Good Steak And Wines At Sunset Station
A very comfortable place within Sunset Station Casino to enjoy a well-prepared dinner. We were at the next to last seating so the crowd had died down to just a few tables. Even at that, the service was a little spotty. But the dinner choices were good - soups, salads, a wide variety of steaks and seafood, as well as tasty appetizers. For us, it was a grass-fed filet with shishito peppers and roasted chicken with a vegetable melange. A nice meal. Cocktails and wine choices were very agreeable. For singles, there's a bar at the entry showing TV sports. The tender can change the station to the event you'd like to see. If it's a prime seating time maybe make a reservation?

We originally looked to make reservations at Hanks but had no agreeable time slots left. Sonoma was the next on our list and it turned out to be a wonderful night. We showed up a little early where the executive chef was up at the hostess stand who later stop by our table to make sure everything was agreeable. It’s been along time since I’ve seen that. We were seated in our requested booth and the spacing was on point with the current Covid requirements. The inside of the restaurant has nice spacing and has a very nice look to it. Our waitress Poom was very friendly and great with her wine recommendations. We started off and split a classic wedge salad and a bowl of French onion soup. Both of these were spot on. The bread basket they left at the table featured roughly 5 different kinds of bread which all were very tasty. For the mains we guards the grass fed fillet with the au pouvire sauce and a ribeye oscar style. For sides we opted for the twice baked au gratin potato and the cream spinach. Everything was as ordered. For dessert we got the crème brûlée and I ordered a coffee with Sambuca on the side. The coffee was brought to the table in a French press… Nice touch. Also earlier in the night I had ordered a ride whiskey Manhattan which came complete with bourbon cherries and the big ice cube the way this drink should.… All in all very satisfied with all aspects of the dinner and our waitress Poom was top notch. I would definitely return if the occasion presents itself. Do you know that as far as nice steakhouse is go the price is a little bit more modest here then say somewhere like old Homestead or even Hanks.

Our group (6) have New Year's dinner every year at Sonoma Cellars with our waiter, Brian. This year was no different. The food was excellent and Brian's service was excellent. We will be back soon.

Great restaurant, I've visited it several times in recent years. The stacks are OK, but I especially want to recommend the superb lobster tail.

The restaurant had live entertainment, a young lady singing. She was good, but a little loud if you wanted to carry on a conversation at your table. Our server had our drinks quickly, but it seemed they forgot our appetizers. After some time our server came by and asked how our appetizers were. We had not had them yet. After that he appeared to try to make up for that and was very attentive. Our entre's were very good. My short ribs were perfect and the grilled asparagus was also good. The atmosphere was very nice. And the sauce with my shrimp cocktail was very tasty with a little dab of horseradish. Being right off the floor of slots it was a little noisey, and it was quite a walk from the entrance. Tip - Enter at the bowling alley which is right next to the restaurant.

I took my wife and a good friend of ours to this restaurant for Mother’s Day (2018) Dinner. I must say that we were very pleasantly surprised.
Our servers were very knowledgeable of the menu and wine pairing for specific selections.
Ambiance was great. Real classy.
We had the wedge salad, lobster bisque, lobster and corn bisque for starters. Very good. Our main courses were Pecan crusted fresh Alaskan Halibut, Maine Lobster tail and Filet. Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty. All three of us enjoyed our selections very much.
I believe that the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I will definitely return. Give them a try. You will be pleasantly satisfied.
Swanky Redesign, Mediocre Food
I've tried Sonoma Cellar five times over the years and it has never failed to disappoint me. Last night was my first visit after the new redesign and while the restaurant is drop-dead gorgeous inside in terms of interior design, the food is still just as god-awful as ever. I spent my free players points on dinner here and while it was technically a "free" mail, I STILL feel like I got ripped off.
Our server was professional and prompt (until it came time to pay our bill, more on that later). We were presented with a basket of complimentary bread which included sourdough, wheat, and a really yummy bacon foccaccia style bread. Noone warned us that there was indeed pork in the bread, a big no-no if there's a vegetarian or vegan at your table.
The new menu looks an awful lot like the old menu, but with a few "upgrades": one of them apparently being the quality of the meat. Our waiter gushed about how the kitchen was now using "fresh produce grown in Nevada" and "higher quality beef."
The menu is also misleading. The descriptions sound delicious but they over-promise while the kitchen under-delivers. Here's what we ordered:
Appetizer to Share: Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, $14 for four decently prepared shrimp wrapped in super crispy bacon and a mustard / orange marmalade sauce. Tasty but overpriced.
For dinner I got the filet mignon ($34) and asked for it medium well. The kitchen butterflied my steak which is fine, but it was still a little too pink in the middle for me and it was served cold. I didn't send it back because it wasn't that good anyway, but a steakhouse should know how to properly cook a steak without butterflying it and if they have to cut it, it at least shouldn't be closer to rare in the middle (and serving a steak cold -- not room temperature, but COLD) is ridiculous. Hubby got the pan seared ribeye ($39) and said the meat quality was disappointing. Neither of the steaks were well seasoned and my steak tasted like it had zero seasoning on it at all, not even salt or pepper.
The side dishes, each priced at $9, were miniscule portions and tasted bad. We had broccoli that was served with a dab of yogurt on the bottom and a few sad pistachios tossed in (although the menu promised spicy broccoli with mint and yogurt and nuts, we technically got those things but it was unappetizing to look at), and Cauliflower Three Ways (the menu listed it as such, as a trio of cauliflower prepared pickled, pureed, and roasted). We were served a bowl of cold roasted cauliflower.
The wine list was actually quite good, heavy on the big California reds and the per bottle prices weren't marked up as much as they are at the "big boy" gourmet steak houses. A few wines were served by the glass for an average price of $11 per glass. We brought in our own bottle and the corkage fee was $25.
The service was decent until it was time for our check, and we sat and waited quite a long time. We were trying to catch a movie next door at the Regal and our waiter was aware of that fact. Still, he ignored us for a good 15 minutes before returning with our check. We paid with points but he erroneously took an additional $40 worth of points out of our Players account. He swore he would get a manager to take care of it, but I'm doubtful. I'll check to see what my balance is but I have every idea that he just left that extra $40 on there.
This is a pretty restaurant but the food is bad, the prices are too high, the quality is poor, and the service needs a lot of work. I won't be back.
Great Steaks, Sides and Service
They completed their remodeling and the place is definitely brighter and modernized.
We had a great meal with steaks, crab legs and a gaggle of sides. I thought the creamed spinach was the best of the sides. Only disappointment was the lack of an au gratin potato choice, the new potato item added just wasn't that good.
Steaks were tender but kind of small with 6 oz. and 8 oz. being the choice for filet, but I did notice some really large steaks on the menu, so the choices are there.
Worth another visit, hope they add back the creamy au gratin potatoes.
Excellent Italian food
We went to a show at Sunset Station and ate here afterwards. We did not have a reservation and the wait was about 30 minutes. The wait was definitely worth it. The food was excellent, one of the best Italian food and dessert we have had. The restaurant is open air in the casino so it is fun to watch the people walking by. Our waiter was very attentive and prompt with our requests. We definitely will be back for more.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Service - Good Food!
The restaurant is quiet and has a calm relaxing environment. Five of us went for dinner on a Thursday night. The New York Strip was cooked correctly and was good, but not great. I've had more tender and more flavorful steak. However, I felt the size and quality was good for price. The grilled asparagus was cooked perfectly, but the augratin potatoes weren't cooked long enough but had good flavor. Our son thought his sea bass was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with wine selection. Service was excellent. If steak was more tender and potatoes had been done I would have rated it 5 stars. I would return to try again.
