Omakase
The omakase experience was very fun! They really do try to get you in and out within the time frame, and reservations are a must. This is not a traditional omakase experience - for one, it's marketed as a sushi speakeasy, although it isn't difficult to locate once within the hotel and the decor is heavily influenced by hip-hop. However, while the sushi rice, fish meat, and service were great, I was a bit confused by some of the pairings served with the sushi. Also, the wasabi quality left much to desire - it was strangely grainy and very generously applied to some sushi pieces. The atmosphere is also heavily influenced by the group you are dining with, so keep in mind if you do visit.

A MUST DO OMAKASE EXPERIENCE!!! Sushi By Bou has really perfected the art of creating an experience around sushi! The attention to detail, trendy decor, and lively hip hop music makes a night that you can't forget! A perfect date night or fun dinner with friends! Very reasonably priced and blew my expectations out of the water!

Huge fan of Sushi by Bou and so glad this location recently re opened. I stopped by for their $50 omakase with some friends. We had the Big mac hand roll, omakase, ginger high ball drinks and some Kirin beer. If you come here expect to be prompt and eat at their pace. You should be in/out right around the 40 minute mark tops. I definitely enjoyed the hamachi, bincho, hotate and the toro. Everything was fresh and buttery. The chef prepares everything in front of you which provides a great visual experience.
I like this location a little more than the Time Square one that I've been to as they do feature a bar in the back. Great spot to get some cocktails before dining. The dining area itself is fairly small. They do have partitions between parties and sanitizer at the tables as well. The entire staff were wearing masks and gloves. Highly recommend this location if you want a quick omakase experience. The staff is really friendly and knowledgable about sushi and the drinks. Its best to book way in advance as the seats tend to fill up quickly

This was my first ever omakase and I must say that it was an unforgettable and enjoyable experience. Suite 1001 is unique and intimate. It is a “hidden” 4 seat omakase sushi bar located inside a hotel suite of hotel 3232; truly an experience unlike any other. 60 minutes consisting of 17-courses of top quality sushi flown in over night from countries such New Zealand and japan, all for $100 is a very good bargain in regards to quality. Mike was our sushi “artist” and he was very engaged with my party and offered us insight into the different types of fish and even had conversations with us - thanks for the laughters and sushi!
The staff were all great and accommodated my party with a warm welcome and spot on drink selections. Another highlight of the place is the outdoor drinking/seating area that could be enjoyed before or after your omakase experience; they offer a great selection of libations: sake, beer, whiskey.....
The atmosphere and design of the place was very clean and modern. Great place. 10/10

