St. JOHN Restaurant London Reviews
Between Expectations and Reality
I was visiting from Canada and had heard rave reviews about this restaurant so naturally, we booked it months in advance, fully expecting a life changing food experience. Fast forward to our arrival: we had to walk past a crowd of people outside smo
Very Very disappointed by 2nd class meal , which seemed like a performative photo opportunity
I went to St John first time on 26/9, encouraged by a friend . I had Welsh rabbit, well my own home made is far better, the bread was was hard that it difficult to cut with a sharp steak knife , in the end I had pick it up and eat with my hands, sec
Simply incredible!
What an amazing experience. Came all the way from Belgium as this restaurant was recommended to me and it was absolutely worth the trip. It is unique, the food is Devine and great service ! LOVE IT❤️
Well worth a visit
This is a super restaurant in very relaxed surrounding. It was busy on a Monday night that speaks volumes about the experience offered. Nothing is wasted on the animal which is a good ethos to have. The bone marrow, tripe and heart were all beautiful
Old school English cuisine
St John seems to hold almost untouchable status within foodie circles, their reputation is beyond reproach. I had planned to visit on numerous occasions over the years but would always hesitate after perusing the menu and failing to get excited about
Elevated simple food
Loved our experience. Sat in the bar area and not the restaurant. It was very relaxed. Food was pretty simple but done perfectly. Super tasty without any gimmicks.
Disappointing
Largely disappointing, ok food, nothing special, very surprised it has a star. We had to return one meal as it was so poor, turns out it was the last batch and they just tried to finish it off !
Great place
Fantastic food and also great service. Get the duck as an entree if available. One of the greatest places to eat in London for a very reasonable price.
The quintessential british restaurant, this restaurant
The quintessential british restaurant, this restaurant excels at their infamous bone marrow. They've masted the perfect combination of fat, salt and acidity for the perfect toast. Besides that, the fish was one the best we had on this trip. The

Boldly going where no lactose intolerant has gone before: deep fried rarebit. And despite the devastating effects that dairy poses for my digestion system, I will go back for seconds -- and thirds! -- and fourths! That's the mf'ing quality
Amazing Experience
It was so amazing. From the catering to the service it was all on point hence the 5 star rating. I normally never rate anything as 5 but this was so amazing and was the best.

Amazing food.
Amazing service. An experience not to be missed. Loved the trip and it was further enhanced by great food and service like here
I ate here for dinner with my family.
It was busy in the restaurant and at the bar downstairs. I enjoy a menu that rotates with what is fresh and in season. The Roast Bone Marrow is so delicious and juicy- great start to the meal. The Grey Mullet was light, moist, and flaky. To finish th
Outstanding food, service, ambiance.
Classic British food, nose to tail, simply but exquisitely prepared. We started with olives and roasted bone marrow, a favourite we order whenever possible, and this was the best we've ever had. Accompanying parsley salad was flavourful crunch

I was curious about checking out more classic British cuisine while looking for an experience that would be harder to get back in the states. While searching online, I saw various sources recommending a restaurant called St. John that has been a stap
Delicious, unpretentious hearty food.
Everything was excellent, from the bread to the exquisite bone marrow starter, the guinea fowl and rabbit entrees, to the decadent chocolate cake. The staff were super attentive and helpful.
Our experience here was very underwhelming.
We were very excited to eat here, as it was highly recommended by close individuals and well known chefs. However, it fell completely short. We started off the night with the bone marrow, which was delicious but very small portions. For the table o
We recently visited St.

All good. Spectacular puds.
We went, in truth, because we thought we ought to, living nearby. Turned out that St John was fantastic - good ambience, unpretentious, lovely service, great food. I'd guess that most diners don't get to the puds, but let me tell you: they are wonde
A must visit, every time we are back in London
This is a classic go to, every time we are in London. The meaning of good quality food. The Bine Marrow is simple heaven. Feels like home every time.
My favourite spot
Always the highlight of trips to London Impeccable, knowledgeable staff The menu and wine are well thought out and the delivery of all the dishes was perfect
All around great food experience with high quality
All around great food experience with high quality ingredients! Highly recommend the chicken liver toast to start! Dishes were full of so much flavor! I got the monkfish and my husband got the park beef, it was extremely tender. Menu does change dai

A must visit when you are in London. Tables get booked up for weeks so i recommend going for weekdays. I was really looking forward to the bone marrow dish but all the dishes on the menu were superb and in fact i enjoyed other dishes such as the live
Nice Lunch
I have heard so many good reviews about St Johns but it is one of those restaurants that you can't really dine alone. The only item I have tried from them was their doughnut from the Bakery however recently I got hyped on Calves liver because it was

