5/5 by 👻 @Marlyn L. on 07/22/2024

Been here for a la carte sushi and also the omakase which I always have enjoyed. It's SO good. I love the miso grilled fish and the omakase is a great selection. I do think that it's a bit more pricier than Shiros and very similar to the point where I'd probably prefer to go to shiros for omakase but I'd go to kashiba just for the nigiri and other plates.

We ordered omakase and they served us a very detailed course. The service was good and they gave us a description of each course they brought out. The omakase was unique and was so good! The view from inside the restaurant was amazing and you can see the Ferris wheel. The inside of the restaurant was clean and had comfortable seating.

5/5 by 👻 @Niaz P. on 07/15/2024

Did the omakase experience here and I loved it! It ended up being 14 pieces of nigiri plus some extras. We didn't sit at the bar but it was still great nonetheless. The service was great and the staff was very knowledgeable. Upscale vibes inside. This is everything we had: Salmon albacore blue fin tuna from Spain sashimi - albacore was my favorite of the bunch Seaweed konbu - I loved the konbu Strawberries - a nice contrast Toro handroll - very fresh and tasty Albacore - same albacore from earlier Blue fin tuna - same tuna from earlier, not my fave tuna Toro - delicious Sea bream - super flavorful Flounder - also very strong Tamago dobu in a dashi broth- broth was so good Salmon - yum! Sockeye salmon - probably most disappointing of the menu Sweet Shrimp - this was my favorite! Blue fin tuna - ok tuna Seared tuna- probably best seared I had, not typically a fan of seared Kanpachi - yummy Almost snapper - didn't catch exactly what this was but chewy Umi - very solid piece Scallop - ok for scallop Sushi donut eel - unique and delicious Tamago - one of the best I've had Miso soup - a great end to the meal

the most extraordinary sushi you will ever eat

5/5 by 👻 @Laura K on 07/08/2024

If you can afford it, you will never have better sushi than what is served at Sushi Kashiba. We couldn't get reservations (we were only in town for a few days, and didn't plan that far ahead), so we followed advice we found online -- arrived at 3:45 and waited for a spot for omakase at the chef's counter. The sushi was out of this world. Truly spectacular. There was also A LOT of it. I had to give my last few pieces to my partner. The service was impeccable. Was it worth it? That depends on how much money you have and how you like to spend it. An absolutely amazing food experience.

It's an experience and it is expensive, but honestly amazing. I don't even like sushi (probably because I never get good sushi) but my husband does. We both did the tasting menu and honestly it was incredible I ate every bite except for one. There is a 20% service fee that they didn't tell you about which I do find to be frustrating sometimes. But if I'm ever back in Seattle I would definitely come back.

2/5 by 👻 @Will V. on 06/28/2024

Portion, Selection and the Itamae's descriptions were all disappointing. When we go to a sushi restaurant, we are looking for Umami, freshness, subtlety and textural contrast, but we only found bits and pieces of each. We both felt that about 25% of our meal was of value. The rest felt meretricious. We expected this place to be genuine, but felt it was just a fancy tourist trap. Our servers were doing their best, but it felt as if they were following strict rules pushed down by their Sushi Master (no pun intended)

Excellent Dinner

5/5 by 👻 @Jeff K on 06/27/2024

My wife and I lucked out and got a reservation for 7:15 on the same day. We had the option of eating at the counter or at a table. We were tempted to do the omakase dinner at the counter but opted for a table as we wanted to order a few hot dishes. They offer a nice variety of cold and hot dishes. My wife and I shared black cod, rex sole, geoduck and several pieces of sushi. Everything was excellent as was the service. Prices are fairly high. We paid $400 for dinner and two drinks each. Note that Google Maps has a bad location for the restaurant but gets you close. Highly recommended.

