If you are reading this, congrats! This is the only review you will need to read if you are thinking about coming here. I will include the common Q&A based on my experience. 1. How much does it REALLY cost? A:You need to purchase a ticket online ahead of time. They have 2 different types of dinner ( The early seating and the late seating, we will talk about the differences down below). The early seating menu (less courses) cost us $486 for 2 people after taxes and fees and mandatory 20% tip. Wine pairing for 2 was $316 for 2 people after taxes and fees with mandatory 20% tip (you will pay for wine paring with card or cash once you arrive at the venue). So in total for 2 you are looking at $800 for the basic tasting menu (early seating) with wine pairing. Plan to pay more if you choose the longer late seating 2. What is the difference between the early and late seating? A: To us, we are glad we did not do the late seating, since the website only stated that you will get 3-5 more courses than the early seating for like a lot more money. One of the chefs told us that out of the 3-5 more courses for the late seating, most of them are extra desserts (their dessert was a major letdown, think Costco quality candies), so to us it is not worth the money for more desert courses. 3. Is it worth it? A: IT DEPENDS. The Catbird Seat was once praised by Anthony Bourdain on his "Parts unknown" Nashville episode show, however that chef is no longer working there. In fact, if you didn't know, the Catbird seat rotates their chef every 5-6 years, so you would get completely different experiences and tastes every 5-6 years. Our chef as of Jan 2023 was from Florida and he was very big on seafood, so a lot of our dishes were seafood, which I loved. So if you are not a big seafood (think raw seafood/ sushi/ fresh fish eggs being shipped overnight from Tokyo) fan, then you would be disappointed. This will change for the next chef, so make sure you check their menu prior to purchasing your ticket to make sure the food being offered is something you are interested in eating. I think for $800 for 2 people (including wine pairing), it is worth the experience if you have never experienced tasting menu at a fancy restaurant. Maybe for special occasions, it is worth the splurge if you like their seasonal items being offered, however, be sure to come not super hungry because their portion size was small, you will leave hungry. Remember, it is called "tasting" for a reason, you are not meant to be full. I mean, there was one piece of 18 oz steak that the chef cooked and was shared between maybe 18-20 people, so each person got a small thin half of a bite each. 4. How is their wine pairing? A: They were good, but they were all wines that the wine girl told me that you could buy them from whole foods, or local stores. So nothing exclusive. However, you get about 6 half glasses for the entire experience, so they would tell me that this wine is for the next 3 courses, etc. Which I found odd, since I have been to other tasting experiences that would pair each wine to each course. So for 6 small pour of different wine for $158, I do not think it was a good deal... My advice is to skip the pairing- you are not really missing out much on the wine here. 5. How is the dessert? A: 0 star! Tragic! Sad! Pathetic! A lot of the desserts were like different pieces of candy served on a fancy plate, but they tasted like they were bought from Costco. Their supposedly "Star" dessert item was this fried dough filled with foie gras, however only a tiny drop or 2 foie gras were injected by the chef in front of us and I tried so hard but never tasted any of it. It honestly tasted like the mini donuts from Dunkin. 6. How is the ambiance? The Catbird Seat was located in a unique location, it is located on the 2nd floor of this speakeasy bar, the Patterson house. You will take an elevator up and it is an intimate square table with the chefs cooking in the middle- you get to see their actions from the beginning to the end. It only seats about 20 people or less each dinner so that made you feel exclusive. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bathroom was a treat- Japanese automatic bidet toilet, with real warm hand towels- lots of real candles too- so make sure you experienced it also! LOL. 7. My Final Advice: Check the menu to make sure the seasonal food item is something you are interested in, skip the late seating which cost a lot more (they will just give you more underwhelming dessert items), make early seating reservation (less course but still amazing) ahead of time. Skip the wine paring, eat something ahead of time so you are not super hungry when you arrive, and have an open mind prior to coming and you will be treated with a wonderful experience!