30 minutes Omakase experience
Sushi by Bou only accepts reservation due to limited 8-10 seats served by 2 chefs. The ambiance was relaxing and the decor was like a bar with graffiti and hip hop theme on the wall.
We had 2 Omakase sets of 12 sushi and they needed to be finished in 30 minutes. However, it took us about 45 minutes to finish 12 pieces of sushi and the chef would observe the dining situation of each customer, they didn't ask us to eat in hurry, which was good.
The chef was friendly, knowledgeable and introduced each sushi, origin of ingredients and what's the best way to enjoy these sushi.
All 12 pieces of sushi were remarkably delicious and addictive. The seafood & Wagyu beef were fresh, melted in the mouth and matched with the spices or sauce; the vinegar flavored rice was cooked properly. Our favorites were Toro, Wagyuni and Unagi.
My friends recommended us to order their signature sushi "Big Mac" which made with Wagyu beef, uni, scallop and toro but we didn't since we were full already.
They also have free sake if you send the text message "Bou" to 44622.
Great price point and great quality
We made a reservation for two for a Friday evening at 6:30 about two days prior, via Yelp. This particular Sushi by Bou is located inside of Hotel 32. The sushi bar seats 8 people, and you have 30 minutes for a 12-piece omakase. This was my first time trying Sushi by Bou and it was a nice experience. It is not your typical affordable omakase place, with the simplistic Japanese style. Instead, it has a grittier feel to it. It almost feels like you’re at a club. Hip hop music playing in the background, and a mural of Biggie to your right.
I like that they display the menu and actually go in that order. That way, you know exactly what you’re eating, what’s coming up, and how many pieces you have left. The pieces were hamachi, lean tuna, Chu-toro, botan ebi, ikura, albacore, scallop, uni, fatty tuna, salmon, wagyu with uni, and unagi. My top four were the seared albacore, scallop, fatty tuna (of course), and the wagyu with uni. I normally don’t like ikura or eel, but even those weren’t terrible. I wish they didn’t finish with the eel though. I probably would have picked the surf and turf for the grand finale.
We decided to try the Big Mac ($18), which was wagyu, uni, scallop, and fatty tuna. In theory, this sounds amazing. All of the best pieces, together. But everything kind of got lost in translation. The texture of the scallop was there, but the uni overpowered everything. Which was a shame, because the wagyu and fatty toro had very nice flavors, but they ended up being masked.
Overall, the pieces are not very innovative. Yuzu on salmon was as adventurous as they got. I like yuzu and I love salmon, but something about this didn’t do it for me. But the quality of the ingredients definitely made up for it. If you’re looking for a standard omakase, you really can’t beat Sushi By Bou, especially at its price point.
It was a fun dinner
I enjoyed the dinner even though I found it very difficult understanding the chefs explanation of the food. 17 courses and still needed to eat afterwards. The staff were fun and friendly. I wouldn't list it as the best omakase but if you have the money it's a fun night out.
Be the first to ReplyA neat spot!
Sushi by Bou is located inside a hotel room and it's so neat! The decor is very street style (with graffiti on the walls). The room is small and only seats a small number of people. The experience is so worth it! The chef is fun and the sushi is unique and delicious!! Afterwards, have a drink at Lost Hours, their hidden cocktail lounge. The menu is all based off of the elements...it's quite interesting (and tasty)!
Be the first to ReplyQuick and cheap in the lobby...
Apparently there are 2 different spots in the hotel the inexpensive and the boujee one. This review is on the 30 min for $50 review. Reminds me of a hype sugarfish.
Food - 4
Sushi was fresh and simple. Stick with what’s on the omakase menu if you are going to add anything after the meal. The other fish off menu was a little old and fishy. Otherwise the selection was simple and tasty. If you are looking for a quick simple meal that won’t fill your belly come here.
Service - 4
Not much to the service here. Seat you and serve you. The host will seat you and a “waiter” will get booze for you. Sushi chef does the rest.
Atmosphere - 4
A sushi bar with a hype vibe for the millennials. It pushes out the stuffy old school vibe of a traditional omakase sushi bar.
Will return for a quick sushi fix for a inexpensive meal.
Good value
Been to 3 of the Sushi By Bou locations now. Love the concept. The menu stays relatively consistent with a few new a la carte specials popping up here and there. Each chef has his/her own style. In terms of the venue, I do like the hotel location at NoMad more than the others. Seems brighter, cleaner, easier to get to, and a nicer waiting area.
Be the first to ReplyThe value isn't bad but half the meal is relatively pedestrian
If you are new to sushi or omkase, this will likely be a good choice, but if you've been eating sushi for years and enjoyed some brilliant omkase evenings, you can skip this.
i have to admit to being put off when we sat down and I saw that at least six of the courses were already pre-cut.
the one reason i can think of to go is the "tuna flight" which consists of four pieces from different parts of the same fish.
Simply unlike ANYTHING else
Gotta say ... there was a lot of hype bout this secret sushi place, but, definitely lives up to the fun. Its one of those places you go "wow... this is like something Stephan from SNL would mention, but, you know, real" ... so very random, so very NY, and really so very good. The sushi is top quality, the service and ambiance, albeit in a small hotel room, is lavish and delightful, and Chef David Bouhadana is really the main course, such a fun dude, who's love for his craft comes pouring out. If you get the chance, definitely go - there's nothing else like it out there.
If you wanna read more about it, see some video or pictures, I did a full write up about it on my food blog Cineclast. Just google Cineclast bou.
