You will not regret this place. I guarantee it.
We have been here two dozen times over the last 10 years, and we have never had a single bad dish, bad service, or bad time. Hands down my favorite restaurant in DC, all around. Also, the sushi is fresh and *fantastic*. Do not question coming here. You will not regret it.
Be the first to ReplyGood & expensive food, efficient service.
The food is amazing. It is pricy indeed! sashimi is fresh and agedashi tofu dish is delicious. Service is efficient, but I feel the waiters and waitresses are really indifferent. They are not even friendly, maybe because I look poor, come by myself and didnโt make reservation. It makes me feel a little weird. Anyway, I came to Washington DC for my business trip. I had this great opportunity to enjoy some authentic Japanese food by myself without chasing my little kids :) it is a quiet and enjoyable meal.
Be the first to ReplyOnly if you eat very quickly
The food was superb, even after many visits to Thailand we were surprised about the originality of the plates. The service was very friendly and helpful but thenโฆ..suddenly the girl if the reservation came to our table commanding that we only had a few minutes to leave because another group was about to arrive. We explained that we were waiting for our desserts. Very irritated she went to our waiter and all of the sudden, there was our check. How to destroy a beautiful evening. Of course we will never come back in a restaurant were weโre not welcome
Be the first to ReplySo rude I didn't stay to eat.
I didn't stay to eat so the food might be great but the service wasn't. I love Japanese food so was excited to go. Walked in, was told no tables were available, I could sit at the bar. I did but noticed a free table, so asked if I could sit there. Was told it wasn't free. I gently said that it seemed free, to be told brusquely, 'It's closed.' She didn't even look up. I sat at the bar, ignored, for a few minutes. Another customer arrived and was treated completely differently. I told them I've was leaving. They continued to ignore me. This is not Japanese service. I was appalled. Am in a different restaurant close by and have been treated like a human being!
Be the first to ReplyMichelin star sushi
I had some family in town for a wedding and they requested a Michelin star Japanese restaurant. Sushi taro did not disappoint. I made reservations in advance and highly recommend it. We ordered the sushi kaiseki with around 8 courses and the cold soba noodles. For the kaiseki courses we really enjoyed the fresh sashimi, tazmanian trout and the nigiri sushi. One of the salmon nigiri pieces came out wrapped in banana leaves. The trout dish was presented with a hot casserole with cabbage and miso butter. The butter was so rich and the trout was really buttery. None of us left a single bite of the trout. One of the later courses when you get to select which nigiri, I highly recommend the toro and otoro fish as you get the best value and we all agree those were our favs. You get hot soba noodles in one the 8 courses, but the cold house made soba noodles added some great flavor and texture. Save some room for dessert. We ordered all 4. The anmitsu and the roll cake were my favs. There was fluffy raspberry cream and the cake itself had some great matcha flavor.
Sushi taro sets the bar in the area. The aesthetics are great and you get a real private dining experience. If you want to celebrate an event or sushi splurge on authentic Japanese food this is your spot. The service here is great as the staff is really knowledgeable as whats in season and the finest cuts of fish.
Best Japanese / Sushi Restaurant in DC Area
We have been here a few times, most recently last week for my son't birthday, and it was as good as ever. We had a delicious bottle of sake, and ordered ala carte to each of our three tastes. Everything was beyond delicious. Definitely the best Japanese or sushi restaurant in this area.
Be the first to Replyomakase quality, not the price
We were only able to get reservations at 830, so they informed us that kaiseki and omakase were not available for our table. Reservations and communications were excellent. That said, the menu was fairly extensive. The cooked food portion was varied well and very fresh. Seasonal and even had something new that I didn't normally see in Japanese restaurants. The nigiri was Edo-style and te rice was flavored perfectly. Fish was seasoned right and molded correctly, at the right temp. Just like eating at the countertop.
Booths make a perfect foil for pandemic times.
Waitstaff was very attentive and food came out at good intervals.
Their Michelin star is well- earned. Even better is their price point compared to typical NYC joints. I ate so well!! We enjoyed the cherry blossoms in the Tidal Basin so this was like a the cherry on top.
Sushi therapy for the pandemic
We were absolutely gutted to learn Sushi Taro would be closing its dining room when then pandemic started, but were thrilled to discover they have reopened for pick-up! We have since ordered their sushi regularly and it always brightens up our stressful weeks. Terrific value for the quality!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Value for Michelin starred sushi
This place, especially at lunch offers great value for a Michelin starred meal! The service was friendly and efficient. Everything we ate was top notch!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Dinner
Excellent atmosphere and wonderful service. The food was was great if like sushi, but there isn't much for people who aren't fans of it.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Lunch -- Good Nigiri Sushi
We've been eating at Sushi Taro for many years and have never been disappointed with the quality of the fish and small dishes. Having lived in Japan for 6 years, we're very picky about sushi. From our point of view, Sushi Taro is the best and most reliable sushi--ya in D.C. Our only complaint is that the nori on the sushi rolls is a bit rubbery for the nigiri sushi set lunch. It's reasonably-priced if you go for lunch, although dinner is outstanding. Be sure to be there for lunch by 1:45 p.m. because they don't take guests after about 1:50 p.m. for lunch.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent sushi and surprisingly good prices
I ate at the bar and got there in time for happy hour so most of the sushi I ordered was 50% off. The quality of the food was amazing especially for the price. The bartender gave great service and recommended the perfect sake. I would definitely recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyYummy! Great sushi. Friendly
Yummy! Great sushi. Friendly staff, fast service. Recommend making a reservation. Menu does not offer much for non-sushi eaters. Had the fugu winter special and got to cross that Simpsons reference off my bucket list. Parties must be 4 or less. Would go back!
