Enjoyed food but too noisy & not so welcoming
Food was good. Concept is sharing but the size of the plates is normal size (not like tapas or the “small plates” places). So your dishes are served in middle and you both have a plate to decant food onto. We enjoyed the sausage and beetroot entrees (the latter was amazing). We ordered pork chop and miso aubergine for main… pork was OK but aubergine was to die for, really impressive. The triple cooked chips were perfect side. But this actually too much food for two of us (women) given we also wanted to have dessert. Those desserts were actually fabulous, super inventive and clever with amazing flavours. But…. The downsides….. Staff didn’t explain the concept or the menu very well (we had to ask and got a pretty basic explanation…. No mention there were daily specials). And tbh, the welcome was a bit “cursory” for a place where you’ll probably spend £100 per person on dinner. I’d expect a little more warmth. And…. The place is really noisy. Classic modern day fit-out…. No carpets, no drapes, no covers on table, nothing to dampen the noise. It wasn’t even half full when we were there (tube strike day) yet I was having to shout across the table at my partner. Most of the people who were in that night, in fact, were in groups so perhaps this is a restaurant that is more appropriate for a group rather than a two person dinner. Maybe the clue is in the name…. Enjoyed the food but I wouldn’t return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food great value for money but soooo noisy
We have been here a couple of times with friends and the food and value for money is really really good . The only major negative note is the noise level on the main restaurant area , if full you could barely hear the person in front of you talking as the noise level is really high . They need to install something on the ceiling to keep the noise down otherwise just good for parties .

Monk fish with a delicious casserole and a saffron cream sauce was excellent. Lamb was a bit tough. The charcutiers was skimpy. Service was slow and the atmosphere was pub like.
Be the first to Replyrelaxed, classy dining experience
Social Eating House is a great place for relaxed quality dining experience. The attentive service strikes the perfect balance of there when you need it, but not too in your face. Varied menu of excellent food made for sharing means you get to taste many more dishes which is good because they are all great. Decent wine list with many good options that are not crazy prices. I need to go back when I can do Chefs table tasting menu.

WOW! This place is amazing! Now it's not cheap but the food is exceptional, the wine list extensive and has a good range of prices and the staff are super friendly. Add those three ingredients together and you have to pay a high premium, but it is 100% worth it! Great atmosphere, we sat at the bar (restaurant was fully booked for the tables) and had a great evening. 100% to return. 100% recommend!
Be the first to ReplyDreadful experience
Let’s focus on the positive, the food was excellent, really enjoyed. However! The service was at best lacklustre at worst incompetent. When I asked what the sauce was on my main the reply was genius - “it’s a sauce”. The worst was yet to come. I paid the bill only to be told minutes later they had made a mistake and I was required to pay more, not ideal but did so. After leaving I did some quick mental maths and realised I was hugely over charged. I went back to ratify and was treated dreadfully. They did eventually correct but frankly it ruined the whole experience. Despite excellent food I would strongly recommend people avoid as the overall experience we had was dreadful.

This is a great spot and feels really trendy but the staff are very mediocre. The food was delicious but it took far too long for anyone to take our order and then again for dessert. One server almost tipped the tart off the plate as she put it down in front of me. We were sat by the door and could see people arrive and being ignored by staff who were chatting or on their phones. Really disappointing for a place with such great food and such a good reputation. Find some better staff who will actually look you in the eye as they walk past your table, not stare at the ground to avoid eye contact.

People on the floor do not seem to know what is going on. I had waited over an hour for my food! Would not recommend

Visited for my husbands birthday which was acknowledged with a card from all the staff! We began our evening with a drink upstairs at The Blind Pig sitting at the bar watching the bar man make cocktails - all very entertaining and the staff looked to be really enjoying themselves. We were a little confused by the menu but once we got our head round it after asking a few questions it became apparent how it works. The sharing concept works well for us as my husband gets to eat what I can’t with no shame! All the food was fantastic - couldn’t fault it.The steak tartare was our favourite! The service was great if a little brusque. My only criticism was the noise level - hard floors and ceilings with nothing to absorb the sound

From the first greeting to leaving the restaurant the staff were clueless!!! The welcome was brisk and basically why are you here! Starters were well presented and main dishes arrived to the wrong people and the sides came later . Service was extremely dismal . The Wine waiter had no idea about wines . Desserts looked good but bland but my cheese course was the worst I had experienced and I had to take a photo. How on earth did they even have the tenacity to serve this is still boggles me !!! Please see my photo! Would never return!!

We had an amazing meal with American friends today. The turbot was probably one of the best main courses I’ve ever eaten! Fantastic desserts and once again the staff were brilliant. We went upstairs to the blind pig where Gab made us the most imaginative cocktails. Love this place!

