Just as much substance as style
Expected this place to be style over substance but that wasn’t the case at all. The staff are young but professional, clearly bothered about whether you enjoy the food and drinks. The menu is interesting and all of our choices were delicious - particularly the pork. The room is beautiful (a little smaller than I expected), and the whole ambience was more understated than I thought it would be (in a good way). Most tables seemed to be couples or small groups of friends. The individual dishes are expensive but the wine and champagne by the glass is a nice feature - we didn’t feel that we were being ripped off.

Birthday treat, we arrived for lunch. A hidden away little door, a beautiful lift and a room that has to be seen to be believed. We ordered a bit of everything which was a little steep in price, but very clever and well presented. The shrimp croquets not great, but the rest amazing. The pea churros, the snapper, steak tartar, eel…all amazing. Cocktails superb too. Has to be seen. Maybe it’s aimed more to me than foodies. I certainly enjoyed it. Oh and visit their loos. Surely the most scenic in London!

A wonderfully evocative setting with its bijoux plates of exquisite (both presentation and taste) food. Well worth a visit from Paris! Memorable - the salsify and gnocchi, the oyster mushrooms , the carpaccios, and the jewelled rhubarb hiding under the only “custard” I have ever fallen for. Impeccable service made this an address to which I will return.
Be the first to ReplyAnother fantastic and fun lunch at Sessions!
Saturday lunch, second time I’ve been, and again it was just brilliant. Do not listen to the negative reviews. We had lots of food, two cocktails each, a glass of champagne each and a bottle of wine between us. The bill came to £280 including tip. Hardly unreasonable for this level of quality and service in an absolutely beautiful restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic experience and food
Went for my bday in Sept. There were three of us. We shared starters and puddings and they easily managed my GF dietary needs for my coeliac. From the atmosphere to the service to the food....oh, the food! It was delicious at every course, from starter to pudding. There was a divine beetroot starter that might've been my favourite, and I don't normally rate beetroot. And the rhubarb rice pudding was the best rice pudding I've ever had in my life. The atmosphere was special and unique. Overall an A+++, I can't wait to take my family when they visit. I can only think that other reviews are trolling because it's like a parallel experience.
Be the first to ReplyWhat did we have that others didn’t?
Frankly, I am staggered by the poor reviews. Feel like we must have been in a different restaurant ... The only negatives were the very high wine prices and the slightly too arch sommelier .... Otherwise, the service was uniformly sweet and professional, and the food extremely good. Highlights were the beef tartare with crisp Jerusalem artichokes, the churros-like chickpea panelle with sweet onion and the red mullet with a thick crab sauce (although the pumpkin was an irrelevance). The pastryless chocolate tart had a superb flavour and texture, and the ginger cake was suitably sticky. The deep-fried potato and eel ‘millefeuiile’ coukd have done with a little more eel and the coffee granita was a bit weedy (especially compared to Simon Hopkinson’s fantastic version). Others have admired the spacious, deliberately scruffy room. I just wish the loos could be male/female/anyone labelled and the restaurant could be accessed from the main front door rather than the tradesman/offenders side door. But we loved our meal and will be returning
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience from walking in the Red Door
The space is so beautiful and we were lucky to get a table on the top near the railing so you could see the grand room. The food was excellent, drinks delicious (maybe skip on the margarita) and service was decent.
Be the first to ReplyMagnificent building, disappointing food
First visit to this incredible venue after waiting months for a table to become available. We were certainly not disappointed by the ambience and magnificent surroundings, but the food did let it down. We had a pleasant waitress who kept apologizing for her stuttering explanations (it didn't matter to us - she was charming) and the table service was efficient. I thought the pane carasati was the best - crisp bread with a spread of anchovy sauce on top, and the eel pie was better than expected. The red mullet at £30 was a bit bland and the beef at £29 was a little tough. Sadly the wine was a letdown: Soave at £10 a glass and a bottle of Fatalone from Puglia at £46 were expensive and poor quality. £320 for 4 people. Good but not outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Concept...
The space is undeniably grand..and the feel is opulent. We were greeted and seated on the mezzanine level. Our server was truly outstanding and helped us navigate the .. interestingly arranged menu.We advisedly opted for a span of options, from the top to the bottom of the menu, with sharing platex the plan. It all went well till we attempted to negotiate the final - call it a main- course, This was a piece of 'sirloin' priced at a modest 36 quid. It resisted attempts to carve it,was mostly gristle and would have received a fail mark in first year catering college...it was barely edible. My question is :how on earth could a trending place commit such an own goal? My friend raised it with our server - more in sorrow than in anger and his view would be transmitted up the line,no doubt. In short;a fine occasion marred by an astonishing lapse
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful in every way!
A couple of foodies… Our experience of this place was simply beautiful in every way. Staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Food was a delight (quail with coco de paimpol beans was yummy). And the wine very good indeed. Will return as soon as I can!
Be the first to ReplyBirthday treat
Visited today 15/11/2022 for my birthday and have to say loved everything about it. The food was delicious and very varied based on a sharing menu. Every course was lovely my favourite the brown shrimp coquette, could have eaten more. The ambiance is so lovely all lit by candles and chandeliers. Staff excellent, friendly and knowledgeable, if you want a very different experience highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous venue but terrible, overpriced beige food!
Upon first impressions, it looks promising as the venue is beautiful. But one look at the menu and it all goes downhill rapidly. It's one of those pretentious 'sharing' type menus with a minimal selection of unappealing dishes. We really struggled to find anything which sounded remotely tasty so hesitantly opted for a beetroot dish and brown shrimp croquette (yep, you get just the one for a fiver!) as starters. Bland, small and totally underwhelming. The pork main was inedible, totally beige and flabby (verging on undercooked) in a bland beige sauce. We waited so long for the other main to turn up that we had to cancel it! No sign of any side dishes or veg.. just non-stop tasteless beige. Staff were friendly enough but the service was very slow. Such a shame this restaurant is such a letdown as the venue would lend itself to something pretty magical!
