The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel New York Reviews from The Last Year
I can't say enough good things about this hotel! The old
I can't say enough good things about this hotel! The old new york vibes, architecture, jazz, food, cocktails. Everything has an attention to detail and done right. It's probably one of the most beautiful hotels in new york. We had our engagement photoshoot here and the staff was absolutely wonderful and accommodating of us and our photographer. While this place is pricey, you are paying for an amazing well curated ambiance.

The hotel is very old money style and really hits home! The hotel is part of the Park Hyatt group and you can accumulate points. The restaurant on the first floor was really crowded, and it felt like people in suits were coming over to talk about things since breakfast. It was even more crowded at night, and if you happen to stay in a room in the center pick-up spot, it may still be a little noisy at night and easy to rest badly.
Really cool historic hotel in Lower Manhattan.
We were told it was the first building in NYC with an elevator. Checkin was quick and friendly. The room was nice and clean but extremely fragrant. My allergies really got to me at a few points. The fridge is filled with the minibar drinks so you'll need to remove a few to put in your own stuff. The restaurant is actually very good and was extremely busy each night we stayed there. The location is pretty good and was more relaxed than the Times Square one we moved to in the second half of our NYC visit. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the extreme fragrance in the room (it was heavy in the common areas too but I could have lived with that).
Do not trust this hotel with your credit card information.
The beekman scammed me out of $800. They charged me for a hotel I never stayed in, "checked in for me", and when I tried to resolve the issue they put me on hold for hours until I gave up. Beautiful property, terribly managed. Stay at the Bowery hotel instead. Avoid these scammers at all costs.
Come for the jazz, stay for the ambiance and food.
The Beekman is such a classic and quintessential NYC spot for old world architecture and charm. The Bar Room inside allows reservations for Sunday jazz brunch so that's what I did. The service was a little slow honestly but the food was delicious though expensive (but it's like hotel lobby food so to be expected). I ordered a passion fruit Bellini cocktail and then the ancient grain and eggs which was delicious. The jazz band was also great. And bonus: when you're done you can walk up the stairs or take the elevator and get some photos of the beautiful art deco interior.

Our 10-year celebration was shadowed by neglect at The Beekman, where anticipation met disappointment. The saga commenced at check-in, revealing a room devoid of basic toiletries, setting a precedent for the days to follow. Despite explicit requests--confirmed twice--for room cleaning over our 3-night journey, action was taken on only one occasion, leaving us in a perpetual state of discontent. When our room was grudgingly attended to, the service was superficial at best: counters, desks, and nightstands bore the tales of previous encounters, marred with debris and untouched trash. Personal items, including computers and toothbrushes, were recklessly displaced--abandoned on the floor and in the shower, devoid of care. Our plea for shower caps--a simple request--dragged on for an hour, further straining our patience and cramping our evening plans. The absence of fresh towels and unchanged sheets amplified our discomfort, painting a grim picture of neglect. What was to be a joyous celebration of a decade together turned into a narrative of oversight. Offered a mere consolation of 2 bar coupons amidst our voiced concerns at the front desk felt like a dismissive gesture, inadequately addressing the gravity of our compromised stay. Our anniversary, earmarked for joy, was eclipsed by a litany of lapses at The Beekman, deeply engraving our experience with disappointment.
I stayed here for one night and what a dream of a hotel!
I stayed here for one night and what a dream of a hotel! The staff here is beyond amazing and so helpful. The room was spacious and unlike other parts of the city, it was actually quiet and you could get a good night's sleep! The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was the biggest one I've seen in a NYC hotel yet. You have to visit the bar downstairs as the drinks were some of the best I've had. The bartenders really know what they're doing and what steer you in the wrong direction. Cannot wait to stay here again!
My husband and I stayed at the Beekman for 2 nights.
We booked the room because we are both Hyatt loyalty members with elite status and it appeared to be a good offer on American Express Fine Hotel Collections, a king bed deluxe (which per hotel website was a 320 square foot room) with a possible upgrade if available. We were very disappointed with our room. The room we received was much smaller than the room we booked....in rough measurements I would say less than 300 square feet and was probably a king bed standard based on website description and pictures. The room did have a king sized bed but 2 people cannot walk around this room without bumping into each other. I called the front desk to say that we did not get the accommodation that we booked but they gave us some double talk and said there was nothing that they could do. The only features of the room which were nice was a comfortable bed with nice linens and a good sized shower. If you decide to stay at the Beekman please note that the bar is very attractive and popular. We tried to go there with family in the area (a party of 4) the first night of our stay for a drink before dinner and were told the bar was full until 9:45pm. We were told by the host if we want to get breakfast in the morning we need to book the night before. I wish the hotel check in person would have provided some of this information. Instead he told us that Le Gratin would accept our American Express credit which it did not. In fact when we went down for breakfast there were disappointed hotel guests who were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait for a table if you did not have a reservation and they should have been told to book breakfast by the front desk personnel upon check-in. The morning breakfast manager was friendly, efficient and helpful. The breakfast was good quality and there is complimentary coffee in the lobby if you are an early riser...since the room does not have a coffee or tea pot. The hotel has the look and style of an old time hotel with furnishings in the room being a "collection" as they called it with scuffed wood, etc. but the room was otherwise nicely maintained. Having stayed at a number of hotels all over the city during my many trips to New York, the Beekman is not one I would return to.

Bar room at the beekman did not disappoint! Stopped in for a pre dinner drink for my friends birthday. Staff went above and beyond. So accommodating and friendly. Atmosphere is very cozy, especially during holidays. Will be back!
First, let me say the building and features are stunning.
We had brunch in the Temple room which was beautifully moody. Perfect for the rainy day. And the food was impeccable! I had the French toast, others had the White Fish Benedict and the Grains and Vegetables with a sunny side up egg. Everything was excellent. Sadly, that's where the niceness ended. The service was non existent. We had a server take our drink order and that's the last was saw of her. That's the last we saw anyone. Took 30 minutes to get our drinks and that's after asking someone about them. Then we sat and waited another 40 minutes to order. Some random guy took our order...not introducing himself. We're like who are you?! Meal came out quickly tho. Then waited more for anyone to ask how everything was, do we need refills, dessert maybe? No one did. Has to ask for check and server showed up 2 minutes later to cash us out. Maybe it was an off day. And the manager did comp our drinks. But we expected so much more from this establishment. Like I said, food and ambiance were perfection. Service , they really didn't care we were there.
