Menu does not have prices.
Every person must pay for a drink whether they consume it or not. Food was mediocre, exorbitant prices. Very cramped and hot, servers repeatedly bump into you. Definitely do NOT eat here

First time eating here, much to my mom's and brother's surprise. They've been patronizing this eatery and the other one, run by the dad for ages. Anyway we got there as soon as they opened and managed to get two tables. Of all the dishes we ordered, my favorite was the beef with kailan! Had a very tasty "wok hei" flavor. The tofu with prawn is pretty good too. Parking can be challenging. Great for occasional family feasting!
Be the first to ReplyI had such hopes for this Zhi Char place.
We were sat quickly, hustled for our order and then the long wait began.Over an hour later, the first dish arrived - massive hunks of delicious tofu. The fish head followed, which was also fantastic. Then another 20 minute wait ensued, with (slightly too rubbery) Beef Kai Lan and a really delicious chicken dish. The food was good, but the wait was criminal - consistent provision of delicious tea helped what was still a frustrating dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant does not appeal to my tastebuds.
Having to wait for 20-30 mins (they did warn you. 20-30mins wait for OFF-PEAKS) for the food to be served (as there is only 1 chef cooking) is definitely not worth it! We ordered 5 dishes: Kang Kong Balachan, Sweet and Sour Pork, Steamed Pork with Salted fish, Steamed fish head and Tofu Prawn. The best dish is the kang kong balachan (their balachan is really good). Sweet and Sour Pork is crispy but the taste is not there. Steamed pork with salted fish and tofu prawn are pretty ok. Steamed fish head is such a disappointment as it has the fishy smell and our family of 6 people just don't like it. I gave them another star because the staff are always ensuring we have our tea cup full. But there are a lot of people eating. So maybe the super long wait and canto food are not for me. :/

Desmond's Creation can be hit or miss with various highs and lows. They have really good dishes but some unremarkable ones too. Let's start with the good: The tofu prawns are every bit like the Sik Bao Sin original and so delicious - the tofu is soft and delicate while the prawns are plump and sweet. The sweet and sour pork is among the best that I've had. The pork is crispy and the sauce has just the right amount of tartness and sweetness. The steamed pork also hits the right homey notes. Decent but forgettable: The bittergourd with pork ribs, the Cantonese style fish, ginger chicken, and beef with gailan are good dishes but you can find similar elsewhere. Not worth it: The prawns with special sauce that they claim to be a specialty. Not worth the high price. The prawns are bigger but bland and rubbery. The smaller prawns in the tofu prawn dish were smaller but packed more sweetness and texture. For sure there are great dishes here but to battle the lines and the heat make it 50/50. Still for the standout dishes above, it just might be worth it.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent home style cook dishes.
. well known for steam fish head soup.. and i think one of the best sweet and sour pork, tender and crispy.. unfortunately the sweet and sour pork is gone before i can snap the pictures
Be the first to ReplyI know I know.
. I am biased like that. This is as good as I think my memory serves me of the original store of their wonderful tofu prawn dish that I gladly would order two portions so that I don't have fight with people for this. (and the fish head too!). I also would gladly eat more rice here, just to satisfy my belly of the good old Cantonese tze char goodness. Of course, don't forget to order the steamed pork with salted fish as well. Those three, my friends, are delicioussssss dishes here. IF only someone could dabao the tofu prawn dish for me right now.. sobs.

Menu is quite limited for a Chinese restaurant, and the food is generally what you would expect, but the pricing is a little bit high for what you get. Also the waiting time (45 minutes +) for food can be very very long as it seems the chef likes to cook in big batches if multiple tables order the same dish.
Be the first to ReplyOld school Tze char goodness.
This is the brother restaurant of Sik Wai Sin (287 Geylang Road), an institution in Geylang. The menu is essentially the same with the same signature dishes. It is a small menu, subscribing to the concept of "you do not need a big menu if all the dishes are done well".I love it. My fav is the steamed fish head with bean sauce. Because of the type of fish, you have to like the "muddy" type of fish if you know what I mean. Thus, this is not for everyone. The other dishes are all good as well. The steamed meat patty with salted fish, the bitter gourd with pork ribs, the beef with kai lan, the tofu prawns. Respectable Cantonese food. Yes, a lot of it are familiar home cooked dishes but they do it traditional and well.On weekends, reservations can only be made for groups of more than 10. But I usually find going at lunchtime is an easy wait. Dinner gets crazier, so does the parking hell of geylang.

Only managed to try two of their signature dishes, the steamed fish n tofu prawns, they didn't disappoint. Been advised by my folks the steamed pork with salted egg is a classic. I also noted a number of tables having the watercress soup & black chicken soup.Better idea to plan your trip in advance also. I went by on a Saturday night and it was packed. Call if party of 8 (& up) due limited big tables. Otherwise, go weekdays or afternoons.

I finally had the chance to try the 'brother' restaurant of a famous zi char restaurant called Sik Wai Sin in Geylang area on a Sunday night for dinner. Four of us came at about 7:30pm and had to wait for 30 mins to be seated. Apparently we are only allowed to do reservation for at least 6 people but that still does not guarantee that the signature fish head dish to be available as well (just like what happened to us! We came for the fish head but it was sold out already). We ordered:Tofu prawn $26A must order dish but a little too salty! Prawns are huge too!Kang kong balachan $12It's one of my favorites as well although it's pretty hot and saltyGinger chicken $26Very nicely coated chicken with the red fermented bean (hence it looks like food coloring when you bite it) and buried in ginger sauce! Steamed pork with salted fish $15Extremely fragrant and tender!Bitter gourd with pork ribs $17This is meh! Pork ribs are not tender enough, although the sauce is deliciousI personally think most of the dishes I ordered are pretty popular among other customers also, that's why mostly are excellent but I find that they are pretty salty (this again depends on preference). However be prepared for crazily long waiting time between each dish, probably about 90 mins in total for 5 dishes. If you're in a rush, skip this place.
