Good chicken porridge
There's not many stalls left that serve such good chicken and porridge. Great comfort food. The chicken is smooth and firm. The porridge had just the right consistency.
Be the first to ReplyCantonese-Style White Chicken in Jurong West
This stall was previously at Bugis Street and they have shifted to Jurong West Street 51 hawker centre and been here for the past 30 years! I found them about 3 years ago and have been back several times.
They sell Cantonese style poached white Chicken and porridge. You can order a set for one, which comes with a plate of chopped white chicken and a bowl of porridge. This will set you back $4.50.
The chicken is moist and comes in thick chunks. Very old-school presentation. The porridge is not the velvety type you find in restaurants, but more watery. They add in ‘Dong Chye’ (preserved vegetables – Winter vegetable) in the plain porridge. Personally, I prefer my porridge without the ‘Dong Chye’, as it makes the porridge salty.
You can also order a plate of raw fish to go with your meal. You can slices of raw fish with a tangy sauce, lime and chopped lettuce. It will cost upwards of $5.
This is a good dining option in far-flung Jurong, which would be common-place in Chinatown in the city.