Overall impression -- Aspirational fine dining that misses

1/5 by 👻 @S M. on 06/22/2024

Overall impression -- Aspirational fine dining that misses the mark in multiple ways. Not recommended for an intimate date, where you want the intimacy to be with your own date and not with the other patrons there. Ambiance -- We reserved a table same day for a date night, and ended up going on that date with two other couples sitting on adjacent tables. The tables were placed so close together that we could clearly hear every conversation the other couples were having. When the waitstaff came to the adjacent table, his derriere was up over our table inches from us. Too close for comfort. Maybe there are better tables elsewhere than the one we were seated at. This was the biggest negative for me, and set the mood all wrong from the start. Food -- kinda less than what you'd expect for the price, nothing terrible, but also nothing memorable. Coming from the Bay Area, I'm spoiled for great Japanese, great sushi, and great omakase and I found this to be underwhelming. Surprised that their menu had no sashimi platter. When I asked about ordering either Omakase or Peak but without having to consume rice/carbs with every piece, it seemed like they were not ready to accommodate that easily. We ended up ordering the black cod and a modified "omakase" because that is the only way they were willing to bring out a sashimi selection -- and it was really just a simple platter, nothing else, not even the miso and tamago advertised as part of their Omakase. So that turned into a very high priced sashimi platter. Service -- There was not much involved there, since we got a sashimi platter delivered as a substitute for the Omakase, not needing to bring out several courses and explaining each course. I was trying out some of the sashimi using my plate that the black cod came on when the waitstaff tried to clear it away for me, that was weird and awkward.

Just GO. This was the highlight of our time in Seattle. In addition, it was our favorite dining experience on a 30-day anniversary trip! We did not have reservations, but were lucky enough to snag seats at the bar and Anthony was absolutely stellar! Not only was he an amazing bartender, but he took a lot of time to explain what we were eating and to suggest cocktails and wine to pair with our food. He was patient, funny, and so very kind to us. We went back two days later and he had a LIST of suggestions for us based on what we liked 2 days before! Excellence in both service and food is difficult to find, but Sushi Kashiba has it ALL!

Not as great an experience as the first time, perhaps because I decided to do a la carte instead of the Omakase or the Peak. Nigiri were excellent. Had the tempura which was great! No grated radish though, and when I asked for some, it was a teeny tiny bit!. How can you call it authentic if not with daikon??? Maki was so-so. Fillings were great, but the sushi rice felt like regular rice and was falling apart despite being gluey.

5/5 by 👻 @Maxine L. on 03/08/2024

Kashiba is hands-down my favorite sushi restaurant in the US. The vibe of the restaurant is pretty intimate, and the omakase experience is everything. We had a reservation for dinner on a Thursday night, the place was pretty busy as usual. We were welcomed and seated pretty quickly. The hostess even provided a little bag hook for my purse There were 7 total "courses" in the omakase. Servers would provide descriptions for each dish along with recommendations on what to eat first/how to enjoy it best etc. The omakase included a set of amuse-bouche, a handroll, a wide variety of nigiri, agedashi tofu, and soup a tamagoyaki at the end. All the fish is super fresh and tender. I love the fact that each piece comes already dressed with wasabi and soy sauce, so there's no need to dip anything before eating. I also always enjoy the other little finishes that the chef includes, like marinating, topping with fresh wasabi, adding shiso, drizzling with citrus, etc. all the extra flavors really elevated each piece while still letting the quality of each fish shine. With the amazing food, there was amazing service to match. All the servers and hostesses were super gracious and helpful. Overall, amazing place!! Of course it is on the pricier side, but would definitely recommend. Spoil yourself, you deserve it LOL

