Service was horrible and meals were way over priced for the quality of the food. Ambiance was nice and clean. Took forever for the waitress to serve us refreshments and had absolutely no personality.
Be the first to ReplyMy daughter wanted to go here to celebrate her birthday.
It was a Wednesday night. The older lady at the front desk was not welcoming at all and none of the servers said not one word to us when they served our food. They seemed bothered that we were there. Our waitress was good, she was happy to serve us. The food was ok but not enough to go back. My advice is to visit this restaurant and maybe you will get better service than we did.
Be the first to ReplyWas very disappointed in the guality of the food.
Ordered a " Sweet Greens" salad with crispy chicken as an add on. I know ordering crispy chicken is risky because you never know the amount of breading it will have. Well that was a big mistake the chicken was covered with a thick breading.. Reminded me of Whataburger's strips , all breading with very little chicken. They didn't even cut up the chicken just piled a bunch of strips on top of salad. Also there was very little actual salad greens .. my friend tried ordering a cocktail that called for basil which they were out of so they couldn't make that... For the price and location wasn't impressive probably won't go back .

My wife and I were really looking forward to eating lunch here. The hostess sat us down at the farthest outdoor table from the door. The Server didn't even acknowledge us being there while attending other patrons around us. We waited for 20 minutes until we decided to leave. It wasn't even busy. We went next door to Escalantes instead. They sat us down and, within seconds, the server greeted us with chips and salsa. Very disappointed with the experience at State Fare.

State Fare has been on the "try" list for quite a while, and today we discovered that it had regrettably been there far too long. Everyone was friendly and helpful from the time we walked through the front door. The ambiance was upbeat, happy, and positive. Making menu selections wasn't easy because there are so many enticing options. However our server Catherine was super helpful in answering questions and assisting us in making great selections. The "Birria Benedict" on a jalapeño cornbread waffle was unique and delicious, and the "Hipster Cristo" in a funnel cake batter was an awesome Monte Cristo that didn't disappoint (as can often be the case). We were more than happy with our choices -both presented well and delicious from a highly-adept kitchen! Kim, the general manager, checked in on us a few times and couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with her, and feel like we have a new friend to catch up with when we return (soon) to dive into more of the amazing menu, and enjoy the great service we received from the entire staff! Keep up the amazing work, State Fare!

Be the first to ReplyWe weren't sure what to expect when we entered after
We weren't sure what to expect when we entered after reading some of the reviews. We were very pleasantly surprised. Restaurant was very pretty inside and felt more expensive than the name implies. I couldn't help but notice how the servers expertly moved about the dining room and touched tables even if they weren't their own. Freddy our server was excellent in every way. The Breakfast Club cocktail is a must have. A perfect expresso martini with coconut, and an excellent wake up. Birria Benedict was terrific, eggs perfectly cooked and really tasty beef. I had the griddle cake. Huge! I had to bring half home. It was perfectly cooked, but paying a $2 up-charge I definitely want to see blueberries in my griddle cake. A few total didn't quite make the grade. Why only four stars? When we first entered the person greeting us was a bit brusque and short with us. She seemed frustrated that we made a reservation, but there was no table ready. Although not our fault, she gave the impression she was annoyed with us. Little did we know the general manager Kim was also at the desk.... A true delight and master of service recovery! Bright personality and truly cared about us and getting us settled. She came by often and even stopped to chat. Felt like we had just met what would soon be another member of our Texas village. We will definitely return! Thank you Kim and Freddy for a great brunch experience!

