Great food and service
We were greeted by a cheerful hostess who led us to a great table. Drinks were served quickly. Since it was our first time there, Clayton our waiter gave us great advice in terms of adjusting our appetizers and mains, and even suggested items based on our preferences. We have very attentive service throughout our meal, and we didn;t feel rushed. Having said that, when we were ready to leave, we had a quick bill process to get us out and on our way to a West End show. I was celebrating my 60th birthday, and I couldn't have asked for a better meal.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Staff Attitude/ Poor Food
Heard some good reports about this Indian restaurant but unfortunately it fell down badly , the staff greeting at the front was great but from there on it went down hill , our server Irina was the most surly and unhelpful person and could not wait to serve us and get us out of the restaurant as soon as possible no advise on the food . I choose the lamb which was exceptional dry and tough , I did mention this to the manager at the time he said he would mention it to the chef. It was not cheap and if I had not been rushed so much I would have removed the 12.5% service charge from the bill. There are much better Indian restaurants in the area where they make you feel welcome.
Be the first to ReplyVibrant fresh food in a stylish and relaxed restaurant.
Really good fresh food and a bit different too. We had the mixed plate of the day which had a kebab, chicken curry, potato dish, lentil daal, rice and yoghurt (all for 1!) We also had a selection of street foods that were tasty, interesting and different. Finally when we paid they had noted it was a birthday so brought a desert out for the birthday boy - it was delicious. Would highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyAppaulling - Dont bother
I rarely write that a restaurant is appaulling, as I like to factor in circumstances which may mean the experience was a one off, but I have to tell you that this place, despite being over priced, which I can forgive, has the worst team of staff I have ever come across, and it is evident this poor culture comes from the top down, because the manager / owner / who ever he was that is in charge, is incredibly arrogant and should not be put customer facing. Had a valentines booking, arrived early and were told to return later, so we returned 10 minutes later and upon arrival, before even being shown to our table we were being told very loud and firm that we have to leave within 2 hours (pretty standard) and how the table must be cleared (obviously looking to turn tables fast), do we understand etc etc, a bit like marching orders and we still have one foot in the doorway at this point... ignored that and continued anyway... Shown to our seats in an empty restaurant (we were first in - so imagine being barked at that you have to hurry up and theres not even any other diners in yet) and asked to be moved to a more private spot, as we were being sat literally in the middle of where all the waiters seem to congregate, in the walkway. This seemed to be really hard for the girl to get her head around, and although we moved it was like a massive issue. In an empty restaurant. None-the-less, the issues came with the food. The dont seem to have a concept for allergies here. We werent allowed the tasting menu unless we were both buying, and if we were then we had to share the mains etc, so it made no logical sense to do that. We were told there was a vegetarian tasting menu but we werent given the menu, just expected to remember what is substituted for what. So we went for the A'la carte. The potatoes were a mix of ok and blackened through, in my opinnion they were half rotten from the look of them. We were told by the waiter they had been put on coals with seabass on top (vegetarians and allergy sufferers beware this is not disclosed info), so I ignored it. Chicken came, it was like slicing into an apple. I dont think breast should feel that way to cut when tender. Seemed pink inside. Told the waiter I'd just leave it on the side because again I was told 'it is supposed to be that way'. The final straw was the third dish, the lamb chops were bleeding in the middle. At this point I deduced that the chef is rushing and trying to turn tables quickly. Not a problem if he could just make sure it isnt bleeding, I'll have it. Waiter takes it away... Owner / manager / head honcho returns with the dish in hand, having poked it around says its fine and trys to put it on the table. I had to pick it up, squeeze it and make it bleed. He still began arguing about it saying it isnt blood, its well done, and it is spices. Anyway, takes it away, and marches back, with the dish still in hand ready to put back on the table, behind the chef! At this point it seems theres some kind of intimdation going on, or someone is trying to force feed us food we arent happy with. The chef confirms that the chops are cooked medium rare! So everyone is a liar clearly who says what they need to say. Big man with the chops just wanted to force them down our throat otherwise he would have taken them away by now, so I got my date, stood up and walked out. We went round the corner to fat punditt. Ordered some chops, they were a bit pink for my liking, called the waiter and the owner was stood there and said no worries at all, if you dont like it pink let us cook them a bit more for your liking. We at the chops. Note to tamrind kitchen, that is how you serve a customer. You lost out on a £1-200 spend, because you wanted to force feed your guests and tried 3 times. I could have ignored how over priced they were if the service was worth it. So many good indian restaurants in london, with tasty food, and absolutely lovely staff, this is definitely NOT one of them.

