been going to Sasabune for decades! When it was on
I've been going to Sasabune for decades! When it was on the westside and also Honolulu. The Glendale location does not disappoint! The same high quality sushi and exceptional service! The sushi is similar to the other locations, perhaps even better!!! They take great care in preparing and in the presentation of their sushi. If you have been lucky enough to have eaten at one of the other locations, you will be very pleased with the Glendale restaurant. The owner, Genjii, is extremely kind and put much into his restaurant. A very special experience if you are a true omakase snob. Highly recommend!!!! 10/10!!!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Valentine's day.
Not the most mind blowing omakase I've had but it's definitely very good for the price. The only thing keeping me from giving them an additional star is the baked mussel was nothing spectacular and felt out of place in the courses and the included dessert for Valentine's for an additional 30 dollars over their normal price at every tier was just lychee gelato I mean a matcha cake or something a bit more involved seemed to be more worth the up charge. Would return due to the affordability. Overall enjoyment of omakase I would recommend Sushi Enya or Sushi Zo if you planned in breaking the bank.

.. JUST GO ... haha. Everything was so good (especially the green tea ice cream at the end - although it's seasonal I believe). The service was so friendly. And it was a very casual ambiance (I mean it WAS lunch). The fish was tasty and yeah, I'll continue coming back :)
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi, but the decor could be better.
I don't like paying $150 for omakase and having to look at boxes of kitchen supplies sitting on chairs at the bar.

Overpriced Valentine's Day omakase! No a-la-cart for Valentine's day, omakase only. Regular omakase went from $110 to $150, Japanese omakase went from $150 to $180. They said there was special fish for the sushi and it came with a dessert compared to the regular menu. Fish was fresh but nothing really special. The additional dessert was just a small scoop of ice cream.
Be the first to ReplyThe original and still the best.
The standard all other omakase in LA should be compared to.
Be the first to ReplySuperb food.
It's just good, dude. If you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket or eating is your hobby, Omakase is worth the price. Lovely people. In the middle of Glendale. Pricey. Casual.
Be the first to ReplyI tried the lunch course which was comprised of a sashimi
I tried the lunch course which was comprised of a sashimi appetizer, chef's choice of 7 pieces of sushi, and a blue crab hand roll. My 7 pieces of sushi were tuna, red snapper, albacore, halibut (I think), butterfish, yellowtail, and salmon. Each nigiri was delicately crafted and flavored to highlight the fish whether it was with a housemade sauce or additional toppings. I even tried fresh wasabi which does not even remotely compare to the quality of your average wasabi that comes with each order. Last but not least was the blue crab hand roll. The chef came to the table to prepare it by hand and recommended that I eat it immediately to retain the crispness of the seaweed. It was a heavenly bite and I savored every second of it. I also had some of my boyfriend's chirashi bowl special which was smaller than expected but it came with a variety of sashimi with salad and miso soup. The highest Asian compliment one can receive for desserts is "not too sweet" and that's the first thing that came to mind when I tried the desserts. The sweet potato ice cream truly tastes like Japanese sweet potatoes that were frozen and churned into ice cream form. It was slightly gritty but not much sweeter than the original vegetable itself. As for the matcha cake, I want this for my birthday. It was velvety, rich in flavor, and the perfect way to end the meal. I've been in search of a good matcha cake for a long time and little did I know I would find it at a sushi restaurant tucked away on the third floor. The workers who served us were both polite and checked in on us often. It's a very intimate setting and we enjoyed our lunch.

Each dish was a work of art at Sasabune, showcasing the chef's mastery in combining flavors and textures. The attention to detail and creativity in presentation elevated the entire meal. Despite the high cost, the friendly and attentive staff added immeasurable value to the overall experience. Their warm demeanor and knowledge about the menu contributed to the pleasant atmosphere, making the dining venture even more enjoyable. In summary, if you find yourself with some extra budget to spare, I highly recommend treating yourself to the unique and upscale offerings at this Omakase -style sushi in Glendale. The combination of exceptional cuisine, sophisticated ambiance, and welcoming staff creates an unforgettable dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyI am very disappointed with the type of service and food
I am very disappointed with the type of service and food quality. We have been longtime customers of Sasabune, and last night, I ordered the Omakase sushi box via Uber Eats for my son. He got sick from eating the sushi and was throwing up all night, and he missed school today. I called the restaurant to let them know, but there was no apology, and all they said was, "Thank you for the call." What type of customer service was that?? I am not expecting you to credit me, but at least an apology. Is that a lot to ask? Anyhow, we won't be going there ever again.