This place is super cute! The salad and burgers had us return here at least 4 times in a 2 month span. I've already brought my parents 3x! One suggestion, please offer some type of fruit cobbler or pie,
Be the first to ReplyState fair kitchen is definitely one of the best brunch
State fair kitchen is definitely one of the best brunch spots I've gone to in The Woodlands. The services are amazing. She gave us great recommendations on the food, as well as the suggestion of the mimosa flights. The food was so good, and the ambience was nice and laid-back. It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it.
Be the first to ReplyDate night - my choice.
Def will go back. Loved the look of the restaurant. Modern with a bit of a retro vibe. We didn't drink - water tonight. We had the fried green tomatoes. Delicious if you like horse radish. The sauce was so good and the touch of crab... my favorite of the night! We ordered the chips, guacamole and salsa adding in the Birria meat, onion and cilantro and gravy/sauce. Took me a minute to figure out how to dip the cheese into the Birria sauce. Doesn't disappoint! Very good! Last item was the pork belly burger. Least favorite. It was a bit bland to us. Waitress was nice. Music was good (some Pink Floyd). Wouldn't mind going back!

From the moment we walked in, it seemed to be there were some issues going on. Tables were open, but they weren't seating at those right away so we had to wait. When my husband walked out to see what other restaurants were nearby, the hostess made a snide comment about only having two minutes left in our wait at that point and seemed annoyed he walked out. We should have left right then. Instead we stayed and ended up being sat at a table that had been open the whole time. From the moment we sat down, we had issues with service. Three of our party ordered off the restaurant week menu and one of the appetizers was incorrect, then one of the entrées was incorrect and nobody was coming by our table that we could inform them about it. I just ate the wrong one since we still hadn't received the corrected appetizer at that point. When the entrées were served, most of them were lukewarm at best and one in the party got a bowl of cold french fries. We had to continually track down the server for what we needed, like refills on our water or to change out the food. Took forever, too. Nothing was rave worthy. The chicken fried steak, green beans, and mashed potatoes lacked flavor. The hot chicken was dried out and not good. The only thing that was decent was the bread pudding. The worst part, everyone in our party had bad indigestion or tummy trouble after eating there. They're relatively new so may still be working out kinks, but overall not a good experience.

This location has horrible service the food was raw and they walked us on the outside to get to the patio by the dumpster !! Don't know if it was a race thing but she said it was crowded in the inside in top of that we called the manager TOLD HER ABOUT THE FOOD and she was quick to say WE WILL TAKE IT OFF no ma'am address the issue and be more compassionate plus my sister never got her sides and my son didn't get what she orders and you want to handle us !!! I paid the bill 320 dollars but don't come to me like we black and want a feee freakingMeal ... I am so over it !!! The food was cooked to hard and burned ..

Absolute cute restaurant, but the food was terrible and very expensive. We consumed a wilted slimy mixed green salad with about .5oz of smoked chicken on top and a Hot (not spicy) tuna poke salad. I hope we don't puke tonight from expired and spoiled fish. Who charges $14 for kids' meals?
Be the first to ReplyI would not recommend Sate Fare.
We ate dinner here for my sons bday and the food was not good for the price.

I took my husband for an early Father's Day, we went and tried out State Fare in The Woodlands. The atmosphere was super modern, a little too loud for my taste, so I would recommend sitting outside. I tried the Honey Badger to drink (bc the honey badger doesn't give a ****, if you know my reference we are both old )It is made with Makers Mark, honey, lemon water and thyme. Actually very refreshing if you are looking for a cool summer drink. For my main dish I had the King Ranch Chicken Casserole. It was a childhood favorite of mine that my mom made. I would rate it a 6 out of 10. I would do away with the 100 pieces of tortilla strips on top and double layer the tortillas. The tortillas in the casserole were super soggy, but the flavor was savory and filling. You deff have to give them a try if you are in The Woodlands. #foodphotography #foodporn #htx #foodie #foodrecipes #foodreviews

2nd time here in a couple of weeks! Love the beautiful, elegant decor and casual atmosphere. Perfect combination! Service was, again, stellar. Manager is very hands-on and is obviously striving for excellence, as that's exactly what you get here. All dishes were delicious and generous in portions. I hate that I forgot my to-go bag, because that bunless chili cheeseburger is a WORK OF ART. I'm sadly missing it this morning! This is definitely a favorite spot to meet friends for drinks and dinner