Booked a table for my wife's 50th birthday. We had drinks in their bar above and were seated at 9. 30 minutes for wine and a further 20 mins for water. Starters were excellent, but then we had to wait for over 45 minutes for mains. 5 arrived and the 6th one 10 minutes later and the fish was considerably undercooked. _ i think they forgot about this dish!. the manager apologised and offered an alternative. The rest of the table had already finished at this point. desserts arrived with a further 30 minute wait for more drinks. They took off the undercooked fish and service as we were there for 3 hours at this point. Expected more from a Michelin starred restaurant

Mid-week business lunch. Lovely selection of good quality food, beautifully cooked and presented. Good selection of cocktails and wines. Attentive service. Only downside is tables are quite small, it does feel like we were crammed in. Otherwise, always a great option when in Soho.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Experience
I was very lucky to be treated to a birthday meal at the chefs table, on the lower ground floor of this lovely restaurant. On arrival, the restaurant had arranged fresh flowers and a birthday card for me, such a nice surprise and very much appreciated. The food, oh my, where to begin! We had the 9 course taster menu with wine pairings. The presentation and flavours of each dish were exquisite and to be able to watch the chefs preparing each dish and then have them present it to you whilst explaining which ingredients went into the dish, was a truly fabulous experience. The sommelier certainly knew his stuff and the accompanying wines were spot on! It was so nice to do something different and if you’re a foodie, as I am, this is the place to go. I guarantee you’ll have a great time.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but too noisy
Nice food maybe slightly overpriced.
The restaurant was crowded and noisy but the food had the ambition and the price of a starred place. I think the fine balance between popularity and good service was lost. Staff looked a bit confused as well.
I loved the starters.
Relaxed
Haven’t been for a while but the menu and food still stands up to the competition well.
We had one of the larger tables near the front which was perfect for a business lunch. Nicely busy for a lunchrime.
Service was very good when it came. They seemed a bit thin on the ground.
Great food and atmosphere !
We booked the Chef’s counter and was not disappointed. The interaction between the kitchen staff, including head Chef Paul, made the night good fun. Angelica was an amazing host and had us laughing most of the night along side Andre, who helped make sure our wine glasses were never empty. The food was elegantly presented and tasted great. My favorite dishes were the scallops, ham, egg and chips and the sea bass. Well done to the entire kitchen for a memorable experience with our friends.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming
I was really excited to do the chefs counter experience. Although the food was nice I was underwhelmed by the dishes. Some courses were very salty and others lacked flavour. The food and paired wines were not worth the prices.
We opted for paired wines but weren’t that impressed with the offerings. The oak Chardonnay was not pleasant at all. Additionally we found the sommelier to be very patronising.
The service was very slow. It took ages for the food to start and to get our first wine. At points during the meal we had long wait times between courses. The entire experience dragged on for longer than necessary.
The bill was very slow to arrive which left us sitting for well over 30 mins waiting for it. The slow service and wait time for the bill ruined our evening.
I’ve had much better tasting menu experiences at lower prices. An overrated night.
Lovely, relaxed atmosphere and great food
Ate here with friends for a theatre pre-matinee lunch, so on a deadline, but could happily have spent the afternoon here.
We had the fixed price menu and the dishes were lovely.
The staff were friendly, but not overly attentive (in a good way) and were very welcoming.
Great experience
A colleague recommended this restaurant to me and I was pleasantly surprised. Great food and great service. Would definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday surprise at the Chefs Counter
We had the best evening at the Chefs Counter. It was truly amazing, and would highly recommend to everyone! The staff are second to none and it was such a privilege to watch the chefs preparing and cooking such fabulous food. Thank you so so much!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience
We had the chef counter experience. The menu was outstanding with added interaction and getting to watch professional chefs at work was the icing on a perfect occasion.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated
So overrated. You’ll get far better food for a fairer price at so many other restaurants. Steak is chewy, starters mistaking salt for flavour. Very disappointed as had heard a lot of good things and had been excited to finally visit. The food is obviously still nice but it’s nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyA disaster.
An awful experience. We arrive a little bit early for a dinner reservation hoping to enjoy the restaurant’s bar. The front of house had clearly not had enough sleep. What a miserable and horrible man. He implied we should have known that the related the bar was closed for five days and told us we’d be bloody lucky to be seated by 9pm as he had fifteen more tables to seat before us. We didn’t quite know what to say, but he then ushered us out of the restaurant as he said, surveying the largely empty restaurant, that he had literally no space for us to wait. He wasn’t worth engaging with. Just hope he was happy with himself at ruining one couple’s evening with his aggressive and unnecessary attitude. Avoid at all costs.