I went to Sasabune for the first time the other day because of all the good reviews. My go to is Sushi Gen in little Tokyo but they're closed on Mondays and I decided to go here since it's closer to where I live. I was going back and forth about reviewing since the staff are so nice but feel compelled to.As people have mentioned it's not a restaurant you go to for the ambience yet it's clean and it's nice that there is a parking garage they validate. The host/waiter and waitress were very kind and attentive. When I got there, it was early enough so no wait as there was only one other table eating. I'm not sure if I went on an off night but the sushi was pretty bad except for the uni. I felt sick soon after I left and for the high price I expected super fresh high quality fish and seafood. As I mentioned the uni was good and I'd hope so for $25 for two pieces. While I did like how the sushi is prepared ~ nori on the outside and warm rice the tekka maki (tuna) didn't taste fresh and the crab roll was even worse. Was so fishy. Crab does usually have a slight fish taste but did not taste good. The salmon skin roll was ok but by the time that came out I did not have an appetite. Not sure how the rice is prepared but maybe they add an ingredient that didn't agree with me. I also ordered a miso soup which tasted like the instant kind, didn't taste as authentic of a broth and no tofu in it for $4.50. The green tea was ok. My total was $68 and with tip $80. It was definitely not worth it and I regret eating and spending my money there. I didn't feel comfortable giving them this feedback while there because I was sat right by the sushi bar and kitchen and with no other customers it felt a bit awkward for me to have all eyes from the chefs and wait staff on me.

Amazing authentic sushi place, up there with the best sushi I've ever had. Extremely expensive though.
Be the first to Reply5 star sushi.
It's as fresh as it gets. They have both Santa Barbara and Japanese uni. Try both!

Love everything about this place. We go every Thursday and go through withdrawals when we can't. Keep up the great work!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe most unwelcoming sushi bar in all of the San Gabriel
The most unwelcoming sushi bar in all of the San Gabriel Valley should be their motto The sushi is average and the chefs tonight had O presentation skills. They were cooking something like salmon skin and the restaurant smelled like smoke and my eyes hurt! I would never go back there and it was more expensive than sushi yuzu and not even close to the quality! Don't bother!!

My husband and I have been looking for a new sushi spot and SASABUNE is IT!! Amazing sushi, amazing service, amazing EVERYTHING. I HIGHLY recommend. We had the Omakase which was $150 per person and it was 10/10. SAKE was amazing as well. Not to mention it is super clean. We will be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a find! My daughter and I requested the omakase
What a find! My daughter and I requested the omakase (chef's choice) and were seated at the sushi bar. We were highly impressed with the care that goes into the preparation and creation of each individual offering. The quality of the fish is evident from the first look, and is confirmed by the first bite. This is among the best sushi I have ever tasted. The toro tuna was like butter--so velvety and delicious. The crab hand roll was packed with crab and had a very satisfying crunch from the seaweed. There was nothing in the order that I would not gladly eat again. The wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce are created in house, and are excellent. The service was outstanding; prompt without hovering. And extremely polite and friendly.Parking in the attached garage is easy (park on P3) and is validated.Treat yourself to this experience--it is well worth the money!
Be the first to ReplySasabune Glendale always holds a special place in my heart.
I love celebrating holidays and special occasions here and the food never disappoints.I love this location especially comparing to other stores on the west side cause it feels more quiet and private. 99% of the time I get the Japanese omakase and I'm always impressed by the food quality and presentation. I love how creative they are with the appetizers and the blue crab hand roll is just top notch. For me the experience worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent experience!!! Top quality omakase, friendly
Excellent experience!!! Top quality omakase, friendly service and all around authentic delicious meal!! $135/pp for the omakase meal and it was worth every single penny. Definitely recommend and will be back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyI came here on a Thursday afternoon and had the Japanese
I came here on a Thursday afternoon and had the Japanese Omakase. If seem like the meal would never end with plate after plate of amazing sushi. I think my absolute favorite was probably the sea urchin from Santa Barbara. Near the end of the course I did order another sea urchin from Japan, which had a more briny taste and was creamier but I felt the Santa Barbara see urchin had a more mild custard flavor that I really liked. What an amazing hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall right across from Olive Garden and CPK! I'm definitely looking forward to the next special occasion to come back here.
Be the first to ReplySo good sushi in the most nondescript building.
Didn't know this was in Glendale. I love the omakasa sets. Good value and yummy fish.

Chirashi Bowl Regular during lunch seemed rather petite at first glance but it packed a mighty punch of colorful protein over vinegared sushi rice. When the waiter placed this small plate in front of me, I thought: Oh, I guess I'll be mooching off of my partner's lunch. NOPE, it was the perfect amount. A wonderful variety of fresh fish was a decent value for $35. It also included a small salad and miso soup which wasn't much to write home about but were nice starters to the main event.Warning about the omakase: come extremely hungry! It seems deceivingly non stuffing but I've had to pass my sushi to my partner because sushi should never been taken home. Today my partner struggled to finish his omakase. Sasabune will provide a complimentary dessert on your birthday if ordered in advance. Today we had the black sesame cheesecake and the time before we had the green tea cheesecake. Both were pretty good. Wait service could have be better if there was a second waiter. I felt bad for the one kind server having to deal with multiple tables. Otherwise, Sasabune is our usual go to for sushi. We are so happy not to drive to the west side to enjoy quality sushi!
Be the first to ReplyI have been a Sasabune disciple since the smallHouse days
I have been a Sasabune disciple since the smallHouse days on Sawetelle. . . Ahh how I long for the days, gosh 30 Years ago easy .The food here is always sublime, hands down. But I must say, trying to visit the Glendale branch has been super super difficult.I now have been turned away 5 times as a single diner requesting the sushi bar. Not like oh in 30Minutes or can you be done in 30 minutes. Just plain , no sorry. It would not be so bad if the place was hoping busy, this is usually when the place is empty. . . I have given up. Better luck to you all. YMMV
