Average restaurant - overpriced
I visited and in mind an image of a top notch Japanese restaurant . I was negatively surprised with the level of service, food display and ambiance which are just average. Food quality is generally a good. I had an Omakase dinner where We (a couple) paid +400 usd ! I was expecting more value for this money
Be the first to ReplyChirashi lunch special
If you are ever on the Westside and want a quiet dining experience during lunch, this is a good place to go. Located in Little Osaka on Sawtelle, this sushi spot has an $18 lunch special (limited quantities), including soup. Delicious, and filling.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, but super slow service
We went on an off time to avoid the crowd - it was Sat early afternoon, and not every table was occupied, but the service was still very slow. Food was good, but the time it took to come out makes us second guess another visit.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed
My husband and I arrived yesterday at 1:00 pm for lunch (lunch is through 2:30). All tables were full but it seemed like a few tables were already finishing up. We decided to wait for a table with the understanding that it could be quite some time. We waited for almost 30 minutes and a group left. We went inside and a waitress seated us. She apologized and said that they were very busy and that there was almost nothing left on the menu. We went through what was left (at most 5 options?!?!) We were very upset. We suggested that they should have told us prior to waiting. We will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyGood omakase, but overly expensive...not a great overall value
Sushi Tsujita is one of the highest-rated omakase experiences in Los Angeles, and so I wanted to try it for a special occasion to celebrate my wife's birthday. Overall the experience was good, not great, unique but exceedingly expensive for what it was and not as good as several other omakase experiences we have enjoyed in LA for considerably less money. Definitely call for a reservation...they only take reservations for dinner on the hour (6, 7, 8pm) and the place is tiny, but quaint and comfortable. Located on Sawtelle, surrounded by many other restaurants and many sushi restaurants...the decor is simple, minimal and elegant. Service was good...attentive, friendly and helpful, but disappointed that twice (ahead of time and at the restaurant) I informed them it was my wife's birthday and they did not do anything to celebrate or mention it (despite a $450+ total bill), including omakase, beer and a glass of sake. You have three choices for omakase (price point based and quantity of food and division between appetizers and pieces of sushi). Prices range from $125 to $200 per person. The quality and presentation of the food is excellent. Very good sushi, creative appetizers, unique tastes and presentations. We tasted totally different foods and textures that we never had before. The sushi was sourced from all over the world. Overall the value was questionable...while it was a unique experience, the service was good (not great) and the price was significantly higher than many other excellent omakase experiences we have enjoyed in LA...so it was a fun visit, but we will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced
I dropped by Sushi Tsujita for a b'ness lunch. Its located on Sawtelle near La Grange in the Japanese food enclave of Sawtelle. All 3 of us ordered the Chirashi Platinum ($45 | tuna, whitefish, toro, ikura, tobiko, silverfish, eel 2 pcs, clam, octopus, shrimp 2 pcs, uni & soup. The platinum is also supposed to come w/ chawanmushi. First of all, the soup was pretty good. It had a lot of seaweed and was more hearty vs the standard miso soup most places serve: 4 Stars. On the other hand, the chirashi was overpriced AF for the amount of fish you received. I would have expected to pay $30 tops for the quantity of fish. Additionally, the rice was hard in some spots. Nonetheless, the fish was fresh, and wasn't as big of a gyp vs Matsuhisa in BH: 2 Stars mainly due to price. Regarding the ambiance, its quaint in here. There is a sushi bar to your right as you enter, and tables on the perimeter. Japanese is primarily spoken by the staff. A big minus is the lack of parking in the area for such a busy district: 3 Stars. The service was friendly and attentive. In addition, the food came out fairly quickly. However, somebody fukd up bc we never received our chawanmushi! I was so busy talking b'ness, I forgot to remind the waitress. If you are gonna overcharge for the chirashi, the least you can do is give us all our food! Negative Stars for this mess up!!! There are better, and more reasonably priced sushi places in the area like Sushi Sasabune and Shunji. I'd rather go to SS and Shunji vs an overpriced place that doesn't give you all your food!!!
Be the first to ReplyYou haven't had sushi till you've dined (2 hours) at Tsujita.
You haven't had sushi till you've dined (2 hours) at Tsujita. Perfect flavors, gentle and discreet tastes that also explode with character, tang, etc. Your palate is gonna love you for this experience while your wallet will hate ya! Not cheap: omakase is $120, 150 or 180 per person. Don't drink so you can savor. Gotta have reservations. Casual and relaxed. Upscale but not pretentious. We sat in a booth and surprisingly glad for it. Booth allowed us to relax and talk excitedly about our meal. The wooden counter at the sushi bar kinda hides the chef/artist as they prepare dishes from the guests. It seemed to prevent conversations between chefs and eaters/guests. Tsujita takes flavors and makes them gently explode. Plated beautifully. Service perfect. Can't afford to be a regular---but I surely will return when I save up more money.

The best sushi restaurant that we have visited and we have been to many. The sushi is excellent, beautifully prepared and delicious. The service is warm and caring. May be the best sushi you can find outside japan. It's that good. Outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyBest of the best
Famous for their ramen bars, the owners of Tsujita have opened a traditional sushi restaurant which mirrors the ramen restaurants in terms of quality and service. While Los Angeles is the sushi capital of the U.S., Sushi Tsujita is destined to become the premier sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. The sushi is fresh, beautiful and innovative, while at the same time retaining a traditional focus. It is not full of sweet sauces and gimmicky garnishes. It is rather incredible fish well prepared and extremely good. The atmosphere is traditional modern Japanese and the service is excellent, attentive and warm. For lunch you can try a sashimi bowl, nigiri combo or omakase. For dinner, it's strictly omakase and it is extraordinary. It is not inexpensive, and you get the value of what you pay for. All in all, it is the best of the best.
