We live in the neighborhood and finally got around to
We live in the neighborhood and finally got around to trying S&S this weekend. We stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a movie at Alamo Drafthouse theater (across the street) and left very impressed! The interior is warm and welcoming (i thought it might be stuffy and pretentious having walked by a number of times) and the staff is SUPER friendly! Everyone from the host to bartender to bussers. For food I simply had the apple salad and soup (had to save room for popcorn!) and my partner had the burger. Everything was delicious but that butternut squash soup was amazing! A pleasant surprise was the happy hour offerings and the seasonal cocktail was delicious. Can't wait to come back and also try the brunch!
Be the first to ReplyI didn't expect this to be the same as the original
I didn't expect this to be the same as the original restaurant, but this fell significantly below my expectations. We live in the area and decided to do a last minute date night. The room they took us to upstairs was noticeably warmer than downstairs, and the table they sat us at was directly under a vent, and very uncomfortable. I wanted to order the chicken entrรฉe, but they were out. On a Friday night, the start of the weekend?! Especially for having a limited menu, there weren't many more options to choose from. The cocktails were decent, oysters too, and for dinner, we got the steak, Frites, steak salad, and a side of brussels sprouts. The Frites were cold, the steak, and the salad was extra chewy (but the salad itself was pretty good). The service in general was super slow. Not only until we were finishing up and nibbling at our last bites. Did our waitress come by and asked us every five minutes if we were still doing OK.Do NOT get the tiramisu. It came out immediately on a cold plate, and we had to figure out what was going on because the flat 3x3 inch square didn't resemble tiramisu. About 30% of what was there was the cake/Ladyfinger part, the rest was an overly sweetened cream covered with cocoa powder. If you want a better tiramisu, go down to Sapori, Trattoria or PR bistro. We also ordered decaf coffees, which took FOREVER to come out, and when they finally did our waitress didn't even ask if we wanted any cream or sugar. We requested cream which came out in a tiny plastic to go sauce cup. Unfortunately, this is what you would expect for trying out a nicer restaurant in Wrigleyville

We came for restaurant week and overall I'd say things were pretty average - good. We have been to the other Swift and Sons location so we were excited to try this one out! Inside is very welcoming and classy for Wrigley, and you can't beat its location if you're trying to go to Wrigley Field. We each got several dishes on the restaurant week menu including the Wisconsin cheese plate, French onion soup, duck rillettes, chicken breast, filet, butter cake, and grapefruit semifreddo. We also ordered a Mac and cheese side that never arrived but they easily took that off our bill. For the food the standout was the butter cake and Wisconsin cheese plate. Smaller portion size but very delicious! Our problem with the menu was that the portions felt a little inconsistent, and we saved up some room for entrees after quite a large second course, but the filet was the smallest portion of steak ever, which was really disappointing. I wouldn't be too upset about the inconsistent portions and good but not great food if the bill wasn't SO EXPENSIVE. I get this is a nicer restaurant, but we each had one drink along with our tasting menu and it was with tip over 100$ per person. For that price point I really would love more of a wow factor, and to not just have an okay meal. This isn't a restaurant I wouldn't try again, but I think for the ambiance, portions, price and value, and overall vibe I would recommend the Fulton Market location, which we've been to before and was absolutely impeccable!
Be the first to ReplyI'm so disappointed.
I was so excited to try Swift and Sons as it has been on my list for years. I am now regretting not just going to the one in the West Loop as I hear that's the one that's way better. We went to restaurant week and overall the food was not awesome. I kinda got discouraged and didn't take any photos. We found some of our food not exactly warm, over salted, or just meh. A special highlight for me was we ordered the fillet and I'm pretty sure it was blue with just the sear LITERALLY RAW. The cocktails were fine -they don't have espresso, but you can do a cold brew martini. Overall just not super awesome for the price. We also were sat in the back with children actually running around, YELLING. This was not worth navigating weekend Wrigleyville parking. I wouldn't come back to this location but may try the West Loop one in the future.
Be the first to ReplyCame for NYE with my husband.
Our mission was oysters and we got a dozen and these hit the spot. Perfect!!! Enjoyed the steak and fries (some of the BEST fries i have had), seasonal burrata (YUM!!), broccoli (undercooked/wish it had a char), and creme Brule (another big YUM!) Overall had a great meal and would come back.
Be the first to ReplyLove Swift and Sons Tavern! The happy hour oyster deal
Love Swift and Sons Tavern! The happy hour oyster deal during weekdays is what originally enticed me, and it has since become a regular date night for my partner and I. Every staff member is always kind and upbeat. The bartenders always have great suggestions. I have never been here and been disappointed. As restaurants are able to finally see some more staff and support since Covid, I suggest anyone who might be wary because of other reviews to give it a chance.