5/5 by 👻 @Sandy N. on 02/29/2024

Sushi Kashiba is outstandingly fresh! I went here for my boyfriend and I's 3 year anniversary and we got omakase at the bar. We arrived several minutes earlier for our reservation at 7pm so we were waiting at the door to be seated. Our waiter asked if we wanted anything to drink before we were seated and my boyfriend got hot sake while I got a Ume-ricano. After a while we were seated and our omakase chef was Kohta. He was extremely polite and a cool chef and I'm glad we got to talk to him while he served us! We got the 21 course omakase and at the end of it I was pretty full. My favorite sushi that Chef Kohta made for us was the fatty tuna, it just melted in my mouth and I've honestly haven't had tuna that good. Other favorites were the geoduck, which was very crunchy and the uni/scallop. The uni was so fresh and juicy, like it came straight from the ocean. Sushi Kashiba was my first omakase experience and it was well worth it for the end total. (r.i.p our bank account) Definitely would come again! Kashiba really knows how to create an environment where you are comfortable and cozy while enjoying some of the expensive eats of the world!

Best. Dining. Experience. Ever! I came here for my 3rd

5/5 by 👻 @Nathan F. on 02/29/2024

Best. Dining. Experience. Ever! I came here for my 3rd anniversary with my girlfriend with a 7 pm reservation at the sushi bar. Since we've never had omasake before, we had somewhat high expectations coming into the restaurant, and boy, did it deliver. The staff was incredibly professional and courteous; they handled everything with a smile and great attention to detail! We were asked to order our drinks first before they walked us over to the sushi bar area. They sat us at the very end of the sushi bar, where not only we were able to see the sushi chefs preparing our food right in front of us but also the entire view of the restaurant! Our sushi chef was Kohta, a very kind gentleman who had been working at Sushi Kashiba for 20 years. In addition to preparing amazing food for us, he did not shy away from having a good conversation with us. We got along with Kohta really well! The entire 21-piece omakase experience lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes ($175 per person). It's very hard to choose which ones were my favorite because every piece served to us was incredibly tasty, Kohta even explained the kind of fish and where the fish was imported from. What stood out to me was the uni, because unlike other times I've had uni, the uni here was so juicy that it cleaned out my entire palette! The best part of our dining experience was when Kohta gave us barrel-aged sake on the house to congratulate us on our anniversary! That was an incredible gesture from him and I will never forget his kindness. The omakase experience at Sushi Kashiba is easily the best dining experience I've ever had and I cannot wait to come back soon!

4.5*. Nicely situated with the courtyard at the Inn.

4.5*. Nicely situated with the courtyard at the Inn. Surprising airy and upscale space. Minus half star because not forthcoming w sushi menu and while all the fish is super fresh, not all fish will appeal to all palates. Wife and I had the Omakase which is a LOT of food. The champagne and pinot noir paired very well with the meal--thanks to our waiter for the assist. Our waiter was very descriptive , helpful and critical to eating things in the correct order. The first course consisted of sashimi x3, mushroom cap w salmon/egg pate (much better than it sounds and very creative), and scallop w green onions. Next was an amazingly flavored simple toro hand roll. Followed by many different types of sushi--all fresh but not necessarily all in my flavor house (not a geoduck, sea bream or japanese scallop fan). The steamed egg w king crab in dashi was fantastic and nice change of texture and temperature. The miso and sweet tamago served w sake was a nice finish to the dinner. The Peak menu is a slightly less expensive tasting menu without the exotic cuts of fish. Those dishes looked really tasty also (our surrounding tables enjoyed that option). Definitely worth the money and probably the hype but would not repeat the Omakase strictly because not all fish worked with my taste buds.

2/5 by 👻 @Chase L. on 02/18/2024

I was pretty disappointed with Sushi Kashiba's food given the almost $400 price tag for two people (without drinks). I'm sure the fish was very high quality but a lot of it tasted bland. Some of the choices, like the clam nigiri, were questionable and challenging to finish. I probably enjoyed two thirds of the nigiri we were served, but nothing blew me away compared to what I've had at much less expensive restaurants. And compared to my favorite high end omakase places, Sushi Kashiba fell short. I'm leaving two stars because the service was very attentive and the ambience was nice.