The service was beyond slow as I thought maybe we did something wrong. It took 30 minutes it felt to get a second glass of wine. Food took forever and nothing really stood out. This was a restaurant recommended to me so I had high hopes. But nothing
Disappointing dining experience with taste and creativity of food not reflecting Michelin star status
Supposed to be one of the most well known and iconic restaurants on our Food Crawl dining venue list. This Michelin 1*,‘ nose-to-tail ‘ eatery, belonging to the legendary English chef Fergus Henderson, sadly turned out to be our trip’s only cul
Well worth a visit
Very interesting concept and a great venue for last nights wine dinner. Most of the food was outstanding; brown crab meat on toast canapé and asparagus (starter), chicken pie (main) - all to die for. Some dishes less so but even then, the general st
I was very excited to eat here.
The menu changes daily and uses the animal head to tail. I fear my expectations weee too high for this place. The dishes were good but extremely simple. And that's their style. Simply dressed and seasoned. The very present Welsh rarebit and Madeline'

St. John is a must-stop on our visits to London. Since the menus change regularly, I was concerned on our scheduled date that some of the "big hitters" wouldn't be available. Well, we hit the menu jackpot! Deviled kidneys for a starter and
Informal Bar Lunch
Met a colleague here in the bar area, rather than the restaurant. Great selection of beers and wines, although the wine by the glass rather expensive. Both went for the Welsh Rarebit followed by Eccles Cake & Lancashire Cheese. Excellent.
A perfect meal.
Elevated, comforting flavours using great produce treated with care and not overfussed. The brill special of the day was exceptional as well as the date loaf with butterscotch sauce! Staff were helpful and friendly and the vibe of the restaurant is w
A Must Do EXPERIENCE
On our final night in London, and vowing to stop and go here on every Euro Trip, my wife and I feasted on some very unique fares. I had the blood cake and she had the deviled calf kidneys. Started off with the bone marrow app. First time enjoying nos

I was quite disappointed by this meal, from start to finish.
I'll start with the parts I enjoyed - the potatoes were great, dessert was great, and wine was great. The pigeon was prepared very well. Unfortunately, I don't have many positive things to say beyond that. We had to push through a crowd to enter
The most relaxed star meal I’ve ever had!
St John was honestly the most chilled Michelin experience I’ve ever had. The setting is brilliant, it’s 100 mile an hour with all the staff zipping about the place, it’s great to see such a different type of restaurant to the usual white table
A wonderful restaurant experience at all levels
St John is special, and it's been special ever since I first came to the restaurant in the 1990s. Few restaurants get all these things right - food, service, and atmosphere - but St John does. The food is the best of British: a bit quirky, imaginativ
Meat heaven.
A paradise for meat lovers. At first you wonder if it's old, but then you feel ashamed when you see the service and food. I suggest you prepare yourself for this feast by going early and sipping your beer at the bar.
We were super excited to dine at St John.
Many food loving people recommend this place to us. I love whole animal butchery and simple honest cooking methods so why 2 stars? Sad to say, we did not enjoy what we ate at St John Bar. Maybe it was an off night? Or I was expecting something more
Great meal away from the busy tourist spots of London in quiet clerkenwell
Great find off the beaten track. Looks like some garage but wow the food was delicious. Many meat based dishes..we were four and shared many...all were great.
Great Dining Experience!
Wow! I am a bit late in writing this review, but my goodness, I am still thinking about this restaurant and my experience eating here. The restaurant atmosphere is very hip, with a bit of industrial meets "meat." I was a bit late arrivin

Still great food but slipping standards
Full disclosure - I adore St John - I have eaten here many, many times over the years, for birthdays, client lunches, even for New Year's Eve. The menu is consistently exciting as it (normally) is well-executed (more on this later on). The reason for
Discombobulated meal.
Things came out without any explanation. We couldn't discern between a small side salad and a main course fish dish which tells you about portion size . It was underwhelming overall. Food was mediocre. Lights are super downstairs and there is zero am
The busser's uniform was torn at the shoulder.
In a restaurant that exemplifies the beauty of simplicity, every small detail must be attended to. This tear was indicative of an overall sagging of attention. Our server brought our wine, opened-filled everyone's glass almost to the top and then pre
First trip to London and had the most amazing meal.
The Welsh Rarebit was the absolute best. I went local and had the turbot, leeks and lavabread, OUTSTANDING! The service was wonderful also.
I had dinner here, and I thought it was just alright.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I found the food to be just ok. The service was great, though! To start, we had the smoked cod roe on toast and the bone marrow and parsley salad. The smoked cod row basically just looked like smeared canned f