I've been to swift and sons about three times and have always loved the food! Especially the steak frites and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately this time it seemed very bland and most of the food came out burnt, not sure if they have changed cooks but it definitely wasn't worth the money. Had to send back a plate. A little disappointed in food quality and might not be worth the fifth visit. The service was good though! Always has been which is nice but just the food was a flop. Sorry swift and sons!
Be the first to ReplyWhen my friend suggested to me that we meet at Swift & Sons
When my friend suggested to me that we meet at Swift & Sons in Wrigleyville, I was excited because I love the Swift & Sons in Fulton Market/West Loop. Imagine my surprise when the food was HORRIBLE! I will NEVER go to that location again. The only good thing were the two drinks that I had. The food came out cold multiple times. The ham and cheese croquettes were so terrible I couldn't even finish one. I appreciate the manager for handling parts of our bill and our server was good, but I'll never return to that location.
Be the first to ReplyADDED FEES ON YOUR BILL!! please check your bill before
ADDED FEES ON YOUR BILL!! please check your bill before leaving. We had an early evening dinner there for a friends bday. We brought in a 6in cake from Sweet Mandy B's. They said there was a cake cutting fee, fine I get it. But when the bill came they charged a $45 fee for cutting the cake! that's right $45! more than what the cake cost, $5 per slice... no absolutely inappropriate. Then there is an extra $23 hospitality fee, when we inquired about that turns out it's a fee to help cover health insurance for employees.... what?!! never heard of this and isn't the 20% gratuity on the $805 bill going to the employees but now you want to secretly add a health coverage fee?? I pay my own health insurance and it's not my job to pay extra for that on a bill! COMPLETELY unacceptable. We spoke with manager and got it refunded after sone time of her telling us it was Boka's policy, but all I will say is never again. Just lost 8 customers in one setting plus the many more people I tell. Shame on you Swift and Sons. It's not ok to take advantage of your customers.
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped during a Cubs game and sat in the bar.
Not crowded at all. Maybe 1/4 of bar seats taken. Our bartender was friendly enough but after the 3 mistakes we were sort of done. Ask for napkins, ask for water, ask for food we'd ordered, ask for drinks...he kept saying "yes" but - literally- not delivering. We had plans to eat dinner there later in the week, but we made some changes. Convenient to the Cub's game but otherwise pretty lackluster.

Had amazing oysters here!! Definitely took advantage of their happy hour (4-6 everyday!) oysters were $1.50 and they had $4 pints!! Big fan :)