We wanted to try some great sushi while were were visiting Seattle for Christmas and we chose Sushi Kashiba because of the great reviews we had been seeing. They were right. It was a wonderful dinner. We chose the omakase experience at our table (rather than the chef counter). It was 7 courses. The waiter told another table that there were 15 pieces (all the courses except one had multiple items). But our count was more like 22. The 15 may have been just nigiri. It was really delicious sushi and and genuinely memorable experience. I am very happy the we did it.

Excellent Sushi Experience; Costly

4/5 by 👻 @Craig W on 11/06/2023

The wife and I enjoy our sushi. We have been wanting to try Sushi Kashiba for quite some time. I made reservations nearly two months in advance and would have forgotten about this dinner if not for the reminder. We had seven courses of the finest sushi experience either of us has ever had. I cannot tell you everything we ate, but it was all exquisite, perfectly crafted, and delectably filling. We enjoyed our waiter. His patience, enthusiasm, and attention were first class. We thoroughly appreciated our dinner. We each chose the Omakase, which we knew was $150 each. Two beers and a cocktail were $43. Final soup course was $36. 20% Service Fee equaled $75. Tax on the bill took dinner to $501. I really do appreciate an excellent dining experience and this is certainly one of those. I absolutely despise a mandatory service fee. Our waiter told us the service fee would be on the bill before bringing it to us. Nevertheless, it taints my overall experience and will keep me from visiting more.

Four and a half-stars for the amazing meal at this establishment...unbelievably good and a must-do if you can get a seat at the sushi bar or a hard-to-come-by reservation in the dining room. While we weren't lucky enough to enjoy the omakase experience at the bar, I can write that the hot and cold a-la carte offerings were outstanding. Everything we ordered was excellent but some of our favorites included: the sashimi poke, the rex sole, the black cod and what might be one of my favorite dishes ever, the sauteed geoduck. Heck, even the tempura was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Sushi Kashiba is one of those rare 'can't miss when you're in town' places.

Experience don’t just eat sushi

Sihiro knows sushi. As the the father of sushi in Seattle, Shiro’s restaurant Sushi Kashiba share’s the genuine experience with Seattleites and its visitors. Enjoying the finest sushi is not only about fresh fish… it is about all of the little details which ensure the perfect sushi dining experience. It begins with service. Not only was our waiter highly detailed knowledge about the fish Kashiba serves, there was an army of other staff present at a moment’s notice to assist you with more water, hot tea, spilled soy sauce (my elderly mom had an accident… more on her shoulders need later 😉), and removing dishes when you’re really done. A sushi chef came out to our table to present what each nigiri was and our waitress would always swing by our table soon after to check if we had any additional questions or needs. And we had plenty more need for additional nigiri. Like the amazing fresh medai they featured that evening. It was so juicy and sweet. Of course, they had my main sushi staples, Chu-toro (buttery smooth), O-toro, sawara, kanpachi, and one of my new favorites, Kama-toro. I will have to forgive their not having one of my other favorites, Kamasu, since it is seasonal. Not only was the nigiri prepared with the perfect amount of rice (very small balls), each piece was seasoned perfectly so no soy sauce required… unless you are like my mom and add shoyu to everything. 😝 And I almost forgot to recommend the non-sushi dish we had, Kashiba glazed black cod, marinated in miso & saké. My mouth is still watering. Seattleites and its visitors have the perfect opportunity to experience, not just eat sushi as Sushi Kashiba.

This sushi is life-changing.

5/5 by 👻 @JP W. on 03/08/2023

I go here every year for my birthday and every time I leave in amazement.I got to sit at the sushi counter on my most recent visit, which was a fun experience. The chef's name was John and he was friendly, informative, and clearly very skilled. I didn't get any photos because I didn't want to take away from the experience. The restaurant atmosphere is simple. Somewhat dim. The restaurant can be pretty active. Lots of servers and chefs making their way around the place. The omakase is quite the journey. It's different every time, but this time it included hand rolls, many pieces of nigiri featuring uni, scallop, unagi, and various types of fish with different textures, fat content, and preparation. We also got a few soups along the way and ended with a dessert. It sounds simple, but what's amazing about this food is in the details. The textures, the subtle flavors, the contrasts between each dish. They take such simple ingredients and make them astonishing. I don't know how they do it.I always look forward to my next visit to Sushi Kashiba.

