St. Lawrence Restaurant Vancouver Reviews from The Last Year
What?!
Finally got here! Not impressed. $125 per person mandatory 20% tip pre-paid a month ahead of time. They send you an email 48 hours in advance that is stern and unpleasant. Service is nothing special, polite enough but NOTHING outstanding, reaching across us multiple times. Sommelier was excellent. Portions were microscopic- tasty enough, but just a bite or two each course. Rushed out the door in two hours. I left hungry and went home to get something to eat. Would never go back and I have no idea what the fuss is about. A huge disappointment.
I would not go back there again
I was very uncomfortable at this restaurant. If you lack compassion enough to be able to have good food and wine surrounded by abject poverty, homelessness, and heartbreaking drug use, go there. This restaurant is located in a neighbourhood that does not at all match the hype the restaurant likes to create around itself. This restaurant has created this hype about itself where you have to try a couple of times to get a reservation; you must pay a mandatory $125 per person and a mandatory 20% tip when you book online. If you don't show up, the amount you paid is not refunded which is probably to trap people like me. If we had not prepaid $250 ahead of time, I would not stay. If fact when we got to the restaurant, shocked by the location, I asked our cab to wait for us to make sure we are in the right place (I could not believe my surroundings) and that I wanted to make sure the place was open. They were 10 minutes away from opening, but they would not let us in although I asked them if we could be let in as I was uncomfortable standing in the street in that environment. So I had to wait there in an environment where I felt sad, unsafe, and uncomfortable for 10 minutes until they opened the door to the restaurant. Fine dinning is a whole experience. It is not just eat, drink, and get out of there before it is dark. I am insulted that a restaurant that creates so much hype about itself leads to one of the neighbourhoods in North America. They did not have enough courtesy or decency to let me in for the 10 minutes that we had left to the opening to allow me to leave an environment in which I was visibly uncomfortable and and told them I was uncomfortable. Hard pass! You take any cook book; follow the instructions carefully, you'll end with good food. You don't need to feast in a neighbourhood when under privilleged people live painful lives.
Disappointing
St. Lawrence made its reputation on serving traditional Quebecois food executed to a very high standard. Now that they've hit the big time it seems like they feel the need to do the kind of 'tasting menu' that too many high end restaurants do, that is, unusual and complicated preparations that are all about the skill of the chef and less about serving the guest a satisfying meal. Halfway through the parade of little plates all I wanted was my own plate with my own dinner. That being said, some of those little plates were very good, some less so. And for those who would like to have a conversation over dinner, this might not be the best place. It's noisy and they insist on playing music which just adds to the din.
Won’t go back - way too expensive for wine pairing!
I have been meaning to go for 8 months - pleased that they were able to move around my reservation - very appreciated. However! You need to pre-pay for dinner! And the pushed wine pairing - was never! Explained for price and was over 300 dollars just for two people! The worst was when presented and responded to the bill - well of course? ! There were bits that were good regarding food - but the blob of Boursin cheese for amuse bouche and the very gamey ! Lamb and the other deep fried item - were waaayyyy too rich that one couldn’t eat and I have eaten a lot of French and Quebec food. It wasn’t the best French food in Vancouver as Le Crocodile is far superior. One server was lovely but another was way too rude and arrogant. The delivery of the 300 plus bill for wine pairings was so so terrible that my Mom became quite upset and it ruined any experience of the evening. The arrogance of the staff is coming out and the place won’t last with such an attitude. Go to Le Crocodile for good French food! And you won’t have to pay outrageous prices for wine pairing.
Ralph Fiennes & JC Poirier have something in common; a dislike for their customers
Have you seen the movie "The Menu"? Well, that’s St-Lawrence! Pretentious, weird, fixed menu, and owner so stupid he can't say hello or thank you to customers who pay $300 for the chance to eat at his establishment. Special touch to the dresses of the waitresses who come directly from the Village d'Antan in Drummondville. If this is the face of Quebec gastronomy in British Columbia, well I'm going to fly my flag at half-mast!
More than just a meal, a truly unforgettable expierence
Fantastic food, wine pairings and service - overall a great evening in lovely setting. There were several courses, all nicely timed, rich and filling. The flan de foie gras (Duck liver custard), tartare de kanpachi with a Uni sauce and grilled beef were favourites at our table. Would most definitely come back.
French cuisine at its best
Close your eyes and you could be in Paris. In fact it’s a good idea not to look outside as it’s not one of Vancouvers best areas. Never mind, the dining experience is excellent, a mixture of surprises and choices on the menu, backed up by a good choice of cocktails and wines. Tables are close together and the restaurant is compact, but that adds to the atmosphere. Every dish was full of french flavour, expertly prepared and delivered by attentive, knowledgeable staff. Definitely add this to your list when visiting Vancouver and be sure to book early.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

My reservation expired but I did not get a credit and I see no way to cancel. How do I the funds back as a credit?