Swift & Son's is one of Wrigley's hidden gems! Even tho it's not hidden at all...sitting right outside the Marquee of Wrigley Field. We typically come here during cubs games...they offer $1.50 oysters from first pitch to last pitch of every home game... GREAT deal. The steak salad was amazing! Decent sized steak and extremely fresh vegetables- I ate the entire thing. You can't go wrong with the Dominican Daiquiri, so refreshing making it the perfect drink on a hot summer day. We come here often and will be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyI don't usually write reviews about service because I am
I don't usually write reviews about service because I am more focused on the food. This experience is an exception. I will say we have dined here in the past and always had a positive experience. Today was horrible and I doubt seriously we will return. Today we were celebrating three birthdays, including my 80 year old mother in law. Because today was my choice on where to go, I wanted to go for oysters and champagne. Normally that would be Swift & Sons in my mind. We were seated by a super nice guy (who is also celebrating his birthday this week) upstairs in their dining room. The bars up and down were packed because the cubs game was cancelled due to rain. We were literally the only ones seated in the upstairs dining room. Our waiter John finally appeared and we weren't quite ready. We told him we were celebrating birthdays. He asked who's birthday it was and we said it was all of our birthdays this week. He said nothing and left and didn't return for way too long. When he returned we gave him our order of a dozen oysters and a shrimp cocktail. He brought my glass of champagne and someone else brought our dozen oysters and my MIL her shrimp cocktail. The oysters weren't separated from the shell as usual (I've been here many times for oysters). When we again saw John he was seating a single woman near us. He then brought her a huge glass of the same rose champagne I ordered but was twice as full as my glass then he sat down with her. For a long time. Much longer than he spent worrying if we were ok or if we needed anything else. When he finally did come back my MIL asked for him to bring her the bill. It was $58 and she gave him $70 cash. He asked if she needed change (wait staff should never ask if you need change!) and she said yes. He took it and never came back so we left. I guess he decided he deserved that 20% tip which he did not. We live near Wrigley Field. We often go out for drinks with friends and neighbors. We used to add Swift & Sons into that rotation. Not any more. I will also be sharing my experience with other neighbors. Do yourself a favor. Mordecai is the spot for good oysters and cocktails and especially good service with friendly staff.
Be the first to ReplyAte here prior to a Cubs game and was hugely disappointed.
The stars are for the cocktails and proximity to the game. The service got so slow that we barely made it to the game on time despite a 515 reservation. The Oysters were extremely poorly shuck with lots of shell bits in them. They were delivered by a busser with no explanation as to which oysters were which. We waited for the server but they never stopped by until we gave up and ate them. The filet was overly salted and quite small. The steak sandwich was well liked and the fries were good. I gather that the Wrigley version is Swift & Sons "lite" as compared with the flagship in the west loop. Unfortunately the price tag is the same. It is expensive, but you know that going in. It just doesn't deliver.
Be the first to ReplyGot the raw oysters and they were really good.
Then had the steak salad. Cooked perfect for me but thought it was a little pricey vs the amount of steak ago. Appears to be only 4 oz
Be the first to ReplyTURMERIC LEMONDROP love this drink.
It's sweet but not overly sweet. I wish they've filled up my cup with more. The drink is only good for 3 sips for me. They also have different oysters that came from different places. Steak is okay. Love our server Marianne. If you're around. - ask for her. She's wonderful
Be the first to ReplyDecent restaurant in the area, right across from Wrigley
Decent restaurant in the area, right across from Wrigley Field. I was between the Shrimp Po Boy or the Fried Chicken Sandwich. The server recommended the chicken, and he did not steer me wrong. I had a bite of the Shrimp Po Boy, and while it was very generous with shrimp, the bread was thick, which made it seem a bit dry/would've liked more sauce. The fried chicken was so juicy and crunchy- I wish my stomach could've fit the entire sandwich! My bf had the Steak & Provolone Dip, and he seemed to like it, but he too could only eat half. Good spot for a quick bite before or after a Cubs game!
Be the first to ReplySwift & Son's has a lot going for it and we really enjoyed
Swift & Son's has a lot going for it and we really enjoyed our time there! The interior is beautiful and sunny, overlooking Wrigley Field and the associated people-watching. Staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. All of our drinks were incredible. The Smoke on the Water was the favorite at the table, while my Paloma ranks as one of the best I've had!On Saturdays there's even a table-side magician you can request ($) and he's an absolute blast! Danny was so friendly and SO talented. Our minds are still blown by some of his tricks. He amazed a couple tables while we were dining and he had almost the whole restaurant's attention.Unfortunately some of the food fell short of the rest of the 5 star worthy experience. My Fried Oyster Benedict was so disappointing. The dish desperately needed salt and the bed of spinach was clearly straight from a frozen bag. It was a so, so watery and flavorless. It was practically inedible until our waitress brought salt and pepper over. However, the rest of the table enjoyed their hash, shrimp po boy and biscuit and gravy (though she said the gravy was TOO salty?) With a special on oysters during Cubs games and the spectacular drinks and ~vibes~, I would absolutely return for cocktails and oysters, but skip an entree.

Would have liked for her to stay true to her words. If you say you are going to do something, then please follow through with your actions.

Oysters are great, any entree is delicious, service A1, cool vibes, good drinks. Anyone giveth less than 5 stars is lying to themselves IMO
Be the first to ReplyIt was my first time trying out this restaurant and I must
It was my first time trying out this restaurant and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my time there. The host was pleasant and didn't make me feel unwelcome, which unfortunately happens at some Chicago restaurants in popular areas. The waitstaff was courteous, professional yet personable as they explained the menu options in great detail. The cocktails were tasty but they also offer standard drinks that weren't listed on the menu if you don't see anything that you like. The food was really good. You can tell they take time to prepare everything properly. In short, this location got five stars from me. I enjoyed the food and drinks, the atmosphere was impressive and the people working there welcomed you with a smile! I'll definitely will be back!
