Serendib Milano Reviews from The Last Year
Not recommended for quality/price and service
Although the environment is overall pleasant, the service and value for money are really questionable. As regards the first, endless waits before being able to order and while waiting for the dishes, almost no waiter speaks Italian and it is therefore impossible to have information on what you are eating (considering that it is mostly a tasting menu, this would have its importance). As regards the quality-price ratio, the cost is decidedly higher than it should be, considering the food is monotonous, many dishes extremely similar to each other and the cheese nan which is probably really stuffed with thin slices (as already highlighted in some previous reviews ). I wouldn't go back, I wouldn't recommend it, although I'm a big fan of the genre
Exquisite lunch
Excellent food and courtesy. A Sri Lankan cuisine experience in the heart of Milan that we definitely recommend for its quality.
Relaxing
Very welcoming environment, excellent food, kind and courteous staff, the owner is very attentive to customer needs. Excellent value for money. We will be back
Never more
First and last experience. In summary: unspeakable dining room staff, terrible food which was also reheated and not freshly prepared, unwashed cutlery, prices inadequate for the quality of the food. I believe it is appropriate for the Michelin Guide to return to distinguishing the concept of "RESTAURANT" from that of "out of the way and unsigned motorway restaurant".
Serendib: happy discovery
The restaurant bears the ancient Sri Lankan name "Serendib" which means "to make happy": a very high expectation which did not disappoint us. The place is welcoming, the atmosphere very intimate and quiet, the cuisine offers typical Sri Lankan dishes very good, the taste is delicate and the use of spices is never invasive. We opted for the tasting menu to explore the various specialties. The only element to review, in my opinion, is the dessert. The natural apple pieces are decidedly uninteresting and the chickpea balls and the slice of cake are completely flavourful. The pineapple is always appreciated and the chocolate cream is discreet. Very friendly table service staff. Average prices.
Unacceptable
Personally not competent. We left a medical device on the table and they never found it again, only 15 minutes had passed. Unacceptable.
Rarely rude staff
Good food but terrible staff. At the end of dinner the waiter came and told us "Pay because it's late and you have to go". It wasn't even midnight and the restaurant was still full. I wanted to call the owner but my friend who had invited me for her birthday didn't want to. Not to go back again because the rudeness of the staff in a restaurant is unacceptable
Journey into the taste of Sri Lanka and India
This is the second time we eat at this restaurant. This time he really convinced us. We opt for 2 tasting menus (meat and vegetarian) which we recommend as a choice compared to the menu both for the quality-price ratio and for the complete experience. Both really good and tasty. Each menu consists of 10 courses: of which, for the first course, 4 different types of meat (I couldn't tell you which was the best); for the second course, variety of vegetables, some of which are flavored with coconut (special mention for the chickpeas in the starter and the lentil cream in the main course). The desserts are more particular but are still worth a try. Super friendly staff. Excellent value for money. It's worth the stop, it's really WOW!!!
Very pleasant surprise
To say that you eat well is an understatement. We entered curiously to have lunch and immediately found a typical and welcoming environment. We were pleased to see that there were many vegetarian dishes and we went for the tasting menu (vegan and vegetarian). We received many small (but substantial) bowls with different courses which in the end satisfy and satisfy just enough. . We couldn't stop saying 'how good, how good' while we ate. Very friendly staff and good price for what you eat. The teas are also excellent.
We'll be back!
Bellissimo is a characteristic restaurant serving typical Indian/Sri Lankan cuisine. We went for lunch during the week and opted for the single dish on the daily menu. Excellent food, very modest prices. We'll be back!!
Embarrassing!
Before starting the review, I would like to point out that it is the first time in my life that I have found myself having to make such a decision.. We had a reservation for 2 people at 8.15pm/8.30pm, upon our arrival we found ourselves queuing at the entrance (which was also very narrow) with a lot of people in front of us... which may be okay, I tell myself, it's Saturday evening. We wait while, from what I imagine is the owner, we are told: "1 minute and I'll seat you"... 5 minutes pass, 10 minutes pass, 15 minutes pass, 20 minutes pass and the only thing that we keep hearing the same litany: "1 minute and I'll seat you" the result is that after 30 minutes of waiting they finally let us sit (a table which was practically on the corridor, I didn't even have the chance to really see what the restaurant was like on the its interior so I don't feel like giving an aesthetic judgement). Well, I must say that I sat at the table quite annoyed by the long wait even though, I repeat, I had a reservation. Once seated, however, the problem does not change, we wait 5 minutes to receive the menu, we wait another 2/3 minutes to receive the wine list and after about 15 minutes the order for the drinks had not even been taken. It was the last straw, I decide to get up and leave... on the way out I pass the owner to whom I say: "We're leaving", in response I hear him ask: "Why?" and to my "45 minutes have passed and I haven't ordered yet" I receive neither an explanation nor an apology, total indifference. I'm sorry because the conditions were very high given that all the Michelin guide recognition plates are clearly displayed at the entrance. If I could have given zero to the service I would have given it, but alas I am not allowed to. I will definitely never return to this place again. Absolutely EMBARRASSING. P.S. In the area you can't find a parking lot, I recommend reaching the place by means of transport or if you want to spend crazy amounts you can find parking in one of the many garages.
Thin?
A bit old fashioned place. Attentive service. Fast service. Averagely good food, but some dishes to forget... the flavor was really monotonous and cloying. The doubt is that thin slices are used... not exactly an oriental flavour. There are better restaurants.
crazy dinner
Very nice place but the food was really excellent. we took the tasting and there wasn't a single dish that we didn't like. the price was more than fair. we ate until we burst I think. furthermore, for those interested, almost everything is gluten-free and for those who fear spicy food (like me) there is a huge choice of dishes that won't set your palate on fire. we will definitely return
From "drive a Ferrari" to "go to India/Sri Lanka" it's a snap
Honestly, it was a makeshift solution for a smartbox that was very close to expiring and changed at the last minute. Definitely an excellent change! Welcoming, friendly and helpful staff, from the moment you enter you feel catapulted into their culture. Food cooked to perfection, there was no need to use a knife to cut the meat, very tender. Particular, spicy flavours. If you go aware and with the desire to try flavors different from ours, or in any case spicier, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Tasty food, generous portions, friendly staff.
The decor is attractive, the staff are friendly and the service is professional. Food was tasty, apart from the roti which wasn't to my taste, (a bit dry). Were we to return, which we would, if passing Milan again, there are a couple of things I would ask. Not to bring the food so fast. We had barely got our drinks and the food arrived. While you do not want to be kept waiting too long this was super fast! A few minutes to relax would have been better. All the dish, curry ,rice and vegetables, was served individually on the one plate. Not in serving dishes to help yourself, as we would normally expect in an Indian restaurant. So we couldn't mix and match the curries. I get a bit put off if a huge plate of food is placed in front of me all at once. I prefer to take things in my own time. But the food was good and the portions generous so these are not complaits, bvut observations.