Exceptional food, great service and an amazing experience. The Raj Kachori is delicious though every single thing we tried was brilliant. Highly recommend…
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced place for underwhelming food
Busy cramped interior, had to squeeze pass a chair to get into our table.Noise levels unbearable with table of 10 next to us. First thing was told that table for two hours- such a warm welcome. Small places overpriced- prawn was ok, the Pav bhaji was 4 tiny as square of bread for £10-Absolutely ridiculous! Then there was was the soft shell crabs for £12 which was a few mouthfuls. Mains ever we ordered- 6 prawns for the goan prawn dish, tasteless lamb shank with slitter of meat which was ligaments and poor quality meat, and chicken again 8 small pieces atleast this was the best dish of the night. Again all in very similar sauces- some sweater than other. Cream sauce for lamb shank- in what was called a robust sauce -what absolute nonsense for Asian food. Order of roti that never turned up. Instead another naan. Not only was service slow, was completely overwhelmed and got the orders wrong. Desert was awful- Rasmalah tasted of sheep’s milk and kulfi was tasteless. Lychee breeze tasted of fake raspberry. Wine over proves with mark up of 4.5X retail price. Expensive for small portions and mediocre dishes with terrible ambience, cramped dining. So many better planes in london for Indian food- Dishoom would have beat this place hands down any day!
Be the first to ReplyBest Indian restaurant in the uk
Tamarind kitchen is undoubtedly the best Indian restaurant in the Uk . We don’t miss Indian food thanks to tamarind kitchen . Vippin looks after the guests like family.the lamb chops are better than in India. 🤩
Be the first to ReplyExcellent indian food from a small menu
We chose the Tamarind Kitchen spontaneously on a Friday night. It was quite full and we didn't have a reservation. We were asked to wait for 10-15 minutes , we asked if we could get a drink in the meantime. We ordered from a smallish but well chosen menu of cocktails and while waiting for the drinks to arrive they got a table cleared for us. Our drinks magically arrived at out table. We were a party of three and ordered some starters to share. Soon after we had finished them (very tasty Mumbai street food and excellent portabello mushroom slices) our mains arrived. And the quality we had already experienced with our starters continued. After some ice cream dessert we got the bill and left full and happy.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing
It was our first indian food experience and the food was absolutely amazing. The service was great, our waiter explained us the entire menu and made recommendations. I am vegetarian and they have a whole vegetarian menu which is really great. Next time we are in London we will for sure come back. Full recommendation for this restaurant! Make sure you try the seabass.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food & ambiance
We have been here many times in the last 5 years and it’s one of our London favorites among so many good Indian restaurants! Good location in the Soho area. Great food, consistent dishes & very good service. For years we were clients of the other Tamarind in Mayfair but when they were closed for remodeling we started coming here - and now Tamarind Kitchen is out favorite. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, amazing service!
We visited for a business dinner and were so impressed with our experience! Yolanda was our server and she was extremely personable, fun, and attentive. Her descriptive and honest recommendations allowed us to try the most delicious things on the menu and we all left feeling full and happy! What a wonderful & yummy place!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Indian food in the heart of Soho
Amazing food! Ambiance is really nice as well as the staff. Highlights were the Raj Kachori and the seabass (!!), but also the butter chicken was totally worth it. Will probably be more often in London for business in the coming years, so it’s good to have discovered such a great place to rely on.

Great food and service, all for a good price. The food is authentic and the setting is also very beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Indian Food Ever!!
This is one great place to eat indeed!! The seemingly small but large two level restaurant in a bustling area of the city produces the best Indian food I ever had!! I am Vegan and I chose creamy spinach, brown rice, red Dahl and a gluten free billowy naan. Please do yourself a favor and dine here during your stay or anytime. You will not regret! The waiters and waitress are super accommodating and congenial See the photo attached and you will dummies the authentic nature of this establishment in her smile.
Be the first to ReplyOver priced, small portions, lack of service
Pleasant place with a relaxed atmosphere. Food, as most have commented, is over priced for what you get. 3 pieces of chicken for a portion of Chicken Tikka! The Chicken Rezela sauce was extremely watery, without any hint of a taste of almond. More like a chicken soup! Plenty of staff but almost impossible to get a waiters attention… beware, service charge included in bill total. Ours was £25, staff deserved a fiver at best.
Be the first to ReplyGood food spoilt by high prices and poor ambiance.
The four of us had lunch at this restaurant on a Saturday only to find we were the only diners. We feel a busy restaurant, especially on a Saturday to be good sign and so we were very surprised to be the only diners there. On the plus side we found the food to be ok and the service good, though rather soulless which may have been down to boredom. On the downside the menu is quite limiting and we found the prices to be on the expensive side for what we had, even for London. We felt that the restaurant may be aiming for a fine dining status in which case they have a little way to go. I doubt we would return and I doubt we would recommend to friends.
