The fresh fish and rice are so soft and delicious! The ahi tuna is the best part. Love the ambiance and great customer service every time I come here. Absolutely love this place hands down my favorite sushi!
For the price, it's hard to find better quality.
Service was impeccable. I've been here so many times and it is just so consistent! Will be back soon!!
I love the concept of "Sugarfish" and I have been a regular
I love the concept of "Sugarfish" and I have been a regular primarily in Calabasas location which is the closest to my home. Couple weeks ago I had an amazing experience in Santa Monica location which inspired me to write this review. The food is excellent like in any other location (Nozawa Trust me is what I usually go for) however what sets this location apart is amazing team who made so much difference in my experience. I would like to give a special thanks to Abby and Alyssa (the servers) , Hana (the host) , Brian (the store manager) and Austin (regional manager). All of them were extremely accommodating with my food preferences, knowledgeable, genuine, kind and fun to talk to. After spending over an hour enjoying delicious and fresh sushi I felt like I was just amongst great friends/family members. Congratulation Sugarfish by Nozawa Santa Monica on selecting such a fantastic team of people who can take your dining experience to the next level. Cannot wait to be back!
I've been going here for a while.
Such great food poorly handled by customer service. Saved alone by the one Asian kid with great prince Disney hair. Wouldn't be surprised if the waiter turnover is high here. Charged for drinks while waiting over an hour to be seated, tho the party next to me was not. Being seated after people come after me and served after people sitting after me at the bar. Almost feel like I want to sit here at the bar writing this negative review just to take up more space. Served warm water after my workout. Had to ask for the water btw. Also ordered toro tasting and trust me, with salmon missing. Reminded the waiter and attitude given instead of I'm sorry for forgetting. Seriously fuck this experience and one of my fav spots in SanMo ruined. Would have loved to tip twenty percent if the job was done well but sixteen percent is included with the check. At least the food was good? The bar was empty at one point while I was sitting up here. Poorly managed.
This place is a lot of bang for your buck.
Decided to reward ourselves after a weak 3.5 mile hike on the Los Liones Canyon hike...we really didn't deserve it since we decided to hit the Parker Mesa Overlook and head to lunch haha. But regardless, it was nice stopping by and not having to wait more than 5 minutes at 1:30/2PM on a Sunday. Despite dressed in a bunch of hiking clothes, we were able to be seated relatively quickly once everyone arrived after looking for parking. Feeling like we were starved, the three gentlemen went with Don't Think, Just Eat. Trust Me while the two ladies settled with The Nozawa Trust Me option. All I can say is the food here is bussin'. Fish were high quality and the portions were generous. Washed it all down wonderfully with a Sapporo Reserve and walked out extremely content. In fact, I felt like that may have been slightly too much food for me but totally worth it!
I grew up on the east coast, I now live in the Midwest.
There is NO GOOD SUSHI IN THE MIDWEST. So when I have the opportunity to eat proper sushi, I MAKE SURE I GET PROPER SUSHI. SUGARFISH did not disappoint. I took yelp's suggestions and ordered "don't think. Just eat." It was the perfect amount of food for one person. I was just on the verge of regretting ordering too much food when the check came. Sadly there is no dessert menu. But really... you don't need it. But I have to talk about the actual food. The proteins were mouth-watering fresh, delicate, and perfectly apportioned. The salmon sashimi came with some kind of thin-ass seaweed sheet (it was not the thick green sheet that you're used to, it was almost translucent!) and toasted sesame seeds that resulted in the most well-balanced flavors for a sweet meat like salmon that I've ever had. Honestly, I'm going to be dreaming of that salmon sashimi. My palate is forever ruined. Also, SINCE WHEN DOES SHRIMP HAVE A CREAMY TEXTURE?!?!?! Delicious. Apparently some folks are put off by the rice being warm? At least that's what my server said. But to me, it's a signal that literally everything is coming fresh from the kitchen SO ENJOY IT. I had just enough ginger that I could have a piece in between each individual piece of sashimi or hand roll course. I'm used to dunking my sushi in soy and wasabi; I barely used it here because everything was so frikin fresh and some courses came with seasonings (so why mess with a good thing?). For a Sunday night, the place was crowded (good sign). I managed to be seated at the bar immediately because I was eating by myself. I had a great view of the kitchen, and everyone was working their station like a well-oiled machine. Just, solid fresh sushi for the price. If im ever in town again, Im making my midwestern-ass husband take me here after he gets his in-n-out fix; I'd rather save my appetite for amazing sushi.
Such a relaxing environment, great for dates.
All of the food and sushi was so fresh and delicious. Portions are not large but just right. Host seems to be very busy on their own but managed very well and was kind and professional. The only thing I didn't love was how close the tables were to one another. I had to really scoot between the tables and walk on my tip toes so that my butt didn't hit anything haha. It was a bit awkward. I would come back again!
Spectacular Sushi.
The sushi is some of the best I have ever eaten - fresh, innovative and beautiful. The “fixed menu” was well worth it - providing a nice mix of sashimi, sushi and rolls. Absolutely worth it.
They were not dog friendly at all not a good experience.
That's all. The whole time they gave me hard time about my dog. Not recommended.
Worth it!!!!
This reviews for Sugarfish were spot on! the sushi an sashimi were fresh and amazing. we can't wait to return. Some of my my friends are back to Santa Monica JUST for Sugarfish!
No wait for a table.
Quick service. And no lie, the best raw fish I have had in my entire life. People are always throwing out the word connoisseur. I used to think I was a sushi connoisseur. That is until I went to Sugarfish for the first time. It completely changed my sushi paradigm. Completely and utterly turned my sushi world upside down! We arrived on a whim, and decided to grab a seat. The server arrived almost immediately and recommended some great items for sharing. We of course wanted to sample everything so we ordered the Nozawa Trust Me. They even accommodated us by offering some of the hand rolls as cut rolls so we could share even more. The flavor of the fish, the texture, the freshness. It opened my world to a new reality of sushi greatness! I will return, and am happy to learn that there are so many locations all around LA. I even forgot my water bottle there, and it was right there waiting for me later that day when I returned for it. Great staff, great ambiance, great food. Sugarfish!!!
Great place to eat!
We tried the omakase! Everything was delicious, the fish was so fresh. Great experience overall. Wish they had a dessert menu.
Come hungry!
I had my first omakase experience at Sugarfish and it was amazing! I got to try so many high quality fish and you can tell the chef puts a lot of care into every dish he sends out. It’s a literal hole in the wall that I actually couldn’t find at first. We were able to walk in and be seated within 45 minutes and service was quick despite a full house. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in Santa Monica.
No Great Shakes
Sugarfish is a pleasant place to dine. The staff is friendly, the service quick. But top-tier sushi it is not. The rice doesn’t stick together, meaning that every time you pick up a piece of nigiri it falls apart. Despite the fact we ordered the most expensive set menu, the “Don’t think. Just eat. Trust me,” we got only seafood served at any neighborhood sushi bar – tuna, salmon, hamachi, unagi. All the seafood tasted bland, as if out of the freezer. Sorry, but given Sugarfish’s high ranking on TripAdvisor, we were disappointed.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