We came here on a Sunday night for their omashake and was seated right away at the bar for 5. One of the members of our crew is allergic to sea fish so this was perfect since she was able to order off the menu at the menu. Our bartender was very friend and knowledgeable! All the nigiri's were delicious and fresh! Well without worth the money and we left full!

4/5 by 👻 @Amanda S. on 02/25/2023

Solid sushi spot but definitely get the bar seating if you can. My husband and I went there before opening to line up for a walk-in reservation -- it was 5pm and were told to come back at 7:30pm for the table seating or 9pm for bar. We were visiting Seattle so didn't have the time to wait 4 hours for bar seating so we opted in for the table. This place is packed and they have so many workers that keep this place running smoothly. I caught a glimpse of the owner/chef and really wish we got to sit with him but didn't get to. The order of fish to eat were different than most spots as I usually ramp up to the heavier tasting fish at the end but we had salmon. The omakase didn't include uni, Kinmedai, or wagyu -- which sucked so we added some as a supplement. Uni and tofu were delicious and prob my favorite pieces of the night. Everything's was fresh and not drowned in sauce, which I appreciated. Can't imagine how much better it would've been at the bar though. Overall, solid spot but the wait is a little insane.

First time experiencing omakase and it was so wonderful

5/5 by 👻 @Judi W. on 02/22/2023

First time experiencing omakase and it was so wonderful :)My bf and I got there at about 4pm to get the chef's counter for 5pm. Honestly not too bad of a wait if you're wanting to experience the sushi bar/chef counter. The sushi bar is only omakase. Food was phenomenal. It really brought a different perspective to eating food. It showed me a different type of art when it comes to food. Everything that the chef served was unique and paired well together. I've often heard from others that omakase doesn't fill you up but it was actually a lot of food and the pacing helps with being full. Although definitely on the higher price, it was such a lovely experience and the service is phenomenal. Best I've experienced.