Be the first to ReplyA great find
I am choosy about Indian restaurants in Europe and although London has some great semi authentic places I tend to avoid overpriced michelin star places with strange and weird menus. I therefore went to Tamarind K having once been taken to Tamarind in Mayfair with some trepidation . Tamarind kitchen is fantastic . Try the medley of vegetarian starters , the delhi butter chicken and the Calcutta lamb . A superb wine list compliments as does a very attentive service , Hands down a winner.
Be the first to ReplySimply wonderful
This was simply one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever eaten in. We had the tasting menu which was superb, so tasty, well presented and great value for money. Lovely cocktails too. We’ll certainly come back again soon. Great friendly waiting staff too, especially our waitress who was from Chisinău
Be the first to ReplyPricey but very good food
I’d have given the restaurant 5 stars except our arrival was a bit chaotic and we were left waiting. The toilets are very sparse - only one for the gents is pretty poor - there was already a queue at the gents at 5.45pm!!
Otherwise the food was great and the service excellent. We had the pre-theatre meal which was actually pretty good value and delicious and well-cooked.
The evening got quite pricey when adding in the drinks. Bottled lager at £7 and the cheapest wine starting at £40 is too steep nowadays. Lots of other reviewers have said exactly the same.
Anyway, it was a very enjoyable evening meal and I will come again.
Disappointing!
All credit to the wine -thank god IT was good as the food was hugely lacking!
A mediocre mushroom starter- no matter how tasty...you simply cannot charge £12.00 for a single big standard portobello mushroom...its absolutely ridiculous! The rice was similar to something out if a microwave sachet..no cloves no cumin...nothing but bland uneasiness rice...the lamb curry again thoroughly disappointing...no discernable flavours...it seems the highly inflated prices are to justify the huge amount of staff employed...wouldn't mind if the food delivered but it severely underderlivered!! I Indian Zing, Veeraswaamy ..Benares MUCHbetter tasting !
Food just mediocre
Very disappointed. The food just wasn’t up to much and expensive. We are happy to pay if feel it’s worth it but this really wasn’t much better than your standard curry. If I come into Soho I want something modern and vibrant. Staff were perfectly nice. Also two toilets for a massive restaurant so a queue! A disappointing night out and a waste of £180

We introduced my sister and her husband to Tamarind Kitchen last night and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was a little nervous about how my sister would enjoy it as she is vegetarian, but she was blown away by the first dish that she tasted, the papdi chaat that was not only so flavoursome, but the different textures also added to the experience of a great dish.
The chilli fry lobster is delicious and the chargrilled mixed platter was also a joy to eat.
Having given up alcohol for Lent I tried some of the non-alcoholic cocktails and the Khus Cooler was my favourite as it is very refreshing.
Well done everyone at TK as you made our night very special.
Fabulous evening for our group of 26
Great food great service lovely ambience - thank you very much to the team at Tamarind kitchen for your hospitality and warmth .Every one ( and we had a discerning group of professionals) had a great time loved the food and service.
Definitely coming back !
Best ever dining experience⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sublimely delicious food. Great Indian traditional dishes served with stunning presentation. Very well worth visit. Manager Mr Vipin Magoon and staff were extremely courtious and helpful in suggestions and knowledgable.
Be the first to ReplySome good some not so good
It was raining the night we visited so we arrived with wet coats an umbrella. No cloakroom or anywhere to hang a coat so I sat with my wet jacket on the back of my chair, not very comfortable.
We had an early table 5pm so it was quiet. The tables are close together if it had been busy this may be a problem. We thought we had been lucky to get a table a little away from the others until we realised we had been sat in front of the wine cupboard and every time someone ordered red wine we got disturbed. It was a little too warm inside for us but some people might like that.
We had gone for the tasting menu which we were looking forward to and at £45pp looked good value. Unfortunately we hadn’t realised that this wouldn’t be available because it was Valentine’s night. It had been replaced by a very similar tasting menu that was now priced at £75pp.
Cheapest wine on the list over £40 the bottle of Sauvignon blanc we would have liked was £65 so we didn’t bother and just had a glass of wine each.
The food however was very good. We really liked the starters. The main was buttered chicken also delicious as was the house dhal
It came with a good rice and some lovely flatbreads and also some rosters new potatoes which we found unnecessary.
The desert was a chocolate mouse shaped into a heart to share, neither of us liked this very much and would have preferred Kulfi.
I’m sure if you went anytime that wasn’t valentines you would have a better experience but we left feeling a little jaded.
The food is good but overall the experience wasn’t