..Ordered the following menu item:Texas GreyhoundFried Green Tomatoes (lump crab, remoulade, jalapeño)Braised Beef Shortrib & ShrimpNana's Banana Puddin'The food, atmosphere & service were all very good! However, I was disappointed with the Fried Green Tomatoes being so small and thin for the cost.
Be the first to ReplyWife picked this place for her birthday dinner.
I had never heard of it but think it's somewhat new as we occasionally eat at other restaurants in the area and we hadn't seen this one yet. It was a wonderful choice as we loved everything about it. The atmosphere and decor was warm and inviting, yet also unique (which I like). We were really impressed with the menu options. There were plenty and it's always a "good problem" when you have a hard time making a decision on what to order. Especially in new restaurants for the first time, I pay close attention to all the food as it makes it's way from the kitchen to nearby tables....as we await ours. I even mentioned to my wife that I hadn't seen one plate pass by that didn't look like something I would eat (and I'm a fairly picky eater). In fact, observing a passing plate is what helped me pull the trigger on my choice of entree (more on that later). Speaking of observing passing plates.....the burgers looked phenomenal (even though nobody in our party ordered one). Maybe next visit. We started with the Southern Farm Board as an appetizer. Being a first-timer to this establishment, I wanted to try a variety of appetizers in one sitting and this choice filled that need. We had our teenage daughter with us (who is even more of a picky eater than me) and I nearly had to fight her for some of the jalapeño sausage. The board also contained a healthy amount of cheeses (including pimento), as well as honey and a mustard dipping sauce for the crackers and toasted bread. My personal favorite inclusion was the bacon deviled eggs which each came with a pork rind for a nice added twist. There was plenty of food on the board to satisfy all 3 of us and there were still a few crackers/bread leftover when we were done. I ordered the Stacked Wedge Salad to start with, but be forewarned....it's large enough to be an entire meal. As good as it was, I wish it was offered in a side-salad size as I knew there was no way I could eat it all and still have room for an entire entree. The candied pecans were plentiful, which proved handy as my wife kept picking them off the top and eating them. Hey, it was her birthday so who am I to complain? For entrees, I ordered the Double Smoked Pork Chop that I saw being delivered to a nearby table soon after sitting down. Pork is usually not my first choice of protein but I was already impressed with this place enough that I knew I'd be visiting again, so I went ahead and made the impulse buy. It was down to that or the Chicken Fried Ribeye (if that means anything to you). The pork chop was maybe a little on the smaller side from what I was expecting, but with the appetizer and salad I had just consumed, it really didn't matter. The glaze was tasty and there was a nice snap to the skin on each bite. The mash potatoes and green beans that accompanied it were tasty and plentiful as well. My daughter greatly approved of the mashed potatoes, and I consider her an expert on that food. Parents will know what I mean. My wife chose the King Ranch Casserole and thoroughly enjoyed it. The presentation of this dish was fantastic as well, like a work of art. My daughter chose the Birria Grill Cheese and came nowhere near close to finishing it, as it was just a very large helping. She enjoyed it though and said she wanted to save room for desert. We had our eye on a particular menu item since reviewing an online version ahead of the visit. We ordered the S'mores kit which we thought was unique and not something you see offered very much. The cinnamon sprinkled graham crackers, Hershey's chocolate, and large plump marshmallows were all the sugary goodness you could ask for. A pre-lit buffet warming candle; or sterno candle is provided along with skewers and it was certainly a unique and special way to cap off a pleasurable birthday dinner. The 3 of us couldn't even finish all that was offered. A fun desert option for those visiting with kids....or the big kid inside all of us. It's not a cheap place per se, but I never complain about price when I feel the value is there. It certainly is in this case. Our tab for the 3 of us was $136 (no alcoholic beverages included) but we had the large appetizer and the desert to go along with our 3 entrees.....and my salad really could've been a fourth entree, it's just hard for me to turn down a good wedge salad, and this is one of the better ones I've had. We highly recommend a visit, and when it's a little cooler outside, we plan on coming back to enjoy the patio and lakefront dining that's offered. We were very pleased with the attentive service and waiter kept our drinks full without ask. I was pleased to see a manger walking around and checking on guests as well....seems to be a dying act these days.