4/5 by 👻 @Dan A. on 02/19/2023

I went into the eponymous Sushi Kashiba, named after its head sushi chef Shiro Kashiba who trained under the famed Jiro Ono (Jiro Dreams of Sushi), with high expectations. I was a bit torn on my impression of this place. I felt that overall the omakase didn't quite meet my expectations when compared to other omakase places I've been to in the US and Japan. However, for the price of the dining room omakase ($140) with 15 pieces of nigiri, 3 piece sashimi, negitoro hand roll, a few kaiseki style bites, and the finale of miso soup and tamago, it was a rather good deal in terms of high end fish/sushi to price ratio. The service was also timely, friendly, informative, and professional. The okakase overall was heavy on tuna, salmon, and crab. I say heavy in a slightly ironic sense, as the fish overall trended on the lighter end, without any saba, aji, uni, or other "heavier" staples. Even the toro they served felt closer to chutoro than otoro. Perhaps there was no fresh fish of that sort that was felt suitable for the night, but I noticed several types of mackerel were there on the a la carte menu.I will say every piece of tuna, and it was a third of everything served that night, was solid. They definitely know how to present tuna and bring out its best qualities. A few non-tuna standouts included the amaebi (sweet shrimp) served with its head which was nicely crispy and tasty, and the unagi, for which the eel sauce was well balanced and went well with the fish. Crab was incorporated into multiple dishes and served alone, all of which I thought was underwhelming. But I also think crab is one of the most overrated seafoods, and it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to crab. Everything overall felt very safe. Nothing too adventurous, very standard, which I'm sure some people will find to be to their preference. The ending was nice but underwhelming. The miso soup was tasty, not too salty, and soothing as a nice way to wind down the meal. The tamago of course had crab in it and was fine. The meal overall felt like it didn't have a buildup to a climax or a solid finisher. There were many chefs at the counter, and sitting at a table, it would be hard to say who prepared the various parts of my meal. I did feel the presentation could be a bit neater in some places. The servers did a pretty good job introducing the parts of each plate, although whenever getting 4-6 pieces at once as usual for table omakase it's always harder to remember the fine details of each piece - in terms of where it came from and the garnishes used - as you eat it. I felt the pacing could be slightly better as well, which I'm sure it was at the counter. In the end, if I went again, I would make sure to go for the chef's counter omakase (which I believe was listed at $175 at the door that night), or even order a la carte off their sushi menu. The first come first serve line for the chef's counter was shorter than I expected for a Saturday based on what I read online, but who knows how long they were standing in line before opening time, and not everyone got in. I also got to try the geoduck and the Shiro's take on the famous Nobu miso marinated black cod from the hot menu. It was my first time trying geoduck and was rather tasty. It was sautéed in butter and served with mushroom and asparagus, with a lemon slice on the side. The taste and texture were somewhere between standard clams and fried intestines - chewy but not too chewy. Savory and briny but not fishy. The black cod (which is a misnomer and not actually cod) was very good but not the best take on Nobu's dish that I've had. Sweet, savory, nice texture. The garnish wasn't described but I believe there was a half piece of kinkan (kumquat) that was delicious on its own. My server for the night was knowledgeable about the sake menu, which was appreciated, and I'm sure it helps to sell a lot more sake. Overall, this place gets a 3.5* from me, but entered as a 4 rather than 3 due to the good service and value provided.

5/5 by 👻 @Andii S. on 02/17/2023

Come early for a seat at the sushi bar! It's worth it to have that extra layer of luxury for this already elevated dining experience. One of the more pricey omakase I've had but completely worth it. I used to try and eat here once a quarter bc it was just that dang good. The quality is so fresh and top notch that this is one of those omakase experiences where you don't have to think twice about any cut of seafood they prepare for you. Even things I normally don't enjoy like raw shrimp and clam varieties are mouth watering. Their uni, my favorite, is always my highlight, followed by the fatty tuna of course. Lastly, the service is impeccable. Go on head and try this legendary place out!!

Top top tier sushi at Omakase with chef Kohta

5/5 by 👻 @Drew W on 01/14/2023

We celebrated an early Valentine's Day with omakase at Sushi Kashiba. It was perfect for what we were looking for -- intimate and relaxed environment with amazing food and friendly service. Our sushi chef Kohta was fantastic. Super attentive, knowledgeable, personable, entertaining, and most of all was making some of the best sushi we've ever had! We appreciated the information about how the menu may change seasonally, which fish are in season and when, where the fish come from and what the Pacific Northwest is known for in particular (like the geoduck!). Our favorites were... gosh it's hard to say, really everything was great. Geoduck, scallops, salmon... nearly each piece could be considered a favorite. The garnish on the white fish stood out to balance the mellow flavor. The rest of the staff also friendly and fun. The experience was lovely, and no issues whatsoever. We'd highly recommend. To note: We had previously tried to get an omakase seating over summer on a Friday. We arrive 45 minutes before opening, but this was not early enough! This time, it was a winter night, and a Thursday -- both of which worked in our favor. We arrived 45 minutes early and we were second in line! The omakase counter was full in the end, but 45 minutes early was plenty of time. Think of an activity for when you stand on line ahead of time and it breezes right by ;) The area is covered and well organized, so if it's raining you won't get wet. Bill for 2 for Omakase was $465.

since we were staying at the Inn at Market across the courtyard we, by chance, got a table at Kashiba. Best sushi we ever had. Super knowledgeable staff, very nice atmosphere. But the sushi outshines it all. Melt in your mouth fish, unusual cuts, beautiful presentation. Not cheap but totally worth it!
